Recreate iTunes in new user account

Can anyone point me to directions for moving my iTunes playlists, etc. to a new user account? When I search, everything is about moving to a new computer, which is not really working. I think I may be missing a key step in the process.

Is it an authorization error or a permissions error?
A computer is authorized for an iTunes account and all accounts on that computer are authorized. You do not need to do them separately.
Make sure the user account you moved it to has full Read/Write permissions for the iTunes folder.
In the Finder, *Get Info* on the iTunes folder.
Make sure you have Read/Write permissions and click the gear and select *Apply to enclosed items*.

• Setting Up a New User Account - iTunes issue

My wife and I were both using our Mac as a single user, but logging into iTunes under separate iTunes accounts to download our own music and apps.
This week I set up a new User Account in her name, and transferred all music and apps to her User Account so she would be able to access and sync on her own account, just by fast switching, rather than logging into iTunes each visit.
When she plugs her phone into the iMac to sync via iTunes, she gets the following message:
*iTunes could not sync information to the iPhone " " because another sync client is already running*.
Anyone had this problem and found a solution ?

I recently had this same error message problem with my 3GS. Here's everything I did, one of the steps solved the problem...
1. Restarted with the phone unattached.
2. Repaired permissions using Disk Utility.
3. Restarted the phone. Here's where I had some difficulty: After swiping to confirm the shutdown, the screen went black, and I had the spinning icon that wouldn't go away. I ended up having to hold the lock and home buttons down to force shutdown the phone. I powered it back up, and it took forever to start, but it eventually did. I then power-cycled it one more time, and everything was back to normal.
4. Started up iTunes. Go into the preferences, and under the "Devices" tab, I found my previous backup. I deleted it.
5. Plugged in the phone, and everything was normal. iTunes made a new backup, so the sync took awhile, but it was successful.
Good luck!

• How to move iTunes library to new user account?

My primary user account on my Mac (I'm the only user but I have an admin account just incase my 1 account ever gets corrupt or something) was operating very slowly and messed up an external hard drive among other problems so I made a new user account which seems to be operating more smoothly. I've tried to trouble shoot the problems with the old user account but it took a lot less time to just make a new user account. Anyway, I tried copying over my entire iTunes from older user account to new user account. When I open iTunes in the new user account, I changed the iTunes folder location in preferences and then restarted iTunes. None of my playlists or media were showing up in iTunes. I tried importing the XML file by doing FILE > ADD TO LIBRARY. I also tried draging the .it file to iTunes. No luck. Any ideas?! I was able to copy my library back to the old account and have everything there but the new account doesn't import all my media/metdata/playlists. I don't want to re-import my whole library again because I will lose some of the meta-data like play count, ratings, etc. I've looked at a lot of guides online with no luck.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

If you put the entire iTunes folder in the exact same location as it was in your other account it should have opened up intact. There should be no need to change the media file location preferences since this has nothing to do with iTunes looking for your library file which is what it uses to locate everything else. iTunes will automatically look for the library file in the default location in whatever account is used to invoke iTunes.
An issue that might arise would be permissions not being set correctly on the files, but then I would have expected iTunes to complain clearly about that.

• How to move an old iTunes folder into a new user account?

Hi there, so I have a 98Gb iTunes library and it was sitting on an older version of an iMac (2006 OSX 10.6.8 iTunes 11.4). Realised it would be cumbersome to transfer to my newer iMac (2014 - OSX 10.9.5 iTunes 12.1.2.27) so I used the migration assistant to transfer everything across. Only problem is now I have 2 user accounts for myself on the new iMac and all I want to do is consolidate my iTunes library into one, but am struggling to move the iTunes folder directly into the newer user account on the new iMac. I keep getting a "you do not have permission to move this". I've tried both passwords to each account but still it won't move the folder. Any suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated.

Were you saying that you have two user accounts (one one the old Mac and one on the new Mac) or two Apple IDs with your music?
Read the original post. The user used Migration Assistant to copy files from an old computer to a new one. This creates a new computer account with the old content. The user then had two accounts on the new computer with content the user wished to merge.

• ITunes does not launch with new User Account (Vista)

One of my limited user accounts on Windows Vista because corrupt, so I created a new limited User Account and copied ALL of the files from the old to new.
Now, when I try to launch itunes on the new user account, it will not open at all. Itunes works on my administrative account, with no problem.
Can someone tell me the most pain-free way to resolve this issue. And, whatever solution, will I be at risk of losing my itunes libraries?
Thank you in advance.

Hiya. Delayed again. Browsers being cranky. (I blame the aftershocks.)
It's actually plausible that it was installed in there (by doing a run as administrator on the installer itunes64setup.exe, perhaps). Because that suggests a possible cause for these continual permissions-related problems.
A lot of what you're seeing is consistent with damaged ACLs (access control lists) on files, folders and registry keys. Although it's a lot rarer than it used to be, one of the ways you could get borked ACLs was if a program (like iTunes or QuickTime) was installed in one user account, and then the user account it had been installed in was deleted (or otherwise rendered unusable).
We don't know which particular permissions are stuffed up here. But there's a shotgun approach to fixing them which used to work okay, although it's a bit fiddlier to do on a 64-bit system than a 32-bit system.
I'd strongly recommend setting up a system restore point prior to doing this, so you can revert if things turn to custard.
The basic technique you follow is from the following blog entry *with one important modification.*
[Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions|http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-e rrors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx]
The modification is that when you're editing the file to replace YOURUSERNAME with the name of the account, edit the first line so that %ProgramFiles% instead says %ProgramFiles(x86)% and after the line that reads:
*subinacl /subdirectories %programfiles%\ /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=e >> %temp%\subinacl_output.txt*
... add another line saying:
*subinacl /subdirectories %programfiles(x86)%\ /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=e >> %temp%\subinacl_output.txt*
(The first is to make sure the commands see the subinacl, because it installs in \Program Files (x86)\ on 64-bit systems, and the second alteration is to make sure that the permissions for the 32-bit program files are fixed too.
After doing that (it'll take a while to run), can itunes launch normally in the new account?

but cannot do this because I cannot access Mac App Store
If you can't access the App Store from the Apple menu, Dock, or Applications folder installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo will reinstall the App Store for you.
It's ok to do this even you are already running v10.6.8.

• Moving itunes content when creating new user account

Recently added two iphones to our rapidly growing apple family of devices. Our imac was originally set up with just one main user account the whole family shared. The problem I have is with sharing, syncing, merging with my iphone all family shared information. For example, the contact list on the shared family mac is huge and includes many "x-mas card only people" that I will never need to call. Same with shared calendar. If make some quick notes or reminders on my calendar just for me, it replicates on to everyones device. The guy at the apple store suggested I should have my own account. I have done that and am now seeing the limitations OSX puts on different accounts as it seeks to protect each account. An example here is trying to share and use our iphoto library. My goal is to have itunes in my new , separate account that syncs to my own contact list (won't change back to the full family list every time I sync), has just the apps I want (not my daughters 300 apps that seem to keep re-appearing on my phone), still be able to sync to the family calendar but maybe have one of my own as well, have my own playlists from itunes 9I was able to find a way to access the big family music library in my account) and be able to build iphoto albums to sync.
I think problems stem from a lack of understanding the basics of what separate "accounts" really can and can't do as it relates to different applications and devices.
Thanks for any help!

Drag \Music\iTunes folder to \Users\Shared.
Log in to the new user account and copy \Users\Shared\iTunes to \Music\iTunes.

• Created New User Account but iTunes Still Crossing Over.

I just purchased a nano for my boyfriend and I created a new user account on my PC so the iTunes for his nano will not interfere with the iTunes for my mini. After I created his account and logged on I noticed that the icon for iTunes for my mini is already on his desktop. Deleting the iTunes on his account will cause the iTunes to be deleted from my account and I will be forced to start from square one. Why can't the iTunes for the mini stay within my account?!?!?! Should I go ahead and install the nano software??

After I created his account and logged on I noticed that the icon for iTunes for my mini is already on his desktop.
If you double-click this icon, do the items in your iTunes library show up? Unless you've moved the iTunes library to a shared location, the contents of the library should not show up in a different account, but the iTunes icon and application itself will.
Why can't the iTunes for the mini stay within my account?!?!?!
The iTunes application is available to all accounts on the machine, but the iTunes library is specific to one account unless you've moved the library to a shared area and told the iTunes application where to find it.
Should I go ahead and install the nano software??
Only if the version of iTunes and the iPod updater on the iPod nano's CD are newer than the version currently on your computer.

• New user account on iMac and now no music in iTunes.

I created a new user account on my imac because my husbands music kept showing up on my Itunes. When I opened up Itunes on the new user name, there was no music in my library. I signed in with my Itunes account. Why is the music that i paid for not there?

Because it's in your other account where it was purchased originally. Now you have a new account. There is nothing in the iTunes Library until you put it there.
iTunes- How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
iTunes- How to share music and video
iTunes- Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Sharing Stuff From Different iTunes Accounts (or Computers)
Here's how to do so using different computers:
Transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library on each computer. To transfer content from your library to another library do the following. We'll assume this is between husband and wife separate accounts and different Apple IDs.
Launch iTunes under your wife's login;
Sign her out of iTunes, then you sign in;
Select iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices -> Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected;
Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC;
Select Store -> Authorize this Computer (only have to do this once);
Select File -> Transfer Purchases (all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library);
When complete eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
This way you can share content (permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same on your computer if you want to share content from your wife's library.
Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

• New user account created when transferring iTunes

Ive just succeeded in transferring my active iTunes from my XP PC to my Mac Book using Migration Assistant however, it has been placed in a new User Account. I don't really want another User Account and so need to know if there is anyway I can merge the User Accounts so that I can use my main iTunes account in my main User Account?

See especially step 9 of "Use Migration Assistant after your Mac has started up" here:

• Cannot log in to new user accounts

I am a long time Apple user and am completely confounded by a problem I am having creating new user accounts on my G4/400 PowerMac running OX 10.4.11. I've been attempting to setup some user accounts for my kids to use. I have no problems setting up the accounts but when I log out of mine and try to log in as them the login window shakes from side to side indicating an incorrect password. This is something that I had a problem a year ago and never solved and today I am trying once again with out success. I feel like I am doing everything correctly since I've been able to do this on my G3 iBook and MacBook.
Here are a few things I've also done.
-repaired permissions on the drive ( I have 2 in the machine right now but the other is just my iTunes LIbrary drive)
-deleted the old user accounts that I setup but couldn't access.
-tried setting up more new accounts
-repeated the process several times without ever being able to successfully login to any of the new accounts that I created.
Any advice to solve this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Hi cc_mac,
I don't know if you have solved this one yet, but I had exactly the same issue when I recently had a hard drive failure and had to re-install everything. I had copies of all my files, but when I went to set up the user accounts, I could create each account, but I couldn't log in.
There is a simple solution, you will need to be in an admin account and you will need to use the command line, so open up a terminal window.
Use the following command for each account you need to fix:
sudo passwd <username>
where <username> is the account name that you cannot currently log in to.
You will need to enter your admin password to allow you to use sudo, so do that. Then you will be asked to type in the new password for the new account. Just to be absolutely sure, you will be asked to re-enter the new password, so do that, and you are done.
Log out of your admin account, this should bring you back to the log in screen. Now, if everything has gone according to plan, you should have an operational user account.
I'm not sure what the cause of this issue is but it might be some sort of permissions issue happening in the background. Nevertheless, manually setting the password this way seems to have fixed it for me. I sincerely hope this helps you too.
Kind Regards,
Mark D.

• Can i use a 2nd iphone if i install itunes on another user account.when i tried to create a second library i messed up both phones, the second one now has all my contacts and when it sends txts it either says its my other phone or email address

can i use a 2nd iphone if i install itunes on another user account.when i tried to create a second library i messed up both phones, the second one now has all my contacts and when it sends txts it either says its my other phone or email address. i can cope with the first phone and getting it back on itunes but dont want to syn the 2nd phone until i know it is independant of the other one. Does it matter that both phones use the same itunes store account?

Deleting the account on your phone only removes if from your phone. The account and it's data remain intact and doing so will not effect your daughter's phone.
To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn any synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off, and when prompted, choose to keep the data on the phone. When finished, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Then set up a new iCloud account with a different Apple ID and turn any data you want to sync with iCloud (contact, calendars, etc.) back to On. This will upload your data to your new iCloud account.

• How do I create a new user account?

I have a new iPod with a different iTunes account than my other devices. How do I sync the iPod on my iMac with the songs/movies from its own iTunes account? Do I need to create a new user profle on the computer for that?

As you said, I recommend to create a new user account and create a new iTunes library on that user with the content of the iPod. If you sync it with your user account, you will get on the iPod the content from a different Apple ID and maybe content that you don't want.
To create a new user account, open System Preferences > Users & Groups, and press the + button that it's below the left sidebar (where users are listed). Then, just follow the steps to set up the user account.
Now, every time you start your Mac, OS X will ask you the user account you want to start OS X with
