Recovery of skype chat history

Hello, I'm wondering if I can get piece of advice for the following concern regarding chat history.
1. I did formatting on my system and lost all the Chat history of skype.
2. Is Skype organization taking any backup of chat history on their server... And if so then what's the process to get it back. Is any free service or even paid service available to get the chat history back?
3. Any piece of advice would be much appreciated as I'm about to lose lots of important information saved in my chat archive

ok i dont not understand how that program website is going to stop me from listening to 1000 beeps the first itme i login to skype on a fresh install of mint linux 17
this is totall BS. and i think whoever the heck develops teh api needs to seriously fix this.
because windows doesnt do that and why should skype.
its bascially a god darn pain in the ass to even use skype for first 10 mins.
I have to MUTE my speakers people. it sends in 100000 or more im not joking, and it IGNORES the disable history option i set every single time
this close to making my friend boycott skype altogether while we stay in linux cause this is gay and stupid.

Where is Skype chat history in Lion?

It took me forever to figure this out. Basically, in Lion you don't have easy access to your Library folder anymore (you can only see the main system folder).
I wiped my HDD before installing Lion, and didn't know where to put the Skype chat history files — as I keep those token of all the funny conversations I've had with people. I thought there's a new place or something. But in fact, the Library folder is now hidden.

Normally I backup skype text before moving to a new pc or set up my OS. But last time I forget to do it. I have some important chat history. When I log in to my skype in new OS. It automatically shows my important chat msg. But after 30 sec it was gone then I reinstall skype again and it's happen same. Every time I reinstall skype I got my chat history automatically back but after 30 sec to 1 min it was gone.
By the way, in my android mobile I have a skype too. I can access all my chat history from here. But normally I want it to my desktop. Is there any solution?

Have you tried making a backup of your main.db file then try viewing it with Skype log viewer or Sqlite database viewer?

If the data is there you should be able to read it. If there is some corruption in the database file you can try using Skyperious to see if it can repair it or join it with another empty database file (cleared history). In any case you may want to backup your %appdata%/Skype folder before attempting such things.
If you have root access to your phone you could also try backing up that main.db file or possibly transplanting that information over to your desktop if the data is missing by replacing the current file or using Skyperious to merge the old data. Remember when you perform clean installs of your OS your Skype history does not go with you. It would be best to retrieve that main.db file from before you reloaded the OS via a planned backup. What could be happening is the data could be attempting to sync from your phone but eventually only pulls/limits the information from the cloud (up to 30 days).

I need to print my chat history in a way that can be used for official documentation. I can cut and patse in word but that doesn't really capture any form of authenticity. Is there any way to do this correctly?

Can others see my Skype Chat History?

I have used Skype on a computer that is not mine anymore. Now I am affraid that others can possibly see my Chat History on the computer, because I forgot to delete it.
So, is it possible for others to find my Chat history on the computer when they do not have my password? Does the computer keep some kind of log file?

Yes, they can. Your conversations history, voice messages and pictures are stored on your computer.
File that Skype looks for conversation is main.db .
C:\Users\Tamim\AppData\Roaming\Skype\tamim\main.db
C:\Users\Tamim\AppData\Roaming\Skype\Pictures
C:\Users\Tamim\AppData\Roaming\Skype\tamim\voicemail
They can open the main.db file with a 3rd party utility (SkypeLogView / SQLite Database browser).

Skype chat History deleted !

Hi, somedays ago I resetup my windows. Now I am facing a problem that is I cannot find any chat history in my ID. Now I am totally stucked. Please save me. I need that data very badly. Help me please.

I found out how to recover the deleted messages (or at least see them). You need to look for DAT files inside C:\Users\<profilename>\AppData\Roaming\Skype\<skypename>\chatsync\
Just use a file search like FileLocator Lite (or Windows' own search) to look for most recently modified DAT files in this folder's subfolders. Open them in Notepad++ or Notepad2 (don't use crappy Windows Notepad) and search for some existing message you know comes just before or after the deleted messages (when searching for a known message, use only a small alphabetic part of it, including spaces, that is big enough to be unique but not too big to become obscure). From there you can easily work out what the deleted messages were.

I tried opening this file as a DB in Database.NET but it kept asking for a password. I have no idea what the password is, but it probably also means it's not an SQLite DB. For now, we can only work with the file as a text file.

If I install iCloud to my pc, will I be able to get access to the skype chat history stored on the iPad app?

So my computer with itunes broke down 5 weeks ago. I haven't backed up my ipad or synced it with a computer since. I want to download or get access to my skype history, stored on the iPad, from my pc and don't know how to. If I backup via iCloud, will I be able to get access to my skype history from that?
I'm afraid of installing itunes on another computer and connecting my ipad to sync as I don't want it to erase everything during the sync.

Skype 7.0.59.102 chat history only 30 days

With all previous versions of Skype I was allowed to access chat history for each contact or group all the way from the start of the conversation. Now, with Skype 7.0.59.102, it only goes back a month. This is terrible!!
Please, is there a way it can be accessed, I'm just missing it. And if not, please bring it back!

This is not depending on the Skype version to use, but whether you've kept your local Skype chat history database. This is the only way to store chat history beyond 30 days.
If you have installed Skype on a brand new Windows installation only the last 30 days of history will be synchronized from the cloud.

Can't find my chat history

Hi all, I've looked it up and found numerous threads on this issue but still can't figure out my personal problem..
I'm looking to transfer skype chat history; videos, chat, etc, from my grandparents in India, to a drive for safekeeping. My parents use my skype to talk to them a lot and they want me to keep all of their messages and/or videos in a drive. In order to do this, I need to find the chat history..
I've looked through the "C:\Users\<windows_8_username>\AppData\Local\Packages
\Microsoft.SkypeApp\Localstate\<skype_name>" thing I found online. But for my computer, it stops at \appdata\local or even \appdata\roaming. There is no further directory inside those two files (Local/Roaming).
Why is that? I use skype all the time; for family and friends. Why can't I find the file log (main.db).

Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata%\skype and press Enter or the OK button. This will open a window with a Skype folder. Within this folder locate a subfolder with name corresponding to your Skype name. The main.db file is located in this folder.

Skype mobile history

Hi I recently reinstalled Skype mobile on my android phone. I was reviewing a conversation history with a contact that appears to be offline. What puzzles me is the fact that thd history loads for this contact, but for the others who are also offline do not. Is this some glitch?

Easy steps to delete skype chat history off your mobiles.
1. Sign out of skype from your mobile
2. Sign into skype on your computer
3. Go to tools-options- privacy settings
4. Click on clear history
5. Sign out of skype from your computer
6. On your mobile go to settings-applications manager-skype and clear data
7. Sign back on to skype on your mobile and your message history should be deleted

Blocking users from deleting chat history

I am a system admin and our users are suing skype IM. Some users are using the skype IM for their personal use. We want to view all the chat history of all the skype users. So, I want to block the users from deleting the skype chat history.

Any chance anyone from Skype can respond to this?? The lacking control over skype as a system admin is the main reason Skype is lacking adoption in the enterprise. We need a simple chat and video call solution both internally and externally but Skype might be out automatically if there is no way to control the chat history. Primarily we need to stop users from deleting the history, and the ability to retrieve the history remotely.

How can I access a dormant chat history without logging onto Skype which will delete the data?

I am posting this question here because many of you will have more technical knowldege about how this works compared to any other thread. I need to access my own Skype IM convos for legal reasons. I have only just realised that I do not have a complete history of chats from the begining of time. It's extremely frustrating that Skype only keeps 6mo worth of chat since Microsoft took over. This happened without any notification from MS that I can recall and it is a major problem for me now. Plan B: I have a Vista machine that I have not used for ages. If I can access the Skype IM chat history on it that will cover at least some of the period I need to access. My problem is, to view the IM chats I need to go online and log into Skype BUT that will wipe the info I need to see when it updates the history and goes back 6mo. It's a catch 22 situation. The info is there but i just don't know how to see it. As an additional complication, I stopped using the machine because there was a strong reason to believe it had a security breach/Trojan on it that antivirus program's could not detect. So I want to avoid going online with that Vista machine but it is possible. How can I view and extract my Skype IM convos without logging onto Skype itself and losing the data I want access? Obviously I know my passwords, so it's not a spying situation that I need to get around. It's very important that I view these old chats and fast. I have Internet access through other machines at the moment and I am not a techie. Can anyone help? You are my last chance.

Thanks Tamim. I had seen that app but was reluctant to try it. Following your post, I tried it and YES it does work. It is a bit cumbersome and will take a lot of work to sift through the CSV file that has every single chat convo combined into one file and not into separate conversations. There are tens of thousands of lines to search through. I am very grateful that the history is retrievable at all . It's just going to take a long time to sift through the data in an efficient and useable way. Unfortunately, with deadlines looming, I have very little time to do it in. Tamim, or anyone else for that matter, do you know of a way that the information can be viewed as a complete conversation between 2 people only?

Did anyone ever help you? Skype on my Motorola X phone logged me out and my 2 months vital chat history got lost. It is court admissible stuff...
