Recovery Not burning

I have recently bought a new hard drive and would like to install it. The only problem is that the recovery disks are not burning to DVD+R properly. I have tried Sony, verbatim, mem and also have tried safe mode. It fails on the final verification step and will not let me continue to make the new disks. I have updated the software firmware, and checked the drivers. Is there something to download that would let me just copy it to a flash drive? I do not have the option in the recovery center. I really don't want to order the disks and wait on them my computer is toast and need it fixed, Really thinking about going and buying a windows 8 disk and giving up. This shouldnt be hard to do this upgrade, is there another way to get a install disk for windows 7 other than buying it? YOu would think HP would offer just a download of the disk instead of ordering it, my burner works fine just not with the recovery. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Hello to both you:
HP Touchsmarts CD/DVD optical drive are very picky no you do not have to use HP's Discs. Maxell DVD-R and CD-R work and are very cheep Rite Aid carries them and usaully are on sale most of the time as well. Now for DVD play back Open up HP's DVD player. Click Settings. You will see an update. This up date is cyberlink update witch cost $80.00 +. No guaranty it will work. This is for DVD's codes. Alot of people have complained about and had troubles getting it reinstalled after a recovey was made. For the same price you can purchase Lenovo Model # DY-8A8NH13C  USB eteranal cd/dvd drive.  As the USB DVD/CD player has media play back given in discription you are all set. Because there are different brands and makes on the market. You will never have to worry about opening up disks. burning disks , and paying over and over for an up that might work for DVD play back. The above USB external CD/DVD drive requires no software works with all players except HP's DVD player. frrw

  • Windows 7 does not recognize cd/dvd drive. Will not burn a disc

In November 2013, I  bought a refurbished hp Compaq 7900 convertible minitower, Product No. NJ3226UC#ABA, 32-bit.  Windows 7 and WMP 12 were installed by the company that refurbished it.   WMP's  play, rip, burn, sync worked perfectly.
I made the mistake of installing itunes.  I purchased music and made a playlist from my library and itunes.  I tried to burn the playlist with Memorex discs.  WMP burn would kick out the cd at 99% complete.  I tried a different brand of disc and had the same  problem.  The message each time was 'Windows Media Player Encountered an error while burning. Verify that the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged.'  I tried burning a disc using itunes burner but it didn't do anything.
First, I removed every Apple application from my computer.  Then I ran Microsoft CD/DVD trouble shooter.  It didn't correct the problem and gave me the message "cannot locate CD/DVD burner".  I ran trouble shooter in the Control  Panel selected System Security's, Find and Fix. Then Selected  Configure a Device .  Results were 'Hardware may not be detected try to do what you wanted to do again' I tried 2-3 times.  WMP would not burn.  Tried Apple for help and didn't want to reinstall itunes.  I reinstalled Quick Time.   Followed Microsoft's 5-step resolutions:
              1.  Used the troubleshooter in Control Panel.
              2.  Ran CD/DVD Fixit trouble shooter.
              3.  Manually fix corrupted registry.
              4.  Update or reinstall driver.
              5.  Create a sub registry key.
I tried to burn after every step and got the same result.it burned to 99% and kicked out. I used system restore back to May 15, 2014  thaat was before installing iTunes.  No burn.   Checked  driver and response was that 'Driver is working.  No problem was found'.    Today, ran Troubleshooter in ControI Panel and this was the messsage, 'Configuration Settings May Be Incorrect'.  How do I correct  this?  Help!  What next?

    Hi,
You were given some very good advice on your other post.  I ran into a very similar issue when I had installed iTunes and the end result was that I had to do a factory recovery back to a day one condition. Then I had to do a slow software installation process, checking every time I had installed a third party application.  I got tripped up a couple of times but determined that I had to install iTunes before installing other CD/DVD media programs (Roxio,WMP and Cyberlink).
Do a fresh OS installation without the extra third party software and then install Imgburn.  Then use Imgburn to determine the capabilities of your optical drive and match the media specifications those detected by Imgburn to the media type that you are using. Do not use cheap media as the firmware in your optical drive may not support it. I prefer to use Verbatim media. Now see if Imgburn will burn your optical media before attempting to install iTunes and other CD/DVD optical media programs.

  • Recovery not creating a bootable HD

    HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl - purchased March 2011
    Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
While in a middle of a Windows session, this laptop reported a HD issue. I immediately began a system backup that failed about halfway through.  Diagnostic testing reported "41% Complete.../Hard Disk 1 Full (305)" and "SMART Check/Hard Disk 1 SMART (301)", and stopped there. Searched the HP Support website as to what these codes meant and the predominant message is to contact HP support (not very useful IMO). Fortunately I created the Recovery DVDs (6 total) shortly after aquiring this laptop so I figured I'm good.
As it appeared to be a HD issue, I replaced the original Samsung 640GB with a HGST 1TB.  Then I booted the laptop with disk 1 of my Recovery set and it opened up Recovery Manager. I chose Factory Reset and inserted the disks as stated on the screen. At the last screen it said: "to remove the disk, click continue, and the laptop will restart and complete the recovery" (I'm paraphrasing). I did that and it did restart, but with a message "No bootable device..." I turned the laptop off and then on (after a 1 minute wait) and the same message appeared.
Tried the recovery process again this time with the Minimized Image Recovery option. Same result with "No bootable device...". I then attached a USB drive with a bootable Linux distro to see if the laptop saw the new HD (it did) and if anything was on the new HD (there was). On this new HD are all the folders I would expect to see right after a Win 7 OS install but it won't boot.
    My questions:
    What do those codes mean?
Why is the Recovery not working?
How can I get my laptop to work again?
Thanks in advance for your help.

OK, that's interesting. When I ran that file on my desktop to burn the bootable CD, an early screen said that it's for use with recovery disks that come from HP, not recovery disks that were created by the user.  Then at the end of the burn process, a window came up with just the program name and [Yes], [No], and [Cancel] buttons. Not sure what to do, I clicked [Yes] and it proceeded to restart my desktop but I managed to get the CD out before it could run. I now infer that the missing phrase in the window is "Do you want to run Cyberlink..."
That being said, it did the trick. My laptop now boots and I have the task of seeing what was backed up and if it's worth restoring.
Finally before I mark it "Solved", please answer my first question as to what those error codes mean. HP is doing a dis-service to those of us that are technically savvy by not elaborating.

  • I am trying to burn some cds from my playlist on itunes, but my playlist shows many of my songs in light print and says that it will not burn because it is not a file, these are all songs I have purchased quite a while ago, how do i get them to files?

I am trying to burn some cds from my playlist on itunes, but my playlist shows many of my songs in light print and says that it will not burn because it is not a file, these are all songs I have purchased quite a while ago, how do i get them to files?

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

  • I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells  me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

I can not burn a CD with my itunes anymore. It tells me to re download itunes. I have done that and still have the same problem. When I do try, Missing disc recorder keeps coming up. Please help!!!!

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

  • ITunes 8.1 will now not burn/import or play anything at all.

Ok since installing the new 8.1 upgrade of iTunes I am now unable to anything at all. First of all a window popped up tp inform me that the drivers could not be found so I couldn't burn so please re-install iTunes. So I did and now not only will it not burn anything, it will not import ( it won't recognise any cd that i put into my drive at all ),it won't recognise my ipod and it won't play anything that is in my music library at all. So is there going to be a repair to this from apple at any point? I now have now way of getting anything onto my ipod at all. I have tried to re-install itunes several times since and still get nothing. It just does not do anything at all!!! Come on apple, this is serious, can someone please sort it?

try removing the iTunes, then do a fresh install and this time check the box for installing both Bonjour for Windows and Quick Time.

  • Drop zone of loop in the film stip template, works in simultor, not burning

Droping a loop from the film into the drop some in a chapter menu and it shows up on the simulator. when I go to burn or build etc there is just white where the loop should be. everything else is workinng fine just but no loop- any ideas out there?
    thnx

OK bigger problem- the all NTSC DVD that used the same template [film strip] also had no problem in the simulator, but I just build/formated it, and the drop zones in the menu buttons whent all white again- same as yesterday. I also checked and they were all software based in the menu prefs. something is wrong here, there is like a "flash frame" of the first frame of the loop, frozen for a split second. and then when the motion starts it all goes to white in zone. I am really flumixed here, did I change something in the targets or is it still burn realted? but why does it work in the simulator, like a charm and then it does not burn????? FRUSTRATED

  • Help! 13" macbook pro will not boot.  Tried running disk repair from HD recovery, not repairable.  Trying to reinstall OSx Lion, says disc is locked.  Do I have to erase the drive and lose everything?  I also have Bootcamp installed, will boot to Win OK

Tried running disk repair from HD recovery, not repairable.  Trying to reinstall OSx Lion, says disc is locked.  Do I have to erase the drive and lose everything?  I also have Bootcamp installed, will boot to Windows no problem.

    Hotrodmkviii,
try rebooting in Recovery mode, but when you reach the Mac OS X Utilities menu, run Terminal (from Utilities in the menu bar) instead. Inside the Terminal window, give it the following command, and then press the Return key:
    diskutil list
Please include in your reply the output from that command.

  • Idvd will not burn after upgrade to maverick

    Hello-
I just upgraded to maverick and now iDVD will not burn a DVD - says it does not have a compatible superdrive. It was working fine until I upgraded. How can I burn a nice DVD now?

Suggestion only. Before launching, did you also check for updates via apple's software updater?

  • Superdrive will not burn on mountain lion

After installing mountain lion on iMac, superdrive will not burn or recognize cd/dvd. Have tried several different brands and burning software with same results.

If you have a CD or DVD, insert the disk and see what happens. If the drive kicks back the disk or gives you some kind of error message, then it's most likely a hardware issue, and might require a repair. However, if the drive seems to work fine mechanically, then it's a software issue.

  • Will not burn photos to disc

iPhoto will not burn photos to a DVD disc(Maxell DVD+R).
    iMac response is:
"The burn to the SuperDrive drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry."
These Maxell DVD's are probably 2+ years old. However, I was able to burn 2 disc early this morning. Could it be a heat problem with the SuperDrive?
    Your Thoughts?

If you have burned 5 or 6 disc in a row then maybe heat could be a concern.  I don't think so with just 2.  Are you able to burn a disc, CD or DVD, from the Finder or is it just from iPhoto?
Run the Apple Hardware test as described here: OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test

  • IDVD will not burn disc after QT update

IDVd used to work just fine. I did software update and updated Quicktime to version 7. I found that my Quicktime Pro key for QT 6 would not work with QT 7. I called Apple support and they told me how to revert back to QT 6. I followed their steps and successfully have QT Pro 6 back, but not my iDVD projects will not burn. It gets to stage 4 multiplex and burn and spins for hours. When I hit cancel, the disc ejects and is unburnt.
I have followed Apples steps to solve a no burn when you upgrade to iDVD 4.0.1 (remove encoded assets) and this does not fix the problem.

    Hi Dennis
There is ways to delete all of QT and then make a clean install but the
easiest way is to download a back to QT 6.5.2 file from Apple support
    and downloads.
I've done this and keep it till I get an upgrade that takes away the old
files before installing the new ones.
    Yours Bengt W
