Recovery with automatic back up

A few days ago, my computer would not load windows. I was told by a couple different computer techs that I needed to reformat the hard drive due to a virus. I have windows vista on a gateway computer that was bought at best buy a year and a half ago. I used the recovery with automatic back up to save my docs and pics. Now my question is how do I get my pics and docs from the recovery drive? I am at a loss here.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thats so much of a description its hard to start someplace to explain to you.
Are you saying you ran the recovery partition on your computer to load it to a factory default? If thats the case, its a total destruction of the drive and restored to the time you first opened it out of the box, that means everything gets deleted on the target drive.

  • Problems with automatically backing up ebooks

    Hi,
I just started using Adobe Digital Edition several days ago with version 1.5. And there is a "ebx_backup" folder under "My Digital Editions" which stores the automatically backed-up ebooks files. But yesterday, after i download the new version 1.6 and purchased several others new ebooks afterward, they are no longer automatically backed up and doesn't appear in the "ebx_backup" folder. Is it a bug? How can i solve it? Or can i manually move the .pdf ebooks from "My Digital Editions" to "ebx_backup" folder?
    Thank you.

  • NAT update Messed with automatic back up

as i was working on my mac, a pop up window asking me to update to NAT security for the time capsule. i did this and i got the flashing amber light and could not get online. i used the reset button on time capsule and then reset my airport config. was able to get online. tried to manually back up and got a failed message. went thru this a few more times. finally erased my back ups, thinking that would solve the issue, no luck. tried disk utility - couldn't see TC. any help is appreciated. thanks.

Neither the Time Capsule nor its disk will appear in Disk Utility.
The Time Capsule itself should appear under Shared in Finder and should be discovered by the Airport Utility.
The Time capsule disk should appear in a Finder Window if you click on the Time Capsule name in Finder. The disk should also appear in the Airport Utility -> Manual Setup -> Disks.
Does your TC appear in any or all of these 'venues.'
When a backup fails the little red 'i' nest to failed should reveal a reason if you click on it. The reason may be fairly general but it's a start.
Also the system.log in Console may give more details about the failure. The relevant entries include not only 'Time Capsule', Time machine but also 'backupdb.'

  • How do i get the "open with" option back for pdfs after accidentally hitting the save option which now automatically saves any pdf?

Normally when I click on a pdf I would get an option to "Open With" or Save. I usually just opened pdfs first. I accidentally clicked on the Save option in this dialog box and now when I click on any pdf it automatically asks me where I want to save it. I want to get the "open With" option back, because I don't necessarily want to save a copy of every pdf.

Recently my MacBookPro locked up on startup. Could not get past a certain point of progress bar. I had upgraded to Yosemite few weeks back, with no issues. I ended up doing a Recovery with Time Machine and I got all my apps, photos, documents, etc. back okay --- except I got error messages that my "registration for Photoshop (I use CS4 Extended) and Photo Mechanic are no longer working".  I worked on Photoshop first, and tried (several times) to fix it with their online help suggestions.  Nothing worked.
Is there a simpler way to "get my licenses/registrations back"???  I am also going to contact Camera Bits about the Photo Mechanic issues.   Thanks

Same problem and for months now. I haven't been able to find a solution, but I suspect that's because I don't know exactly what's wrong.

  • Are phone contacts with phone numbers automatically backed up

Are phone contacts including phone numbers automatically backed up in icloud?

Yes, but restoring them from a backup can be difficult and isn't officially supported by Apple.  To make sure you have them backed up, use an app like My Contacts Backup on your phone to back them up as a vCard attachment to an email.  Send the email to yourself an save the attachment.  If you ever need to restore them you can email the attachment back to your phone and tap the attachment to restore them to your phone.

  • How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

  • Time Machine NOT automatically backing up - Help

Running 10.5.2 on my MBP and MB. Have a TC 500 installed yesterday. Did the initial backup on both. Seems that Time Machine will not backup to TC unless I click on TC in my finder (to mount). If I restart or sleep the computer or switch networks (and come back to TC) TM doesn't backup. Been 3 hours since I've been back on the TC. Is there something I need to set up to get the computer to automatically back up without me having to tell the computer the TM designated disk is available. Thanks.
    Sean

I hope this helps you...I just spent 3 hours on the phone with Apple Care and finally got the problem fixed. The problem was the NAME OF THE time capsule. I had used "Tony Ry*****'s Time Capsule" (I used xxxxx because I prefer not to use my whole last name on here). In any event, the name was too long! I changed it to "TimeCapsule" in Airport Utility. To do this, launch Airport Utility, click on "Manual Setup". Under the "Disks" section, you will see the name of your time capsule listed under "Time Capsule Disk" . Click on that, and to the right a white dialogue box will appear where you can change the name. Change it to something short with no spaces, or " ' " . After doing that you will need to go into the time machine preferences and select a new backup disk (since you changed the name). This worked perfect for me. Hope it helps you!

The backup files for my devices are saved to my internal hard drive. I have a small internal hard drive and would like them to be saved to an external drive. How can I change where iTunes automatically backs up to?

This has nothing to do with iTunes as iTunes provides no way to move or relocate the backup files.
A search of google or the fourms would reveal ways to create a folder link to relocate the physical location where the files are stored.

  • I automatically back up my hd and now can't use my itunes library... Help!

I started using a Lacie external hd to automatically back up my hard drive using the time machine application. however, now when I try to play the music from my itunes library (or anything else for that matter) I get a message saying: "it can not be played because the original file could not be found" it then ask if "I want to locate it". I click yes but it only takes me to the drives directory.I go to the library in the external hard drive but when I find the itunes library in that hd and click to open,it sends me back to the original library and the whole cycle starts again.
Can anyone explain me what's happening and how I can get get my library back to play the music?

I'm glad that you were able to find one. I can't find the Twitter add-on that you had. Or at least it won't work with Firefox 29. I was able to find something that I think will do the trick for you. [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/twitter-app/?src=ss Firefox Twitter Appp] I would say try that. You did not say that you have ad block + yet. So here is the link to that [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/?src=ss Adblock Plus] . Hope this helps.

  • Will Time machine automatically back up an external hard drive connected to my iMac?

I have a Lacie external firewire hard disc connected to my iMac, containing Aperture library. Will Time Machine automatically back up both the external disc and the iMac HD?
    Adrian

Will Time Machine automatically back up both the external disc and the iMac HD
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and open Time Machine
    Click on Options
Do you see the name of your Lacie drive in the "Exclusions List"?  If yes, the Lacie drive is currently not set to backup with your Mac.
Click on your Lacie drive to highlght it, then click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the drive from the "Exclusions" list.
Now, Time Machine will backup both your Mac and the Lacie drive on the next pass. Allow plenty of time for this backup, avoiding wireless if possible, and connecting the Mac directly to one of the Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule. Ethernet will go 3-5 faster than wireless, on average.

  • Is there a comparable automatic back-up system to Time Machine for 10.4.11?

My dad has 10.4.11 running on a G4 tower.
I want to get him a back-up system that will save all his work.   I myself have an Intel Mac running 10.6.8, with Time Machine saving all of my work to an external HD.
I know you can't use Time Machine with 10.4.11   Is there a comparable back-up system to TM that does automatic back-ups for 10.4.11?
(One other note--he still maintains Classic OS 9 on his system as well as 10.4.11.   Will the back-up device also back up whatever he has on OS 9 as well as 10.4.11?  And does it also back up the actual system software--the OSs 10.4.11 and 9--as well as all the files?  So if he needed the backups, he would not need the system discs?)
    Thanks for your help!

I'm sure Tr-Backup 5.1.7 will do everything you want, & far more that TM...

If a reset doesn't work, try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
