Recovery Lock-Up Satellite A75-S231

i am trying to restore my Toshiba Satellite A75-S231 to factory settings using the Recovery Applications & Drivers DVD which came with my computer.
Booting the machine with the recovery DVD
about 3-8% into the recovery, the system shuts down completely.
Booting without DVD i keep getting this error message
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet COntroller v2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
i did reset the BIOS to default settings and that did not prove useful
Toshiba 1-800 tech support is completely useless.
thanks in advance for your help.
mike

Your computer is trying to find a bootable device and the network adapter is what it finds thus telling you that it cannot boot to it because there is no network cable plugged in. I say it is a hard drive failure.

  • Trying to run the recovery disk on my Satellite A75

When trying to run the recovery disk on my A75 I get a message that it will not run on a non Toshiba machine. It looks like I'm missing some system files.

    Hi
Do you use the Recovery disk delivered together with this notebook?
Are you sure youve got the right disk?
The other reasons could be a faulty or missing information in the DMI.
The DMI contains details about the notebook model, series number and other necessary details.
If such information is not correct then the notebook cannot be recognized as a Toshiba unit and therefore the Toshiba recovery procedure would be not possible.
    Check this US page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=DMI+A75\
There you can find info regarding the DMI and Sat A75

  • Need SM Bus Controller Driver for A75-S231

Unfortunately I am without my system and backup disks and I am in desperate need of a driver for the SM Bus Controller. Problem surfaced after re-install of XP Home.
I called Toshiba tech support to identify the motherboard chipset shipped with my unit (specs listed at end of post) so as to locate and download the driver. Unbelievably, Tech is not equipped to identify the make or model of my motherboard or identify the chipset. Third Party software tells me I have a Toshiba EDW10 Motherboard and tech searched the internet and told me I have some VIA motherboard and good luck finding your driver.
Please help, I didnt think that Toshiba of all people would be unable to identify their own systems but here I am 4 hours later bothering you good people and still hunting. Does anyone have the SM Bus controller driver for the A75-S231 or tell me what chipset was shipped with my unknown motherboard?

    Thanks fo your help.

    Hi
As far as I know your unit must be an US notebook model and please try to check Toshiba US download page under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please dont be mad on tech support but I dont see any reason why they should know every technical detail of your notebook. Toshiba has designed drivers for every hardware component that you can have anytime you want and install it 1000 times if you want. Toshiba guarantee that it will work properly and I dont see any problem there.
Technical details you can get from Authorized service partners in your country.
    Good luck!

  • Can not create recovery discs on satellite C875D-S7330

Can not create recovery discs on satellite C875D-S7330. Drive runs and appears to be doing it thing, then aborts saying it has error to check disc for scratch or dust on media. Error code: OEO1B5-26-2AO3OC 00 . Tried 3 new discs all same results. Tried a 4th disc trying to continue on with disc 2 of recovery discs, got another error on this one. Error code: 020150-20-00000000.
Anyone have a fix for this? Had this machine less than 24hrs.
    Thanks
    Don B.

Personally, I would get a 16gig USB thumb drive and put your recovery on it.  It eliminates having to swap disks during recovery and it's easy to store.  I've used mine several times and it's worked perfectly every time.

My A75 s231 can't charge battery and run laotop at the same time.  It charges battery ok when turned off and the battery will run the machine ok for a couple of hours but battery runs down while machine is on and plugged into power pack.  The right charge light will come on as soon as the unit is turned off and charging resumes. If you pull battery unit will not power on with ac power. I replaced the power jack, the battery and power pack, all are new (no change)  When on AC power system monitor shows that it is on battery power and that the battery has 0% charge.  The system is XP Pro spk2 not OEM???  Any ideas any one?

  • Satellite A75-S229 often turns off without any reason

Satellite A75-S229 often turns off without any reason, everything ok with the AC power, the battery is allways remaining 100%. What's wrong? maybe the battery is too old (about 2 years) and need to be changed?
    THANX!

    Hi
Was the AC adaptor connected to the notebook during the automatically shut downs?
If yes then I dont think the old battery is a reason for the shut downs.
I presume this is a simply overheating issue. Did you ever clean the cooling modules in this notebook?
The notebook is about two years old and maybe a dust and debris inside the notebook could have a bad influence on the air circulation.
I think the professional fan cleaning will help to avoid the random automatically shut downs.

  • Satellite A75-S206

Is there any way to boot to an external hard drive connected to a USB port on a Satellite A75-S206? I would really like to be able to do this. Thank you very much in advance for all your help!
    Windows XP Sp3
    Fat 32
    Bios version 1.6

OK, maybe I should be more specific. What I have done is installed WinXP Pro SP3 onto my laptop as the only operating system on a single partition drive, FAT32 as the file system. I then removed the hard drive and placed it into a 2.5 HD enclosure that plugs in via USB. I would like to be able to boot to this drive, connected via the enclosure to USB. I know that when I press F12 during boot I get a boot device selection menu that includes "removable devices" as an option, which indicates to me that I should be able to boot to the USB drive like I want to, only when I try I get a blinking cursor and no other activity. I do not want a drive installed internally, I want my primary boot drive to be via the USB connection to the enclosure, with no other drive installed on the laptop. Is this possible? I read through part of the how-to link posted as a reply previously, but that seemed mainly to focus on installing Windows directly to a removable device from the installation CD. The drive I am dealing with already has a bootable version of windows installed on it, I just need to be able to boot to it externally as opposed to internally.
If there is any other information I should have included, but left out, please let me know and I will fill in the blanks. Thank you to everyone for your help.

  • Boot Up Problem with a Satellite A75-S226

I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S226, recently purchased
My problem is that whenever the lid to the computer is closed, it will not allow me to re-enter back into the OS. Thus, I have to turn the comptuer off and try to start up again. This is where the problem occurs, when I try to start, the fan will start briefly then shut off, the screen will remain blank and there will be no sound whatsoever, the power and batter lights are on and green and the circle around the power button is blue. I cannot open the CD drive or get any response from keyboard/mouse.
The same happens when i am on battery power. This problem occurs frequently and can occasionally be fixed by constant rebooting, however, at some times it will not work at all.
    Help would be appreciated.

    Hi ,
in my opinion there could be just 2 possible potentials.
At first check what Guiseppe91 said about installed software.
Secondly check if you have additional Hardware connected, like Keyboard, Mouse, any kind of PCMCIA Card or USB Components that didnt Support the Standby / Hibernation Mode.
Ii this points doesnt fit, I would save the personal Data and Recover the System with the delivered CD Rom ( or DVD ).
    bye

    THANKS

    Hello Host
Can you please tell us what problem you have with your notebook?
I dont know what you want to do but if you dont have experience with notebook disassembling procedure it will be better leave it. Small mistake can damage the hardware and in this case you can have big problem. The construction is much sensible as on desktops.

  • After Recovery with CD Satellite C660-1FE keyboard does NOT work

    Hello,
A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).
Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.
The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.
    I have:
tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.
The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.
Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):
+The digital signature for the drivers for this device is required, can not be verified. Possible after a recent hardware or software change a file that is installed incorrectly signed or damaged, or is malicious software installed from an unknown source. (Code 52)+
+You need to restart the computer to this device changes to take effect.+ (obviously I tried that too)
Can someone please give me some help? I am at the end of my wits.
    Sincerely,
    Daniel

    Hi MisterX,
thank you for your response. I have tried these things and there is no such thing as PS2/keyboard in device manager. It's as if the Hardware is not even recognizable in windows. I am starting to doubt whether I got the right Backup CD.
I wrote the following e-mail to [email protected]:
    +Dear Toshiba,+
+after receiving the recovery CD's for my toshiba c660-1FE, it turns out that the drivers for the keyboard and touchpad are not installed. I have tried many things to get around this but it seems to me that I have received the wrong product recovery CD's. The chipset drivers are not the right ones, the overall layout of this version of windows 7 is different from before and when looking for answers in the toshiba forum I have concluded that the recovery CD's could be the wrong ones.+
    +My laptop: Satellite C660-1FE+
    +serial: 5B378048K+
    +Part-nr: PSC0LE 02M0TU26DU+
    +Recovery CD's I received are CD's 1-3 with serial R14254DU+
+Would you be so kind to check whether these CD's should be 100% compatible with my laptop?+
    +This would be greatly appreciated,+
    +Daniel+
MisterX, do you know any other emails I can forward this too? Or anyone who could perhaps tell me if I got the right CD's? They are taking their time to respong to this...
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

  • How to get a Recovery media for Satellite L305D S5900

I am a Ghanaian who bought a Toshiba laptop about seven months ago. The model is Satellite L305D S5900. I am also in Ghana. I found out from the documents that came with the laptop and your forum that I can order for Recovery media for it with no charge on the software itself.
How do I get this Recovery media for my machine as I am in a different country? What are the things involved?
    Thank You.

Your T500 can burn CD's at the least and if you can access Windows, you should be able to burn a set of recovery discs.
Other than that, I suggest calling support to see what they can do to help. The number in the U.S. is 1-800-426-7378.

  • Recovery on a Satellite A100 (PSAA9) - Deleted partitions and XP Home not Pro

We recently had trouble with our laptop and decided to restore it back to manufacturer settings with the recovery Media CD. My son decided to do it and when he booted up the program he chose the Delete partitions option instead of overwrite.
Now it has completely formatted the HD removing the OS (Windows XP Pro).
When I bought the laptop it came with WXP Pro already installed and just has the Certification Sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
Is there anyway that I can receive a Windows XP Pro installation CD?

Generally all Satellite notebook models are delivered with WXP Home or Media Center Edition operating system. Toshiba has Satellite Pro series and under this name you can get WXP Pro operating system.
Can you tell us which model you have exactly A100-xxx?
If your notebook was in showroom by the dealer it is possible they have used own OS installation instead of delivered recovery media.

  • What does the recovery CD contain - Satellite A100-847

    Hello guys
I had a few questions about the recovery CD:
1- What does the recovery CD contain? and the other CD which is called Media something?
2- Does it have Windows in it? So I can format my PC using it? And from where can i find the product key (windows key)
3- What if i wanted to use the CD without formatting? etc. installing the softwares?
Sorry for asking too much but my laptop started disturbing me. Just for knowledge my Laptop is satellite A100-847

    Hello
I will try to answer your question.
1 Recovery media contains recovery image. Recovery image is a kind of package that contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities and some additional software like WinDVD or Norton antivir application. Media something is not known to me. Maybe exact description can help.
2 Yes it has Windows OS. Yes you can format your notebook using it. You do not need product key. Just install it.
3 I do not know what you mean. The fact is that HDD will be formatted before you start recovery installation. Be sure all your important data are saved on some external device.
    Bye
