Recrding in Captivate 4 makes my application become un-responsive

Hi,
I am currently trying to put together some tutorials highlighting key functionality relating to the software we develop. I am using Captivate 4 but as soon as I start the recording process the application I am running becomes unresponsive and I am unable to record. The application I am working with consists of a Workspace which can have mutiple documents open at the same time. I should mention that this is the first tutorial I have put together using Captivate, so I'm not that experienced . Please note that the application is not at all unstable in normal circumstances.
If anyone has had a similar experience I would really appreciate some guidance.

Sometimes we find that Captivate just doesn't want to play with certain applications. (or, since the application becomes unresponsive, it may be more accurate to say the application doesn't want to play with Captivate!)
At any rate, it poses a problem to try and record the application, no?
I've heard that others have overcome these situations by establishing a remote desktop connection and run Captivate on a PC that has a remote connection to a PC running the application. You then record the application that way.

go to settings menu...then connectivity...then settings...set "Data use in home country " to always ask....so next time whenever any app would try to connect to internet then it would ask you to either cancel it or other options like "connect automatically" or "connect this time only"

How to make an application scalable?

Few years ago I have written a java application (J2SE) used to translate some requets from one protocol to another one (propriétary protocols). At that time, this applicaiton has been designed to process about 1000 requests per day.
Now we would like to use it to process 100 times more requests per day but in this case the application becomes too slow.
I'm wondering if there is any techniques that would allow me to dynamically start multiple instances of my application to process these requests faster in case of overload.
Does such mechanism exists with J2RE?
If yes, can you please give me some details about it?

Have you tried profiling your application? If it is CPU bound, this should help significantly. If it is IO/network bound it is worth understanding what it is spending its time waiting on.
Does such mechanism exists with J2RE?You cannot use more that 100% of your CPU so creating more processes at this point won't help. If you are IO bound, more thread won't help either. If you are network bound, more threads can help, but fixing the network/remote service would be a better solution.
You need to understand what is making your application too slow and fix it or tune for that problem specificity. Adding more and more threads doesn't always make a program go faster.

How to make .exe applications

good day, im interested in java and started reading tutorials. i dont have prior background in programming. as i skip reading on tutorials, i notice that programs are run on command prompt. my question is, can i make a program that have filename extension .exe and when you click that icon it runs the program directly on the screen? i thought that program like C++ or java can make a application program just like games that dont need command prompt.

Your question is very broad and would best be answered by any one of a number of books. I really don't know which book to recommend without understanding a little more about your background and goals.
Firstly, we'll need to know whether you want to develop for the Mac, iPhone or Safari. It might also be good to know what kind of app you have in mind.
Secondly, it would be helpful to know whether you intend to design and program this app personally or whether you intend to hire people with expertise in developing Apple software. If you intend to develop the app yourself, it would be most helpful to know what you have developed in the past and/or your related college coursework or self-study.
There's a wealth of information at the Apple Developer sites, and I would recommend becoming familiar with the site that applies to your interest area: [http://developer.apple.com>. If you live near a good book store, I'd also recommend spending time in the Apple developer section. Typing +programming apple+ in the search field of an online bookstore will also give you lots to look over.

Applications become inactive and unusable, losing focus

So far this has happened with most apps.
Don't know what is causing it, but it may be Time Machine.
Intermittently, and more some days than others, applications become inactive and unusable. The symptom is when you try and switch to an application, it does not come to focus at the front.
For example, Mail is open, but I cannot do anything within the app. I can move the application window with the mouse, but cannot click any buttons at all.
If I go back to the finder and switch to Mail, it still says Finder in the top-left menu. It will only show the name of the last visited (working) app, and never Mail.
I can't find a way to resurrect Mail when this happens, including waiting patiently, using the Dock (both single click, and long click), using TAB and COMMAND to switch to the app, using the Force Quit menu to switch and even putting the machine to sleep. Nothing will fix it apart from Force Quitting the app, and restarting it.
This has happened with Safari, Mail, iTunes, iCal, Garageband (meaning lost work), as well as many Adobe apps, which suggests it is a problem with the system software.
Has anyone had similar issues, or even better does anyone know how to fix this?

Create a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

I'm tired of re installing the application after deleting the OOBE file to get updates and syn settings between computers for Photoshop. Is this an endemic problem with others? Similar problem just happened to me with the Creative Cloud Update 1.7.1.418—slightly different so I thought I'd share. I have multiple Adobe Creative Cloud programs installed on my computer, all working just fine. I updated the Cloud App to the latest version and then it shows me that I have only one program installed! All my previously installed programs (Photoshop and the like) still work but show as "install" instead of "Up to date". Initially I thought I'd have to re-install the Cloud app or recreate the OPM data base but then I noticed that some of the Cloud app preferences (Apps > Settings > App Language) were different to what I had set previously. I use English (International) language, the update had reverted the app back to English (North American). I flicked back to my previous language and bam, all my apps now show as being installed correctly.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by application, but you can not turn whole applications to webservices. What you can do easily is to turn your services, e.g. the public methods in your stateless session bean layer as web services. There is different ways to do this, but you might want to check out Axis (http://ws.apache.org/axis ), which is a OS tool for creating WS call stacks over existing objects.

How do you make an application open on a specific monitor?

How do you make an application open on a specific monitor? I have two monitors, and I was able to get Firefox to open on the secondary display always by resizing it with the option or command key [I forget which one] and then quitting it. Now everytime I start it, it opens on the second monitor.
However, when I try to do the same with QuickTime [when playing videos], it always opens on the primary display no matter what I do with it. How do I make it always open on the secondary display?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no, Spaces is not what I want. I have two physical monitors, and simply want an application to always open on one monitor, not be able to switch back and forth between different desktops.

How do I make an application the default?

I installed Microsoft Office 2011. I do not want to use Outlook for mail. I want to use Apple Mac Mail. Sometimes Outlook opens instead of Mail. For instance if I click on an email link in Safari. How do I stop this?
How do I make an application the default? This would be the same as make a file type open with a default application in Windows.

Re setting a default app for email -
Start up Mail. Open Mail's Preferences (Preferences in the Mail menu). Go to the General tab if it does not open with that chosen. First item in that screen, "Default email reader" - use the pulldown menu to select the app you wish to use. Then close the Preferences window and quit Mail.
Re setting a default app for a given file type -
Select a file of that type by clicking it once, then press Command-I (Get Info in File menu). Look down in the Get Info window to the section "Open with:" - use the pulldown menu there to select the app you wish to use for that file type, then click the "Change All..." button. From then on, double-clicking any file of that type should open it using the app you set.

indetail .As Andy Millman might observe, you're having a laugh. This is a big topic, far exceeding what it is reasonable to expect people to help out with in a Forum. Do you not have the 6i documentation?
OTN has a site for upgarding to web forms. Although it is mainly focussed on moving to 9i/10g a lot of the issues and solutions apply to moving a 6i client/server app to web deployment. For further help there is a Forms.
