Recovery of Win 8.1 on HP 15-r151nr

Hi!
I have notebook HP 15-r151nr
My notebook has a pre-installed Windows 8.1 single language OEM
But I re-install Windows 7 on my notebook. GPT (or MBR) was replaced and recovery partition was deleted.
But then I was need Windows 8.1 again. I have installed Win 8.1 from other sources , but I want to have my previous Windows 8.1 single language OEM.
Befor installing Windows 7 I have made 5 recovery disks, but now first disk is destroyed. Following 4 disks are normal.
And I have copies all files from recovery disks on my external HDD.
I try recreate first recovery disk. He contained directories:
/boot
/EFI,
/factoryUpdate ,
/preload ,
/Recovery ,
/sources ,
and following files:
bootmgr, bootmgr.efi , Info.dat , install.swm , install2.swm - install12.
I have made the booting DVD by ADK as:
"F:\SDK_win8\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\amd64\Oscdimg\oscdimg.exe" -n -m –bF:\etfsboot.com D:\new D:\new\DVD1.iso
where -
"D:" is external HDD containing these files and directories
and I placed etfsboot.com to F: .
Then I perfomed recovery by Update and recovery -> Recovery -> Advanced options -> EFI DVD/CDROM
but after reboot message "The selected boot device failed" appeared.
I need either the image of the first disk or in the way of his regeneration.
Please help!
Thank you!

HI @Atmel
Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I understand that when you purchased your notebook it had Windows 8.1 installed.  You created your recovery disk and then installed Window 7.
You now need to reinstall your Windows 8.1 but the first disk of the recovery is damaged but the remaining 4 are good.  You tried to copy an image to the notebook but that was also unsuccessful.
I suggest contacting HP support and advising them of the issue with your recovery disk and inquire about obtaining a recovery kit.
Here is a link on Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8) to aid with that process.

  • System Image Recovery on Win 7 - Spectre XT 13

There is no issue of creating a system image onto my seagate external Freeagent goflex hard disk. However, an issue is encountered during the restoring process in which the USB3.0 port turned out to be unavailable during pre-boot.
The solution I discovered is to plug the hard disk onto the USB2.0 port. I hope this will save someone several hours of trying to figure out where goes wrong.

Yes, that is a known issue that affects several recovery softwares including HP's

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in endless reboot loop

This is a detailed bug report so please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm you've had the same happen to you, I'll be grateful.
I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I even used to work for Toshiba so rest assured I like the machine. But I've got a problem with its recovery software. I just bought a laptop, Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I will occasionally have to field panic calls along the lines of "it's become too slow", "how do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe it's got a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was the automatic recovery, i.e. how to bring the HD back to "as new" state.
So I booted into the machine, answered the questions until I got into the OS proper, and then ran the "make a recovery DVD" program. Double layer DVD verified ok. With the freshly made DVD, I swapped the supplied HD for a spare I had (much smaller: only 40 GB instead of 320) and booted the rescue DVD hoping that it would remake me a clean system on the blank drive.
It did repartition the drive according to its scheme, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for Data including the recovery files. It did install the system in the Windows partition. It then rebooted into the installed Windows 7 to finalize the installation. There, trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until I stopped it.
    Loop:
    * reboot
    * black screen with bright 4-colour windows logo "starting windows"
    * black screen with light blade and "setup is preparing your computer for first use"
    * blue "welcome" white screen with "please wait" and horizontal bar with green blob, saying "Finishing the installation may take several minutes. Please dont interrupt or shutdown the computer!"
    * blue screen saying it's shutting down
    Repeat the above forever.
I have seen it reboot way over 10 times over the course of several hours. And every time it pretends it's the first time it does that. Surely that's not normal!
I tried stopping it with ctrl-alt-del and task manager but the white screen would go on top of even the task manager, making it hard to kill any processes or even inspect what they were. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it switched off. Then when it rebooted it said if I wanted safe mode. I tried that. It went into the routine above and at some point it said it couldn't proceed with the installation if it was in safe mode. So it rebooted into regular mode and then... finished! It finally broke out of the endless loop!
Then it asked me all the usual questions about language, registration etc, as it had done the first time I had turned it on. This seemed good. I finally got back into a newly installed OS and all seemed fine, except I later discovered that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even re-did the procedure on the supplied hard disk instead of my spare one: first I nuked the windows partition, then I did rescue from the HD (with F8), not with the DVD I had made. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboots.
After I stopped it, it sort-of-worked, as above, but now some other programs were missing, notably the Toshiba DVD player.
(*) motivated by: better try this now, with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, than when the computer is away at its owner's home and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a phone line. Been there before.
Now, that specific one (DVD player) I could download from the support page and it installed fine; but what else might be missing or not working that I didn't notice? Clearly the restore process isn't working as it should.
Am I the first or only one to whom this happens? Am I doing anything wrong? Is there anything else I should try?
I need to make sure this restore procedure works flawlessly while I still have the computer in my hands. If it doesn't, there's no chance I'm going to be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie once I am asked to clean up the laptop over the phone a few months from now.
    Thanks in advance
[Update: while looking for the right place where I could post this I found that other people are reporting the same problem. It's definitely a bug in the distributed recovery software for W7-64, not an isolated problem of my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&tstart=0 where user kwarc is describing the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

I am glad to report some unexpected SUCCESS!
I left the computer at what it was doing when I wrote the previous
post. I came back to it an hour later or so (I had stopped counting
the reboots, though occasionally I'd hear that typical chime from the
other room, saying it was doing one more cycle) and I noticed
something slightly different: the white screen with "finishing the
installation may take several minutes" had a blue blob, not a green
blob, in the progress bar, and the blob was rectangular rather than
rounded. Very odd! Something different had happened, like a change of
theme. And a little while after that, the process really finished and
I got to the white screen that asks about what language etc etc, like
when I first turned on the new computer.
    Great!
All I can conclude from this experience:
Even a reinstall that works will DEFINITELY involve many reboots that
seem to be getting nowhere. Apparently, progress is being made, even
though it looks like the process is stuck in a loop of reboots.
It would just be nice if it said something like "Before I finish
restoring, I'm going to have to reboot 26 times, please hang on; now
doing cycle 8 of 26". (Numbers are made up.) It doesn't, but just
    knowing about it is helpful.
Perhaps worth redoing the install once more and making a note of how
long it really takes from beginning to end when it does work.
I still don't know if the process I described in the first post was
really stuck because of some other error or whether it would have
ended eventually. If I wanted to be really sure I could re-restore
everything on that hard disk once more.
I have no idea whether wiping all partitions from the disk before
reinstalling did any good or not: it shouldn't have made a difference
since, as I said, I noticed that the first thing the restore program
did was redo all the partitions itself. On the other hand we have
experimental proof that the restore can work on a HD without any
    partitions.
Thanks again PauPau---the most useful thing you said, for me, was the
data point that for you it had worked. That's what made me try again
and leave the computer on indefinitely through the innumerable
    reboots, just in case.
I'll repost a definitive answer on how long a successful restore
process should take once I get round to redoing it on the supplied 320
    GB HD.

  • Rescue & Recovery vs Win 7 Pro Backup

Anyone have any strong preferences either way?  Tempted to go R&R but in the past I had bug issues and problems restoring.  Win 7 seems simple and from the brief explination menu  it appears you can recover individual files.  T61p win7 pro 64bit backing up to a 2nd HD in bay.
    phil

R&R seemed cool until I actually tried to use it. Backing up on the HDD in my laptop, while useful if a virus should corrupt my OS, seems silly when it's possible to backup on an external device. After all, if my HDD crashes then the backup on the HDD isn't going to help me much, is it? And what about space? I need all the space on my HDD and I don't want to allocate it to a backup.
I have a NAS drive mapped to L: on my machine. For the life of me I can not figure how to make my R&R backup go here. I selected "Network" as the location but the R&R application wants to map the drive itself. It seemed to map it but I have no way to verify as the mapped location appears hidden. Now when I select Network I just get a spinning blue circle for a bit and then nothing.
The R&R app should allow you to select whatever external folder you want (e.g. L:\thinkpad_backup). It doesn't seem to allow this, unless I am missing something. And if I am missing something then Lenovo hasn't made it very clear and easy as I have gone over the choices again and again.

  • I have Win. XP Pro, can't boot windows, no recovery / reimages, Win. repair can't fix, need prompts

I inadvertly used the disk sanitizer on my laptop and now I cannot  boot Windows or anything else.  I do not have any system images, or recovery disks as this PC was given to me  I have used a repair disk from my HP Pavilion Windows 7, which does get me as far as system recovery options.  The system repair cannot fix the problem and sends me to HP recovery manager the only option I am permitted to choose is run computer checkup, when I click on this it asks me to open a command prompt.  Can anyone walk me through what prompts to use?  I have tried and sfc/SCANNOW and it says that I have a scan pending which requires reboot to complete.  I cannot start Windows.  I do have a license for Windows XP pro, but I do not havde the installation disk.  Any help would be great.

Thanks for the replys. After much gnashing of teeth I realised the problem was my keyboard wasn't working in BIOS and eventually remembed I had switched my mouse from the PS/2 slot to a USB port. Switching back solved everything.
I suppose future 'legacy free" PC's will have to install usb drivers in the BIOS.  Thaks again!

  • One Key Recovery under Win 10, G50-70

    hello guys
my laptop is g50-70.I have got all the drivers for windows 10 64 bit

how to make the system image of the win10 if it is not provided???

Mod Comment: Moved post into proper forum. Edited subject to include model/issue.

Hi, I don't think this is the answer the user is looking for. Although the mentioned procedure does in fact create a usable image of Windows, the question remains for One Key Recovery. If used, OKR will revert the machine back to factory install, meaning Windows 8.Can Lenovo clarify if there will be some sort of update to OKR so it will revert back to Windows 10?Or our future options will be:1- use OKR to get back to Windows 8 and manually update to 102- update to 10, make an image and restore Windows 10, bypassing OKR? This post seems to be an alternative in case Lenovo won't provide a solution:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Edge-Yoga-LaVie-Z-Flex/Solved-Fix-Repair-Nova-Button-One-Key-Recovery-after-replacing/m-p/1829369/highlight/true#M26820  Thank you.

I already made my recovery flash drive and would like to get rid of the unnecessary taken disk space. Any sollutions?

    Hi,
This assumes that Windows 7 was the original OS that your notebook came with.
If you created a set of Recovery Discs you can use these to reinstall the original OS - they will also re-create the Recovery Partition on the Hard Drive as well as reinstalling all your original software.  Remember this is a destructive process, so back up any personal files etc that you wish to keep before reinstalling the Operating System.
If you don't have your original Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

  • CX61 Recovery for Win 8.1

Just got my laptop in today, and lo and behold, the SATA HDD is DOA.  I desperately need it for some school work, so I took a known good SATA HDD and popped it in.  My wife has the same model so I burned recovery discs and got them going.  It's on disc 4 and the progress bar is completely full and "time remaining" says Please Wait.  It has been at that point for 45 minutes now.  Should I be concerned?  Is this normal?

Not sure what you are talking about here but if you are trying to create recovery disks you may be too late after performing the update.  If indeed recovery manager is missing, it cannot be download.  See this:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643
Should you be talking about a hard disk image you should be looking at a program like Macrium Reflect Free and perform the image ideally to an external hard drive.

  • Lost my recovery disc win 8.1

I lost my recovery discs. I want to know my windows 8.1 single language activation key. I want to activate my windows..pls help.. hp customer care is not responding to my call

    Hi,
The key is in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:
       http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
When run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. Windows 8 or 8.1 product key is in there.
You can also use the following tool to find out:
https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ Note: Most likely you won't be able to use the key to activate, you have to call Microsoft OR you have to order a new set of Recovery media from HP.

  • Recovery of Win 8.1in 32-GB Flash Drive without losing empty space.

Hi i have a new Hp p001tx Windows 8.1 NB.
I choose a new USB flah drive 32gb for taking a recovery backup in HP recovery Manger Tool.
It prompted only 20 GB of empty space is needed.
But it also said that the remaing 12GB (ie 32gb-20gb =12gb) storage in the new flash dirve will become unsable. Why?
    Question:
    1. Can i do two partition in the same flash drive as 21gb +11gb =32gb and then take backup in the 21gb partion and use the other 11gb for storing personal data using recovery manager tool.
    2. Will this idea work to use the same flash drive for booting from the backup and use the remaing 11GB for storing data.
    3. Tell a way to make two partitions (21gb +11gb) respectively and use it for both purpose.
Kindly sugest a method to utilize the full allowance.

None of your requests are advisable or if done manually will corrupt the Recovery media. The whole 32gb flash drive has to be solely utilised for recovery media alone.
If you're not okay with that, you can make Recovery DVD.

  • How do I solve this win xp recovery / install problem?

    Hello
I have made a backup of the Vista install that comes with the new laptop onto 3 DVDs.
Now I'm trying to launch the Toshiba Product Recovery Media (Win XP Pro) Discs to install Win XP instead.
The Toshiba Product Recovery Media consists of a 1 CD + 1 DVD (for Toshiba Satellite Pro L300)
When I boot up on the CD a Ramdisk OS is installed (great its working!) and then I get a message saying...
"Windows cannot find 'X:BIN\TOSDIALOG.EXE' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." (OK button)
    Maybe X: is the Ramdisk.
When I press okay the message it repeats two more times then the computer reboots. The screen is blank behind the message and nothing else is operable.
When I try to boot up from the DVD nothing happens.
If I start either the CD or DVD up in Vista there is no autoplay or any obvious ways of starting the recovery process.
I must be missing something simple.
    Please can someone help?

One thing I did that could have caused a problem was...
With Vista installed I tried to create another partition. In the process I completely screwed up the C Drive booting up. So I had to use the emergency recovery and return to factory setting. Then I followed the process and reinstalled Vista.
Vista is now installed and running. Then I tried to install the Win XP. I would have thought that with Vista back up and running with the C: drive running effectively that it was back to exactly how it was before.

  • HP Envy dv6 7398ca. win 8 64 bit. During recovery disk 4, get 3f0 error

    Hi,
I have a brand new HP Envy dv6 7398ca.win 8 64 bit.  I had a problem that caused me to do a system refresh. After that, Windows update and MS Office would not update/install. Talked to Tech Support, they wanted me to go thru every service and started task to see if one was corrupt (requires reboots and update and recovery from win Update). Anyway, decided to do a system recovery/system reset. I had recovery disks and files backed up, so thought I should be fine.
During Recovery (from Win 8, recovery manager) when disk 4 was inserted, it gets to 56% and then stops with the 'dest drive not connected' msg. The system hangs and have to power off. Tried a couple times, then went to sys reset.  got to disk 4 again and then 3F0 msg with 'boot device not found, install os on hdd'. did quick check on hdd, all ok. Am running a full check now, but takes 5 hours(geesh, like back in the 80's again).
I can't believe the hdd is bad, because it goes through format, and 4 disks of loading files ok, and keeps stopping on the same spot.
Any ideas, before I finish waiting the 5 hours (1tb drive). Any ideas for after it finishes the test (I'm betting it's okay).
    Thanks so much!

    Hello socalfun64,
    You’re getting an error 3f0.
Here are steps that Big_Dave  wrote that might help with the problem.
The below solution may correct this problem:
Download UEFI Shell x64, rename the file to shellx64.efi, move it to FAT/FAT32-formatted USB-flash. Label the USB flash drive something that you will quickly recognize.
Insert the USB flash and then power up the HP UEFI enabled laptop and tap the ESC key to allow you to display the Start up menu.
    Select Boot device Options (F9)
    Select Boot from EFI file
Select the USB flash drive and hit enter
You should now see Shell.efi. Hit enter.
Ignore all the screen information that scrolls down on the screen
Once in the shell enter bcfg boot dump to see current boot manager entries. Option 00 should be the hard drive or SSD, option 01 the USB drive (UEFI) and option 02 the Internal CD/DVD Rom drive (UEFI)
This posted HP document will give you some ideas on how to remove, reorder and add the entries in the EFI boot manager. Review #3
If you’re not able to correct the problem, you may have to send the laptop in for repair.
Here is a link to a number to call HP and see what options they have to repair the laptop.
Let me know how everything goes
    Have a good day.

    Satellite L855-S5309, Windows 8, 64-bit
Created 2 sets of Windows 8 Recovery Media using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.  First set a year ago, created a new set yesterday.
The laptop will not boot to either set (DVD 1).   The DVD is bootable in another machine.  EUFI is grayed out.
Tried a Windows 8 DVD store bought.  It booted from this DVD.
The big question:  Why won't the Toshiba laptop see its own DVD it created for recovery?
Win 8 Repair DVD - boots from USB drive but won't see DVD files on drive.  Is this the image?
Do I need to order the recovery media?

Hello geraldh74. I understand you're trying recover your notebook after purchasing a new hard drive.
How large is the SSD and the original hard drive?
If you boot into Windows and use Disk Management how many partitions are listed?  Do you mind listing them here?
If you have the recovery discs you really do not have the have the partition but I can understand why you'd want.  I will keep an eye out for your response so that I can assist you in figuring this out once I have more information.
