Recreate Image in CS4

I'm tasked with having to recreate this image as vector art. Live Trace
seems to choke on the complexity of the image resulting in lack of detail.
It would seem to take forever to draw each individual piece, but may be the only way to maintain the accuracy.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can recreate this in a painless, and efficient way?
Thanks in advance!

Are you just looking at the Live Trace default preset, or did you look at the other presets, or better yet the options for handling Live Trace in a custom fashion? Look on the control panel for the presets, and then the custom setup is a little icon right next to them.

  • How can I add a PSD logo watermark file to an image in CS4 or Lightroom3?

    Hi,
I have a psd file with my company logo as a watermark. How can I add that file to an image in CS4 or Lightroom3. I am sure it is really simple and I am just a bit dopey but would appreciate the help.
    Thanks.
    Natalie

This is fully explained in the help file. Hit F1 and go to using the watermark editor, you will see there is is also a video tutorial so I won't repeat the advice here.
You will need to change the PSD to a PNG in order to use it and retain any transparency layers. Open the file in Photoshop and choose save for web, then select either the PNG 8 or PNG 24 preset and save a copy of the file.

  • Extra white space around image in CS4

Hi - We are planning to migrate from Indesign server CS3 to CS4. In order to make sure that the existing templates, created out of CS3 works out of CS4, we were doing some testing with indds created out of CS3. We export the output as jpeg at 300 dpi. The output image running in CS3 server was 3060 x 2160, but the image from CS4 has 3600 x 2700. Can anyone explain us here, if there is some setting that needs to be changed to use indd's out of CS3? if not, pls advice us on what is going wrong here. This is urgent!!
Thanks and let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

Does this outline appear if converting to PDF or other format and then printing? What if you save it as a Photoshop EPS and let Photoshop create the TIFF... does the map still print with a white line?
If the problem is map related, you might ask in the CartoTalk forum:

  • Blend two images in CS4

Hi, after taking two images of a landscape, one exposed for the foreground and another exposed for the sky. How do I open them each in a seperate layer so I can blend the two together. Giving me a correctly exposed image of foreground and sky. I dont want to do HDR just blend two images. I use CS4.
I should mention I use Aperture to manage my images and edit with CS4 by migrating the image from within Aperture....Many thanks for any help......Gerry

    Thanks for replying
When I open two images in CS4 then try to drag one of them into the other document, it just opens up the second image as a new seperate background...I can switch between the two, but theyre seperate. I'd like to open the second image in the same layer as the first so I can brush the correctly exposed sky onto the overexposed sky.
Iv'e only used CS4 for editing images in the past so I am new to this technique of blending. My issue is I dont know how to open the two images I want to merge / blend ? so I can brush away the unwanted parts of the image....revealing the parts of the correctly exposed sky that I want to keep...
A pointer to a tutorial would be appreciated...
    Hope I'm explaining myself ok

  • Cropping rasterized images in CS4

I have a rastorized image in CS4 that I want to crop.  I'm instructed by OBJECT>CROP AREA to use the rectangle tool to define the crop area.  So I do this, and then what?  How do I actually crop to the rectangle-defined region?  Anyone?

I'm catching up with my correspondence.  If I haven't replied to an email from you, thanks greatly for your knowledge.  Somehow there's a way to award points, but I can't find it and will rely on what are hopefully automatic points for a "correct" solution.

  • Image Processor CS4 Cannot batch process from psd to jpg ERROR MSG

I have been receiving the error message "Sorry, I could not processes the following files:" when ever I try to change DNG or PSD files to jpg in camera raw.  It does not matter if I try this with one file or 100. I am running CS4 on a Mac OSX 10.5.8.  I have enough memory, have cleared trash, purged cache....I don't know what to do to make this run correctly.  Please help!

Thank you for responding and yes, I would be more than happy to elaborate.
In Bridge I normally change my images from psd or dng using the following steps:
    Tools
    Photoshop
    Image Processor
change to jpg with a quality of 10
This has always worked in the past on CS3 and worked a few times once I upgraded to CS4.
I can do one image or a number of images.  I started receiving the error message stated above
    when doing these steps.
I have purged Bridge cache, have memory on system...startup disks are not full.
I cannot figure out why I keep getting this message or how to fix it.

  • Can't Open JPG images in CS4

I reformated my computer a few days ago, and I have not had time to install all the programs I have used.
My digital camera is Kodak and it came with the software that I could edit my pictures.   However, I never use it for editting, for I use photoshop.  I decided not to install the Kodak software, but just use USB to transfer digital pictures to the computer.  When I open the USB drive, the pictures are transferred and ca be viewed in Windows image viewer.  The file names are short like 00001, 00002, something like that.    However, when I attempt to open these pictures taken from the digital camera in photoshop, the file names become long with brackets.  The photoshop says that the files are not in the right format, so they cannot be opened.
Same thing with the pictures taken from my new cell phone.  The phone takes picture in jpg only format.  When I connect the USB to transfer the pictures to the computer, I can view the pictures in Windows images.  The file name is preset to "image001, image002, and etc."  However, when I open the photoshop CS4 and then attempt to open the same pictures, the file names become very long with brackets.  Photoshop says that the pictures cannot be open with their formats.
What can I do to open picture files taken from my digital camera and phone in photoshop directly?
    Thanks

Something you installed is trying to translate the image format and alter the files.
You'll have to track down what you did install that could be doing something that evil.

  • Error opening images in CS4

    Hello,
i've installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 on my computer with other apps, such as Adobe Bridge CS4, Adobe Extension Manager CS4 and others.
It runs normally, but when i would open an image file (any type) or PSD it freezes for a few seconds and then it shows me an error message "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working". My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and my graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce 7025 (drivers updated to the newest version). Where's the problem???
    Best regards,
    Mish0

Is the latest driver current for that card?  Latest might not be good enough if nVidia has dropped it out of support.
You could try disabling the OpenGL Drawing setting in Edit - Preferences - Performance.  If that works around the problem, and if nVidia isn't actively releasing new drivers, you may need to get a new video card.

  • CS2 crashes when trying to load image AFTER CS4 trial

I just recently used the CS4 Extended trial (which worked fine).  It's 30 days ended and I sadly went back to my purchased copy of CS2 (actually own the whole Prodcution Studio Premium).
Now when I try it, Photoshop CS2 loads fine, but then hangs whenever I try to load ANY image.  It even displays the thumbnails correctly.  Just freezes and then gives the "Not responding" error after a few more seconds when I actually try to click on any picture.
I uninstalled CS4 -still happened.  I uninstalled CS2 and reloaded the whole suite.  Same thing.  I then uninstalled it again and then manually deleted all the files I could physically find, reinstalled it.  Same thing.
    I am going mad!!
I am running the whole thing on Vista 64 Home Premium with 8 gigs.  (And everything worked FINE before the trial, and yes, I tried with and without all the latest CS2 patches AND tried running it in Windows XP SP2 compatability mode already -although it worked fine before without it.)
    Any thoughts from anyone?
    Randy

I have hundred of dollars worth of software sitting useless on 5 DVD's next to me because "CS2 is no longer supported".
    It never was on Vista!
I sympathise with your situation however, and you do seem to have tried everything that might help.
Your conclusion that uninstalling the CS4 trial took CS2 with it is wrong unless you ignored warnings about shared files.
Your concept of activation is wrong too. Activation counters can be reset by Adobe if they get an explanation.
There may be a way out of this but you might find it less hassle in the long run to reformat and start from scratch.
On the other hand, since you are are only just in the upgrade window, you might consider upgrading to a version designed for Vista

  • Why is a color print from CS5 so different from the same image in CS4?

I have made prints from the same file using CS4 and CS5, and the prints from CS4  are showing what I think is good color.  My monitor is calibrated, and I have always been quite happy with prints from CS4.  When I make prints of the same files using CS5, the color is terrible compared to the CS4  print.  I am using the same printer, same sRGB color space and all the settings in the "Print" dialog windows.  I make sure the Color Handling box is set to "Photoshop Manages Colors" and I then go to the "Page Setup" box and make sure Color Settings is set to Off (No Color Adjustments).  I am using a New MacPro Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB ram.  I did notice that Apple Software Update did install Epson drivers after I installed CS5 Creative Suite 5 Design Premium. The color using CS5 looks the same starting in either 32 bit or in 64 bit.   Another thing I notice is that printing on an Epson 2200 Stylus and using their 13x19 paper that the prints are being cropped to 5/8 inch into the full screen size of the images. I.E. The prints are losing 5/8 inch of what I see on the 30" Apple monitor. in both dimensions of the screen image. This cropping effect is showing now using CS4 and CS5.  I have "Position" checked for Center Image, and Scale to Fit Media is also checked.  I've been using PS since version 2 and have always been quite happy with the prints from my Epson printers and the prints from my Photo Lab, but the prints I am getting using CS5 are terrible. All the settings are the same in both the CS4 and CS5 "PRINT" windows.
    HELP!!!!  :-)

I have tried all of these things. I have checked and double-checked the print dialog. Sheet after sheet of paper goes by. Ink, at $40 per tank, is wasted. Results are still wrong. I followed your video. You use an Epson printer. I use an HP. Different print dialogs. different results. Whatever worked in previous PS versions does not work now. PS CS5 requires new settings to get the results that match what was determined by years of evolution and fine-tuning.
I set up all of those print dialog parameters but it required an adjustment layer or two to get the results I got using previous Photoshop. So I could do that with every image I printed with good results using previous versions. There is nothing out of gamut in these images, so I don't have unrealistic expectations about more saturation in the prints. Anyway, it's an 8-color printer that can handle a pretty wide gamut compared to a 4-color.
Wade, I know you are trying to help but this finger-wagging "error in your ways" and "you need to change your ways" stuff is patronizing. I did "change my ways" and try everything in your video. All was not well on the paper. I'm glad it worked out for you but it didn't for me. Accept it. I'm not some novice hobbyist still getting the hang of Photoshop. I've been using Photoshop since version 2. Adobe changed something in CS5. I haven't seen Chis Cox or any Adobe staffer jump into this discussion and say otherwise. Maybe there are no answers from the folks who should know the most about it. Maybe they're working on it.
It's not the first time Adobe has broken a tool. Anyone remember what happened to Outline Stroke in Illustrator CS2? It had previously made a path that could be edited by selecting points but after CS2, it was broken. Illustrator made a filled path that was nearly impossible to edit with all of the overlapping points. It was finally fixed in CS4. It's hard to understand how a useful tool that functioned properly in every version since it was introduced became an unusable mess. Maybe that's the case with PS CS5 and printing.
With 4,300+ posts in 14 months, maybe Wade has more time to tinker and tell us about it. I don't.
Or I could just print in CS4. At this point it's not that important to spend several days of testing to be able to say that CS5 can print my legacy stuff that was created and printed with various color profiles over a 12 year period. Maybe a more disciplined approach to color management would be a good way to work in the future when creating images, I'm dealing with tried-and-true printable images that were not done that way.
As long as Adobe doesn't make me give up CS4 to use CS5, I'll use it for printing.

  • Inserting table background images [was: CS4 DW]

    Dear all,
I've have trouble inserting the background images in a cell of a table. When I was using CS3 I had the options of selecting BG color or image, as well as choosing the border color.
Right now in CS4 I can't even insert one in a cell, only color bg, and also editing the font size, color, type..
    Can anyone advise?
    Z

CSS code uses a different syntax than HTML code.
With CSS you can use a background-color: #FFF or a background-image (URL).  This can point to an absolute URL:
    background: url (http:yoursite.com/images/bg-image.jpg)
or to an image in your  DW local site folder:
    background: url (some-folder-in-your-local-site/image.jpg)

  • Print part of image in CS4?

I recently upgraded from CS3, and I seem to have lost the ability to print part of an image.
I'm sure that in CS3, if you tried to print an image that was larger than the paper, you got a warning saying it would be cropped, but you could still move the image in the print preview to get the part you wanted. How do I do this in CS4, without cropping?

You can still do this in CS4.
In the Print dialog,  Center Image and Scale to Fit Media must both be unchecked, and Bounding Box must be checked.
Then you can slide the image around in the preview window as much as you like.
You can also drag the corners of the bounding box in the preview to manually scale the image.
Unfortunately, many printers will not print an image that extends past the printable area. If this is the case, you'll be able to go past the warning message, but the page will probably come out blank. If you can set your printer to print bleeds, then you can probably print the portion of the image that falls within the printable area.
(I was also going to explain how to set a pre-sized selection and then print just the selected area, but the "print selected" checkbox in the print dialog seems to be broken at the moment. So here's a pretty useful work-around that you may need to use if bleeds are a problem.)
    1. Select the Crop tool (C / Shift-C) and enter the width and height of your printer's printable area. You can enter "8.27 in" or "2750 px" etc. If you don't know your printer's official printable area, just allow about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of border (e.g., 8 in x 10.5 in for letter size).
    2. Then, in the settings bar, enter a reasonable pixels per inch for your printer (300 should work fine) in the Resolution field.
    3. Then drag the crop marquee over your image and position or size it as you like. Because the Width and Height are not blank, the crop area will retain the correct proportions. Note that whatever size crop area you create, the crop operation scales that portion of your image to the specified Width and Height.
    4. Then press Enter or Return or click the big checkbox on the settings bar. Don't save your document!
    5. Print the cropped document as usual, and after the print dialog closes, press Ctrl-Z (Command-Z) or choose Edit / Step Backwards to undo the crop.

  • Annotated Images in CS4 Allowing Text Flow

For those who might have followed the discussion this week about creating images with callouts (annotated images), I have a second solution. The first one showed the ease of accomplishing this challenge by finally using a separate text frame to place the image, thereby not allowing automatic text reflow. The second solution described here allows text reflow.
First, and Peter G.. will like this, I do now understand how to create a Topic Title paragraph style using settings for Paragraph Rules instead of using a one-cell table. Cool, Peter! A caveat here: I actually created two versions of this paragraph style: first one as a bit of space below it for next style, Body Text, or whatever style my template users might need, e.g., List Bullet; second version jumps 5 inches for space below to accomate space for annotated image.
To create the annotated image, I still had to do so on "blank space,"-- grabbed the bottom of the text frame that covers the entire page and moved it up below my Topic Heading. Created the annotated image in the same way as discussed previously (left it with no defined object style, except for callouts, grouped all elements and locked it down).
However, this time after grouping all the elements (callouts, lines, image), I cut it to clipboard, dragged the text frame for the page back down to the bottom, inserted cursor (Text tool) at tag following Topic Heading and pasted image in. Then I went to the Anchored Objects Options dialog box and made a few changes. (I have a screen shot of that if anyone wants it.) After moving the annotated image to best spot, created a new object style, including changes in the Stroke and Stroke & Corner Options categories. You have to do that otherwise after applying new object style, you'll lose your strokes that attach the callouts to the image.
Finally, was able to pick up and type the remaining text (a set of indented list bullets) below the annotated image. While this second method takes more time, I will be insisting that my team learn both methods so they can choose the correct solution for the particular documentation that they are developing.
If curious, here's what the final page that allows text reflow looks like:
    Enjoy!
    Lizbeth
PS Where again do we put requests for changes to ID? Honestly, I think that with all the keyboard shortcuts available, we should have one for inserting an anchored object. Now you have to select Object>Anchored Object>Insert, and then go through all the adjustments.

Nope, the area of where I click makes no difference.
I think there is either a bug in CS4 or I have a preference not set correctly in CS4.
I recorded my screen to illustrate what's going on in CS3 vs. CS4.
This video illustrates the process in CS3:
    http://www.atundra.com/TEST/CS3/index.html
You'll see that it flows text into my master text boxes as its supposed to do. (Well almost, you can see CS3 bug that someone mentioned about having a random text box created. This has never been a problem, as you just delete that box and everything reflows into the other boxes)
Here is the video of me doing the exact same thing in CS4.
    http://www.atundra.com/TEST/CS4/index.html
You can see clearly that CS4 is generating new text boxes on its own and not using my text box set up on the master page.
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    This is very frustrating.

  • Opening PhotoCD images in CS4

I have a few old PhotoCDs I'd like to import into Lightroom or open into Photoshop. CS4 does not have that option in the normal "open" box. I did some Internet searches on the topic and one said Adobe included the command as a Goodie in CS3.
I put my original CS4 disk in the DVD drive and got the option to install Photoshop, I didn't click OK fearing it would immediately start overwriting the current install.
So, here are a couple of questions:
    1. Is there a Goodie in CS4 to load that will allow me to open old PhotoCD images?
    2. If so, when I start the "Install Photoshop" command on the DVD, will I get a seconadary screen allowing me to pick goodies to add?
    3. If I have a CD with lots of PhotoCD files, it there a quick and easy way to download all of them as a batch?
All things considered, I'd probably only really need the command to be able to open or import a single file off a CD. I have one of the Corel Mega Collections of Images and I seem to recall them being photo CDs.
    Thanks,
    M. Jackson

    Hello all,
I think I found all the info I need with the help of this forum and the "related posts" on the right of the screen after I posted the question.
According to one of the threads, the old plug-in in CS3 still works in CS4, so I pulled out the old disks and found the plugin in the Goodies folder and followed the instructions in the ReadMe file. I now have PCD in my Open list.
I'll try it out on one of the disks on my desk.
The Corel Collection 1 consisted of roughly 100 CDs. I doubt I'd ever want to convert all of them, but I'd hate to totally loose access to the files on them.
It would be nice if Adobe would go ahead and include the plug-in for all future releases, even if most responses have stated it is a dead file format.
    Thanks again to all,
    M. Jackson

  • Images in CS4 are Brighter than LR 2.4

I'm using both CS4 and Lightroom 2.4 on a Mac with an external (calibrated) monitor. Images opened in CS4 are significantly brighter than the same ones in Lightroom. What could cause this?
    Thanks

There is a bug in CS4 that causes PS to use the wrong profile on external displays in certain circumstances. You can test whether this is the problem by disabling the OpenGL acceleration. To do this, go to Preferences->performance and disable the openGL checkbox. If this fixes it, check in the advanced checkbox whether color matching is enabled and if not, enable it and reenable openGL acceleration. This bug doesn't always show up and for some reason it has not been fixed yet even though Adobe is well aware of it.
Lastly, you indeed need to calibrate both your screens with a calibrator, but you already knew that I am sure. LUT based profiles have some minor issues (most notably shadow posterization) in Lightroom as the other poster noted but you are unlikely to notice it.
