Recovery restores old system version

I have a new laptop and want to use Setup Assistent to migrate from my old, However, here's the issue:
- Old laptop has latest Mavericks, 10.9.5
- New one came with 10.9.4
So Setup Assistent refuses to work since it needs the new one to be updated to 10.9.5, However, if I continue with the setup and then upgrades to 10.9.5, I'll only be able to run Migration Assistent which is not as good (being a developer I have lots of odds and ends setup, like web server config, user accounts settings, etc, that I want to migrate smoothly).
No worries, I thought, and booted into Recovery partition instead, erased the standard partition, and then selected to install Mavericks fresh -> Mavericks was downloaded over the internet. But here's the strange thing: The downloaded version is also 10.9.4. I tried it again, making really sure the standard default partition was completely erased, but same result.
So it seems to me as if there is something wrong here with the version served by Apple; as far as I know, you should always get the latest system version when installing a system using internet download.
Any ideas?
Right now I'm forcing Internet recovery mode, i.e. ignoring the recovery partition (which of course has version 10.9.4) and downloading the recovery system over internet as well. I'll then erase the whole drive, including recovery partition, and see if that would trig receiving 10.9.5 at once, instead of 10.9.4, but I suspect it won't help.

Setup Assistant – How to re-run
This should allow you to update 10.9.4 to 10.9.5 and then use it.

I USE TIME MACHINE TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I HAD A GENOUS BAR GUY TELL ME THAT IF I HAD MY HARD DRIVE BACKED UP WITH TIME MACHINE AND KNEW OF A SAVED DATE PRIOR TO INSTALLING SNOW LEOPARD THAT I COULD PROBABLY RESTORE MY COMPUTER BACK AND SHOULD RUN AS IT DID BEFORE.
HE ALSO SAID THAT "IF" THAT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM THEN I WOULD HAVE TO REFORMAT THE HARD DRIVE AND THEN RELOAD EVERYTHING.

  • Help needed - Can't access OneKey Recovery restoration option after system reboot,

    Hi,
I run OneKey Recovery, after I choose "recovery", and system reboot.....system automatically log in Windows 7 again, rather than access OneKey Recovery restoration option.
I am using G570 and  OneKey Recovery version is 7. this issue never happened before, it always reboot to OneKey Recovery restoration before....please help. Thanks

You shouldn't need Command + R since the Option key will present you with the Recovery boot volume. Seems something is amiss there, I'm willing to bet you may have been using a wireless keyboard.

When i try to restore my Back up using Itunes this is the message i get - "Unable to restore backup as the software is old - Please setup as a new device and then try to restore your backup" - Please advise. If i do so are there any chances of loosing my data. At this point in time i would be happy if i could just retreive my contacts list. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nope - you cannot restore a backup from a newer iOS version on to a device running an older iOS version.  The reverse works, but in your case to use your backup, you must update to iOS 7.0.3 - no other option if you want to use that backup.

Nope, you can install it on your new computer with no issues. The disc contains both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

    HI Sapguru's,
Our req: Build New CRM system with all latest version of software & 64 bit hardware. Details mentioned below.
    Old System:
    CRM 4.0 ABAP System
    win 2003
    Oracle 9i
    non-unicode
    32 bit hardware
New System( which i want to build):
    CRM 5.2 (rampup version) ABAP+JAVA
    win 2003
    Oracle 10g
    Unicode
    64 bit hardware
Above mentioned is an new requirement for us.
    Our Plan:
    1. Old system -Conversion from non-unicode to Unicode system
    2. Old system - System copy export method for create exports
    3. Build New system with new unicode version(5.2) with Old system exports
    Questions to Sapguru's:
    1. Our plan will work or not?
    a. If Yes - give me the guidelines ,Notes ,documentation paths
    b. If No - Please provide your opinions/advices
    2. 32 bit exports will work on 64 bit hardware SAP system?
    Thanks Advance.

    Hello Markus,
    Thanks for your quick response!!!!
I understood - what you have mentioned for my question but i have  one clarification on your answer and one new questions to you.
    Clarification:
My oldsystem is non-unicode system. As you said i will do system copy export method on old system(non-unicode) then i will use that  exports(non-unicode) to build new system.
    Here my clarification is:
Will that exports(non-unicode) work while installing new system with unicode? or Will it give any problem?
    Question:
    1. will old system with oracle 9i exports work on new system with oracle 10g?
    Thanks Advance,

  • After formatting my HD and eventually restore my system from a backup on Time Capsule, will I still have access to my old backups as normally used to do via Time Machine?

I have a Time Capsule (4th Gen) and my backups on it, I need to completely erase my hard drive. My question is: after formatting my MacBook HD and eventually restore my system (OS X 10.6.8) from a backup on Time Capsule, will I still have access to my old* backups as normally used to do via Time Machine?
*(-and to the newer backups- if I had not restored my system from the last backup).
    THANKS

That's a good question. Technically, Time Machine should make a new backup but not erase any old backups. But if there isn't sufficient space on the backup drive, then I'm not sure if Time Machine will simply warn you or just go ahead and remove old backups to make room for the new ones.
In any case, the new backup should have a different backup folder on the backup drive. That's my understanding. You can learn more at pondini.org.

    Hi,
It seems this assembly ''System.Web.Mvc' is missing when you deploy your application to azure, I suggest you check this assembly whether it exist, if not, please right click this assembly and set the property 'Copy Local' as True, then deploy again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Clean reinstall, restore from TM without old system folder. How?

My Macbook has been having some issues so, I would like to erase my hard drive and do a clean reinstall of OS 10.5. My files are all backed up to Time Machine via an external La Cie hard drive. What would be the best way of restoring my application and folders without the old system file?

Are you sure the problem is with your installation of OSX? Erasing everything is rarely required on OSX, and rarely accomplishes anything good.
It's usually best to address the problems directly. I'd recommend starting here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/performance.html
Have you tried downloading and installing the "combo" update. That's the cleverly-named combination of all the updates to Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.
But if you really want to, do an +Archive and Install+ or +Erase and Install+ of Leopard, then use +Setup Assistant+ to transfer everything else from your backups. See #19 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • How can I restores old version of keynote?

I have uploaded my keynote, but I want return at my old application version. How I can do it.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you update Keynote to the most recent version, the old Keynote version is kept in Applications folder. Open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and open the Keynote app with the old icon.
You will need to export the documents created with the new Keynote version. Open them and go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export to > Keynote '09.
Respecting to the new Keynote version, you can delete it or keep it and wait for a Keynote update. I would recommend you to leave it, or the Mac App Store will ask you to update Keynote every time you open it with the update icon

  • Help: Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware

I want to recover a complete image of a Windows 7 operating system I have backed up to my other server. But I am getting the error "Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware. The System Image was created by a computer using BIOS and this computer is using EFI"
The image was definitely taken from this machine - the firmware has not changed!
What do I need to do to restore the image?
    Background Story ..
I bought a new HP 255 laptop per-installed with Windows 7 without Operating Systems instal disks (I will NEVER be stupid enough to do that again!).
I took a complete image of the systems, as suggested so that I was well backed up.
However, my machine corrupted its operating systems with a few weeks. The boot recovery CD did not work (would not boot). So in desperation, and because time was short I went out and bought another, legitimate copy of Windows 7 DVD with a license key (So now I have 2, legitimate copies of the operating system!).
I installed the new copy of Windows 7 - but it was dreadful, because many drivers were missing. Mostly the missing drivers were not available on the HP support site for this machine. ALso, boot up was increadibly slow compared to the original OS installation.
So I created a new boot recovery disk from the new version of Windows, and tried to restore using that. New boot disk loads ok, I can find the old image on my network (after loading a few network drivers). But I won't instal the image - giving the above error message.
I tried deleting the EFI partition from the disk (using GPARTED to reformat that partition). That killed the Windows 7 on the machine - but still gives the same error message when I try to re-image the machine.
I have tried going into the BIOS settings .. HP 255 has a "Legacy Mode" - which I have enabled, but this makes no difference at all!
I think that the kind of solutions I am looking for might be:
    1. There is a clever way of disabling EFI on my 255 so that it looks like a legacy BIOS machine, or
    2. This EFI this is wired into my new boot recovery disk - and there is a way of creating a boot recovery disk that does not use EFI
This has taken me about 2 weeks so far, please help with any suggestions!

    Erico,
I suspect that "MSDOS" is what the Gparted tool calls "MBR" for a partition table, as explained here:

I think that you are suggesting I give up on trying to recover the image I have stored on my server and just to instal Windows 7 from my new copy. There are two problems with this.
    1. After having systematically downloaded all of the drivers from the HP 255 notebook support page, I am still seeing missing drivers listed. Install the AMD graphics softpaq driver first. It also contains the chipset drivers.
    2. The machine is taking a hugely long time to boot up, and seems much slower with this version. Maybe that is a product of using "EFI" rather than "bios" - I don't know.
My assumption is that HP had some special set-up option with their version of Windows which makes the machine more performant. It does not seem to be a coincidence that the image they deliver the machine with is not quite compatible with a 'normal' Windows 7 instal.
So my original question stands: How do I recover the image that I saved away (as per instructed) when I first bough the machine?
You still have not said what you used to create the system image. What is the "image" file's extension?
You are mistaken in your comparison. MSDOS is an operating sytem MBR is a partitioning scheme.  that is comparing apples to oranges.
The article is making an oblique reference in that using GPARTED is more or less equated to using the diskpart utility at the command line. Everything done at the comand line is essentially  done by use of MSDOS commands. GPARTED does the same thing with LINUX commands via a graphical interface so you don't have to type in the commands in a  Linux console.
Do you mean making a backup? a backup is not a clone which can be reproduced on different hardware. The SSD disk replacement does make the hardware differ from the original configuration.
Follow the instaructions on the following tutorial to make your disk a GPT type before installing.

  • I can't restore my system to its factory condition.

    hello all
i have Pavilion DV6 laptop, my HardDisk is dmaged and i can't boot anymore (because of the physical BadSectors) , so ibought a new HardDisk ( 1TB )
when i plug my old hard disk into another PC , i can see the 3 partion's
    1 : C:\[system]
    2 : D:\ [Recovery]
    3 : E:\ [HP TOOLS]
i can fully browse them , so i just copied all the files in the partion D:\ ( which contains the Recovery Files) to my new Hard Disk
( i made a new partion with enough free space for the recovery files )
i done that by showing the hidden files and the system hidden files and then copy , the original size of the Recovery files are the same with the new one (near 19 GB) so i just installed a new Windows 7 (32bit) in my New HardDisk (the old system was windows 7 64bit but i have windows 7 32bit CD Available so thats why)
and i also downloaded and installed HP Recovery manager to restore my laptop to its factory condition, but when i run the recovery manager,i got an error message(HardDisk.dll is missing) i downloaded that .dll file , next time i got another error (PRRC.dll is missing) i downloaded that file too , finally when i ran the Recovery manager from my Desktop i got a Turkish message ! , while my system language is arabic
    see here : http://imgur.com/WzrMDD2
and when i reboot and Press F11 To start the Recovery manager, it starts normally but i can't click on the system restore ! , i also can't reset my laptop to its factory condition, the buttons are disabled see here : http://imgur.com/7JYwO8B i can only click on Run Computer checkup and Show Contact info
should i install a 64 bit system and try the Previous step ? , or is there any missing files that i should copy into the D or C ?
please guys help me to restore my system , the old HardDisk is Dmaged and not bootable anymore so i don't want it

Hello MohammedFawzi.  I understand you're trying to recover your notebook to factory conditions.
If you're unable to perform the recovery the normal way I suggest ordering a set of Recovery Discs directly from HP.  This will not only reinstall the operating system but will also recreate the partitions (including Recovery), install drivers, and most of the software.
To order the discs you'll need to contact HP Support in your region.  You can visit HP Support Worldwide to locate your region's contact information.
I hope this is helpful.  Have an amazing week!
