Recovery with only HDDRecovery?

The laptop was dying, I copied the HDDRecovery partition to a spare drive, and again to a new drive, using Partition Magician.  The laptop is a C655E-S5041 under WIN 7.  Now the original drive is dead.  The new drive is in the laptop, but will not boot, displaying instead, "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key".
I have access to a Repair Disk an early System Image, but not for another month.  Plus I sense they may be futile resources since the new drive is not identical, and the Repair Disk could not cope with the original dying hard drive.
My Question is: how do I get this computer back to factory defaults with minimal effort?  I am very grateful for any help offered.
Thanks,
kimo

Thank you for your reply, Jerry.  Yes, I mananged to find the driver for the network adapter, which got me connected.  Windows Update has taken over, and nearly done with 178 updates. I can't help but notice that the generic windows install created a third partition, System Reserved (primary).
I checked out he recovery media early on, and it priced at $30 which is not too bad.  I do have a System Image disks, created shortly after purchase, but they won't be in my physical possesion for another 4 weeks.  All this fussing around is helping to verify that only the hard drive had failed, there was no other hardware failures that might cause me to scrap the unit.
Under these circumstances, I'm likely to wait until the System Image disks show up, and hope they restore the HDDRecover partition to its full utility.  If there was a shortcut to evoke the HDDRecover to perform its factory restore, I would be ready to try it.
What tempts me, is to try to get a dos prompt before control is passed to the main partition, and see if the boot menu can be evoked, with the return to the 'out of the box' state option active.  Its a long shot, but I have some time to kill before the System Image disks show up.
If anyone has some thoughts about how to get the restore factory state option to show up on any menu, I would be happy to try it and report back.
Thanks again, Jerry.

  • Recovery with only Datafiles?

We have an Oracle 10g running on a RedHat ES4. Yestoday one of my colleague mistakingly removed all the files under oradata folder. Now we have most data files in hand, no control files and redo logs, and we don't have system01.dbf.Is this possible to revcory the database with only datafiles we have?
    Thx a lot!

    Hi,
You still have two workarounds of this problem.
There are tools that can extract data from Oracle datafiles when they can't be recovered with usual techniques, as in your case.
If your data is critical for your organization then you can do either of the following:
    - call to Oracle Support: http://www.oracle.com/support/contact.html and ask them for Data Recovery UnLoader (DUL) tool. It is a tool that is owned by Oracle and you must pay to use it. It can extract data directly from Oracle datafiles.
    - Use third-party tool (similar to DUL and based on DUL) that is called: jDUL/DUDE (Database Unloading by Data Extraction). It is provided by a dutch company as a service. You can find more about the product on the company's site: http://www.ora600.nl/introduction.htm
Interesting info about the tool and people behind the company you can find on the Doug Burns's Blog: http://oracledoug.blogspot.com/2006/05/dude-wheres-my-data.html
In both cases you must pay for this service but it is still an option for you if you really need to recover your lost data.
    Hope this helps!

  • Rescue and Recovery with only one partition, what will happen? Thanks!

Hello, everyone! This is my question: If I do a clean installing of Windows 7 with only one partition(the C and I install the Rescue and Recovery tool, when I make a backup of the system by using the Rescue and Recovery then the backup file will be stored in the partition C:. So when I restore the system with the backup file later, if I can succeed and what will happen? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Backups and restores will still work.  The risk is if something happens to your hard drive, then you would lose the backups as well.  For this reason it's a much better idea to store your backups somewhere else, such as USB hard drive or network.

The logic of computer manufacturers' escapes me. The recovery console has the option of making back-up discs -- this is convenient for the user. • Recovery with time machine needs over 1000 hours

I have a Macbook Air (Mid 2011, 128 GB SSD, 4GB RAM, Mountain Lion) and I wanted to recover the OS for testing purposes from my external hraddrive (500GB USB Gdrive). Now the recovery has started and it shows me a remaining time of more than 1000 hours. The value still increases. There was no need for recovery, I only wanted to check the functionality. backups were running without problems. Whats wrong now? Any suggestions?

I'm sorry I have no idea what you're asking; I don't know what you mean by 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)? I bought the hard drive specifically for use with this Mac; I plugged it in & copied across around 58MB of files from the Mac hard drive with no problem; I did it in small parts but the total thing only took a few hours. I was then advised to do this 'total back-up', which is now taking several days to only back up 59MB. Why is life so complicatd with Macs?! I'm used to just plugging things in & they work, no fuss or bother.
I really would like to stop it now; but need some advice as to whether what has already been copied across over the past 28 hours will actually be on the HD, or will I have to start all over again? Second question; clearly it is easier to just drag & drop files across to the HD - this Time Machine thing is useless - but I am not totally sure which files it is copying. Would I just copy everything from 'My computer' / applications, etc?

  • Exporting slideshows results in file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

When I export slideshows the result is a file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

Usually when the phone shows just the white Apple logo, it indicates an issue with the system software that prevents the phone from finishing it's boot sequence. When this happens, you will need to restore the phone, which removes all data and replaces the system software with a fresh set.
Since the phone is not seen in iTunes when it's in this state, you will have to put it into DFU mode for iTunes to see it.
To put the phone in DFU mode:
    - make sure the phone is connected to a computer with the current version of iTunes on it.
    - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
    - let go of the sleep/wake button and continue pressing the home button. The iTunes screen will show a short progress bar then show a dialog box stating that an iPod was detected that is in recovery mode.
    -click OK
-click the Restore button in the middle of the iTunes page
After the restore the phone should be back up and running and you can sync your data back.

  • How to use Flash recovery area only for flashback database feature

I would like to use flash recovery area only for flashback database feature, which means, flash recovery area will store only flashback logs.
I dont want to use that file system for any other files, like archive log files, database backups, control file copies, multiplex redo log, etc
is it possible? I want to use this feature only for flashback database option and hence i dont want to disturb any existing configuration in my database
including backup jobs. Is it required to store archive redo log files also in flash recovery area to use the flashback database feature?
I certainly can't afford to have a copy of entire database in this file system as size of my DB is more than the flash recovery area file system I have.
    Thanks

    Aman,
I think i was not clear in my question. Let me try again
My only requirement is to use flashback database feature (or be prepared to use if required). I dont want to create a large file system to use this FRA to store all these files. Out of all the files being stored here copy of data files seems to be consuming more space. I see these files are classified as transient and permanent files. I am okay with permanent files. I fear that this file system may consume more space if i store backup files on disk. I want database backups to go to tapes, not to the FRA disk. Is it possible?
    Thanks for your reply
Okay, well in that case you can use RMAN and push the backups to the tape drives. FLB logs would be stored on the FRA.

It's not real clear what you want to do.
Do you mean you don't want to back up your personal data at all, just the operating system?  If so, why?  Usually it's the personal data -- documents, photos, videos, etc., that are most important to folks, so should be backed-up.
Or do you mean, you have some sensitive data that you don't want anyone to be able to recover if they get your backup disk?  If so, Time Machine can encrypt the backups, so anyone without a backup can't recover anything.
    Or something else?

i want to reinstall os X yosemite on my macbook Air but i erased the hard drive and i cant get the local recovery option; only internet recovery; is there any way to go back and get local recovery option?

    Hi Bockworld1,
I'm afraid you did an error when erasing your hard-drive, this has automatically erased the "local recovery". In order to pass-by this, you must use a former Mac OS X installation DVD (such as Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and then when updated to 10.6.8 you may access the Mac App Store to recover the Yosemite Installer and proceed to a fresh "update" OR creating a Bootable USB Installation drive with DiskMaker in order to alway get a installation copy.
I also suggest you to create a USB Basic Operating System (you must select a local USB device to install Yosemite or whatever OS you want) with only the base operating system to launch your computer in case of Main Operating System issues.
Given the amounts of issues reported by users with 10.10.2, I command you to download 10.10.2 version to get a stable OS working.
Let me know how it is going.
    Good Luck.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Where it says place the iPod in recovery mode use this program.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.
    Help.
