Recovery = Windows won't install from recovery discs

I have a dv6, performed recovery off the purchased 2 discs, and it says Windows won't install.  Also, will not let me log into administrator...says my account has been disabled.  Need help asap, on roomies pc.

I also tried using a HP Windows Recovery Disk from HP for my HP G71-340US Notebook Computer, but it repeatedly fails the installation with the message:
"No OS Flag Set on Unit.  Please use EEPROM to set OS SKU value = 2.  Error RStone S Update  SRU option configuration is invalid, Loc # cound not be found in product #.  Next step: Please use EEPROM to set Loc # in either SKU # or CTO localization code".
This occurs repeatedly when trying to run the Recovery Disk from HP.
I believe there is an EEPROM problem, but I do not know what to try next.   I have backed up all my persoal data, but everything is wipped off the hard disk, currently.  I can get into the BIOS, but that does not seem to be of any help. HP tech support is of no help.
Thanks for any help or recommendations.

  • Acrobat 9 Professional won't install from CS4 discs

I am not able to install Acrobat 9 Pro from my CS4 DVDs. All of the other programs install.
    I have tried the following:
    - Uninstalled all other versions of Acrobat Professional
    - Copied the DVDs to the desktop and tried installing from there
    - Used the Microsoft Windows Installer Utility (could not find any references to Acrobat Professional)
    - Disabled anti-virus software
    - Disabled Windows startup services that might conflict
    Nothing has worked.
I found something online that indicated the problem might be a corrupt data1.cab file.
Does anyone have suggestions on what I can try next?
    Thank you!

The Acrobat 9 download won't accept my CS4 license.  What I ended up doing was jumping through several hoops to get this to work:
Edited Acrobat out of the registry - no change, still pauses during installation
    Uninstall CS4 entirely
Run Adobe CS4 Clean Script - see http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    Run Microsoft Installer Cleanup program
    Reinstall CS4 including Acrobat
Neither the registry edit, Clean Script or Microsoft installer cleanup fix the problem on their own.  Yet, when I did them all in succession, Acrobat installed successfully - finally!  I hope this information spares someone else from investing too many hours to fix their installation problem.

  • Elements 6 won't install from Bamboo Disc

Our school recently bought some Wacom tablets that had Elements 6 as additional software on the Bamboo disc.  I have a lab of 10 new iMacs running Snow Leopard.  4 out of the 10 computers will not load Elements 6.  When I double click on the Setup icon it bounces in the dock for a few seconds, then just stops. These are all the same computers, with the same software, can't figure out why some won't install.  Can't be the discs as the disc that works on one machine won't work on another.  These computers have never had a different version of Elements.  Any help??  Thanks.

It still won't work.  I took the computers off the network, same problem.  Typically what happens is the setup icon bounces in the dock, but never asks for admin credentials.  On one of the computers, I tried again to double click on the setup icon and nothing happens, it appears as though the app tries to launch (happens very quickly) but then nothing, no bouncing in the dock.

  • SSD Drive on HP G60... won't install from recovery media (Vista)

I bought a new SSD .. Intel 501 series. When I try to install OS via the recovery media, it errors with "Recovery data is missing. Please use recovery media to restore your system." Why?
I have tried installing Win 7 on the same machine and it works fine. I just don't have another valid key for 7, so I want to use the OS that came with the machine (Vista)... Anybody solve this problem? Help is greatly appriciated.

I should add that the recovery media worked fine when I ugraded the HDD to another HDD.... but it's just not working when upgrading to a SSD

  • Boot Camp Trouble: 7 Pro x64 SP1 won't install from OEM Disc

    Hey Apple Support Community,
So I am trying to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 onto my Mac (specs below), but I run into the same error every time. During the "Expanding Windows Files," phase I get an error message:
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570
The particulars of my setup are as follows:
    • Late 2008/Early 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro
    • 2.66Ghz C2D
    • 8GB RAM (OWC)
    • 240 GB SSD replacing the original HDD (OWC, running 10.7.3)
    • 1 TB HDD replacing the optical drive (WD, partitioned 150GB for Windows install)
    • External USB enclosure w/ Apple Superdrive (OWC)
    • Install source is a System Builder DVD of Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64.
I know that pretty much the exact same scenario is detailed in another thread (linked below), but I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't any option I was overlooking before I attempted to source a new installer.
Thanks so much for taking the time to help!

Did you see thread of another person with trouble installing?
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3808299?tstart=0
    Things to try:
reseat the RAM - been there, done that with someone. Even though said it was "fine" and worked in OS X. Their RAM was not fully seated. On PCs it is not unheard of to remove some RAM during install, or use to be.
If you have two drives - unplug one (the SSD). Having two GPT is an issue. Sounds like this is NOT an issue though.
External Superdrive: not an issue, seems you were able to boot from DVD.
Otherwise, you need to edit a plist, not supported by Apple otherwise (there is a thread on how to add your MacBook Pro model number)
SP1 has been an issue for some systems - not sure why and horrible seeing it is newer and is the current version, but their system did work with pre-SP1
This is a DVD you bought, not one you burned. We all know by now the issue surrounding burning an ISO with Disk Utility.
I'm grabiing at straws but does any of that give you any ideas?

  • What to install from the disc ?

Got my p67a-gd65 running and would like to know what else to install from the disc or not ? so far I've just installed the chipset and the lan drivers and I do have a sata3 hd I'm running off of but I didn't know about the rest of the drivers (Win7 default audio seems to be working fine).

Not 100% sure about sata, But i run win7 and never installed the sata driver. If you want the full control on your sound i would install the sound drivers from disk.

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro from Recovery

I purchased a new W541 machine, knowing that I wanted to install the OS on a new SSD, and not the drive that came with the laptop. The sales person I spoke with mentioned that I should go with Win 8.1 through downgrade rights on Win 7 Pro. In this case, the recovery disk(s)? would come with the laptop and the laptop would have Win 7 installed on it.
However, upon arrival today, there are no such disks. I called tech support and they are going to ship them out. As I understand it, the license key is intergrated into the machine. Can I only install the OS from the Lenovo provided disks, or can I get the iso from Microsoft and install from that?
    Thanks!!
    Solved!

All good. I had a clean ISO on a USB stick and installed from that. It was able to find the Windows 8.1 key from the BIOS, so it looks like all is well

  • Recovery Disks won't install to new HD

    Hello, all,
My laptop froze up last week and wouldn't boot to the OS. Laptop is an HP Pavillion g6-1b60us, running Windows 7. I've tried a number of things, including a new hard drive, the recovery partition, recovery CDs, standard OS install discs, and testing the HD and memory in BIOS. All efforts are detailed below, sorry for the length, but I'm in Day 8 of trying to fix this.
I first tried restoring from the recovery partition, but after restoring, it told me on start up it couldn't find the boot manager.
I then tried installing Windows Vista from a standalone install CD (not an upgrade). Managed to boot it to Vista doing this, but when I tried to upgrade to Windows 8, the computer wouldn't complete the install on reboot.
I then ordered recovery disks from HP. Same problem as recovering from the recovery partition.
I opened up the computer and reseated the hard drive and ram.
I then used the BIOS to test the hard drive and the memory. Memory test came back fine, hard drive came back with an error.
Bought a new hard drive, same size, same brand. (500GB) I tried using the recovery disks to install the OS on the new drive. I consistently got errors saying files could not be copied to the hard drive in the first step.
Then tried installing Windows Vista, also got errors saying it wouldn't copy over.
Tested the hard drive in the BIOS, came back fine.
I then tried installing the OS to the original hard drive and cloning the drive to the new drive in Linux. This failed as well. For reference, the computer will run Linux perfectly using a USB drive.
I'm now at the end of my rope. Is there a chance the new drive is just a lemon and picking up a new one will fix this? Is there something with the recovery CDs that make them reject new drives? Any advice anyone has would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance!

Got a new hard drive (same size, different brand). Installed perfectly.
For some reason, the new HGST 500GB travelstar just wouldn't work, which is odd since the original is a Hitachi as well. The drive worked fine as an external, etc, and tested fine, so who knows. Kept getting the error "failed to create E:\sdv.flg".
Got it running just fine on a  Toshiba 500gb.

  • HP Laptop Won't boot from Recovery CD. (bios is set correctly) Jumpers? Faulty Optical Drive?

Won't boot from HP Recovery CD. Bios is set for ATAPI CD/dvd as priority. Boot menu only shows HD.
    More detailed:
Purchased HP recovery CD's from Hp. Put the CD in, went into the bios, set it up so the CD/dvd rom would be priorty in boot device. Saved and exited. Computer reboots, I press f9 to select from boot menu, Only the hard drive is shown. The ATAPI CD/dvd rom drive is not...I reboot and let it go past the first screen.
    BOOTMGR is missing.
Press Ctrl alt delete to restart.
^^ That is where I am at. The CD-rom drive is functional, it spins, it works. The bios has it recognized.
(This computer DOES NOT have an OS, so I am trying to put a fresh install in it. The CD is bootable, it came from HP saturday. I tested it on my Desktop and it boots like a charm.
    Help me please HP ;].

Hi! In your situation, I recommend ordering the recovery media from Toshiba. I'm thinking that your OS has been corrupted by a Virus and you no longer have the hidden recovery partition. I have replied on the other message also. If you have further questions, I will try to answer them as best I can. You can get the Toshiba recovery media here. Scroll down to the bottom to find recovery media.

  • Installed new hard drive now I can't get OS to install from recovery disks.

I have a HP Pavilion g4. I had to install a new hard drive into my laptop. I ordered the system recovery disks from HP directly. Windows 8 is the OS. I was on the first disk when a box popped up. The top of the box says Reducer. Then theres a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and next to that it says Copy File Fails. Then under that it says From: E:\PRELOAD\BASE2.SWM<br><br>                              TO: C:\RM\Image\BASE2.SWM<br><br> <br><br>                                 Press OK to retry.<br><br> <br><br>I pressed ok to retry but nothing happens.<br><br>On the screen behind it its blue with a black Recovery Manager box. It says Factory image recovery preparations and theres 3 steps under it. The 1st one is checked and it says Reformatting the Windows partition of the hard drive. The 2nd line also has a checked box and it says Copying files required to restore the hard drive. The 3rd line has the box NOT checked and it says Restoring files to hard drive. Then the progress is stopped at 20%. It went all the way to 100% during the 1st line where its reformatting. Then even though the 2nd line is checked thats where it stopped at the 20%. <br><br> <br><br>Sorry so long but im trying to be as thorough as possible. I havent found any answers and Ive called HP already with no solution. I hope someone can help!! <br>

    Hello @noworries8282 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to recovery Windows after replacing the HDD in your g4 notebook. Don't worry about writing a long post. It's better to have too much than not enough.
Can you please tell me the size, type, and manufacturer of the HDD you've installed in the notebook? If the drive you installed is smaller than the original drive the recovery can fail as it's built to format and partition the drive for the recovery and operating system partitions at a certain size. Many user's aren't aware of this and experience failures when attempting to recover to new drives, especially when trying to install SSDs.
If you haven't attempted the recovery a second time from scratch please try that when you get a chance.
    Hopefully this helps!
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!
Please click "Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

  • Satellite L850-161 won't boot from recovery disk

When I got the laptop in 2012 I created 4 recovery disks but since then i've had my HDD replaced in my SATELLITE L850-161 but it has the recovery partition with nothing in it and the laptop won't boot from disk either so I can't format it but really need to, any suggestions??

If you have 4 recovery discs be sure you start installation with disc number 1. After HDD exchange you should be able to use created recovery discs for recovery image installation.
Does some other bootable disc starts properly?
To be honest I dont understand how new HDDD can contain recovery partition that will be created if recovery image installation works.
Problem is that in such situation you dont have many options. In worst case you can order original recovery disc for your machine.

  • Install from Recovery partition after upgrade from 10.9

Hi all, on my MacBook 13" nov. 2012 I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite using the standard upgrade.
After a couple of days I decided to perform a clean install:
    - formatted "Macintosh HD Partition"
    - rebooted with cmd+R
    - reinstalled from recovery partition.
Is this really a clean install or my recovery partition contains pieces of the old Mavericks?
    Thanks in advance for answering
    Paolo

First I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite (with no erase). Then I  booted from recovery partition, erased Macintosh HD partition and installed Yosemite.
My question is: did I perform a really clean install or to be sure I had to erase the entire disk and recover from the Internet?
    Paolo
You performed a clean install of OS X Yosemite.
You were in the Yosemite Recovery HD.
You erased the Macintosh HD which erases the previous OS install, user accounts and data files -- everything! Then you reinstalled JUST OS X Yosemite.
