Recovery options

I need to restore a database from tape backup that was version 10.1 Our development system has version 10.2 on it. Do i have to install version 10.1 for the restore to work correctly or will 10.2 work?

I don't think you have to have the same patchsetOh, really? Well, Maybe in some case it could work...
Furthermore, 10.2 is not a patchset over 10.1, it's a different release.
OP: You can restore from tape, and then upgrade the release 10.2

Yoann.

  • Data Recovery Options?

In the process of transferring from a POP3 Account to IMAP, I deleted a POP3 Account and lost a lot of email's I still need. I've seen some data recovery options such as File Salvage, but I'm wondering if there are any cheaper options out there? Thanks for the help.

What an awful thing to have happen! Especially on such a special and happy day! You have my deepest sympathy.
From what I understand, as long as the data has not been overwritten, you should be able to recover it. I will have to let the explanation of how to do this rest with people more knowledgeable than I am, as I have never had occasion to have to do this. But I have no doubt that they will post the appropriate resources.
I have been told that the only way to destroy a hard drive so that you can't recover the information is with a hammer. That said, it could still be costly. But unless your new backup partially wrote over some of your previous backup, it should be recoverable.
Good luck, and have a happy honeymoon--don't let this spoil it! And the best of everything for your future!

  • I can't accessed system recovery options after the repairing process was interrupted.

although it's not my PC, i'm still concern about it (it's actually a public computer in our library). I actually tried to repair it using the system recovery options of windows 7 with thinkvantage technoliogies  but i interrupt it because maybe someone will caught me and i will be mistakenly be liable. and the result is after i restared it, it restarts over and over again, with BSOD appearing for a split second. i tried to use disable autorestart on system failure feature, and i saw the BSOD. but the real issue is i can't go through the recovery options, only until the part when i'm asked to select a keyboard input method, then the next part is this message: "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click OK to restart the computer." anyway, this is the BSOD says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus disk defragmentation  or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I hope this problem will be solved as much as possible.  thank you in advance. and i also don't know what model of this Lenovo all-in-one PC is. but i think this is 3318F9U, and its i forgot its BIOS version, and i don't know how to access it. and also, i'm not sure if there's a preloaded Superfish in this all-in-one PC, maybe the vulnerability started it. because i recently read an article regarding the Superfish's vulnerability.

    Hello sallay Amir,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you would like to erase your MacBook Pro and install a new copy of OS X, but the Mac does not boot to OS X Recovery when you hold the Command + R keys during startup.
If your Mac came with OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or earlier, I recommend referring to the steps in this article:
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install - Apple Support
For a newer Mac (OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite), try reinstalling OS X by using Internet Recovery, as described in the "OS X Internet Recovery" section on this page:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
    All the best,

  • Will Windows 7 damage rescue & recovery option?

I have installed Windows 7 on my X300 which is running XP. I can boot into XP or Windows 7 but pressing the ThinkVantage button just gives me the option to choose boot device (as F12), BIOS config or normal boot - no recovery option.
As it is a second hand system, I don't know if it worked before I installed Win 7 but I now recall that I had a similar problem on a Lenovo that I installed Linux on. It seems quite possible that installing a new OS with its boot manager could affect the R&R partition.
Have others had the same problem?

    Long time ThinkPad user: 770, 600, T40, X300, now X301 240gb SSD, 8 GB ram (love it! :-)) Windows 7 64 bit.

I do not think it can be done.
If anyone knows how, they might get a ton of kudos!
A good method is to get a external HD, and use Win 7's built in
disk imaging software to back up to external.
You could use a partition on the internal HD, but that is not as disaster proof.
If you have NO intention of getting Vista back in the future, you can
re-partition the HD when installing Win 7.
If you want to have that option, create recovery disks in Vista, and then
install Win 7 in the same C:\ partition as Vista. Don't resize partition!
Rescue button will not work, but you will be able to recover Vista from recovery disks.

  • HP Pavilion - Do I need external Recovery option?

    Hi,
I have just bought a HP Pavilion 15.  Keep getting contractdictory advice.  Some say must have an external Recovery option; others say why, there is no need and it is a lot of hassle to create a set.  Need advice:
    1)  is it really necessary to have an external option when I have the recovery partition (D) on the hard drive?
    2)  If I need an external option (however hard that may be to create), am thinking about buying Panasonic DVD-RAM Disc Rewritable 9.4GB.  Is this appropriate media?  And, how do I work out how many discs I need to buy?
    3) absolute worse case secenario - if I needed to recover & didn't have an external recovery media, what would be my other options?
Unfortunately, know enough knowlegde/experince to worry but not enough to know what to do.  Can anyone help?
    This question was solved.

To the best of my knowledge, HP allows driver downloads regardless of warranty status..  About the only time you will ever have an issue is if you are trying to put an OS on a machine it's not designed for..  IE Win7 on a Win8 machine, etc etc..
Even then, there are always alternatives...
My philosophy has always been to NEVER put anything on a computer that you can't live without..
If Drivers are your concern, don't worry.  With VERY few exceptions, drivers are ALWAYS available..
The hassle of going out into the wild of the Interent to find them is really the only downside...

  • Satellite A135: Difference between Recovery options

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A135, OS: Vista Home.
I am trying to reformat my laptop using the system recovery disk that came with my laptop.
I am given two options when I run the disk:
    1) Restore to factory out-of-box state, and
    2) Erase the hard drive.
What are the differences between the two options?
My goal is to do a total clean up on my HDD to get rid of the malware.

This is a US notebook and therefore Im not quite sure what the exact difference could be but as Im not mistaken the first recovery option set the notebook back to the factory settings.
The other, second option would format only the HDD
If you tried both options please post the results

  • I accidentally screwed up my apple id when trying to change my primary email address. Password recovery options and security questions arent working either to restore

I accidentally screwed up my apple id when trying to change my primary email address. Password recovery options and security questions arent working either to restore. Created a new appleid just to get into forums to ask a question but hesitate to sync itunes and iphone with it as i may lose all purchased music apps etc. can anyone help? i have received no email response frm apple support, it's been over 48 hours

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help

Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help!

    Hi ..
Shift key boots into Safe Mode, not Recovery.
This only works on a Mac running v10.7 Lion or later.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery
If you can't boot into Recovery Mode, help here >   Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

  • Recovery options for U460 notebook?

I recently got myself a U460 notebook.  I didn't even notice it was missing an optical drive - my fault, I missed it in the display unit.
Anyway, in the event of a HDD crash 2-3 years down the road, what kind of recovery options do I have?  Can I:
Boot from a USB connected external CD drive?
Perform One Key recovery even with a new HDD?
    Others?
I hope NOT to bring it back to the SC....

If you haven't burned a Windows 7 System Repair disc, download one by scrolling down to the link Windows 7 System Repair Disc 64-bit here.
Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc
Then try a Startup Repair and a System Restore from the Windows Recovery Environment.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
Let us know how it goes.

  • ThinkPad Edge unable to use System Recovery Options

I am helping a friend with a laptop problem. The HDD has had problems in the past and already been restored once. Now it won't boot and I'm unable to access the f8 boot options in order to use Safe Mode. I was able to boot using Kaspersky, but it doesn't show the whole HDD and files.
I've given up trying to access files and just want to try to get the PC working again. I tried using the System Recovery Options and doing a restore, but after it launches I get a message that says "You must log in in order to access System Recovery Options."
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Good day and welcome to the community.
It may help others provide advice with a bit more information about the system you're working on. TP Edge model, windows version, etc.
    Cheers.

  • Re: Satellite T110-107 will not boot into recovery option screen using f8 key.

I have tried numerous times and can't get the system recovery option by intermittently hitting the *f8 key during startup* like it says in the manual, it just goes straight into Windows. I just installed the latest BIOS but that didn't help either. I have no disks for recovery but I would like to get the f8 issue solved anyway. Everything else works perfectly. Thanks.

    Hi
Maybe you didnt press the F8 in the right manner
You have to press F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up!!!
Press it several times to be 100% sure
If this will not function, create the recovery disk!!! This should be done at first before doing anything with the notebook!!!!
The recovery disk is always important and helpful if something would go wrong with the HDD!!!
After creating the recovery disk use this disk in order to set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase
