My Hp Laptop wont start, just get a HP symbol then it trys to auto recover but this never works.
Then advises to use a CD or USB recover, but cant find anywhere to download this from.

Help! Data recovery needed after lapse of thought... Suggestions please

All was going well with my Mini Server, but apart from the boot partition, I had no back-up plan in place which made me uncomfortable. So in seek of a performance upgrade and a back-up solution I ordered a larger 750GB HDD for bay 1 and a SSD for bay 2 along with 8GB RAM and an enclosure for the two existing drives to provide my core back-up solution for bay 1.
Installing the RAM and drives was sweet, but alas I had a lapse of thought at least twice. In my wisdom I decided that as the internal drives would form a core part of my back-up solution, I didn't need to back-up them up before the upgrade as I would clone across afterwards. In hindsight, I should have cloned them first and then put them in.
Anyway, my key oversight was putting the drives straight into a raid enclosure set for JBOD/Span and plugging the drive in. I did not initialize the disk when the window popped up, I chose ignore and then ejected from disk utility. I removed the drives and put them in individual enclosures, but alas simply turning on the drives in the raid enclosure did something to the file system as now they both flag up the initialize window when connecting.
I then purchased Data Rescue 3 in the hope it would recover the files. Unfortunately, on the first drive, whilst the software thought it had recovered most of the data, none of the files will open, with messages warning the file may be corrupt or it is an unrecognised format.
So, has anyone got any suggestions of how to reverse whatever the enclosure did when I switched the drives on? Or any other data recovery solutions I can try?

Good news, after a little more research and switching Data Rescue to expert mode and tweaking the allocation block layout, I managed to recover all bar one small partition for which I have a copy of the files elsewhere I believe the data could be retrieved if I spent time trying to get the file offset, but given I have the files elsewhere I am not going to spend time on it!
So thanks to Data Rescue I managed to recover 450GB of iTunes and another 50GB of other important data. What a life saver as 90%+ of my cd collection is in storage in another country, which would have been somewhat inconvenient!
Something else to learn from this experience though is partitioning a drive means the allocation block layout can be different across the drive, as the partitions can use different layouts. That was what caused me the most issues on one of the drives and why I failed in my initial recovery, as I was just using the base settings in Data Rescue.
I hope no one else needs this info, but someone may have a similar lapse in judgement and it may save some time if you know you may need to tweak the allocation block layout.

Iphone 3gs in recovery; needs restore; but gets error code

I have a new 3gs Iphone.
I installed the newest version of ITUNES- 9.something.
I start the SETUP IPHONE PROCESS.
I am told that I need to upgrade to new Iphone OS.
It takes 2 hours to download.
I get an error
I try to reconnect the iphone - GET MESSAGE that the phone is in recovery and needs to be restored.
I start restore - i get an error. I start again. It shows all the green bars as completed but then freezes. I restart the computer.
ITUNES tells me again that Iphone is in recovery and needs restore.
I start restore. I get a message: The Iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (14).
I don't know what to do.

I have had this same problem, and you'll find out it will eventually work, but then after that your phone wont even start up and wont be able to connect to your computer! it's only allowing me to make Emergency Calls
This new update has really peeved me, i need my phone for work.
Try another computer, updating itunes, or different ports, restarting computer. Only thing i can think of sorry.

Rescue and Recovery - Need to restore data

I had Rescue and Recovery going on a N100-0768 laptop using Vista Business. Recently that laptop was stolen. I've purchased a G550 with W7Pro. Now I cannot install Rescue and Recovery 4.3 for W7 because apparently this G550 isn't in the list of supported Lenovo systems. I need the critical data I've backed up - how do I access that data?

Have the same problem myself, there is no available download for OneKey Recovery for WIn 7 64bit. I had the 32Bit RC Build 7100 installed previously and used the Vista version and it worked OK before, no such luck with the 64bit version. I'm irritated right now as I also need to back-up critical data, I'm using the Window back-up and Win Rescue disk but it defeats the purpose of having the OneKey Recovery Key.

Cannot perform Mac OSX recovery need help

I am hoping that I can find the help to my issue here as I need this machine up for business. I m having trouble reinstalling the OS as it is stating that it cannot find the system folder (folder with ?). I have tried to perform recovery installation holding down command R and also the other option of holding X down whilst boot up but it seems the keyboard shortcuts are not working or is there a more serious problem. I tied the RAID sets yesterday and all came back all drives seem to be ok. I am baffled as to what I can do. Any help is always appreciated.

You have no recovery partition. This is a normal condition if your boot volume is a RAID.
You have several options for reinstalling.
1. If you have access to a local, unencrypted Time Machine backup volume, and if that volume has a backup of a Mac (not necessarily this one) that was running the same major version of OS X and did have a Recovery partition, then you can boot from the Time Machine volume into Recovery by holding down the option key at the startup chime. Encrypted Time Machine volumes are not bootable, nor are network backups.
2. If your Mac shipped with OS X 10.7 or later preinstalled, or if it's one of the computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery, you may be able to netboot from an Apple server by holding down the key combination option-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
3. Use Recovery Disk Assistant (RDA) on another Mac running the same major version of OS X as yours to create a bootable USB device. Boot your Mac from the device by holding down the option key at startup.Warning: All existing data on the USB device will be erased when you use RDA.
Once you've booted into Recovery, the OS X Utilities screen will appear. Follow the prompts to reinstall OS X. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
If none of the above choices is open to you, then you'll have to start over from an OS X 10.6.8 installation. There's no need to overwrite your existing boot volume; you can use an external drive. Install 10.6 from the DVD you originally used to upgrade, or that came with the machine. Run Software Update and install all available updates. Log into the App Store with the Apple ID you used to buy 10.7 or later, and download the installer. When you run it, be sure to choose the right drive to install on.

IPhoto Recovery Needed!

Hi there,
Some time ago I needed to format my drive in order to perform a clean installation. So I started the back up to DVD option and backed up more than 5000 photos on a DVD.
Then I formatted the HD and when it was time to restore those photos back into iPhoto, it said there is problem with the DVD! My only chance it whatever data that has been recorded correctly on the DVD but I don't know where to take it to? Can I send it to Apple and they help me with the recovery?
If anybody can help me as what to do and were to take or send the DVD so at least some of the photos can be recovered I really appreciate it.

If your Canon camera, like most Canon cameras, prevents the card inside it from mounting (appearing on the desktop) when you connect the camera via USB cable, the camera itself is undoubtedly what's interfering with the operation of your recovery software. Why Canon has adopted this dunderheaded mode of operation throughout all or most of its camera line is beyond me.
Buy a $10 card reader, remove the card from your camera, and insert it in the reader. Then connect it to the Mac and use your recovery software on it. This will get your camera out of the way and should enable you to recover your pictures quickly and easily, as long as you haven't written anything new to the card since you formatted it.

Failed Hard Drive, Assistance with OS Recovery Needed!!!

First time being here because I haven't had a problem with my Lenovo y510p up until now. Unfortunately though, all good things must to an end. I've confirmed through tests with my desktop's hdd diagnostic software that my Lenovo y510p's hard drive has finally kicked the bucket. Failed the read and the write tests entirely. I'm convinced that I need a new hdd. I know how to go about obtaining a new hdd, however how would I go about reinstalling the copy of Windows 8.1 that came with my y510p?
Will I have to jump/cut through a bunch of red tape involved with Lenovo, or is the process painless?
tl;dr > My hard drive is shot to hell and I do not have the product key for the copy of windows 8.1 that managed my y510p when it was running fine. How do I get a hold of the OS's key so I may purchase another hdd and install the same "technical" copy of windows?

I would just remove the second drive while doing the recovery operation and slap it back in when the process is done. Better safe than sorry. Theoretically the recovery disks will not affect the second drive but it is really easy to be 100% sure they will not.

Formatted external hard drive from PC to Mac - Data Recovery Needed

I formatted an external hard drive configured to (PC) for a Mac.
I clicked erase data by accident during the process of formatting -- My old files are no longer there now.
Is there a way to recover the old files that I had on there before the reformat?

General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Highlight Recovery needs improvement.

I've just been fiddling with the trial version of Capture One 4, and one thing shines when compared to Lightroom. The result form the highlight recovery tool is far,far more natural looking that what can be achieved by Lightroom.
So, the request is obvious.

Lightroom's highlight recovery slider does not only reconstruct the colors, but also affects the tone curve. It 'pulls in' the highlights, so to speak.
I can understand the reasoning behind this: simplicity. If you have a photo that is otherwise well exposed, but has blown highlights, increasing the highlight recovery compresses the highlights and reconstructs blown-out channels at the same time.
Unfortunately, this means that a 'pure' highlight recovery (reconstruction) *without* highlight compression is not available. For better control, I would have preferred to control these functions separately.

S3180D recovery need help.

I can't seem to make the HP recovery manager to work. My bro installed win7 on it and it now crashed i wanted to do a recovery using the HP recovery manager but it always brings me to the windows state with safe mode and etc. i can't find the recovery disc that i have created for the pc when i bought it.
Any help and or information would bre great. Is there a place i can get a recovry disc for my pc?
