Recovery Manager Failure: Failed to create EFI partition

Envy 15-1055SE
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
The original HD failed (500GB) and it was replaced it with a working unit of the same size (500GB). Since the hard drive was completely dead and I no longer had access to the recovery partition we installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on the new hard drive, assuming we could use my Windows Key and then just download all the applicable drivers from the HP site. Windows did install and was running, but since my key was not compatible and trying to get all the correct drivers for my specific notebook was essentially impossible I rush ordered the recovery discs form HP. Once received, we then attempted to restore the system using recovery media supplied by HP (590684-003 , WINDOWS 7 PREMIUM 64B + SUPP 2 RECOVERY).
Multiple attempts were made with the replacement HD raw, formatted or untouched from the last failure. I have also downloaded and used the Cyberlink Recover Discs Utility from the HP site that supposed to resolve Recovery Discs issues, but all attempts ended exactly the same way.  After using and ejecting all three recovery discs Recovery Manager terminated with the same error:
Recovery Manager
The Recovery Attempt has Failed.
Select one of the following buttons
[Savelog]   [Details]   [Retry]
Pressing [Details] results in this message:
CTO ERRORFLG
Fail to Create EFI Partition...
Diskpart return error level [-2147024809]...
Retrying ultimately loops to the same error.
So, what now???

So I took your advice and called HP support. As you stated, they recommended new recovery discs, which they sent me and I recieved today. So I went through the whole process again and got the same error.
When I was on the phone with support they mentioned that I could have purchased a replacement drive from them for 2.5 times the price i paid for mine. And they didn't confirm if that would fix my problem or come with everything already installed.
At this point I'm at a loss, I don't have the money to pay that much for a "possible" solution, when I have a perfectly fine working new hard drive already.
There has to be a solution out there, as everyone I talked doesn't understand why the recovery disc/process isn't working. Can someone please provide some useful advise/suggestions?

    ORA-28000: the account is locked
Cause: The user has entered wrong password consequently for maximum number of times specified by the user"s profile parameter FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS, or the DBA has locked the account
Action: Wait for PASSWORD_LOCK_TIME or contact DBA
I think you have specified a profile to the user for recovery manager where failed_login_attempts was set. Because of wrong password attempts the account got locked.
Unlocking of account should work.. Check whether you can login to sql*plus ?
Change the profile's FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS value and try once again.

  • 0xc000025 - Trying Recovery System via Recovery Manager: Windows failed to start.

    Name: Pavilion dv4-2161nr
    Prod. Number: WA691UA#ABA
    Windows 7  64-bit
I splitted original Hard Disk Partition in three partitions.  I formatted those two not containing O.S.  Now I want to format the partition containing the O.S.
      1)  If I choose "Recovery System", will it format all three partitions?  Or will it format the partition I choose to?
      2)  I tryed "Recovery System", but it failed.  What can I do?
2.1)  I made Recovery DVDs when first used the PC.  It loads but it never runs.  It's like theres no AutoRun, and there's no ".exe" to execute when I open the first DVD Recovery via Windows Explorer.  What am I missing?
2.2)  I tryed Recovery System via Recovery Manager.  System shuts down and starts reiniciating but it gives the following message "Windows Boot Manger: Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware of software change might be the problem.  Status: 0xc000025.  The boot selection failed because a required device is inacessible".  What can I do?
         Regards,
         Rafael.

I tested the Hard Drive and it passed 100% ok.
I tested the Memory and it passed 100% ok.
My PC runs a Win 7 Home Premium.
I've just run a Win 7 Ultimate CD Installation.  It formatted the System Partition, but I couldn't get Win 7 installed because when I filled in my Product Key it said the Product Key wasn't right.  Is it because Product Key for Win 7 Home Premium wouldn't work on a Win 7 Ultimate installation?
I hoped the Hard Drive would be ok after it had been formatted while I tryed Win 7 Ultimate installation.  So I tryed once again to boot with HP Recovery Disc.  It stopped at 23% once again.  Until 23% there are all noises that get me thinking PC is running ok.  When it get up to 23% all noises just stop.
    Any ideias?
    And thanks once again.
    Rafael.

  • Recovery Manager is failing to read backup files from disc

    Product Name:
    HP G56-129WM
    Operating System:
    Windows 7
I used the HP Recovery Manager (F11) to backup my files instead of using the Windows backup. The HP Recovery Manager back uped my files on 2 dvd discs. I then restored my laptop to factory settings. When I go to restore my files, it will only go to 40% and then ask me to insert backup DISC 2. When I insert the disc, it fails to read it. The disc pops out and I keep getting a request to insert DISC 2. What is going on?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I have a related but different issue with file back-up using HP recovery manager.
I have a Pavilion g7-1070us laptop that failed to start and simply displays a blue-screen with a blinking cursor (no error message). I could NOT get into safe-mode by hitting F8, but was able to activate the “HP recovery manager” by hitting F11. I was trying to back-up my files before triggering the system restore. It asked me what types of files to back-up, then scanned the computer for these files and was finalizing the files for back-up; then suddenly an error message showed up saying something like "No storage device detected. Make sure the removable disc drive is connected to computer". But I have both a DVD sitting in the optical drive and a USB drive attached!!!!!! Apparently the recovery manager doesn’t see them?
Can someone throw me a life-saver here? If I cannot recover my files, I cannot proceed with the system restore and I am forever stuck here!!!!!!
    Please help!!!! Much appreciated!!

  • Bootcamp Cannot create a partition

As a newbie to mac, i thought it would be pretty easy to use the assistant to install W7.
Following the bootcamp procedure, Bootcamp assistant fails to create a partition.
"Your disk could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning disk." No other information leads me to understand the problem
So i tried to verify disk problems and repair but no luck.
I looked online and some suggestions include restarting the computer in single mode and running /sbin/fsck -fy but despite that same problem.
So i thought i would try to just create a normal partition using disk utility (nothing to do with windows 7 etc). The error is as follows:
"This core storage operation is not allowed on a sparse logical volume"
    Can anyone help?

  • Hp recovery manager pro x2 612 tablet

i need download hp recovery manager for hp pro x2 612 tablet

    Hi
You cannot download Recovery manager stand alone, it is a partition and if you have wiped it or removed it or deleated it. You can call HP & Order Recovery Disks from HP which has the OS and factory shipped software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hp recovery manager pavilion dv7 windows 7 64bit not installed correctly

I'm trying to reinstall Recovery Manager after a hard disk replacement. I have a HP Pavilion dv7 4060si running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I've downloaded sp45602 and installed it. It did not install properly. When I went to the SwSetup/sp45602 folder and clicked RecoveryMgr.exe I got a message that a DZIP32.dll file was missing. I downloaded it and dragged it into the SwSetup/sp45602 folder. Then I got a message that HardDisk.dll was missing. I downloaded it and dragged it into the SwSetup/sp45602 folder. Then I got a message that PRRC.dll was missing. I downloaded it and dragged it into the SwSetup/sp45602 folder. Now I get a message in Turkish that translated by Google reads: Recovery Manager driver failed to start. To apply you will need to reinstall.
I've deleted the SwSetup/sp45602 folder, downloaded the sp45602.exe again and gone through the same process to get the same result. What is missing from my software?

    Did you resolve this?
    I'm getting the same issues!

  • I wanted to create two partitions on my iMac w/ Lion using a Recovery USB i created using Lion Recovery Disk Assistant but I keep getting Partition failed message saying "couldn't unmount disk"

I have this recently purchased iMac that comes with a Lion but I wanted to have two partitions on the hard disk. I know that the Recovery HD partition is on the same hard disk so I downloaded the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant and created a Recovery disk using a USB. I boot up the system using the USB Recovery disk and run Disk Utility to create 2 Partitions on the hard disk but I get a Failed partition message saying "couldn't unmount disk". What could be the problem here?

Thanks for your continued help Tony. Do you mean normal boot into the regular operating system setting i.e. no keys held down in bootup? I think I have tried this, with the same result.
Yes, that's what I meant.  If that doesn't work, verify that you have a G.U.I.D. partition scheme (you probably do):

    Dear Customer,
Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.
It looks like you are not able to Boot into the Operating System on your Notebook.
We will surely assist you with this.
Originally the Notebook will have the Recovery Partition and that would give you an option to create a set of Recovery Disk. If you have not created those Recovery Disks when the Notebook was in working condition we cannot do that right now
As of now if you need to recover your Notebook with the new Operating System you can check if the Recovery Partition
is in a working condition or not, If yes you can easily recover/restore your Notebook
    If Recovery Partition is corrupted
You need to call HP Technical Support and request for a set of Recovery Disks , So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
    OR
You need call up Microsoft and purchase an Operating System with the License Key, So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
I strongly recommend you to Contact HP Technical Support over the Phone for further assistance without any delay
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • One Key Recovery 8.0 - windows 8.1 - create new partitions

    Dear Members,
Looks like I am again back to the start of the loop regarding the one key recovery after checking with Lenovo customer support. Can you help me on the below. However, I still feel that the well documented procedures for One Key Recovery 8.0 is missing rather than just explaining the navigation. I have z50-70 59436412 laptop with prebuilt windows 8.1
Apart from other (recovery,OEM, others) partitions I have 2 partitions which are C (windows 8.1) 890 GB and D (drivers) 25 GB However I want to create additional partitions (4) to organize my files. Can I directly go to diskmanagement and shrink the C volume to around 300GB and then create more number of partitions from the available space?
Is it mandatory to create a recovery media pendrive with bootable OS? As per Customer support "YOU NEED TO MAKE A RECOVERY MEDIA PENDRIVE WITH BOOTABLE OPERATING SYSTEM AS CHANGING THE NUMBER OF PARTITIONS WILL BREAK THE OKR METHOD AND OKR WILL NOT WORK!!! i.e., I will not be able to reset my laptop to factory settings when I create more partitions.  Can some one confirm this?  Also, if I make a bootable OS, and during restore doesn't it prompt for a key to make the windows OS as genuine??  Can I make a bootable OS on multiple DVDs (as one DVD isn't enough)?  Is the approach same as in the case of making on one DVD?
I haven't took the system backup. I want to make more partitions (shrink C volume and create 5 more partitions for easy maintenance). Will I be able to restore my system back to factory settings (using NOVA key) eventhough there is number of partitions mis-match (initially 2, now around 6 paritions)? I am not worried about my data, as I will have backup of important files into external hard disk which I will restore later using other software
Can I have partition based backup and restore using OKR 8.0?
If I have a system image after creating all the partitions then will I be able to restore using this image without issues?
Say if the harddisk is crashed and I have the backup image on external OS. Can I restore the image back on the new harddisk? Should the number of partitions be same? Also, should the size of each partition also be same?
Suppose I have a partition on harddisk itself to store backup images (img1,2,3,4,5) and when I need to restore to image 3, and after successful restore, I am sure that will loose the image 4 and image 5 on this partition.  Can I be able to restore my system to say image 2 if needed in future when I am running on image 3.  Also, is there any limit on the number of system restore for a specific image?
Awaiting your suggestions.  Sorry, if this is been asked repeatedly by any others.
    Thanks,
    Cheeli.

Disclaimer: I dont use OKR .
Based on the documentation and posts I have read about OKR, it requires your HDD partitions to remain the same size as factory shipped. What the Lenovo customer support center stated to you is correct! ANY change to the C or D partitions sizes will cause OKR to FAIL.  (there are posts stating such failure after changing the partition sizes).
The OKR create recovery media is designed to work with a Pendrive.  It will not work with a DVD.
You could try running Windows backup with the backup being stored on the C drive or on a second HDD/usb,etc.
FYI.  A HDD can only hold 4 regular partitions.  Above 4, you would have to allocate EXTENDED partitions.

  • HP Recovery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF9

    Hello
I used the HP recovery manager to create a backup of my exisiting laptop onto an external hard drive because I selected the 'minimized image recovery option'. The laptop finished and now I am trying to restore the files. But when it gets to 96% is stops and I get:
HP Recovery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF9
I click next and I am back to square one. I have tried many times. I really need these files (~40GB) they were very important to me.
    Please help.

    UPDATE:
    I have resolved this.
After looking on my computer I have noticed that despite the error message popping up at 99%, the files are indeed there in their own folder called "System Recovery Files".
To access the folder I used this video:

  • 15T Recovery Manager FAIL

I am trying to use the HP Recovery Manager to do a Minimal Restore of the drive to purge unwanted trial software.  It is now a full day beginning at 10AM EST until just now, and the utility has failed multiple times (both with and without drive security disabled in the BIOS) with an error stating that I should contact HP Taiwan CTO to resolve the problem.
    REALLY?
These instructions are useless.  The reason they're useless is because the minimal install option is only presented when booting from external (USB) media.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03489643#N789
At this point, the only option presented to me in the recovery manager from the USB media is a full restore requiring a complete drive repartition, a 5-some-odd hour process I performed earlier today thinking that I had selected the 'minimal restore' only to realize that the stated function does not work.
Suffice to say I'm just a tad put off.  Please respond promptly.

I really appreciate your willingness to troubleshoot and try these suggestions. Yes, I know you're working with Windows 8 and the Cyberlink Utility's download page says it is for Windows 7 and earlier versions. Cyberlink has been producing the Recovery partition and media for several years. I was hopeful that the firmware would still be the same since it is such a low-level application. I don't want to lead you on any type of "wild goose chase" or anything, though. I just want to help you get to a working Windows 8 state again, minus the trial/bloatware.
In the interest of saving you time, my next suggestion would be to download and put a clean Windows 8 64-Bit ISO (retail, non-HP-OEM) onto a USB flash drive. That ISO won't include any of the trial/bloatware, that we're trying to avoid. The only drawback is it also won't include any of the HP drivers or software. You'll have to download those from your Driver Page.
If I could get your product number, I'll link you directly to your particular model's driver page. You can find the product number on an HP label on the bottom of the computer.
    Windows 8 64-Bit ISO link
Rufus- Program that makes USB flash drives bootable. It does mention Windows 7 on that site, but the program isn't just for Windows 7. It can be used with any ISO (Linux, Mac OS, all versions of Windows, etc.).
SIDE NOTE: I found this link a few minutes ago in my research, which confirms that it seems to be an issue with the media. He had a refurbished computer, upgraded the hard drive and ran into an issue using the HP Recovery media. The user mentions resolving it by using cloning software to clone the drive and it installed without issue.

  • Fail to Create Product Recovery Media with x301

I purchased an x301 recently with Vista home and fail to create a product recovery disk disk so far.
By going into thinkvantage using "Create Product Recovery Media", shortly I was prompted to indicate a recordable disk drive, which in my case is an external D drive CD burner, then the "little red ball" started to run showing "extracting files please wait"; BUT it won't STOP even after an hour or so and it also did not display any error messages. In fact, the program never went into the next stage prompting me to insert a blank disk. When I tried to stop the program, it sort of hangup and I had to shut down my computer by hard-pressing the turnon button!  After several trial I gave up.
Alternatively, when I doubleclick the Q drive to initiate "create product recovery media", the program indicates that it is not responding.
Strangely, I have managed to perform "Create Recovery Media" successfully under Thinkvantage and burned a CD (note - not the Create Product Recovery Media).
I have even gone the extent to do a Full Factory system restore which verifies that my Q drive is working very well!
So, what could be the problem and I'd really want to create a set of product recovery disks!!
    Cheers.

If you call lenovo up, i think they will send you a set of recovery media for free, given that you can't create it in the first place.

  • HP G62-B50SA Recovery Manager failed and can't restart Windows 7

Yesterday I launched the recovery manager to re-install an out of the box version of Windows 7.
At 1% of the installation I got the following error Error code: 0xe0ef0003
After this error, I could not start Windows anymore BOOTMGR missing
I tried to press escape and then F11, but once again the process failed
I had also created recovery CD's  ( in Total I have 4 ), I try to reinstalled with them by going to F9 and putting the CD to be boot first.
I get the following error "The system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this system with the media".
    What should I do next?
Thanks in advance for your help,

    Hi,
Here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the entire 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn ( Note: You may want to de-select the additional software offerings during the installation of ImgBurn ) to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  The Windows Image source is Digital River.
    Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.
