Recovery Manager provides backup with empty folders

My girlfriend's Compaq Presario was recently infected with some sort of virus which made accessing anything impossible, even in safe mode.  System Restore was also a bust.  Instead of seeking advice from anyone who knew more than me, I decided to perform a recovery with back up.  When prompted to back up the files to a partition, no drives were listed except the DVD drive.  So I plugged in my external and the back up process seemed to work just fine.  I then unplugged it when it was finished and it began to install Windows.  The fresh install worked just fine, so I plugged in my external and began to transfer the backup files. The recovery manager unpacked all the data with no issues save one:  Every folder is empty!  I have a feeling the data is there, since if it were empty folders to begin with, it wouldn't have taken so long to unpack.  I have since attempted to access them using Power ISO with limited success.  Please someone help!

Sorry. I can't help you with that. The set that I have is for my dv7-4180es loaner laptop. Each set is specifically tailored to a particular laptop/mini/elitebook or desktop PC. My set won't work in your notebook.
You will have to use the recovery disk set you created or purchase a set from HP. You can also purchase a set from HP Partners.
Please answer the question from my previous posts.

  • Recovery Manager file backup to HDD

    Suddenly cant log into windows and in safe mode windows explorer closes every time i try to do anything at all... So, I was going to do a recovery. Tried to back up my files in recovery manager but not enough free space. So I connected a clean 1tb external hard drive (file backup is 610gb) recovery manager shows the hard drive in the list of possible alternate backup locations but when highlighted the "Next" button is still greyed out.Can anyone help please?

    Your C drive is too full, file backup needs temporary space on the C drive to store compressed backup files before it copies them to DVD or other storage device.
    You will need to find an alternative method for backing up your files, which is better for you anyway,
    the built in file backup in HP recovery is horrible.

    Hi,
    as for all liveCache issues, I'd have to ask you too to open an OSS message on queue BC-DB-LVC.
    A thing you could try:
    try to read using 'dd' from your devices. If 'dd' can't read from the devspaces, then you've got a misconfiguration somewhere, i.e. an operating system issue and not a liveCache issue. In that case, we (BC-DB-LVC) wouldn't be responsible for the error.
    The 'dd' command could look like:
    dd if=/dev/vx/rdsk/azdevdg/lvlzddisk1 of=<filename> <blocksize>

  • Where are my files from HP Recovery Manager?

    I used the HP Recovery Manager to backup my files before performing a factory reset to correct a BOOTMGR problem.  The program said there were 55MB of files, which seemed right.  I backed them up to a DVD as it instructed me to and it took a few minutes, so it seemed to work correctly.  The factory reset corrected the problem, but now that I am trying to restore my files, the folder Recovery Manager created contains just a few files with seemlingly tiny bits of data associated with programs, not documents, photos, etc.
    I have a Pavilion dm4 running Windows 7 Home Premium.
    HP Tech Support refused to answer my question as my computer is three weeks out of warranty, but they did try to sell me a $300 a year protection plan with some laughable scare tactics about anti-virus software.  Unbelievable.
    How do I restore my files?

    If recovery exe is not present, you can use 7-Zip to unpack the .wim files on the dvd to a folder of choice.

  • How do I remove expand / collapse icon for JTree empty folders

    Hi
    I am using a JTree as a file system browser. I use DefaultMutableTreeNode nodes.
    I have a problem with empty folders.
    Empty folders show the expand / collapse icon, leading the user to believe there are sub-directories. When the user double-clicks the folder, the expand / collapse icon goes away. This is a "haha-gotcha" glitch that I really don't want my users to have to continually deal with.
    So, how might I get my JTree to not show the expand / collapse icon for empty folders?
    Thanks
    Wayne

    Maybe I can use the FileSystemView isTraversable(File f) method in my TreeCellRenderer class to check if anything is in the directory.
    But I still need to know how to disable the expand / collapse icon for such a node.

  • ORACLE8: RECOVERY MANAGER 사용 방법(RMAN)

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 1997-11-17
    Oracle 8 NEW : Recovery manager 란 ?
    ====================================
    - 소개
    Oracle 8 은 새로운 backup와 recovery 방법인 Recovery manager 를 제공한다.
    Recovery manager(이하 RMAN) 는 backup,restore,recover process를 관리하는
    tool 이다. Oracle Enterprise Manager 를 통해 GUI mode 로 가능하고,
    rman 이라는 command line interface 를 함께 제공한다.
    특히, OS device control 기능이 보완 되었기 때문에, 현재 backup catalog 를
    유지하고, 이 정보를 이용해 OS level 에서 file 을 auto-restore 해 주기
    때문에, database recovery 전에 file 을 manual 하게 restore 할 필요가
    없어졌다.
    Incremental backup 을 제공하고, backup 이나 restore 중에 current block
    detection 을 해 주며(v$backup_corruption, v$copy_corruption 또는 alert
    log 에 report), Rman 작업시에 parallelization 을 제공하며, open database
    backup 동안 특별한 redo 를 발생하지 않는다.
    - 구조
    Recovery
    manager in OEM(oracle
              enterprise      ---> Database
              manager) <---     (catalog)
    or RMAN
         /| |
         | |/
    DATABASE     ---> OS
    (target to backup) <--- Device
    - 구성 요소 설명
    1) recovery manager
    Command 를 해석하고, backup, restore, recover 를 실행하기 위해 target
    database 로 command 를 전달한다. recovery catalog 를 update 한다. 실행
    과정을 조정, 모니터링 한다.
    2) Target database
    backup,restore,recovery action 이 수행될 데이타베이스
    3) Recovery Catalog
    Information 저장장소. 즉, target database 의 물리적 스키마, datafile 과
    archivelog 의 backup sets 과 pieces, backup script 등을 포함하고 있음.
    rman 작업시 recovery catalog 정보를 이용한다.
    4) channel
    allocation channel 은 target database 의 backup,restore,recover 에 대한
    server process 초기화를 한다. 즉, 이 channel 은 disk 를 포함 기타 OS
    device 를 지정하게 되며, 이 갯수에 따라 parallelization 의 degree 가 결정
    된다.
    - recovery catalog 를 사용할 것인지를 결정하기
    catalog 없이 RMAN 을 사용할 때의 단점은 recovery catalog 의 overhead 가
    없는 대신, Point-In-Time recovery 를 쉽게 할 수 없다. 또한, control file
    손상시에 recovery 할 수 없고, stored script 를 사용할 수 없다.
    (datafile 이 20개 이상일 경우에는 recovery catalog 사용을 권장한다.)
    - Setup
    가. Recovery catalog 생성
    1. Backup(target) db 외의 별도의 db 생성 (8.0.3 이상)
    2. catalog DB 에 분리된 tablespace 생성
    create tablespace rcvcat datafile '/oracle/rcvcat/rcvcat01.dbf'
    size 20 M;
    3. catalog 의 owner 생성과 권한부여
         create user rman identified by rman
         temporary tablespace temp
         default tablespace rcvcat;
         grant dba,connect,resource,recovery_catalog_owner to rman;
    4. catalog 저장에 필요한 object 생성
         cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
         sqlplus rman/rman
         @catrman
    나. Recovery manager 기동
    1. recovery catalog DB 를 사용하는 경우
    rman target \"system/manager\" rcvcat \"rman/rman@orabeta1\"
    (orabeta1 은 catalog DB 로 접속하는 tnsname 입니다.
    즉, sqlplus rman/rman@orabeta1 하면, catalog db 와 접속되어야 합니다.)
    2. recovery catalog DB 를 사용하지 않는 경우
    rman target system/manager@target nocatalog
    위 경우 모두, target database 를 catalog 에 등록해야 한다.

    release channel dev1;
    };

    Check the TSM logs for errors, the error stack here doesn't show any useful information (only informational messages and an undefined exit code). This is an 8i problem, later releases transfer much better messages from the media management software.

  • Dowload HP Recovery Manager

    I have an HP G72-262NR. I would like to do a complete factory reset, but cannot locate HP Recovery Manager anywhere on my machine.
    I have attempted the press-and-hold F10 and F11, but it only takes me to the Microsoft restore screen. I do not have have restore disks, but my original HP Restore partition is perfect and untouched. I just cannot access it without the HP System Recovery application.
    I did manage to find the application or versions of it on the HP website, but none of them do anything and most do not even install correctly.
    Where can I find the version of HP Recovery Manager that works with my system?

    You need Recovery Media. You can order it from your support page in the list of drivers/software. Scroll down the list to see order option.

  • Please throw me a life-line: Problem with HP Recovery Manager's File backup option

    Product: Pavilion g7-1070us notebook
    Operating system: Window 7 64-bit
    Problematic system: HP Recovery Manager (triggered by hitting F11), made by "Cyberlink"?
    Error message:
    The notebook crashed a few times before but I was able to restart it. Then it completely failed and simply displayed a blue-screen with blinking cursor (no error message). Hitting F8 failed to trigger the safe-mode. So I was forced to get into HP Recovery manager by F11. Before the system restore, I had to backup my personal files through the File backup option.
    After scanning the computer for my slected file-types and finalizing the list of files to be backed up, it showed an error "No device is available for file backup. Make sure your removable disk is connected" while entering the third step ("Where do you want to save the backup").  This happened even though I have both blank DVD in the DVD drive and USB stick in the USB drive. And the size of the file I was trying to back up is way below 1Gb, a fraction of the storage capacity of the DVD.
    I ran the Diagnostic test in BIOS and passed both the "Primary Hard Disk self test" and the Memory test.
    Brief description of the issue:
    I have a Pavilion g7-1070us laptop that failed to start and simply displays a blue-screen with a blinking cursor (no error message). I could NOT get into safe-mode by hitting F8, but was able to activate the “HP recovery manager” by hitting F11.
    I was trying to back-up my files before triggering the system restore/Factory reset. It asked me what types of files to back-up, then scanned the computer for these files and was finalizing the files for back-up.
    These first two steps went smoothly, but at the thrid step whne it asked me "Where do you want to save the backup?",
     suddenly an error message showed up saying e "No device is available for file backup. Make sure your removable disckdrive is connected". But I have both a DVD sitting in the optical drive and a USB drive attached!
    Can someone throw me a life-line here? If I cannot recover my files, I cannot proceed with the system restore and I am forever stuck here!! Thanks a lot!

    You're very welcome.
    If the hard drive and memory passed tests, then it is probably something else, but I can't say for sure.
    If you can read the files using the kaspersky rescue disk then the disk is definitely fine and the recovery program is probably corrupt.  If you cannot, then the disk may be wrecked.
    I do not believe the recovery disks provide any opportunity for you to back up files.
    Once you run the recovery disks, they wipe everything out, and rebuild the software image that came on your PC.

  • Restoring a Data Backup Made With HP Recovery Manager - Recovery Manager has Since Been Removed

    My system (Pavilion dm4 notebook, Win 7 Home Premium x64)) is working fine but I would like to restore a data backup made with HP Recovery Manager. HP Recovery Manager has since been removed from the system and I do not have a recovery disk. I tried installing sp45415 which supposedly runs a silent installer for Recovery Manager, but it silently fails on my system. The accompanying notes say it is applicable to Windows 7 computers and to Pavilion dm1 and dm3. There is no mention of the dm4. Is there some trick to getting sp45415 to run correctly? Is there somewhere I can download an installation package for HP Recovery Manager that works on the Pavilion dm4? Is there any other tool that can restore the backup made by HP Recovery Manager?  Thanks!

     If you uninstalled Recovery Manager it likely removed the recovery files in the recovery partition.When those files are removed-no download of Recovery Manager is going to install. You will need Recovery Media to boot from to restore the recovery partition and files. If you did not make Recovery Media you will have to order from HP. As for the files you are trying to restore- If this was a backup of personal files,photos,etc to external hard drive or dvds there should be one .exe file inside those files-probably Restore.exe or Recover.exe. Double clicking the .exe will extract the files to a folder on the hard drive of your laptop.

  • Urgent problem with Recovery Manager's File backup operation: No storage device detected

    I have a Pavilion g7-1070us laptop that failed to start and simply displays a blue-screen with a blinking cursor (no error message).

    I was expecting the system to ask me where to save these backed-up files but no such question was asked and this nonsense error message appeared out of nowhere. Apparently the recovery manager couldn't see my DVD or USB drive?
    Can someone throw me a life-saver here? If I cannot recover my files, I cannot proceed with the system restore and I am forever stuck here!!!!!!

    The blinking cursor means the system is attempting to load Windows, but is unable to read the boot files. There are a number of causes including hardware issues. Run the tests as before to ensure the hardware is functional. I would have to run through the software repair steps only to find it is a hardware issue. Hard drives is perhaps the most common component to have issues regardless of the manufacturer.
    I suspect the hard drive will pass the test and will go ahead and link to DavidPK's posts in this thread as they have the best chance to resolve the issue without losing and restoring everything. I do recommend this step at this point since two recoveries did not resolve the issue. DavidPK's solution comes in two parts, so be sure to follow both starting with the first post and moving to the second post should the first one not do the trick.
    Let me know how this goes.

  • HP Recovery Manager - Help with saving my backup files?

    Hi there,
    So I turned my computer on this morning to find that it couldn't start up. It is a good 4 years old, so I was expecting this eventually to heppen, though I hadnt backed up my files yet.
    So anyway, my computer launches HP recovery manager in which it tried to search for the problem, and then it asked what I wanted to do next and it gave a number of different options but I don't remember what they were. Anyway, I pressed "backupp my files" and it lead me to HP file backup. My files have finally been backed up after a good few hours of waiting, and now it is asking me where to back them up. The entire size of the backed up files ready to be saved to an external source is 102.03GB. I don't have any storage devices that are even close to that size - the largest thing I have is an 8 GB usb - is this a problem?
    I have inserted my USB and it recognises it and it says "to continute, click next", but I can't click on next as it is sort of blurred out, its not letting me click on it.... what do i do??
    Do I have to buy a bigger storage device? I was planning just to use my usb and backup 8 GB at a time, saving them onto my other comupter, until the entire 102 GB has been backed up. Is this possible?
    PLease help!
    This question was solved.

    Hi @Chloeb27
    Thank you for your response, I am happy to help!
    I see you have created your backup and it is 102.03 GB and it is ready to put on an external device but you only have a 8GB USB .  When you connected the USB it was recognized but you were unable to click next  as it is greyed out.  That is due to the size of storage device.
    It will not allow you to save it to the USB as it is too small to store the files.  I suggest you purchase an external hard drive and then save it to that.  You can get one at most computer shops or places like Best Buy, Future shop, Walmart any  store that would normally have computer sales.  If you have cloud storage you could also save it to there.
    I hope this has addressed your concern.

  • Unable to restore my files with Hp Recovery Manager

    HP Pavilion G6, operation system Windows 7, we got a malicious software and after we were unable to start the windows, I decided to do a factory restore but before that, I did backup my files from start-up menu with HP Recovery Manager. After the backup was finished successfully, I did the factory restore. And when I would like to restore my files, (I clicked to restore file in the backup, and the restore was finished successfully) I see just the folders, the files I cannot see but they are there. If I go to properties I see the files are there. Also I can see them if I extract with the 7Zip program. But extracting with 7Zip program I can see the files with no folders structure and I cannot see the files names, just numbers. If somebody can help me, I would highly appreciate.

    Inside the dated backup folder should be a a file called restore.exe or
    RecoveryMgr.exe, execute it, it should extract your files and create a "system Recovery" folder on the C drive with your files and folders inside.

    I have checked the database all is fine, i have created a new db and move all mailbox;s over and then removed the old db, i have enabled circular logging and then disabled it, it seems no matter what i do i cannot get a full backup!
    i did have to restore the server once and the backups still worked for about 4 days after that and then stopped, i have also tried to remove and re add the backup role!
    i am stumped, any advice would be great!

    Hi
