Recreating iTunes music library every time I open iTunes

I'm hoping someone can help me. I downloaded iTunes, moved my music over, and have moved songs over to my Ipod nano. Here's the problem: every time I close and reopen iTunes, it automatically imports a new library, then gives me the error message that the library is damaged and had to be recreated.
I have rebuilt the library according to the FAQ (delete old library, and import again), but this doesn't seem to help. I'm also losing my playlists.
This is becoming a real pain, and I can't seem to find any discussion as to what might be wrong. Any suggestions?
BTW, I'm on a PC (XP operating system) , and I downloaded the most recent iTunes.

This might help http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=8014328&stqc=true

  • Damaged Music Library (every time I open iTunes)

I am having trouble with my iTunes music library continually getting damaged. At first iTunes 6 started having trouble after upgrading my system to Tiger. I then did a new clean install on my system (including iTunes) because I was also having other problems with the upgrade to Tiger. I was still occasionally finding a damaged library that iTunes could not open and thought the upgrade to iTunes 7.0.1 might help. It didn't, in fact, now every time I open iTunes my music library is damaged and I have to rebuild it. I have a large library 12.6 MB and I have added lots of artwork manually. A friend suggested that some of the art work could be to blame but I don't know how to figure out if that is the cause and if so which ones. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Given that this problem goes back to v6 and even earlier with the install of Yiger, I would recommend that you check your HD as this could be the first sign of trouble.
Insert the Tiger DVD that you used to install, and restart the machine using it and run Disk Utility from there to check the HD.

My Ipod touch plays music but every time I open an app that I have downloaded it closes immediately.  This started happening after updating to the latest version of Ipod software.

Here's a couple things to try:
    1. Reset the iPod by holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
    2. Uninstall and reinstall one of your purchased apps. Sometimes this can rectify the issue.
    3. Connect the iPod to iTunes and restore it. New system software usually resolves the issue. Make sure you sync before restoring because a restore removes the data from your iPod.
Hope one of these works for you!

  • Why does iphoto 11 tell me to update library every time i open it?

why does iphoto 11 tell me to update library every time i open it?
    iPhoto '11 OSX 10.8.5
I open iphoto and I get the message
"the Photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
I click upgrade and after a few seconds the photos show fine, the application works correctly.
then I quit the app. and reopen and i get the same message and the same results.
this was happening before I did a complete erase of the Macbook Pro and install of Mt Lion
    upgraded from lion.
only thing thats the same is the computer and the library I restored.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Aperture is asking to upgrade library every time I open the application, even after it has already been upgraded.  I just ran the update and it is still not fixed.  What can I do???

Aperture is asking to upgrade library every time I open the application, even after it has already been upgraded.  I just ran the update and it is still not fixed.  What can I do???  My plug are asking me to re-register them too.  This is annoying.  Please help!!!!!

How do you try to start the repair dialogue? By starting Aperture or by opening the Library?
If you not already have tried it with directly opening the library:
reveal your Aperture Library in the Finder
Whilst holding down Command(⌘)- option (⌥) double click on the Aperture Library.
Select "repair library" from the dialogue.
What about Frank Caggiano's questions above?
It would be really helpful to know, how many libraries you have, and if this problem is restricted to one of them.

  • Why is iTunes 11.1 asking me to create a new library every time I open it?

Every time I open iTunes 11.1 I have to load my library file manually...it does not just open automatically.  It asks if I want to create a new library or load a previous library each time I open the application.   I fixed permissions on my hard drive but it does not seem to help.  Also, Safari is acting strange...when I click on a link in a page it downloads the HTML file instead of opening the new link.  Lots of quirky stuff happening!  Had to restore my HD last night from Time Machine...still acting weird.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.

  • Make iTunes choose library every time it opens?

I'm familiar with the option key method to have iTunes let you choose between different libraries when it opens, but I want to find out if there is any way to force iTunes to always ask this every time it opens.  I have two, one that is connected to my external drive and the other is strictly music on my macbook.  The problem is that I forget sometimes to close iTunes when leaving home or work, or I forget to hold down option when I open it.
I've looked everywhere in preferences with no luck and searched the forums but apparently I'm the only person that wants to do this.
Can anybody suggest a method that could automatically include the option key function when iTunes opens every time?
    Thanks!

Just to clarify the above, I say "I have two".  I'm referring to two iTunes Libraries.  That's probably obvious but just want to make sure.

  • Music plays every time I open a new tab. New problem. Nothing stops it. HELP!

This is something that just started and it's driving me crazy. Every time I open a new tab, irritating music starts to play. I have done all the other solutions I saw, including installing and then disabling CoolPreview, which I never had to start with. I have done a complete system scan and no malware was found. don't know what is causing this but I want it to end. I have not added any new add-ons or extensions. It sounds like cheesy video game music or PCH music. Any ideas?

I found out what was happening!
ginabgood1 mentioned music from PCH, I, foolishly, signed up with them too (then unsubscribed because they were sending me TONS of "entries" constantly) and it was after that I had this problem.
Even though there was not a link to them on my new tab page the music would play every time I opened a new tab.
What I did was start deleting the links at the bottom right of the page, I eventually had a PCH link page show up and deleted it. The music has now stopped playing whenever I open a new tab.

  • Itunes re-matches (syncs) entire library every time I open iTunes

I get a complete resync everytime which takes hours and slows my entire Mac.  Having read a few suggestions I have:
Checked if songs are "waiting" to sync or have an error.  All seems fine.  All mathed, uploaded or duplicates.
Rebuilt the itunes library.  By essentialy reimporting everything as a play list (as instructed in a support article)
It keeps doing it and it makes it unuseable.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Files that contain the .itl file extension are database files that are used by the iTunes media software application. These files are used by the iTunes software to organize the music files in a user's iTunes music library. The ITL file contains a log of the songs in the user's iTunes library as well as the user's playlists, any comments the user may have created for a particular track and the user's song ratings.
While the ITL file does reference the song's on a user's hard drive, it does not contain any actual media data in and of itself.
There for match needs to scan the individual files.
Uploaded tracks do not use up storage space Specifically for IOS devices!! You can access/ stream from non IOS devices i.e. computers
Icloud Status column shows tracks have been "matched", "purchased", "uploaded", "duplicate", "Error", "Waiting", "Removed" or "inelligible". It does not have a cloud with a line through it. Symbols are used in the icloud download column.
Turning off match is not a solution unless you no longer want to use match. First step is to see if problem can be solved.
Yes match can help for a hard drive failure but this does not remove the need to have adequate backups.

  • Why does it update my library every time I open iTunes up???

  • HT204406 Does iTunes match have to look for all music on my computer and send that data to and from Apple every time I open iTunes? This frequently makes iTunes crash before I even get to listen to one song. Installing the latest version of iTunes does no

Does iTunes have to check all my music for match every time I open iTunes even when nothing has changed in the music folder?  This is just one problem I have with iTunes and match.  Every time I open iTunes, the first thing happening is iTunes checking my music and sending the information to Apple and then waiting for Apple to send back information about match. There is a third step that I have never seen iTunes actually reach as it always crashes before finishing this ritual with my music and match.  Since I paid for match I can no longer use iTunes to listen to any of my music. I like having match function on my iPhone because even 128 GB is not enough space to keep a music library and everything else needed on the iPhone.  But it's been a disaster with iTunes on my Windows 7 PC. I updated iTunes recently and the same problem continues.  I can't find any clear description of how match works but it seems if there has been no change to the music folder then the tedious and buggy process of checking all music for match and sending data back and forth to Apple every time iTunes is used should not be necessary.  Is there possibly something I have to change settings for to help iTunes start without so much to do?

If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • ITunes match tries to match my library every time iTunes is opened.

iTunes match tries to match my library every time iTunes is opened.  This is on a Windows 8 PC.  So, every singe time I open iTunes, it tries to match the entire library even though it is all matched.  This takes up most of my internet bandwidth or whatever so basically I can't do anything else online while this is going on so, basically I can't use itunes. I tunes match works great on my iPad, iPhone etc.  And the library has been matched because all of my music pulls up on the iPad and iPhone fine.
Is there a way to set iTunes so that it will not automatically try to match every time I open it?
    Thannks!

That's probably it - "Never Register". I never had the problem, so never saw the message
There's no need to register iPods in iTunes, according to this article:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
    *+Do I need to authorize my iPods?+*
+No, you do not need to authorize your iPods. Your purchased music needs to be authorized on your computer before you copy it to your iPod. For more information on copying and playing your purchased music on your iPod, check out our iPod FAQ.+

  • For some strange reason the songs in my library are multiplying. For example, I really only have 4,000 songs but every time I open itunes I have 6,8,10,000 songs! Any one else have this problem.  How do I stop that from happening?

For some strange reason the songs in my library are multiplying. For example, I really only have 4,000 songs but every time I open itunes I have 6,8,10,000 songs! Any one else have this problem.  How do I stop that from happening?  I keep having to delete my library!

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing! I am desperate to get access to my itunes to get music on my phone and all of this just makes me want me to sell my iphone since there is no other way to add music to my phone. If things go get sorted soon you can say goodbye to my support.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Re-syncs same 4000 items every time I open Itunes....

I am having this issue every time I open itunes. There are about 4000 items that sync every time I open itunes. They are the same songs and podcasts. Why won't these items just stay on the ATV?
Also, I have songs in my itunes library that I transfered to an external drive that are no longer on my laptop, so my question is, how can I "update" my library to notice just the music files on my laptop harddrive without deleting each song one-by-one?
    Thank You

This isn't usual behaviour, it indicates you may have issues on your network or computer that is causing this.

As you are probably aware the choice of tunes for syncing is not done item by item but rather by playlists or everything, you might try using some smart playlists to include only the music you want.
