A Recovery set does NOT include your photos, files, etc. It is simply a copy of the files in your recovery partition that can be used to reinstall Windows & software/drivers that came originally on the laptop. It returns the laptop to out-of-box status.
Though photos, files can be backed up using the method suggested above by AntonyG1 it is not a very elegant backup strategy and usually the files are difficult- sometimes impossible- to restore.
To do a more efficient backup I suggest you look into process of backing up personal files. There are third party apps that do this some free. Windows 8.1 does have a builtin backup app for personal files which is rather misleading in tiltle though. It is File History.

  • Creating a Recovery Set Utility Hangs. Expect better from HP please!!

Hello.  I need help please in creating a recovery set for my hp envy dv7 laptop.  The issue I'm having with the software is that it doesn't seem to recognize the USB flash drive that I purchased especially for the recovery set.  It's a 32gb capacity so within the limits of the reccomendation and works fine with other programs.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.  This laptop has been crashing recently and I would feel more at ease knowing I had some kind of help to fall back on.
    Thanks in advance guys!!

I checked the instructions here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01867124&lc=en&cc=ca&dlc=en#N1014
    It warns of two things
    1) Use a storage device that is larger than the size of the source files, but not larger than 32GB.  ( which the one you are using meets this)
    2) Also, USB flash drives that are branded with the Windows 8 compatible logo do not work.  (maybe this is the problem?)
    One could also use DVD's

  • Possible to copy recovery set image to HD for storage?

I’m about to create a recovery set for my new Spectre ultrabook on a flash drive.  I’d like to then copy the recovery image to a drive on another PC so I can free up the flash drive for other use.  Is this doable?  I.e., if I need to restore, will I be able to copy the image back to the flash drive and have it work?  Are any special tricks involved?

    Hi,
Not that simple, copy won't work. By the way, the Flash drive for Recovery is write protected.

  • Time Machine: "Unable to copy the recovery set"

I am using OSX 10.7.5 and attempting to set up Time Machine to back up to an external 1TB WD My Passport for Mac drive. I've worked through a couple of issues during setup, but I'm still seeing some odd logging in the Console and I'm not sure it's truly working.
On initial attempts to backup, I received several of the following errors, and the backup ultimately failed:

Several were related to files associated with GarageBand, which I don't use, so I excluded them from backup via Time Machine Preferences.  I still received a few (as above), but ultimately I see "Backup Completed Successfully".  However, I still have an error message saying "Unable to copy the recovery set", so I'm wondering if the backup was not actually successful.

I've erased the drive and ensured the partition format matches my main drive.  I'm not sure if this is indicative of anything, but if the laptop is on battery power when Time Machine is scheduled to execute, I get 2 messages in the Console - one with my Mac name, the other with unknown.  However, when Time Machine fully executes, all messages come from unknown.

I've been through the steps at pondini.org and searched the existing discussion boards but haven't found anything that matches this particular scenario.  Will be very appreciative of any tips to resolve.
    Thanks in advance,

Switching off the iPhoto screen saver and trashing its plist file stopped the directory corruption issue. Even so, backups would not work.
Thinking it might be a WD issue, I went to the Western Digital support site and found a firmware update (designed to eliminate hardware ID conflicts when running two WD external HDs) and a newer "drive manager" (formerly called button manager). Installing the firmware update on my backup destination and the drive manager software seems to have eliminated the problem. I've been backing up over the hub successfully for almost 24 hours. Cross your fingers.

    OK. That is good.
It means that you can actually use the recovery manager, when required, by pressing the power button and then tapping the F11 key.
    You are very welcome.

  • Create a Recovery Set?

Still have the message 'Create a Recovery Set' under Updates & Tuneups.  My PC seems to be working OK.  Is it necessary to create a recovery set as the techs where I bought the Notebook said "no need as it's built in"?
Have a Pavilion Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Product No. F6C64PA#ABG.
Not sure what to do, if IT IS necessary am I best to use DVD-RW or stick?  Will it take up much disc space if any?
Sorry, am a newby with all this.

It would be very wise to create a usb recovery flash drive.
It is  the copy of the OS and drivers that you paid for and the best method to recover the operating system to a new hard disk if the original one fails.
The techs at the place where you bought it gave you poor advice.
I highly recommend that you go with the usb recovery media. Sandisk flash drives don't work. Don't use flash drives with the Windows 8 logo on them.
Follow the instructions on the following HP web document to create a recovery image.

  • T60P - Trying to use Recovery Set

I have a T60P with a Product Type of 2007.  I bought this off eBay and it does not have a HDD recovery partition.  So I had called Lenovo TS and ordered a $50 recovery cd set.  There are 4 discs in the set that are labelled "1" "2" "Drivers and Apps" and "Supplemental".  I start/boot the Recovery from Disc 1 with the abbreviated image of Windows as instructions indicate.  Right from the get-go, there is a conflict between the screen shows and the labels on the discs.  After entering the language and passing the EULA, the screen prompt says "If you have a set of OS Recovery Disks, pls insert Disk 1 and press y otherwise press No".  At this point, I have Disc 1 in the drive so pressing Yes gets me an error stating, "This is not the correct disk.  Remove the disk and press OK".  Sidebar:  I believe this is calling for a recovery set that the user would have made at the start.  I did not make a set thinking that the recovery partition would be present.  And, as I said, it's not.
So, next the prompt comes back saying, ""If you have a set of OS Recovery Disks, pls insert Disk 1 and press Yes otherwise press No"  Press No and now I'm faced with a prompt box saying, "Insert Product Recovery Disk 1 and press OK"  Well, disc 1 is still in there so I press OK and an error appears, "This is not the correct disk.  Remove the disk and press OK".  So I deduce that it actually is looking for what I call disc 2 which is labelled " "Operating System Recovery Disc". Replace disc 1 with disc 2 and if I say "OK" I get an error saying, "This is not the correct disk.  Remove the disk and press OK"
I gave the TS rep on the phone all the info on the laptop, serial nos, Product Codes, everything I could find.
What would be my next step?  Am I following the correct sequence of uninserting and inserting discs?  Is there anything someone sees I'm doing wrong?

    Hello,
I don't have a T60p myself, but have you tried cycling through all of the CDs you were sent?

  • Recovery setting in CS6?

I'm testing out Photoshop CS6 to see if there's much a difference between CS5, and i'm noticing that there's no Recovery mode in Camera RAW for my file, they seemed to have changed Camera RAW a lot. Is there no Recovery setting anymore? I have been using this since CameraRAW essentials, which Adobe ended up purchasing so i had to use Camera RAW.

Hello, in the new 2012 process version, recovery is not needed anymore.
You could get it back if you change the process version to 2010, in the beforelast tab of ACR. (but learning about the new process is better!

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
You may not be selecting the correct media location in the recovery manager or the USB stick may be to small. You can also burn DVD+R instead. Make sure they are high quality and major name brand.

  • Faulty hard drives and recovery sets

Regarding having a faulty hard drive (no recovery partition), if you and a friend have the same computer model you could buy a new hard drive (maybe 120GB) and clone the good one from one computer to use in the one that had a bad hard drive then make a recovery set from the clone as well as the original, I did this and it's worked.
I have two HP HDX9000 laptops of which one is slightly cosmetically damaged and its original hard drive died so Windows Vista was put on an unpartitioned 500GB hard drive which will go with the unit. I took the OS drive from the 'new' laptop and cloned it so the old one would once again have a recovery partition and created recovery discs from both.

  • Pavilion dm1 Making A Recovery Set Using USB Flash Drive

I have a Pavilion dm1 for which I have tried to create a Recovery Set using a USB flash drive.  However, on starting the Recovery Manager, I find I can only use discs......but the Pavilion dm1 has NO disc drive and no facility therefore to burn discs!!! Am I wrong to be completely puzzled by this?  Does anyone have any idea at all, other than to purchase an external disc drive which I really do not want to do??  HP will sell me a Recovery Set but again ONLY ON DISC!! Seems absurd that a piece of kit that has no disc drive will only be able to be recovered using a disc!  I confess to being a bit computer illiterate so maybe I am missing something.  Any help most gratefully accepted.

If you are running Windows 8 and you are using a flash drive that has the Windows 8 compatibility icon that could very likely be the problem. It is a known issue and last I heard on it HP is working on a patch/update for Recovery Manager. If it has been released it should be on your driver page. If not I suggest trying an older flash drive with no Win 8 compatibilty icon.

Then i follow the  suggestion of hp expert Mr. Drvidpk

But this changes same problem occur  'please install battery'  pls help.........

I don't know that the recovery disks can be created in safe mode.  There will be certain software components that are disabled in safe mode that may impact how the program functions.
Have you tried to create disk 3 in normal mode again?  It could have been a one off event that caused the first write of disk 3 to fail.  Alternatively, you can contact HP to see what options are available of getting a set sent to you.

  • Disaster Recovery set-up for SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
We are migrating our SP2010 application to SP2013. It would be on-premise setup using virtual environment.
To handle disaster recovery situation, it has been planned to have two identical farms (active, passive) hosted in two different  datacenters.
I have prior knowledge of disaster recovery only at the content DB level.
My Question is how do we make two farm identical and how do we keep Database of both the farm always in sync.
Also if a custom solution is pushed into one of the farm, how does it replicate to the other farm.
Can someone please help me in understanding this D/R situation.
    Thanks,
    Rahul

Metalogix Replicator will replicate content, but nothing below the Web Application level (you'd still have to configure the SAs, Central Admin settings, deploy solutions, etc.).
While AlwaysOn is a good choice, do remember that ASync AO is not supported across all of SharePoint's databases (see
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj841106.aspx). LogShipping is a good choice, especially with content databases as they can be placed in a read only mode on the DR farm for an
active crawl to be completed against them.
