  • Recovery Partition won't boot!

    Hello dear forum participants!
I have hp pavilion dv6 laptop, recently I've reinstalled original OS(win7 home 64 bit which comes with the laptop) to win7 home premium.
Now I would like to get back to factory defaults and I'm unable to boot from HP Recovery partition.
When I press F11 at startup it boots ordinary OS, but not the HP recovery software.
How can I get my recovery partition working??
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I just followed following instructions and it worked perfectly. I didn't have to install anything new,
"1.Right-click on "Computer" icon and select manage.
2.This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
3.On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and it will show you all of the partitions.
4.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
5.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot the notebook and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without having to press F11). "
This will work given that you have intact recovery partition, any version of windows 7 (may be vista and xp too) installed. But be mindfull once you mark it as Active Partition it'll automatically boot in recovery partition and you'll have to restore the computer to out of the box state. Otherwise you'll have to use some utility to chagne boot loader.

  • Hp recovery partition failed

I have a hp probook 4510s with widows 7 premium and recently i attempted to restore my computer to factory settings but when i load the boot menu after pushing f11 or f8 it loads files then ask me to chose my country then ask if I'm sure i want to reinstall windows i say yes then it ask if i have a disc i say no then a error message pops up saying
    the data is invalid
    recovery partition index==boot partition
i have use my recovery partition in the past so I don't know what's wrong. this is how my partitions are set up.
if it helps, before i learn that you can't have no more than 4 primay partitions on windows 7  at the time i didn't know and made a fith one which turn all my partitions into dynamic Partitions but i later delete one and use a software that converts them back to primary with ot affecting the data on it. everything in the partitions are still their as far as i know. please i just want my recovery Partition working again!

Your Recovery partition has no drive letter (it should be D), is a Logical drive (should be a Primary) and is part of an Extended partition. If you can use something to correct all of that it may work again.

  • Satellite L745D-S4214 Does not boot; HDD recovery partition not working

I tried to apply the recent windows 7 updates and my laptop no longer boots.  I tried to press F12 and select the HDD Recovery partition, but it does not boot regardless.  There is a message that it does not communicate to a specific device.  I believe the address called out was 0xc0000e9, but I am going by memory.  I never created a recovery CD because I thought I was covered by the HDD partitions.  This was purchased on 10/26/2012, so it should still be under warranty.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hi I'm going to assume that your recovery works like mine and that the recovery partition is still good and not corrupted.
Shut down your PC. Press F12 and select HDD recovery. Click enter. This should start the recovery from the hidden recovery partition.
PS I would advise you to make the recovery discs or USB recovery Try this first.
    Perform a power cycle
Even when your laptop is off and unplugged, residual power can still be held in some components. While this is normal, clearing it can help with boot problems. Perform these steps to complete what’s called a power cycle.
Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.
Remove the battery (if the model has a removable battery).
Unplug all wires or peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories.
Hold down the power button for thirty seconds.
    Reattach the battery.
Connect the AC adaptor to the power socket that was confirmed to be working in the first step.
Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to your computer.
    Try starting the computer.
If your laptop starts normally now, you're done!

  • Windows 8.1 update added a recovery partition now the recovery function won't work.

After the latest 8.1 update, an extra recovery partition as added to the C: drive.  A few other things got messed up so i decided to reset to factory original.  To my surprise the HP Recovery Tools no longer work.  If I hit F11 I get a 0xC0000225 error where the device isn't avaialble.  I can see the recovery partition with the WINRE partition but I think the computer doesn't know where the partition is.  I'm on an DV6-7211 with Windows 8.1 update.  Anyway to tell the F11 function where the WINRE drive is?  Since HP didn't seem fit to give me recovery media in my box I have no way to revert back to factory original.  SInce there is a liscense for Windows 8 included, I don't feel like spending the money to buy a new operting system.  Recovery media is way too expesive.

You might try making a Recovery set with the software included on your machine-though it may not work now either. Creating Recovery Media >> Windows 8

  • Recovery Partition Not Working

    Dear all,
I have a Elitebook 8560w with a recovery partition. Last year, I installed a SSD drive in the 2nd slot and used a third-party program (Aoemei IIRC) to create new partitions (somehow, Samsung Magician malfunctioned on the first try). Afterwards, Samsung did work (do not ask me how) and the new partitions were created.
This resulted in the following partitions.
SSD Drive (C: ) containing my documents and such.
    HP_Recovery (D: ) containing the recovery.
    HP_Tools (E: ) containing Tools I guess.
SYSTEM (F: ) containing system files.
and 2 more SSD partitions for personal use.
and my HDD (H: ) with all kinds of crap.
Now I want to recover my drive again like every year but when I open up the Recovery Manager it tries to search in X: for the Recovery Manager.exe file and can't find this (it gives an error about Runtime something) and shuts down the PC afterwards.
How can I make the recovery working again? Or, another way to format my PC. The PC came with a pre-installed version of Windows 7.
Kind regards and thanks in advance,
    Robert

You will have to delete the extra partition/partitions and convert the hard drive back to Basic.

  • Recovery partition on T410 not working

Couldn't think of a good way to phrase that subject line. Anyways, I was trying to create 'restore' disks from the recovery partition. Seemed easy enough--I clicked it and it prompted me asking if I wanted to go ahead.. I said yes, and it started copying files.
Problem is it froze while getting the files ready to burn, so now I have TWO extra partitions on my drive: Q, the original recovery partition and "SYSTEM_DRV (S" which has four file folders on it. If I click on the original "LENOVO_RECOVERY" partiition, nothing happens and it appear to be empty...
Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
    Solved!

    Hi cwarner!
You can delete those partitions but make sure you know what you're getting into, because they have a purpose:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70829
If you want to "fix" your immediate problem i.e. recovery disk creation failed, use your warranty and call Lenovo support, tell them exactly what happened, and they will most likely send you a set of recovery disks.

  • How to clone recovery partition to SSD so F11 works with new SSD?

I received my new Envy 15 Laptop today. It has a 1Tb 5400rpm hard drive but I want to replace with SSD. I tried cloning it to a 300Gb SSD drive. I used "EaseUS Todo Backup Free".
The laptop boots up to Windows 8.1 successfully on the new cloned SSD , but when I press F11 key during bootup to load the recovery partition it errors out. If I swap back to the 1TB 5400rpm original drive, the F11 key bootup recovery works.
How do I clone the recovery partion from the 1TB HDD to the 300gb SSD ?

  • Recovery partition isnt working

    hello everyone
i have a toshiba satellite l505d-s5983 laptop. i have been having problems with this laptop for the past 2 weeks and it hasnt stopped. i was able to reset my laptop and i even got rid of the error message i used to have before the windows boot screen. it worked fine for about 3 days. it then made a strange sound and froze so i restarted. it booted up fine but then it became very slow. i rebooted and it worked fine. i got some updates and installed them. when it rebooted it said preparing to configure windows but it still wasnt done a few hours later. then screen went black and nothing would bring it back up. i recovered the laptop and a few hours later i got the error that the recovery partition id wasnt found. the hard drive has no os installed on it and i dont know what to do. any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the hard drive is failing.
To test the hard drive determine what brand of hard drive you have.  You can check the Bios/Setup to find out, look in device manager, or run SIW or Belarc Advisor.  Go to that manufacturer's support site and download their Self Booting Diagnostic CD ISO image, create the CD using the Burn From Image option (see http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm for more information on doing this), then boot to it and run the most exhaustive tests available.  If you have a Toshiba drive you will need to use the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test as Toshiba doesn't supply their own.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Q190 Recovery Partition Not Working

    Hi,
When I first got my Q190 I installed Windows 7. When installing it asked for drivers which I installed using the recovery partition already installed on the machine. I now want to re-install Windows 7, but the issue is that the recovery partition doesn't seem to be working and I cannot gain access to it.
Does anybody know of a way to re-enable/re-install the partition?
(You should know that installed at the moment is Linux Ubuntu, which installed fine without the need for extra drivers)
    Thank you
    - Luke

    hi DEADLYshroom93,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you have a preloaded Windows 7 OS and you didn't create a recovery disc using this method then you will need to check first if the recovery partition is still intact under Ubuntu's Disk Manager.
If the Recovery Partition is still intact, use UltimateBootCD or Hiren's Boot CD to force boot from the recovery partition
If the Recovery Partition is still intact but is corrupted / not bootable, you will need to:
    1. Check the unit for the Windows 7 sticker (product key)
    2. Download and burn a bootable Windows 7 ISO on this website (if you have a preloaded Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit, you will need to download the same for the unit to be activated via SLIC/SLP - see this guide)
    3. Use the product key that you obtained from Step 1 if necessary.
    Hope this helps

  • F11 Not Working to Recover OS from Recovery Partition

    Hi,
I want to reinstall Windows OS from my recovery partition and not able to do so via F11 button from the boot screen because after pressing F11 continiously, the window does not take me the recovery options and instead take me normally to windows logon screen (also get beeps sounds while I press F11 button continously).
I have tried all following methods earlier:
    1) Tried to make partinoed disk to primary from Disk Management (for which the options is not coming when I right click on the partitoned disk.)
    2) Don't able to make bootable disc (burn IOS) as my CD/DVD writer is not working.
    3) Dont' have inbuit software of recovery manager installed (can i do so now if I could recover the windows by this method), can you advise if it can be installed and can work for me.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
If you have a Windows 7 ISO file, another option you could try would be to create a bootable USB Flash drive and install from this.
If you need a utility to create a bootable Flash Drive from the Image file, try the free application below.

I tried to make the recovery partition active from disk managment but no option to make it active ( just help option )
I tried diskpart commands to make it active but msg shows that
The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk
The active command csn only be used on fixed MBR disk
could you please help me to recover my os

Making changes to the factory disk partitioning scheme results in what you are experiencing. That is unfortunately what happens when you don't know how a disk is setup before making changes. From your rpost it would seem that you didn't make a recovery image just in case everything went wrong as it did. I always keep an image around just for that reason. I generally use Paragon Hard disk manager for that purpose. Use the usb recovery flashdrive that you should have created by now to perform a factory image recovery. The original disk partitioning format was GPT, not MBR.  The reason you can't boot is that what you did broke the BCD store. You may be able to repair it with EasyBCD, depending on how much experience you actually have with windows operating systems.  Disclaimer:Paragon Software does provide me with NFR copies of their software for my use to review.
