RECOVERY OF PASSWORD KEEPER DATA

Have Bold 9700 and got JVM Error 102 message.  Had backed up couple days ago.  Was my Password Keeper data backed up and will it be recoverable?  This is tragic.  Any thoughts welcome regarding any aspect of dealing with this error message.  HOW do you talk to a tech person at RIM?  Thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
There are several threads throughout these forums about the JVM 102 error. Many claim to have workarounds that recover without losing data. I've not idea if they are valid or not. There is a formal RIM KB on the matter here, which includes what I was going to advise...reload your OS and restore from the backup. The backup should contain all of the databases on the BB...which are listed in this KB. Good job on taking a recent backup, though...many don't bother, and wind up in much more pain than you.

Front line support for BB's is, by contract, not provided by RIM. The carriers and authorized resellers are responsible for front line formal support to end users. It is possible to bypass your carrier and seek assistance direct from RIM, but such involves fees since you are bypassing your support agreement with your carrier. The "Support and Services" tab toward the top of these forum pages provide information about that. But, if you do go through your carrier for support, they can escalate into RIM at no fee to you if they so choose to.
Good luck!

  • Accessing Password Keeper Data using Desktop Software

I recently had a pressure crack to the LCD on my Curve 8310.
I need to access my stored passwords in Password Keeper, however since the LCD is toast, can't read anything on the phone.
I'm waiting on a replacement LCD, but need Password, ASAP.
Is there any programs to view the program on the pc?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I tried a solution which did actuall work, so I figured I would post in case anyone else has this same problem.
I had previously backed up the data from my Blackberry Curve 8310 using the Desktop Management Software.
I downloaded a Simulatr for my Curve 8310 and installed the software.  I found the simulator at BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators - URL
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/resources/simulators.jsp
Once the program was installed I ran the program, which brings up an image of the phone.
I started my Desktop Management Software.
Now back in the Smartphone Simulator
In the menu, I selected "USB Cable Connected" which simulates connecting the smartphone.
Once I did this, the Desktop Management Software prompted me to create settings for then new phone.
Once I set up this new Virtual Phone, I Restored my backup from the Desktop Management Software to the New Virtual Phone.
I could then use the mouse to go to the Password Keeper and open the program.  It prompted me for my password and all of the data appeared.
Hope this helps someone else.  Good Luck.

  • Copying data into Password Keeper

Is there any way to copy data from a Word (or Excel) document into Password Keeper?  Could you email the Word or Excel document to yourself, open up the doc on your BB, and then copy and paste into P'word Keeper?  I'd appreciate any suggestions/thoughts for how to do this.  I have a massive number of passwords and it would be easier to type them into Word or Excel and then copy and paste them into Passwork Keeper. (I recognize that for security purposes, I'd want to delete the document, etc.).  Thank you.

Yes, emailing yourself the document and simply copy/pasting from the Word/Excel document to the PK application would work.
There is not a simpler import function into Password Keeper.
If you want a more full-featured password keeper application, check out DataVault or KeePass.

You cannot.  If it is in recovery mode, the data is already gone.
Did you fail to make sure everything was on your computer before updating?

You can reinstall it from the operating system, but you can only restore the old backup.
You obviously can't restore infomation which was never backed up.

  • Help with Password Keeper

I keep a list of passwords in my BlackBerry using the Password Keeper application.  When I enter my password, I am getting the following message:
“A password entry created on 1/28/2008 is protected by an old password.  Please enter the old password to convert the entry:”  If I select Delete Entry, it gives me the same message but changes the date of the entry.
The password I am entering is correct but I don’t know the password entry created on the listed date(s). I have used the same password since I received this BlackBerry.  Password Keeper will not accept any password that I enter.
PLEASE HELP!  I have numerous passwords stored that I can't access.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    absolutely,
I would recommend Desktop Manager, version 5, withOUT the Media Manager. Download Desktop Manager from here:

  • Question about Password Keeper

    Hello All,
This is my first forum post.  Does anyone know if it is possible to retrieve password keeper information from the blackberry desktop manager?  I did a backup and restore on my old phone, which had a broken screen, and am trying to retrieve the passwords to put on my new phone.  The at&t rep did not know if the desktop manager kept this information or not.  When I did a restore on my new phone, the passwords did not transfer.  I appreciate any advice.  Thanks.
    Todd

Hello ToddStoner and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
The password keep should have backed up the data. If you go to do an advanced restore (as shown in KB23680 for Desktop Manager 6.0 or KB03953 for all other versions) you should see the Password Keeper database.
When you access the Password Keeper on your BlackBerry, did it ask for the existing password or create a new one?

  • Password Keeper Find Function no longer works

I just upgraded to a BlackBerry Curve and was very happy when my Password Keeper just showed up, accepted my old password and had my database. However, the find function no longer works. If I type A, is says no passwords found even though I can see a bunch as soon as I open it. So how does one fix and non-functioning password keeper find function. It is painful trying to get to the ones that start with "Z!"

Try a simple reboot on the device and check again.
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Password Keeper, Memo's & Tasks

So I heavely used the Password Keeper, Memo's, & Tasks apps!
The BlackBerry Reminder does great, and it's a total substitute for the Memos. It's ok for Tasks, but the due date can only be a day. I sometimes need to add a specific time as well. Is this possible with Remember and I missed it somehow?
My biggest problem is Password Keeper, this was a great simple app! Now I'm stuck with a ton of accounts backed up on my laptop but no way to get them to my Z10! There aren't any good apps for password keeping either.  Any suggestions?
    Wadi

download 'password keeper' from blackberry world. This is a BB developed app.
Don't know if you can import from your old phone, but you can re enter everything

  • Password Keeper Problems

So I gave my password keeper a password that I know I wouldn't forget. There is only one password it can be. It worked perfect for a few days and always let me in using my password. All of a sudden today, I tried getting into password keeper, and it says the password is wrong! I know for a fact it's not. I retyped it a few times and made sure i spelled it right and everything. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm 99.9% sure I have the right password.

Crazy:  I just posted on the Password Keeper thread about same problem.  Major disaster brewing for me if I can't restore my data in there after I hit the 10th try and get wiped.  Others have said to back up to Desktop Manager, wipe the Password Keeper with 10 tries, then restore the file with a new password from DM.  Sounds too simple so I'm waiting for some encouragement from other before I take the plunge.  Stay tuned.

  • Password Keeper would not show asterisks. Last attempt left

Suddenly my bb bold password keeper would not accept my password. I know i am entering it correctly. it doesnt show asterisk anymore which is explainable in forums but it would still not accept my password. on 8th attempt i entered "blackberry" and last attempt left. what should i go for. as my data is not backed up yet i am intending to back it up right now before i proceed further with the steps you will kindly suggest.
    Thank you

Often users who have multiple numerals in their password will only press the ALT key for the first numeral and not those following, so for instance, if your password were "1234", you might have been pressing "Alt 1234" on the device, which makes the actual password to be "1ers".
Does that make sense? Does it sound familar to your usage?
So check the way you enter your password on the device... do you think you are entering multiple numbers but actually are not?

  • Retrieve password keeper and memo pad

I have an 8900. After recently having technical difficulties w/my device, a security wipe and restore were necessary. Restore via DM did restore all but my password keeper and memo pad. How can I retrieve these very imortant applications with data intact?

You will need to install the OS to your computer and then use loader.exe to install the apps back to the device. What OS version do you have on the new device? Compose a new mail and in the body type "myver"without the quotes and hit the space bar. Please post that version number and your carrier.
