Rectangle box to guide?

Hi guys,
1 - I download a template for a DVD case, it was interesting that some rectangles boxes in the template were actually guides. I checked in the Layers Pannel and that box say Guides. So how do you make a guide with a rectangle shape?
2 - I am regular user of InDesign and love the keyboard shortcut to toggle between open document ⌘+ > but in Illustrator it will not acept that modification from the keyboard shortcut list. Strange they are both Adobe software.

Yes, but from different centruries. Check, whether you are allowing system shortcuts and then also check AI's internal shortcut settings. Still, maybe something you can't have...

Lookup expression is not working when I am using with in the rectangle box in SSRS

I have two datasets with common member is ProgramID.
I have followed the below steps,
1. Added one table (2x2) and mapped this table to dataset1. After that I have removed top row.
That means I am maintaing only data row.
2. Added group to the table (ProgramID). Now the programid is sitting at cell#(1,1) and cell#(1,2) is blank
3. I have verified the report with preview and able to see the data for my all programs. I have 5 programs
4. my plan is adding chart and matrix reports to cell# (1,2). If I am adding chart/matrix to the cell#(1,2) then we can't contol the cell alignments in terms of height x width.
To resolve that problem, I have added one rectangle control to the cell#(1,2) then I have added my chart and matrix report
5. After completing the report, I have verified with preview and able to see the reports (chart/matrix) for all my 5 programs by page wise (note: I have provided page break before for my rectangle)
6. Till this point, I have no issues
7. Now, I have added one more row under the group. so, we have our main table (2x2). Becuase of programId group we can only see 3 cells in total table (cell# (1,1) =ProgramId cell#(1,2)=chart and matix reports under rectangle box; cell#(2,1)=already
merged with ProgramID group; cell#(2,2)= planned to add one more rectanlge and add two reports (chart and matrix)
8. Now, i have added rectangle to cell#(2,2) then added chart and matrix reports within the rectangle.
9. cell#(2,2) reports are needs to extract the data from dataset-2. Here we have common member is ProgramID (ds-1,ds-2)
10. First I have tested for matrix report by adding lookup expression
      Matrix report (2x2)
     row-1: Cell(1,1)= Gender report heading ; cell(1,2)=Month (column group)
     Note: month is also common member in both the datasets.
     row-2: cell(2,1)-- =Lookup(Programid.value, Programid.value,Gender.value,"Dataset2") (Gender data is Male and Female)
                Cell(2,2) -- empty for now
11. I have tried to preview the report and able to see the report without any issues and below are observations
        main Table (2 x2)
         Cell# (1,1) = ProgramID --Returning all 5 programs properly
         Cell# (1,2) = Dataset1 related report (chart and matrix reports under rectangle) -- able to see without any issues
         Cell#(2,1) = We already know this is merged cell. i.e menas ProgramID dispalying
          Cell#(2,2)= Only Male record is dispalying in the matrix report which is under rectanlge (here we have applied Lookup expression.
Note: male is the first record from the database and Female is the second record
Also, observed that Cell#(2,2) matrix report is unable to display the gender count information when I have provided count value expression in the cell(2,2) within the matrix and the expression I have uses is
= sum(Lookup(ProgramId.value,ProgramId.value,GenderCOunt.value,"Dataset2"))
Please ask me if I am unable to explain or lengthy explain.
Point : Why the lookup expression is giving the first record only (in case of gender #(male, female) and why it is unable to give the gendercount. Gendercount cell is totally blank.

I have tested the issue step by step by following you description, while the first issue works well in my local environment. Based on my research, this can be caused by the lookup expression or it indeed return Male value based on the logic. If you use the
expression below, it will indeed only return the Male record. So please try to double-check the record in the two datasets and the expression in your environment:
=lookup(first(Fields!ProgramID.Value,"DataSet1"),Fields!ProgramID.Value,Fields!Gender.Value,"DataSet2")
As to the second issue, please try to use the following expression:
=Count(Lookup(fields!ProgramID.value,fields!ProgramID.value,fields!Gender.value,"DataSet2"))
Besides, if this issue still exist, in order to trouble shoot this issue more efficiently, could you please post both the .rdl file with all the size properties to us by the following E-mail address? It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

Win3.1) to 32 bit apps(Forms on WinNT).For this migration i made
a form for generation all the form in one shot . it's working
fine. but it's giving me scroll bar in each form. we used
rectangle box in most of the form and as u know i can not reffer
rectangle box in programming.so i am not able to resize that. Is
there any way so that i can refer that object programatically and
can resize it.

Newbie HELP-Rectangle Box

I'm new to InDesign. The guy who used to take care of our company phone book in InDesign left. I know very little about this software. It's been days of trial and error, but am making progress. I've got the phone book to almost where I want it (I think), but can not figure out how to get rid of the rectangle box outline around text. I created the box by selecting the rectangle icon off the toolbar on the left, however I don't want the outline around the text I put in it. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I'm an AS400 systems admin, not a graphic designer, so learning this stuff has been like learning another language

Choose View > Hide Frame Edges. Does the outline go away? If there's still an outline (called a "stroke" in InDesign) around the frame, select the frame and use the Stroke panel to set the Weight back to 0. If you need to do this for a bunch of frames, your work will go faster if you use object styles.
It sounds like you used the Rectangle tool to drag an object, and then you inserted text into that object. That's fine, but you should just use the Type tool to create text frames. You'll end up saving yourself some time in the long run by watching a few basic videos. See the Getting Started in InDesign Help topic.

Rectangle box in designer lovs and in deski report where there is apostroph

I have came across two issues with same scenario.
Customer is using Sybase Adaptive server 12.5 when he is seeing rectangle box in designer lovs and in deski report where there is apostrophie.
The apostrophie is of different kind, the normal one in our keyboard shows correctly.
In bo 6.5 it was showing correctly, I found that when I use odbc connection it works fine but when I use Adaptive server client for creating a connection it shows junk character for those LOV's.
I have compared the sbo and prm files of odbc and sybase and also of 6.5 and XIR2 but not found any peculiar difference relating to it.
Can somebody help in this.
For eg.

and
CHILDREN'S = this works fine

I have Indesign CS6. Question is about the rectangle box on the left side.

The rectangle/box with the X through it, on the left in the second column, does not have the X through it anymore and now when I set up something to place in that section there is no X there either. So I kept doing my thing as usual because it was still working, but when I printed it out the outline shows up where before the X was and there was no outline that showed up. I do not know what I hit or did to change this.

There are two, similar-looking, tools in the toolbox. The ones with the X are image frame tools and expect image content by default. These do not have stroke or fill applied when created, no matter what settings might be set as defaults.
The ones without the X are the Shape tools, and by default they expect no content, but you can place anything into them if they are empty. They will have whatever stroke and fill are set by default when created.

A rectangle box with four options, Restart,Sleep,Cancel and Shut Down appears some times when I boot up, how can I stop this from happening?

Copying text from excel table in PDF, pastes rectangle boxes into other programs.

Adobe acrobat X Std.
I have a PDF file with text, graphics and an excel table in it.
I add comments to the PDF file and reprint it to a new PDF file.
In the new file I cannot select text from the excel table and paste it into anything.
When I paste into word or other programs I get rectangle boxes.
If I go to the original PDF I the text copies just fine.
Any ideas would be great.

Unless you're doing something special here (I'm not too sure what you mean by 'may not cover the background image'), I don't think you need an 'effect'.
Try this:

I want to create super-precise crop boxes. Can I create crop boxes from guides?

I am looking to make extremely precise crop boxes. I would like to position four guides in the shape of a rectangle and then create a crop box of that rectangle. Does Acrobat Pro include this functionality? Is there some other way I could achieve the same result?
I know that I can fine tune the margins in the Set Page Boxes window until the crop lines are perfectly aligned with the guides but that is very time-consuming and I was looking for a faster solution.

Thanks for the reply, Bill. I have already tried the snap to grid option. The problem with it is that the grid lines most likely will not be where my guide lines will be. Now if Acrobat Pro had a snap to guides option then that would help, but it doesn't, as far as I'm aware.

Text Box Inset Guides

InDesign CS4 does't seem to show Text Box Inset margins as guides when text box is selected just once with Selection Tool (i.e not dble-clicked to edit text). The Inset values can be discerned through opening up Text Frame Options dialogue box, but within CS2 they would be viewable as guides (which helped with exact alignment) when Text Box was selected once. Note: when Text Box is dragged to new position they appear momentarily whilst being dragged - not much use! Any help much appreciated.

I made a text frame there. I put insets of 5mm in there.
I can see the insets. But when i go to the type tool the inset preview disappears.
I ctrl click to move the frame and they temporarily appear. But once the type tool is active in the frame the inset preview is gone.

Photo boxes and guides

I am creating my own layouts. (I'm inserting all the photo and text boxes.) I know how to set the photo box aspect and ratio as well as alignment. I know how to use the shift key to resize and maintain the ratios. I also have been using the guides to align photo and text boxes to each other and to the edges of the page. The guides are extremely helpful.
What I don't know how to do is resize a photo box and use the guides at the same time. I can move a photo box and it'll "click" to guides, but when I am resizing the box I can easily go beyond where the guides would be. In other words, I can align two sides of the photo box, but then not the third. I hope this makes sense.

I just created background images in photoshop to use as my grid/guide. A lot easier of a reference tool, just don't forget to delete them before sending it to print!
