Recovery/Restore while installing 2.1
There seems to be a few posts on this and I must admit it is very frustrating. I installed iTunes 8 then connected my iPhone. My PC did not crash and I thought I was safe. iTunes went to install 2.1 on my phone and came up with an error. It then came up with a prompt that my phone was in recovery and it would need to be restored. Trying to restore constantly came up with an 'unknown error' Rebooted the PC and still the same. Shut down and left it overnight and thought I would try one more time. This time it restored and installed everything fine. Dont know why or how but at least it's back up. Keep persisting... and hopefully Apple will fix soon.
Must be an isolated case because I just updated my iPhone to 2.1 while running VMWare Fusion 2 (beta) running XP and experienced no problems (upgrade experience was excellent!).

Recovery mode while installing iphone OS 3.0 msg 2006
While upgrading and installing the 3.0 update tonight before heading off for the weekend, the iPhone entered recovery mode. While trying to recover on my iMac, I kept getting error 2006.
I had to take the family to the 'rents this weekend and am trying to restore off of my brother's macbook. how can I get all my data back onto the iPhone?I resolved my own question. For whomever encounters this trouble in the future:
1) uninstall whatever version of iTunes you are currently running and install an older version...any older version
2) download the last WORKING version of iPhone OS from someone other than Apple (because the attempts to download it from them will fail every time)
3) copy (not move or cut and paste) the downloaded OS to iTunes and also into the "Automatically Load into iTunes" folder
4) choose to Restore your iPhone and it will restore to the OS you just downloaded. You'll lose all your important stuff that iTunes doesn't like to backup, but your iPhone will work once again.
Dear Apple: how about uncontrol-freaking the iPhone so we can actually use it as an external hard drive and be able to properly back it up and restore it without being relegated to the less than tender ministrations of your MP3 loader (READ: iTunes), which is not geared for this type of work, even in the tiniest confines of your imagination. -
Last night my iphone did an automatic upgrade and when I got up this morning all that was there was the picture of the usb cord and itunes. When I plugged my phone into my computer and open itunes I got this message: iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.
I spent literally all day trying to figure out what to do and finally sucked it up and pushed the restore button in itunes. I'm not getting this message: The iPhone could not be restored. The device isn't eligible for the requested build.
What the heck do I need to do in order to have a functioning phone again?!Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.

My os x mavericks got crashed accidentely while installing the windows 8 and I am trying to reinstall using recovery console, but its take very long time and forcing me to download OS X mountain lion from internet, is there any where can I get offline download of OS file where I can install directely OS X Mavericks.
Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed. -

i have downloaded OS X Yosemite using recovery from boot but while installing error occuring showing unable to extract essential.pkg so can't install. problem is i have already formatted my drive and dont have any os right now. only the downloaded new os x yosemite in the os x base system. please help
Please try again after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
Step 1
Reset your computer’s PRAM.
Step 2
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
Step 3
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. One backup is not enough to be safe. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with Disk Utility. Preferably both.
Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all data on the startup volume, so you had be better be sure of the backups.
Step 4
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider to have the machine tested. -
Hi my iphone 5 is bricked in recovery mode while updating from ios 7 to 7.0.4 and every time when i try to restore 'Unknoown error 12' pops up each time.iphone was not jailbroken. please help
From the article that your statement was posted from:
Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020. -
I have a iphone 4 and while installing a program it froze how do i restore from a backup
i have a iphone 4 and while installing a program it froze now itunes says it can not read the info on my iphone how do i restore from a back up i made this morning
First, prior to connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and disable automatic syncing (iTunes>Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"). Now connect your phone, when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar right-click on its name and choose Restore from Backup. When done, you can go back and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefer this.

Need help getting iPhone 4s unstuck. It froze while installing update. Screen shows iTunes logo and USB plug.
If your phone is in recovery mode (You see the iTunes graphic on the phone), you MUST connect the device to a computer and restore the operating system. There is no supported way to get around it. The device had a problem installing the update and it crashed. Sorry.

Hard disk error while installing Yosemite
Hi all,
While installing Yosemite, my Macbook 17 in, I got an error after the reboot of the computer. The screen shows "Installing on "Macintosh HD", and the remaining time ..... and then, I get the message saying, "OS X cannot be installed on your computer. File system verify or repair failed. Quit the installer or restart your computer and try again."
I have been restarting a couple of times, and I get the same message every time. I cannot go back to my previous installation of Mavericks. While holding the option button and rebooting, I am presented with only two options .. OS X Installer and the recovery disk. Where did the Mavericks install on the Macintosh HDD disappear?
Choosing the first option (OS X Installer) does not boot into the OS, takes me back to the same routine thatI described above and gives me the error that I talked about. Choosing the latter gives me the Disk utility. I verified the disk's permissions, and the utility found some errors that it was able to fix. I proceeded to verify the disk, which informed me that the hard disk needs to be repaired. When I clicked on repair disk, the repairing went on for some time and it gave me an error message saying, "Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk and restore your backed up files."
What are my options now? How do I retrieve the data that I have on the HDD?
My hard disk was not giving me any problems all these days while I had Mavericks OS installation on the laptop. It is not clunking now.... It seems to be fine. Do you think, there is some problem with the hardware inside the HDD? Or is some data on the HDD corrupt which caused it to not to be repaired?
Appreciate your help.

System recovery: how to install what I need only?
Recently I had to restore the system from hidden recovery partition, and of course, I got a lot of garbage which I don't need (fingerprint and face recognition for example). Is there a way to instal a "clear system"? I mean a Windows and drivers only.

The easiest way is to recover using the recovery partition or recovery media then remove the things you don't want or need. If you take off something needed to run properly you can use the system restore feature in Windows or fully recover again until you get the laptop as clean as you want it.
If you want to do a clean install of Windows 7 make sure you can read the Microsoft number on the tag from the bottom of the laptop, you will have to use the same version as the one listed. Your spec sheet shows Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit Spk 1. Use others if you have a valid key and disc to do so.
INSTRUCTIONS:
First - Burn recovery media before you make any changes! -you may want or need to go back later.
Insert your windows 7 disc and select custom install, your partitions should show up - click on each one and below you will see advanced drive options, click that and you will have options to format - format each one, then delete each one. You will be left with one raw partition, select to install and windows will do the rest while installing the operating system.
Install drivers - Drivers will have to installed one at a time and can be found on your support page, select Windows 7 64 bit.
Installation order is important:
Install chipset driver then video driver before other drivers. Then install Toshiba Value added package before other applications.
