Recreatable Bug in Audition 3

Hello all, I believe I have found a re-createable bug in AA3 and here is how you can create it.
Load up a session, and on one of the tracks select all the clips.
Now, right click a clip and select "clip envelopes > pan > use splines".  So now you have set the clip pan envelopes (NOT the volume envelopes but the PAN envelopes) to use splines.
Now play back your Multitrack session and within the clips you have set to use splines, keep creating new enveloping points and adjust these envelope points just before the cursor while the cursor is playing and moving toward the envelope points...adjust envelopes just before the cursor gets there and eventually Audition will stop functioning and you will get the message
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
(X) Runtime Error!
C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\AdobeAudition 3.0\Audition.exe
R6025 Pure Virtual Function Call"
It also happens (although not nearly as often) when I'm adjusting the "pan splines" whilst Audition is not playing the session, and is completely stopped.
This is the first real "bug" I have encountered, has anyone else had the same experience or are you able to re-create it?  You have to play with the splines from anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute and eventually with repeated changes in the pan and the addition of more envelope points it will crash.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if you can re-create it in 3.0.1, which I have yet to upgrade to because my friend did and he has now encountered bugs that were not in the original 3.0, can anyone confirm this bug and/or whether it's been fixed in 3.0.1?
My system has been so stable otherwise I don't want to touch it, even with this re-createable bug, after it crashed if I "control+s" and save the results, it doesn't save the session permanently, but when I choose "continue session" in the post-crash dialog box, it returns my clips with the spline envelopes set just as they were just prior to the crash.

Could you possibly direct me to a list of what 3.0.1 corrects?
I can do slightly better than that - I'll post it here:
Changes in Adobe Audition 3.0.1:
• Spectral tools no longer crash machines with more than four CPU  cores.
• The Graphic Phase Shifter effect has been reenabled.
• Performance while recording MIDI data has been improved.
• The Sequencer will now record MIDI data even if the panel is  closed.
• Adobe Audition will now launch on Windows Vista® systems where the  My Documents folder was moved from the default location.
• The application will now ignore Windows "Locale" settings to  format decimal data in comma-delimited XML settings files.
• A Healing Brush crash issue has been addressed.
• Crossfades are no longer incorrectly added to grouped clips when  overlapped with non-grouped clips.
• Invalid crossfades will no longer be added to the end of a  previously trimmed clip after enabling or disabling looping.
• Invalid crossfades for clips after enabling non-session  tempo-based looping have been addressed.
• Dragging crossfaded clips onto the master track no longer creates  two additional tracks and an error in the crossfades.
• Inserting MIDI from the Files panel would cause the application to  hang in Edit mode for an audio file whose sample rate didn't match the  session.
• Several scenarios where crossfade changes could corrupt a session  were addressed.
• Closing a session without exiting the rewire app no longer causes  Adobe Audition to save a blank session.
• Undo no longer becomes disabled after undoing the creation of  unique copies of two crossfaded clips.
• Crossfaded clips no longer disappear after undoing move clips.
• Canceling VST scan no longer causes Adobe Audition to become  unstable.
• If a selection existed, a full session mixdown would only process  MIDI data through the end of the selection.
• The Open MIDI dialog box was not completely modal and could cause a  crash.
• MIDI Host had problems with some Spectrasonics VSTi instruments,  where it wouldn't show the entire UI.
• CD burning would sometimes create a corrupted disk but still  report a successful burn.
• Applying the Clip/Pop Eliminator no longer crashes the  application.
• Crash recovery is now more reliable when using Auto-Save For  Recovery.
• When the application detects the possible saving failure that  causes a corrupted session, a warning dialog box now appears so users  can retry the save.
• Transport controls are no longer disabled if a new session is  opened without closing the existing session.
• Crossfades will now retain their original shape when clips are  moved and the session is reopened.
Please note the one I bolded, and the one underneath. I also strongly suspect that this is only the list of tangible things - there have been quite a few changes 'under the hood' to make all this possible, and this has definitely been more stable than the original version - I had healing brush crashes before, and not a single one since. I'm not aware of a single report from anybody that this bugfix release has made anything worse or more unstable at all, and most reports of crashes have more to do with people's unstable OS installs than anything else, and they certainly don't relate to the bugfix, whatever you may have heard.

  • Music + ical bug

I have found a recreatable bug that is somewhat annoying. When listening to music I hit the home screen button then the iCal button. When iCal is loading the music stops and iCal crashes. It happens everytime. Does anyone else get this? Thanks!

Just tried it and even did some math and didn't crash either program. Not to say it wouldn't crash if I kept using it like it does with Safari, Notes and Maps...
Sorry, just noticed that was cal, not calc. I tried the calendar too though, and it didn't immediately crash either program.

  • Adobe Audition CS6 (5.0.1) update patch released

UPDATE:  A new 5.0.1 update build has been made available as of July 20, 2012, due to an issue discovered in the Dynamics Processing effect.  If you previously updated Adobe Audition CS6, please visit the links below and install the new update.  This update is not available via Adobe Update Manager and must be downloaded via the website.
Today we released an update to address several bugs in Audition CS6. Many were minor workflow issues, but a few could cause Audition to crash under certain circumstances.
Download the patch installer directly from:
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5419
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5418
bugs fixed in Adobe Audition CS6 5.0.1 update:
APE files with metadata inserted by other editors cause Audition to crash (Windows)
If previous session directory no longer exists, Audition leaves the Folder Location field empty
Multitrack fades no longer respect the fade type preference.  (Worked in CS5.5)
Audition may crash when users choose to create unique copies of selected MT regions
Playback stutters when creating a unique copy of a clip while right-click dragging
Channel Mix settings not honored on export when not exposed in dialog
EUCON Soft Key set contains keys that do nothing
Session Tempo broken on systems using commas instead of decimal points
Bounce to New Track > Selected Track bounces AFTER passing through track output
If a favorite was recorded on subset of channels, the favorite will fail if those channels are disabled
Sending a stereo bus side-chained to a mono track may crash the application
UAD-2 plug-ins missing from Windows Effects menu
Audition may crash on launch when CoolType encounters certain installed fonts (Mac)

I'm really happy to see this update out, but I haven't been able to install it on my Mac yet.
The Updates item in the help menu is greyed out for me. When I try running the installer from the direct download it says 'Updates have been suppressed by your administrator.'
I can't imagine that I would have disabled updates.
    Any advice?
    Joseph

  • Viewing video thumbnails in Audition CS 5.5

I would like to be able to view MPEG-4 file thubnails (and edit the audio protion of these files) in Audition CS 5.5's video preview window, but I only have Quicktime 6.3 installed on my computer. Here's the message I get when Audition boots:
The Audition help file states that
"The Waveform Editor lets you open the audio portion of video files in the formats below. The Multitrack Editor lets you insert the same file types and provides a preview in the Video panel.
To access these video formats, QuickTime must be installed."
If I were at home, I'd simply start downloading newer Quicktime versions. However, I'm installing software on a workstation at a large company, and need to get IT approval for any software that is not already approved (and strangely enough, newer Quicktime software/plugins are not yet approved). Can anyone advise the exact Quicktime version I need to submit for approval (I'm running 32 bit WIndows 7.)
Thank-you in advance for your help.

Sorry we didn't pick this up before. Previous post is, of course, complete garbage but I can answer your question now, having investigated it.
Essentially this is a bug in Audition CS5.5 - it really should 'copy to new' in the same format as the original. Bad news is that it won't be fixed in CS5.5. Good news though is that it's fixed in CS6 - if you copy a selection to a new file, it's in exactly the same format as the original.

  • Captivate 7 and Audition CC on MacOSX 10.8.4

    Hi,
i record a video demo with CP7. If I export the audio to Audition CC, the application started, but the audio from the demo isn't avaliable in Audition. Any ideas, what's wrong?
    Thank you
    Andreas

    Hi Adobe employers
i switched to Audition CS6 and now the export works.
Is it a bug in Audition CC or in CP7 and when do you fix it, if so?
    Question:
is it possible to make Audition CS6 the default for CP7 to open audio files if Audition CC is also installed?
    Thank you

Thanks for the insight. But the issue here is with the response.sendError() method.

  • Audition not saving Metadata correctly

I'm seeing two problems with how Audition CS6 (version 5) saves metadata:
    Problem 1:
After saving a file as a WAV file when you view that file in Windows Explorer many of the metadata tags have the last character truncated.  The only way that I have found to solve the problem is to add a trailing space on each fields entry.  In fact if you change the Recording Date to say "2012" the date won't show up at all in Windows Explorer, but if you save it as "2012 " it shows correctly.
    Problem 2:
If I open a WAV file to save it back out as an MP3 - it doesn't matter if I do a batch process or one file it is the same - all the metadata is lost (YES, I have the "Include markers and other metadata" box checked).  I follow these steps.. Open the Wav file>Click "Save as">set Format Settings to MP3>check the include markers>click OK.  At this point if you look at the resulting mp3 file in windows explorer you will see that no metadata is present, but if you still have the file open in Audition it appears that all of the metadata is there - you can even try changing a value and saving again, but Windows explorer still shows no data.  If you completely close the file in Audition and then reopen the mp3 file in audition, you will see that there is NO metadata there either.  At this point you can then repopulate the data in audition and save the file and then it will show the metadata when viewed with Windows Explorer.    VERY Annoying!!
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in Audition... It sure looks like a bug to me!!

Okay, well I just checked this out in Windows 7, 64bit. If there were going to be problems, this is where I'd expect them to be - and there simply aren't any - it works absolutely fine. If you don't put the metadata in a fields absolutely correctly, you get a ! at the end of the line, and all bets are off at that stage. And in the date format, that puts the year in first, then the month and then the date (yyyy-mm-dd). So if you try to put too many figures at the end, then yes I'd expect them to get truncated. But everything I put in my test file showed up fine, and correctly, in Windows Explorer.

I checked this one out too, and once again didn't get the result you did. I saved a load of ID3 tag information in the same file that I used above, and saved two versions of it - one as a wav, and one as an MP3. Both saved the metadata correctly. Then I re-opened the wav file and resaved it again as another MP3, this time with a different file name - didn't touch the metadata at all. When I checked the new MP3, all the metadata was there, just as it was previously.
So I don't know what you are doing (or which OS you are using either, come to that), but here it works fine. The previous complaint about MP3 related to indicated time with VBR saves, incidentally - not metadata at all.

  • Premiere Pro & Audition tifferent time settings and cant edit anything correctly.

In Premiere Pro i put video, edit it in After Effects but audio in Audition.
When all is correct then i speed up video in Premiere pro but since audio speedup is shi-bad therefore i speed up in audition BUT ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET CORRECT TIME LINE IN PREMIERE TO PUT IN IN AUDIOTION.
In Audiotion Effect/Time and pitch/Strech and pitcher when i put same speed as in Premiere, Audition does the opposite.
Thats one fuc-bad bug/difference. Ok. So then ill try to hover with mouse video i just speed up lenght in Premiere. Hovering gives in, out point times and total time of clips leght. Right? Maybe.. couse if i put that lenght in Audidiotion as desired legnght, clicked save and ctrl+s alt+f4 and see in Premiere.. THEN IS SOMEHOW A LOT SHORTER THEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.
In Idiotion i can change time settings and none helps.
In PremiProion i can change to audio time and that isnt corrent also.
Even just opening audio in Audition from Premiere without speed up they show whatever you change a different times.

Clip with Video/Audio i put in Premiere
    Divided
Video clip right click replace with After Effect composition.
and what i do in premiere doesnt matter couse lenght i ckeck in Premiere hovering over other example video (to see the lenght witch to write in desired Audition speed up couse in audition 115% speedup is speedown for any illogical reason)
So Original ivdeo/audiot i speed up to see leght hovering with mouse over
BUT in Audition it shows ( i dont care what it shows i just need to put correct value in percentage in Audition but since that also doesnt work i need to know correct leght)
SO how long video i need?
In premiere audio original leght witch is now open in audition
    OR in speedup settings
LOL WUT? Different duration bug also and doesnt change ANYTHING couse differences allways were for one clip- too long for other too short when using times from premiere.
SO 115 % eh? If we dont look then all is fine and i dont care what is in premiere in end and i dont need to read that duration is now too long. I would automatically just save export and then in hollywood only see something was wrong with this premieridiotion software but not my assumtions.
Ok since i saw that 115% in premiere now turnet too long..
I check whats wrong for some time. Then i try all again slow and i see there duration.
Ok i enter duration witch we now check in premiere (where else?, the clip is shortened in premiere)
    AND NOW ITS TOO SHORT
Heres time settings. NONE SHOW EXACT LENGHT OF AUDIO SAME AS IN PREMIERE
SO what are time FPS in Premiere? Whats the difference? Shouldnt they work at least on some standarts?
ps. also adding to bug of ****** Premiere audio speed up and solution bugs in Audition, here another bug- YOU CANT ENTER THIS CUSTOM FPS SPEED AS I SEE IN PREMIERE IT WANTS TO WORK WITH AUTOMATICALLY 24,81 fps
AND WHY WOULDNT THEY BE AUTOMATICALLY SYNCHRONIZED if audio is LINKED TO PREMIERE???

  • I can't open AA 3 ! Anybody help me !

    Hi everybody !
Now I’m using  an "Old" Toshiba Laptop Satellite !  It includes :
    -  Adobe Audition 3.0
    -  Soundcard Realtex onboard
    - Window Vista Home Basic, Dual Core,  1 GB Ram, 80 GB HDD
AA is already installed but… when I open Audition.  A message box appears and says :
"Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device…. Please check your device settings."
I’ve opened Control Panel and checked the default Sound playback & recording device, and they are tottaly fine, not thing’s wrong…Other program such as WMP, Winamp run normally, just only AA.
I’ve tried to install the ASIO4ALL Ver. 2.9. When I opened it, a message appears and says :
“A version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re you are running”. It advises that I should use another Window Vista Version such as Vista 32bit, 64bit,…
I have a small Home Studio, recording drums kit, guitar,...I and my brothers wanna make some videos (post onto youtube) to teach everybody who wants to learn how to play drum, guitar, play games... but this is a big trouble, I can't solve this hard solution !
    I don’t know what to do ! I need some help !
I really thanks who have helped me.

Again have you tried the Audition 3.0.1 patch?
Maybe try disabling sound in Vista under the control panel. Then try ASIO4ALL again and make sure that your audio card is selected...
If you can get sound in other applications then you should be able to get sound in Audition.  You may need to close other applications (like iTunes etc.) before Audition can use the card, but that would no doubt be a bug if Audition was being blocked from seeing the card completely.  If ASIO4ALL can see the card and the card is enabled (green lights) for at least output then ASIO4ALL should always work with Audition.
There have been cases on one brand of computer I've used where the onboard audio would somehow become disabled in the BIOS when there were no speakers connected to the output and the computer was then turned on.  The onboard audio would then remain disabled even after restart or cold boot and so you would have to go into the BIOS setup screen to enable the on-board audio.  But if you do get sound from other applications then this wouldn't be your problem.
As for remoting into the computer...

  • JDeveloper Line Compiler and Generics

Hello all. Well it's great to finally have a fully Java 6 compatible JDeveloper. I have run into a problem with
generics however. Consider the following code:
    public class MyMessageFactory
public static <Type extends MyMessageType> Type getInstance()
    Type rtnObj;
    // some code
    return rtnObj;
where MyMessageType is defined as an abstract class:
    public abstract class MyMessageType
So far everything is good. When I refer to the above method in another class however, the line compiler complains that I am
    equating to an incompatible type:
    MyMessageImpl myMessageImpl = MyMessageFactory.getInstance();
When I use NetBeans or Eclipse I do not get this error. However the JDeveloper line compiler forces me to use a cast:
    MyMessageImpl myMessageImpl = (MyMessageImpl)MyMessageFactory.getInstance();
Anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong here?

What is wrong is that there is a bug in Audit and also in the OJC compiler. Sorry about that. I filed bugs to have this fixed.
Please use the cast to avoid the bugs.

  • Compressor AC3 encoding error!

When I encoded my 2Hour,53Minutes 6 Channel Wave file in compressor 2, the length of the final 5.1 AC3 file (448 Kbps)for DVD is 28 Minutes only!
    Why ?
Is there any length limit in compressor?
Any one faced this problem before?
    Please advice me!
    Thanks & regards

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4)   Duel 2.8 Ghz, 2.5 GB, 250 GB.

    Hi
Yesterday I came to know that the actual problem was not in compressor, but that was in Adobe Audition, in which I created the 6 Channel WAV file.
When I exported the 6 channel wave (16 bit, 48 KHz) from a Stereo source wave (16 bit, 48 KHz, and its length is 153 Minutes) in Audition, the file size shown was 4.9GB and 28 Minutes in length!
I tried to export the same as 6 individual mono wave files. This time the total file(6 mono wave files) size is also 4.9 GB but the length is '153 Minutes'.
I think, there is a bug in Audition, where it handles the size and length of a 6 channel Wave!
    regards

  • AA3, changing tempo in Edit mode.

    Hello everyone.
I've been using AA3 for quite some time. I generally prefer to use FL Studio to work with recordings, but since Edison (FL Studio's equivalent to Audition's Edit Mode) if very poorly made, I prefer to use Audition to edit samples and recordings. When I record something like, an acoustic guitar, sometimes the recordings are a bit out of perfect timing, and I always like to have recordings perfect. So, what I would like to do is go into audition's edit mode and manually move around the notes myself. This seems to sometimes work well, if a note is a bit late, I delete the extra space. If it's a bit early, I copy a little bit of the dead space behind it, paste it, and am good to go. It's time consuming, but in the end, it syncs up perfectly with the VSTs I use, since computers are never really off timing. But, this doesn't seem to work when I want to change the tempo. For example, I recorded a song at 70 BPMs. So, I loaded the song into edit mode. Whoops! The tempo must be off. So, I go into multitrack mode, change it from what it's at to 70, go back and... there's no difference. From my understanding, BPM stands for beats per minute, and a beat isn't a constant in the equation, the minute is. Therefore, the distance between two beat should change when adjust the tempo. Only being able to work and edit in one tempo is very constricting, so I can't imagine that the people at adobe/cool edit pro would have done this on purpose. Is there a way around the tempo in edit mode being seemingly stuck at whatever figure it's at? Thanks for the help, I really need to get this recording done soon!

I'm somewhat confused now. You're telling me that the little ruler at the bottom of edit mode that says BMP ### (Where ### stands for the number set in multitrack view) that has all of the tickers is simply there for show? That would be like Photoshop having a ruler set to 72ppi, without the user being able to change it. If the document was in 300ppi, the ruler would not change, and the measurements would be off (of course, it would erroneously read 72ppi, as Audition erroneously reads the tempo set in multitrack view). Forunately, I found the answer that I had been seeking elsewhere. It appears that there is a small bug in Audition that when you change the tempo in Multitrack View, it changes the number displayed on the ruler in Edit View, but not the distance between the "ticks" giving it an inaccurate reading. To fix this, one must right-click the ruler, and adjust the tempo right there where it says "Edit Tempo...". I feel foolish that I didn't see this myself, but I've never needed to right-click the ruler until now. The reason I posted this was to help anyone else who couldn't find the answer, so they didn't have to deal with anyone on a high-horse who really didn't know the answer, or hardly read the question enough to understand it, but answered anyway with a quick and defeating answer that might quickly gain them points. I'm not naming names, but some people (not naming names) did come off a bit strong. But perhaps that's entirely deliberate...

  • How to load files on G external? (SpeedGrade sees files)

I downloaded lesson files for Audition onto an external G drive. These files (after un-zip) are not shown in the Audtion Media Browser. I got around this by making a folder on C for the lessons I needed. However, in the future I would like to store Audition files on the G drive. SpeedGrade sees the files on G fine. Is this a bug in Audition, or a problem with my configuration? I have both my HPENVY Quad laptop connected to the G drive and my MacPro (2007 vintage) connected to the G. I have not used both the Mac and the ENVY at the same time to connect to the G external drive.

Get a second external drive, drag both the iTunes library and the pictures to it, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, and point it to that instance of the library. This also works with iPhoto, but see below.
A drive or partition needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended in order to hold an iPhoto library or for Time Machine to back it up.

  • Audition Track Delete Bug?

I think I've found a bug in CS6. Whenever I delete a bus track that has previously had sends applied to it, Audition crashes. This occurs even after removing all the sends. Anyone else experience this? Is there a workaround?
EDIT: I should clarify that the bus track didn't have sends on the bus track -- the sends were sent to the bus track from other tracks.

    Hi Manny,

I am looking for someone to confirm a bug for me before I submit a bug report.
In Audition CS6 when trying to use automatic speech alignment it does not seem possible to produce a result unless checking a "add aligned clip to a new track" option. In other words audition will not modify a track that I want to be changed even after running through the alignment procedure. If I choose "Add aligned clip..." it will make a new track and it will be aligne
    d. If this is by design why to have a new track option? If this is by design how do I do successful roundtrip with PPRO?

If you do not choose to add the aligned clip to a new track, Audition will simply add the new file to the Files Panel. When the process completes, look at the Files Panel to find the newly created asset.
From here you can then save the new file to the format of your choice and then import that into Premiere.
If you do choose to add the file to a new track, you can then choose Multitrack > Export to Premiere Pro to continue the roundtrip process.
