Recovery Tool for Zen Style 300

|I expect to receive a Zen Style 300 today and have been reading up on support and potential issues. I have enjoyed using?two Zen V Plus but often had to relaod firmware. The web page for the Zen Style 300 shows the recovery tool but it is not listed as a device supported by the recovery tool. Can someone claridy whether or not I can use the recovery tool? if needed?

#Hi,
I don't think it's supported since the ZEN Style is not in the list yet. You can find the firmware here.

  • Error: You have more than one Creative players connected. - Recovery Tool for ZEN

My Zen 4GB cannot be turned on anymore after a failed firmware upgrade (The installation hung up). I tried to run the firmware upgrade executable file again but the player must be on. So I tried to hardware reset by switching the power slide on while pressing the play button, but it still doesn't start. I downloaded and ran the Recovery Tool while the player was connected, but an error message appeared: "ERROR: You have more than one Creative players connected. Please remove all but one, click "OK" to exit and then run this program again." - There was no other players connected but the ZEN. Please help... What can I do

I have this very exact same problem with the same model. Did you ever find a solution to this?

  • Strange problem with Zen Style 300

I got a Zen Style 300 for my birthday and it is given me some problems. I tried looking at this forum and on google, but so far haven't found anything like it. What happens is that during the sync process, some folders on my portable harddisk (which is where the music is located) get renamed into names with strange symbols and become unreadable. The strange thing is that it doesn't happen with all files and just as strange is that it does happen with files not related to the sync that are located in a completely different folder. You can imagine I got quite scared the first time, afraid of having lost my music collection, but on restart everything was fine again. Until I plugged in the ZEN again that is.
My second problem is probably related to it. Part of the files transfered to the player don't show up when I try to listen to them with the player. When I check they have been copied to the player correctly, yet somehow they don't show up.
I have Windows XP and tried syncing with the standard Creative software, MediaMonkey and iTunes but they all face the same problem. Although with the second problem it might happen that files copied one way don't show up, while the same files transfered with a different program do. All 3 cause the problem with my harddisk. I tried formatting the player and updating it. So anyone has any idea what might cause this?

I have a similar problem. It recognized and paired with a Sony Ericsson MW600 Hi-Fi Bluetooth Stereo Headset once. I lost connection, could no longer connect, and tried to re-pair it. Now it recognizes the the headset's name (MW600), but when you try to pair with it stays on a "Please wait..." message. It will stay that way forever until I press the back (left) arrow. Then the message says "Remote Device not responding" and pairing fails. This MW600 headset pairs with other devices (cell phone, PC) just fine, though, so it's not malfunctioning.
I suspect this might be a Bluetooth version compatibility issue? I say that because when I connect to a Jawbone Era (pretty new device, probably latest Bluetooth spec), everything goes fine.
Also, if I clear all devices, then try to pair to just the Sony Ericsson MW600, I can get the M300 in a state where it hangs and will not respond to anything. I then have to press the reset button using a paperclip to start over.

  • Zen Style 300 16GB limited to only 4000 songs????

I got the Zen Style 300 6GB for my birthday. My mp3 collection is 3 GB and this will hold the whole thing.
But no all the songs show up. ?Why is there a 4000 file limit's ?Can Creative change the firmware to allow 5000 files?
Also, why is there very little mention of this mp3 player on the boardsIs it an older model?
I noticed the some player listed 4K mp3 files and 8K WMA files. ?So I changed some mp3 into wma to see if I could get pass the 4K mark, but it did not work.

    EHi Ivanka,
I'm pretty sure The Zen Style organises the music files by their tag information instead of the folder structure. I don't own the Style so hopefully someone else can confirm this, I searched google for it but I couldn't find anything.
If it uses tags then you can browse your music by artist, album, or genre.
You can configure the menu so that you can make album view the first option of the whole player. At default?I believe? album view is the third option in the music menu, which is the third option of the home menu. So that would be down, down, right, down, down, right.
This album view lists all the albums and you can go up and down in this list and press play (most right button), it will bring you to the now-playing screen and it starts playing all the tracks that belong to that album.
The back button (most left button) will always take you back to the screen you were before. So if you press back, down, play, it will start playing all the tracks that belong to the next album on the list.
This navigation by tags will of course only work when all the tracks are properly tagged, if you downloaded the tracks then they probably already are.
There is also an option to play all the files on the player in alphabetical order while ignoring the tags. This might be more useful, because you can then skip tracks back and forth, but there is no way to skip whole albums this way.
Oh and I almost forgot: The second button from the left is programmable and acts as a shortcut. You can configure it to perform any action, for example view albums, or play all files.
I hope this was helpful in some way and you will find your way with the player.

  • Creative Zen Style 300 - charging

Hi,?i have a big problem. I bought mp4 about 2 weeks ago. I listened to it from time to time. Yesterday, my mp4 warned me that the battery is very low. So i connected USB to my mp4 and to the charger and put it in to the socket. My mp4 is charging for about 0 seconds and it turned on autobmatically. And it won't charge! I thought that maybe it only charges when it has to be on. So i put it like that for a night. In the morning it was in the same condition like the last night! I downloaded ?Creative ZEN Style 300/00 Firmware .03.04 and?Creative ZEN Style Starter Pack .8.03?but it didn't help. Please, what do i have to do?

    Hi,
It looks like something is wrong with the player. Did you purchase this from your local electronics store or direct from Creative? Please contact the place of purchase for repair/replacement.

  • Problem making playlists with new Zen Style 300

/Problem making playlists with new Zen Style 300hI follow this procedure from the support page:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=804
I also have tried many other options and procedures, but each time the playlist that ends up on the player has only a few of the songs that I put on the play list. all the songs do exist on the player, but seems to randomly select only a small subset of the songs - example: 6 original, 2 get on the list, 30 on teh original, 6 get on the player's play list.
The odd part is if I go back to the player at some later time and connect via creative central, the correct playlist displays on the PC. However, is still wrong (truncated) on the player. So it seems to remember the correct play list, but just does not display correctly on the player.
    PC OS - win7
    creative centrale version .8.03
zen style 300 sw version: .0.07
Anyone get this to work on the zen style 300?
    Norm

?After many attempts? (like 6) with creative support to convince them this was a software bug, the end state response was to send the player back. Using better judgement, I waited for a new software release and indeed the problem was fixed in a subsequent release of the software.
My main frustration here was they seem to not want to escalate problems quickly to the right level of technical support that actually understands the software/debugging? vs hardware? and can look through a set of debugging steps and tests I sent in the first notes and realize it is not something hardware related. Even after citing my degrees in computer science/electrical engineering and having designed/debugged systems much more complex than this, all I got was simple procedural steps to repeat or send it back, it is a hardware problem. Ug!

  • Are there any recovery tools for optical media?

I've had a couple of DVD's  turned in to coasters recently and I was hoping that Linux could come to my rescue with some awesome 'raw-read' / recovery tools for optical media?
I burnt the discs in Windows 7 using InfraRecorder on a brand new Plextor drive (a 'PX-891SA') and these are my first attempts to burn discs with it so I'm a bit worried it could be a hardware fault!
I started off trying to back up some files to clear some space on my hard-drive, burning them to a dual-layer dvd, but the software kept failing to even start the burn process -- that was until I realised that I needed to run the program "as Administrator" (in Windows). It did then manage to burn the disc (I was using "Session-at-Once" mode) however when it came to the end of the burn process / the start of the 'verify data' phase it threw an error saying the write process had failed! Windows couldn't access the disc / data and (I think) still thought the disk was empty. So I restarted the burning application and used a function to just 'close' the whole disc. This seemed to work because Windows was then able to recognise the disc and read the data, although accessing the disc was slow and sounded 'stutter' ish.
I then tried to write a single layer dvd to finish off the last couple of gig I had to back up, but again the software completed the burn phase only to report a 'fail' error right at the end (I'm assuming) before finalising the disc. Although this time I'd tried to create a multi-session disc by using the '2XXA' (or something) 'Multi-Session' iso9660 format. The result was that Windows couldn't read the disc and still thought it was empty, even after trying a forced 'close disc' operation! -- Linux however could read the disc and see that the data had in fact been burnt to the disc (although I've not yet tried copying it in Linux!).
Finally I needed to burn a load of archives to a couple of discs (totaling ~9GiB) -- starting with a dual-layer dvd first everything seemed to be working fine, the burn process started okay and the write buffer was full etc., until at what I assume was the layer change-over it all came to a grinding halt and threw another 'write operation failed' error, only this time I can't even mount the disk in Linux....see 'dmesg | tail' output below:
    [ 5758.353005] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
[ 5758.353015] ISOFS: Interleaved files not (yet) supported.
    [ 5758.353016] ISOFS: File unit size != 0 for ISO file (1472).
[ 5758.353019] ISOFS: changing to secondary root
[ 5758.353035] ISOFS: Interleaved files not (yet) supported.
    [ 5758.353036] ISOFS: File unit size != 0 for ISO file (1536).
[ 5758.353037] isofs_fill_super: root inode is not a directory. Corrupted media?
Does anyone have any thought or suggestions that might help?
    - Is it likely to be a hardware fault? (I bought a Plextor because I thought they were one of the best!)
Maybe even if I could just close the session all would not be lost?
    -- Thanks in advance --

@chris_l -- yeah I was worried that might be the case, still I'm not sure if that explains why it keeps failing the burn process part way through?
I've tried this and that in Linux but without much luck. I'm still quite a noob with a lot of Linux things and this is the first time I'm trying anything to do with optical disks/drives etc. so I'm learning as I go...
The disk that failed in Windows but was 'readable' in Linux did just pass a run through ddrescue -- i.e. it created an output file okay and did not report any errors in the process.
However when I mounted the resulting image and tried to copy the files across the first folder reported an "input/ouput error" (just using gui copy+paste in Thunar file manager)
...the other folders did copy okay though!
It seems as though it's the lead-in / lead-out and disc finalizing process that are the main fail points with the burn operation. I don't know if InfraRecorder is any good or likely to be the problem? Anyway the drive cam with Nero (inc. Linux version) so might give either or both of these a go too, if they don't work either then at least I wont be short of something to rest a mug o' tea on
@ chris_l (again) -- the Plextor drives do have a "Vari-Rec" feature which allows a user to 'tweak' the laser power / output level so I might try this too.
@alphaniner -- thanks I've not seen this package before, I'm guessing it's a bit like cdparanoia but for dvds?!
    Thanks for the help!
(pre-post) UPDATE >>> I've just mounted my Windows partition  in Linux so I'll have a crack at burning the files using cdrtools before I resort to throwing the dvd drive out of the window and chasing it around the yard with a lump hammer

  • Are there any CD/DVD recovery tools for Mac?

In the good old days (??) of windows I had a plethora of handy recovery tools for rescuing data of scratched or damaged CD/DVD.
Recovery utilities is one area where the Mac community seems to fall flat - I've spent an hour looking and can't find anything remotely like IsoBuster or the other tools I used to enjoy...
If I ran those Windows tools under Parallels, do you think they would be able to diagnose a CD in the iMac's superdrive?
    Any thoughts?
    Steve

    Yes (I second that motion...)
Isobuster will work in windows on a virtual machine or in windows booted from a boot camp partition.

  • Backup and recovery tool for oracle 9ias

I was asked to look at a bunch of old servers still in use that is using oracle 9.0.2.3 application server.
I noticed that there is no proper backup in place on this server. In oracle 10g application we have the backup/recovery tool to perform backups. Does anyone know if such a tool exist for oracle 9ias?
    Thank you.

dmctl have an option to backup the configuration only, I dont remember if that's available for that version, but you can check running dcmctl command without parameters, it would show  a big list.
If dont, best way is making a cold backup, stop all process, make backup and start process. Remember to start proceses using dcmctl command, not opmnctl.
    Greetings.

I have just found out I was using a Class 10 SanDisk microsdhc card, and am concerned that I may have done damage to my phone and/or music collection (as per Nokia guidelines). Is anyone able to tell me what the chances are that this will have damaged them, and if there's anything I can do to rectify? Thanks!

  • AS Backup and Recovery Tool for HA environment

If there I have three nodes that are running SOA suite is it necessary to back each node fully or can I backup one of the AS in full and all the other incremental?
Are there any documents out there that describe the "Best Practice"? I have already read AS Backup Recovery tool and its strategy and it doesn't cover the HA environment backup strategy. Please advice.

As a lot of information in various xml files is host dependent I would stick to a backup per host scheme.

  • Is there a tool for identifying style-ized properties/attributes in mxml

    Hello Everyone,
With FlashBuilder it is quite easy to work within the mxml file due to the code completion feature. The same holds true when I try to use code completion for any css files that I'm including in my flex apllication. But often enough, without switching to a css file and trying to type out the name of a property and seeing if there is a code completion for it ... I don't know which of the properties can be moved to style sheets and which can not. I could ofcourse refer to the docs but that is an even slower process.
Does adobe or any one out there on the web (that you know of) offer a tool to look over all the *.mxml files and spit out a list of all the attributes/properties that one could afford to move-out into style sheets?
    Thanks!

OK, I've got to go see if I can find the definition for "*" in the stylesheet(s).  I'll bet it's in layout.css and I just missed it.
    Thanks.
