Rectangle marquee keeps converting to a rounded rectangle marquee!

Help! I have been using Photoshop CS2 on my G4 PowerBook for years without problems. Starting today, every time I try to use the rectangle selection marquee, it keeps on converting to a rounded rectangle selection marquee when I release the mouse. I tried resetting all tool presets, quitting then restarting Photoshop, rebooting the computer, and trashing all the Photoshop preferences files, and nothing worked. When I edit an image in Image Ready, the standard rectangle selection marquee works fine, but once I go back into Photoshop, the rounded selection marquee comes back. Can someone please help me get my standard rectangle selection marquee back? Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for the prompt replies. Along the lines of resetting preferences, I first tried Options > Reset All Tools without effect. Then I tried Options > Reset Tool Presets, and Voila!, no more rounded rectangle marquee!! Problem solved!! Thank you very much for steering me in the right direction.

If you're using the Desktop Viewer ot preview your AN content, some stuff (such as rounded rectangles) isn't supported in their version of Webkit. For true rendering make sure to always test on your iPad

.mp4 keeps converting to .mov (how to stop?)

How can I keep .mp4 from converting to a .mov when I drop it in pages? I have all my media as .mp4, however when I drop it in mac pages, they convert to a .mov. The delima: iTunes Producer doesn't allow .mov

It has Assistive Touch active. Don't freak out!
Connect your iPod to iTunes, click on iPod" and scroll down to Accessibility". Disable everything and click Apply.
If it doesn't work, connect it and click Restore original, then next, update and restore.

Why does my RGB colour palette keep converting to CMYK, even though my document setup is RGB?

I have been sent some icons from another department in my company. They used the CMYK colour palette and saved the files as eps. I'm now traying to transfer these designs into my own document - new and setup as RGB. I've noticed now that it has converted back to CMYK.
I have created another blank document (RGB) and tested the two palettes side by side and they work just fine, but when I copy and paste the graphics it converts everything to CMYK.

Yep you're right that they are always global, I forgot that option isn't available when it is spot - so I'm not sure why you asked.
Yes I know that spot can be any colour mode - that's why I have the two colour palettes.
These have always worked perfectly before as spot and they make working with them much quicker and easier (usually), so I'm not sure why you think they don't make sense.

BigDecimal: how to keep 2 fraction digits, round up.

To calculate money amount, we need to have 2 fraction digits.
For example,
8888.567 --> 8888.57
99998888.865 ---> 99998888.87
0.982 --> 0.98
for method round(MathContext), the mathContext specifies total number of digits, not fraction digits.
The workaround we have to use:
amount.divide(new BigDecimal("1"), 2, RoundingMode.HALF_UP);
what is the right way to achieve 2 fraction digits/half-UP?

When handling money you are better off not using decimals. You can either create your own Money class which has 2 variables: dollars and cents. Or use ints for all calculations and then simply divide by 100 when you want to display. So one dollar fifty is int of 150 and not double of 1.5.

Help!!! 100% - K Black keeps converting to process color.

I am working on a job that want all blacks to be 100% K. I converted my file to CMYK and in preferences changed the appearance of black to "display all blacks accurately". However, every time I check my blacks, it doesn't hold the color I have defined and has converted them back to C 60%, M 90%. Can you tell me what setting to change so that it stops doing this? Please note that I am not exporting them they are just instantly converting to the process CMYK.

How did you convert the file to CMYK? The best way is to open a new file in CMYK mode, select all in the original file and copy/paste into the new file. Then make your changes to 100%K.

My english text keeps converting to Asian characters in any search box or URL!

Every time I type something in any search engine text box, such as Yahoo, or any time I try to type a URL address, the characters will automatically convert to Asian characters as soon as I hit the space bar. This is really aggravating. I need to turn off all Asian characters and I don't know how it got turned on.

I suggest you disable ALL plugins (not extensions, plugins), restart firefox, enable them again, and restart Firefox again. I hear some plugins (namely Real Player plugin or something like that) may cause this kind of problem.
If that doesn't help, please say so and we'll look at it in detail.

My Word Files Keep Converting to Music Files when I email

Home page I select keeps converting to searchqu or something

When I close and then open Firefox, it is no longer remembering the home page which I select in internet options. There is a drop box in options which I can set my home page. I have done this numerous times but when Firefox starts it always replaces it with a search page to start.
Firefox didn't used to do this. Is this a change that was put in place with some upgrade that I downloaded or is it an add-on?

On Pages my imported pics keep coming up as a grey envelope saying placeholder how do i keep the photo file as it is when i have imported it. Some pics stay as they are

I am creating a Pages document with pictures inserted into the script. Some pictures are fine but some keep converting to a grey envelope that says placeholder. When saving the document a little box comes up with a list of images that cannot be saved.
The pictures are photos of freehand drawings which have then been cropped and adjusted within the editing of iphoto.
Any ideas as to how to change the placeholder back to the image please.

How can I stop Flattening from converting to ICC color?

Our new printer requires PDFs to be submitted as PDF version 1.3 (Acrobat 4). In order to use this setting when we "Save as optimized" we must choose the "Transparency" flattening setting. But every option I've tried for flattening keeps converting the colors to ICC profiles, and the printer also refuses to accept files with ICC profile colors. I can't find any place to select this or not select it as an option, but every option within the Transparency dialog seems to result in ICC profiles. How do I save a flattened PDF from Acrobat without converting the colors to ICC? (These are files submitted by advertisers to our publication, so I have no control over the creation of the original PDF. I just need to re-save these in a format which Quad Graphics will accept, which means flattened and at PDF version 1.3)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something. DeviceCMYK or even "none" still result in ICC colors when I preflight the file afterwards. I can't find any setting for flattening the file that doesn't also somehow convert colors. Is there any way to flatten the PDF and have it leave the colors completely untouched? Or maybe some way to re-save the file after flattening to strip the ICC profiles back out of the document? I suspect I might be doing something "wrong" that can be fixed somehow.
If I convert text to outline I can open the file in Illustrator and just re-save it, and all the ICC warnings go away. What might Illustrator be doing that Acrobat isn't? I can go through this workaround if necessary, but I prefer to do this in a single step from within Acrobat, without getting extra applications involved, if at all possible.

Convert Large Binary File to Large ASCI File

Hello, I need some suggestions on how to convert a large binary file > 200MB to an ASCI File. I have a program that streams data to disk in binary format and now I would like to either add to my application or create a new app if necessary. Here is what I want to do:
Open the Binary File
Read a portion of the File into an array
Convert the array to ASCI
Save the array to a file
Go back and read more binary data
Convert the array to ASCI
Append the array to the ASCI file
Keep converting until the end of the binary file.
I should say that the binary data is 32-bits and I do need to parse the data; bits 0-11, bits 12-23, and bits 31-28, but I can figure that out later. The problem I see is that the file will be very large, perhaps even greater than 1GB and I don't have a clue how to read a portion of the file and come back and read another portion and then stop at the end of the file. I hope to save the data in a spreadsheet. If anyone has some experience with a similiar situation I'd appreciate any input or example code.

Date entered as DD/MM/YYYY converts to MM.DD.YYYY

Hi all.
I'm creating a Webdynpro Abap application. In this application, there is a date input field. All our users have the date format set to DD.MM.YYYY, so when the date is displayed, it's in this format.
However, when a user enters a date using "/" instead of "." , the system takes it as if the user was using MM/DD/YYYY format, and converts the values that way.
Example:
User enters 01.02.09 -> This is stored as 20090201
User enters 01/02/09 -> This is stored as 20090102
User enters 15/02/09 -> User gets error "invalid date" (since 15 is processed as month)
You can see that day and month changes places if you use "/".
I have asked SAP and they said this is normal, since the only valid formats are DD.MM.YYYY and MM/DD/YYYY.
So, does anybody know a way to prevent this conversion? A user-exit or BADI could be useful..

It does not help either.. WDA keeps converting 1/2/3 to 20030102.
I have found my own solution: I have created a conversion exit to modify the user entry before the system processes it, and in the conversion exit, I replaced all .-/ characters with user's valid date separator. Then the system does the rest.
e.g. if a user enters 1/2/3, I convert this to "1.2.3", then call cl_abap_datfm=>conv_date_ext_to_int. It becomes 20030201, which is what I want..

Thanks for the info. I am actually using the Squared5 mpeg decoder. I followed the directions for the fix, but it still gives my the mpeg-2 error. I have tried the freeware "Quicktime Alternative 181" from the apple website and with that, eitrher my itunes will work fully and the Squared5 will not, or if I un-install itunes, the Squared5 will work fully. It's like when one will, the other won't. I never had this problem before, did Apple change something that makes Squared-5 not compatible ???
I really do not want to sound cheap, times are tough for me and I am trying to do this fix as inexpensive as possible,
If I buy the 19.99 MPEG-2 playback component, I want to be sure that it is going to work, since you can't get refunds from Apple.
Since I am new to this, could you let me know what steps I need to do to do this in the right order????

Data load from BW converting but rejecting

We are loading data from BW to BPC via the data manager package LoadInfoprovider selections with validated transformation and conversion files. When we load the data (any selection), the data converts correctly (giving an acceptable accept count and no rejected records) but then fails at the LOAD_INFOPROVIDER stage:
Task name CONVERT:
No 1 Round:
Reject count: 0
Record count: 17
Skip count: 0
Accept count: 17
Task name LOAD INFOPROVIDER:
Aggregate count: 16
Submit count: 0
Reject count: 1
model: AIACONS. Package status: WARNING
Checking the rejected records, they are valid records and I've checked further in excel. Has anyone encountered this or have any idea how to debug it as it gives me absolutely no indication as to why they have been rejected?
I have SAP_ALL so it isn't a security issue. The UJFS logs are completely blank (rejected list and rejected data).

Vadim, yep, you can see the rejected records. I trimmed down the selection so it would just show 17 records and there was nothing at the bottom to suggest what the issue would be. It is creating the correct records but then rejecting them?
Patrick, the rejected records look correct (I would post an example and will, but our server's down for maintenance), with no blanks. To make things simple, I even hardcoded all the incoming values (using *str()) and the record was still rejected.
