  • ThinkPad Twist s230u and ThinkPad x201 Tablet Creating Recovery Media

    Hi Lenovo Customer Support,
    ThinkPad s230u( model number: 3347CTO) - Window 8 Pro.
Before I start using my Laptop, I want to create a Recovery Media as is shown when installed with all partitions. Meaning if I format all contents of Laptop I want a recovery Media brings back computer as I go it in the first place include all partitions. By default there are five hidden partition and one ntfs.
What is the procedure how to Create a Recovery Media? I heard only Flash Recovery exist for Window 8.
Also I have Window 8 Pro but when I tried this link procedure http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Create-Win-8-recovery-media-in-ThinkPad-Thi... I saw only Window 8 option and even then it reboot and did not work.
Also I did Flash Recovery and Took Faster with USB 3.0 Flash around 10 min around 16GB Space
Is it possible to do CD Recovery too ?
    ThinkPad x201 Tablet(Model Number: 30933PG) - Wundow 7 Pro
Can you do Flash Recovery Media and CD Recovery Media under Window 7 Pro  Enviro.
If you upgrade Hard drive to 1T and RAM to 16 G RAM  , Can you Still do the Recovery Media?
What is the Procedure to successfully create Recovery Media.
    Thanks.
    saad

    Reasons am asking this questions:
Sometime you test your computer doing a lot of things learning new technologies etc and suddenly you decide ok I want to take it back to factory state. Until now, most Thinkpad laptop does not come with recovery media. So how can I assure that my Recovery Media includes everything I used to have when I first receive unit.
I want to learn how to do that by myself by learning from the experts.
Until now what I know as follow:
    ThinkPad x201:
I tried recovery media  3 DVD only with original hard drive works. I did not try Flash and not sure there is option yet.
If I upgrade unit with 1T hard drive and 16G Ram, How can I do Recovery Media?
    ThinkPad Twist s230u:
I tried Flash and followed procedure on link in previous post. I took me less than 15 min to recovery whole. The question is does this process recover all the parts that is included when I receive unit.
I was unable to do recovery since I am not sure when in the Flash and during process showed to choose operating system was only Window 8 option not Window 8 Pro which came with unit.
I was able to do reset within system took longer and worked.
Is the recovery part build-in in the hardware or software partition? Is it included in the recovery Flash with all partitions?
Thank You. Awaiting for anyone to reply.

  • Thinkpad Twist S230u: Install clean Windows 8

    Hello Together,
I got a new Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230u and want to install windows 8 without all preinstalled Software.
But i cannot find any Recovery Disc/Partition and there is no Registration Key for Windwos 8 in the Package....
So, how can I extract the clean Windwos 8 Image to take it on an USB Stick and how do i get the Windows 8 Key?
It used to be so easy....
    Thanks for your Help!

    Hi bigwig,
I'm not quite sure what you want to do, but if you are looking to do a clean install without the Lenovo pre-installed software, you are headed down the wrong path.
Here's how you make a copy of the recovery image to USB flash drive.  That can be used to restore your Twist to factory state.  Factory state includes the pre-installed software too.  There isn't a "naked" Win 8 image anywhere on the machine, as far as I know.  Only the full  Wind 8 + Lenovo recovery image.

  • ThinkPad Twist s230u cursor flashing

    Hello,
I own a thinkpad twist s230u (3347 4HU) purchased 3 weeks ago. From the moment I turned it on, it has a major issue. The cursor goes on the right side of the screen, it flashes and it opens windows and applications itself whether it runs on desktop or on tablet mode. The problem appears every time I use the laptop and I can’t do anything. I can’t  write text anywhere due to the cursor flashing. Also most of the times that cursor flashes, the screen jitters too! I updated the bios system to 1.57 version so as most of the rest software including Atmel touch controller firmware update tool, Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, Auto Scroll Utility and many others. I also ran linux ubuntu from a usb flash memory but the problem still existed. So it is not a windows 8 or a driver failure. I noticed that few times when i  turn around the screen or I change screen’s angle, then the problem temporarily subsides for less than a minute. I am very disappointed and frustrated. I never expected to buy a Lenovo product with such a problem.
    Could anyone help me?

I have the same issue, on a brand new Twist.  So this is not some isolated occurrence.  It's a serious problem.  Could someone from Lenovo please respond regarding a fix or plans to address this?

  • How to get a Recovery media for Satellite L305D S5900

I am a Ghanaian who bought a Toshiba laptop about seven months ago. The model is Satellite L305D S5900. I am also in Ghana. I found out from the documents that came with the laptop and your forum that I can order for Recovery media for it with no charge on the software itself.
How do I get this Recovery media for my machine as I am in a different country? What are the things involved?
    Thank You.

Your T500 can burn CD's at the least and if you can access Windows, you should be able to burn a set of recovery discs.
Other than that, I suggest calling support to see what they can do to help. The number in the U.S. is 1-800-426-7378.

  • I need recovery media for an old Toshiba but apparently can't order it. Help!

The other day my TOSHIBA laptop - MODEL # PSM43U-01700P - must've got a virus or something because it started to slow and was unable to open some programs. Thinking the computer was about to go, i started saving my personal files onto a disk, and just after doing so the computer Blue screened and now upon start up it stops and says that it's missing a file <Windows root>\System 32\ ntoskrnl.exe and must have it added in order to continue. I of course, however, didn't realize that upon buying the computer years ago that i should have created my own recovery disks, thinking foolishly that the company would always have this media on hand to order should the need for it arise(Plus i doubt i would've done it properly since i'm not really a computer genius, surprise, surprise)
    Anyway. . .
My problem is that when i tried to order the recovery media for this ancient model, i was told that Toshiba no longer carries this models media at all. So i was just wondering if possibly there's a similar model's media that Toshiba does carry that i'd be able to order instead of this model's that would still work with my computer. I was able to do this with an old DELL I had, and was hoping the same thing was possible with a TOSHIBA.
I'm crossing my fingers here guys. Hope to hear back from you. I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • How do I obtain product recovery media for my Satelite Pro A100?

When I purchased my A100, I was not given any product recovery media. I assumed that it would be pre - installed on a partition on my hard drive. Seems not to be the case.
I wish to resize my primary partition to enable me to install linux on the space that would then be available. Whilst Linux will do that for me, just in case there is an error, I need a copy of the product recovery media for XP and other pre-installed software. Toshiba's contact details on the site are hard to locate.
So I wondered if anyone can point me in the correct direction? I am a UK user.

    Hi
If the recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook, then you should be able to create an recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.
I think you didnt read the user manual after you have received the notebook
Anyway usually the Recovery disk could be ordered here:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But not all recovery disks would be available especially if the notebook series has been discontinued this means that you could not order a recovery disk if the notebook series is too old You could also try to contact an local ASP (service partner) in your country for a help and could try to order such disk there.
Otherwise you have to use an original MS Windows disk all needed drivers are downloadable from the Toshiba European driver page.

  • Recovery Media for Windows 7

    Hello everyone.
I want to buy a Satellite Pro L450-EZ1542.  The statement about the Operating System states:
Genuine Windows® XP Professional (32-bit, SP3) with Recovery Media for Genuine Windows® 7 Professional.
Does this mean that I will be receiving the "Windows 7 Operating System Disks" with the package.  Also does this mean that the computer comes with Windows XP Pro installed.   Thank you everyone.

That's what it sounds like.  You would need to contact ToshibaDirect to verify that though unless someone here has purchased one and knows.  This is just a bunch users helping other users, not official Toshiba Support.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Create Win 8 recovery media in ThinkPad/Thinkcentre/ThinkStation

QuestionMy machine comes preloaded with Windows 8. Unlike Windows 7, Lenovo Think products do not have options to create recovery media in Windows 8 via Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools.
Thus, is there any way to create recovery disc or media for just in case anything happens to my system and i need to recover back the system to factory default state?
AnswerBelow are the instructions for creating the Lenovo Microsoft Windows 8 preload Recovery Media for Lenovo Think branded systems.  A minimum 16GB USB flash drive is required to make a complete backup.
Open Recovery applet by pressing the Microsoft Windows key and X.  Select "Control Panel" from the menu and then select "Recovery" from the Control Panel pane as shown below.
Select "Advanced recovery tools" and then select "Create a recovery drive" as shown below.
Click "Yes" at the User Account Control prompt (if prompted
Make sure that "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive." is checked as shown below.
Select the appropriate USB Flash Drive.
The selected drive will be reformatted during the recovery creation process as shown below.
USB format and file copy will begin.  This process may take up to hour and will display as shown below.
Once the Recovery Media creation has completed, there is the option to delete the recovery partition.  On most systems, this partition is about 10G in size.  Lenovo strongly recommends that this recovery partition remain intact as shown below.
Recovery Media Process is complete and Control Panel can be closed.

Does anyone have further information on this issue? I have a T440S obtained in April. I did not immediately create a recovery drive, nor did I delete anything. But now when I try to create recovery media I receive the same messages mentioned above (the option to "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" is not enabled so I cannot check it; if I click next I get the message that I cannot create a recovery drive..."Some required files are missing". I called Lenovo tech support about this and they said they would send me a CD with Windows 8 recovery media on it. That doesn't entirely help, since my system came preloaded with Windows 8.1 Pro. (Also the system doesn't have an optical drive, tho that is solvable with an external drive). The tech support person said I could use the recovery media to reinstall Windows 8, then upgrade to windows 8.1 and then reinstall all of my apps, which isn't really what I was looking for unless I had a total failure, which I don't. I would however like to be able to repair windows locally if needed. Has anyone been successful at creating a recovery drive with windows pro 8.1?

  • Need Recovery Media for Satellite A660-042 Model PSAW3C-042017

The hard drive on my Satellite A660-042 Model PSAW3C-042017 died on me. I have installed a new HDD but need the RECOVERY MEDIA. The Laptop was purchased in Canada, Toshiba USA does not seem to have the Recovery Media for this model and Toshiba Canada will not mail it to the USA. Can anyone help?

All the stuff for your Canadian model is here.
Toshiba Canada will not mail it to the USA.
I'm really surprised at that. Toshiba in the US mails them to Canada for US models.
    Have you called 800-663-0378 yourself?
If that's true, you'll need to have an acquaintance order the discs and reship them.

  • Where can I get recovery media for Equium A100-549

I need help please, I bought an A100-549 over the internet, it did'nt come with any recovery media.
It now has a serious virus and I need to restore it. Where can I get recovery media for my laptop?
    Cheers

    Hi,
where did you buy it?? On Ebay? If yes then you must contact the person which sold you the machine. If you have no chance to get such recovery, then you will have to contact a
local ASP to obtain a recovery.
If you dont want to obtain a recovery, and you have a genuine Windows copy lying around, then install it, download the appropriate drivers for that machine from the toshiba website and install
    them afterwards you installed windows.

  • OS : Win XP Prof SP3 ... with Recovery Media for Win 7 Prof

    i. 2nd attempt. The 1st didn't show.
ii.This is my first post in this forum, so I'm not sure whether email Notification is automatically sent if there's a reply.
iii. On Nov 22, 2010, I contacted Toshiba pre-sales Support for info on the same subject.  I haven't received a response yet.
    Hello;
    1) I'm about to buy a new Toshiba laptop:
    .... Toshiba TECRA A11-S3540
    .... OS : Win XP Prof SP3
......... : with recovery media for Win 7 Prof
    .... Processor : Intel Core i7 - 620M
    .................. : 2.66 GHz / 3.33 GHz with Turbo boost
    2) What is particularly attractive about this model (at least on paper and as I interpret its specs) is that it comes with Win XP SP3 OS, and I can upgrade to Win 7, if I choose to and at my convenience, with what appears to be a minimum hassle.
    3) I have reviewed Jim's article at:
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Recovery-media/m-p/9148#U9148
but still have some basic questions, and I'd very much appreciate your help:
a--> What does " ... with recovery media for Win 7 Prof" really mean ??
b--> What does it include ??
c--> Does the laptop come with Win 7 OS software pre-stored on the HD ??
d--> Is there a time limit for installing Win 7 on the unit ??
e--> What if 6-12 months after purchasing the laptop, tried to install Win 7 and it failed and I ended up with NO OS ??
f--> Can I go back safely to the Win XP Prof SP3 OS ??
g--> Does Toshiba consider failure to install Win 7 as a major malfunction and would replace the unit at no cost within the provided 3-yr warranty ??
Your comments and advice would be gratefully received.
    Kind regards.

I'll take another shot, Monir (with the same proviso that I'm probably not the best one here to reply).
    d. Does it mean the unit comes with the 2 versions of Windows 7 (the 32 and the 64 bit) pre-installed ??
    e. Can one choose which of the 2 Win 7 version to use ??
    f. Let us say the laptop comes with the Win 7 32-bit version:
    g. What does " ... with Windows XP Professional downgrade" really mean ??
    h. Does it mean the Win XP OS software is there if you want to downgrade from the pre-installed Win 7 ??
    i. Does it mean ONLY the option to downgrade from Win 7 is there, but one has to buy Windows XP OS if he wants to install it ??
d&e. My guess is that when the laptop arrives, you'll have the opportunity when you first boot to choose which version to put on the hard drive. They are stored in another (hidden) partition on the same drive.
g&h. It means the same as before (except this time for Windows XP), that there are recovery discs included which enable you to restore the hard drive to Windows XP.
    i. Everything is included. You don't have to buy anything.

  • Fix for slow-as-hell refurb ThinkPad Twist S230u

I recently got a refurbished ThinkPad Twist, and I was having issues with lagging - everything was taking forever, both web-based and local. Kept monitoring performance and nothing seemed amiss with memory or processing, nothing wrong with my internet connection. After a little digging I found that using Lenovo Solution Center solved my problem - it prompted me to update the BIOS, there was some kind of update related to power management, and there were some Windows patches. As soon as I did that everything was running as smooth as silk. Seems a little shady the refurb people wouldn't have done those updates since they came out before I got the laptop, but whatever, just glad I got it solved. I thought I was going to have to try a factory reset but no!
I just wanted to share here since I spent a ridiculous amount of time winding my way through the labyrinthine Lenovo website, when all I had to do was go to Start and type "update." So if, like me, you're pissed off that your brand-new-to-you machine is faulty, do yourself a favor and try that first and see where it gets you.
You can also do a hardware scan through Lenovo Solution Center - which it seems like if you just got a refurbished machine and the hardware scan didn't come out clean that would be a tip-off that they didn't do their due diligence in testing it.

Thank you.  I bought my Twist brand new and it has always run slowly until now thanks to your post.  I really appreciate it.

  • Default Partitions for lenovo Twist s230u

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo Twist (s230u) and need to do a system recovery. Unfortunately, neither the F11 option is working nor recovering from win 8 itself. I do not have a win8 disk (wasn't supply with the computer) !
The only option I guess is to get a win8 drive and do a clean install. Before I do this and reformat the drive, can someone tell me what to do with the different partition on the HDD and the SDD ? I see the disk is divided into multiple partitions... Even if I do a clean win 8 installation, what should I do about the 260 Mb, 1000Mb and 7 Gb partitions (EFI, recovery and recovery respectively) Are they necessary ?
What about the SSD ? Technically I guess since it is separated, it shouldn't affected.
    Thank you
    Cyril

    Hello and welcome,
Easiest - if your drive stays alive long enough - is to make a recovery flash drive and use that to restore to a new drive.
Methodology to create Recovery Media and reload a Lenovo system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload
If you have a MS Win 8 install DVD of the matching version you can just copy the contents to a FAT32-formatted flash drive and use that for a clean install.  The license is in BIOS and shoud be picked up.  (CAVEAT: I've done installs from flash, but not verified that the license is picked up.)
Note that the copy-to-flash install works for MS media but not for Lenovo recovery DVDs.
Worst case: use a USB DVD drive.  Worst, worst case: purchase recovery DVDs from Lenovo support _and_ use an external drive.

  • How to trigger the BIOS CRISIS Recovery mode for Thinkpad T61.

For any other laptop, there's a possibility to run a BIOS crisis recovery, by holding Win-B or Fn-B and a few other conditions, one can make the laptop to boot up from a USB floppy drive and restore BIOS even if it's not working. But it seems that it doesn't work for ThinkPads, or I don't know to trigger the mode.
    Thank you in advance.

Your post was very helpful. It did the trick. The photos of the screens and etc. helped.
I am using a Toshiba laptop that came with Winddows 8.1 (64bit), which allegedly supports UEFI boot.
Initially, the boot failed and after trying different settings I recalled a statement that not all USBs work the same and results may vary. I tried another USB and your selections worke perfect.
I did not revert the BIOS settings and the machine boots properly to the normal login.
My need for a bootable USB is to boot the laptop if the hard drive fails. This allows to either re-image it or replace the hard drive and for re-image it. The key is the bootable media.
    Thanks for your effort..!
