Rectangle Tool Issues

Im probably overlooking something simple, but when I try to draw a rectangle Flash is automatically applying a corner radius. I've tried resetting the options in the Properties Inspector, which resets to the default, but soon as a draw a shape it goes right back to a random radius. Any Help?

In CS4, both can have rounded corners. Use the Properties tab to adjust (set to 0 for square corners). The primitive rectangle will allow you to make changes after it has been drawn, but with the rectangle tool, you must adjust the settings before it is drawn.

Issues with Rectangle tool

Hello,
I am having an issue. I have created three pie chart grahics with some text and boxes. Everything was created in Muse, except for the three piecharts, which are PNGs. I created a colored box (using the rectangle tool) and placed it behind the content. When I view as a preview (as well as preview in browser), two of the graphics look fine but the first one, is a couple of pixles shorter in height. I am attaching a screen shot of the MUSE workspace and the preview screen shot for comparrison. Each on of the green rectangle "containers" should be 600 px in height, but when I inspect the element in the broswer, the first "container"'s height is 594px and the other two "containers" heights are 599px each. How is it possible for the first "container" to lose 6px in height and the other two to lose a px each in height?
Can someone please help me with this? As a designer with little coding knowlege, I really love the potential of MUSE, but it's these little "quirks" that eat of my time and really aren't cost effective to my project budgets and timelines.

Photoshop cs4 rectangle tool error

I am using photoshop cs4. In my cs4, rectangle tool having a problem see this image

I see no problem. These are simply high-contrast antialiasing issues based on your choice of colors affecting how a) the human eye perceives this stuff and b) it messes with things like compression on a technical level. It's really just a bad design decision and simple things like e.g. adding a hint of subtle outer glow or "dirtying" up your colors with a bit of black will easily resolve this.

I am getting an error message when I try to use the rectangle tool.

This just started today, I use an HP lap top with windows 8, I just downloaded Photoshop in January. Every time I use the rectangle tool I get this message: "Could not use the rectangle tool because of a program error." how do I figure out, and fix, the error.

We need to know exactly what version of Photoshop you are using. There are two versions of Photoshop CC as well as CS6 still available, and it makes a difference.
We need to know a bit about your hardware. You say it is an HP, but what is the model number? How much memory (RAM) does it have, for instance. An easy way to pass on that information would be to open Photoshop and go Help > System info > Copy and paste it into this thread along with your other answers.
Has the rectangle tool ever worked?
Have you had any other issues?
What have you tried by way of a fix? It's OK if asking here was your first step.

The variety tools within the type tool, rectangle tool, pencil tool, etc. etc are not opening in my CS4 Illustrator

I recently re-installed my CS4 and am trying to reacquaint myself with the various applications.
Where I was previously able to access the various tool options, i.e. under the Text Tool, Rectangle Tool, Pencil Tool, etc. they are not opening now.
Any suggestions out there as to what could be the problem?

Are you saying that they do not fly out when you ClickHold hovering over the main tools (that is the Illy way)?
If that be the case, you may start looking at the list, maybe going straight to 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Illustrator rectangle tool only drawing tilted rectangles and squares?

Help! I opened Illustrator this morning and out of no where the rectangle tool went rogue.
I have never had this issue and do not see a problem with the view (i.e. perspective grid).
What could have happened? How do i fix this?

Rectangle Tool not working properly.

I am having the issue when I am attempting to create a Rectangle. Please keep in mind that this is not a Rounded Rectangle.
As I drag it out to make the object bigger, the corners automatically start rounding. I am using Windows 8 if that has anything to do with it.
If more information is needed, I will, somehow, provide that information.

Weird! Have you checked the Roundness setting in the Properties panel (with a rectangle or the Rectangle tool selected)? If the units are set to %, any small amount of rounding will become more noticeable at larger sizes. (Likewise, a small pixel amount could become scaled upon transformation if the Scale Attributes option has been selected.) But it shouldn't start spontaneously rounding—which sounds like what you're describing. Are you at least able to adjust the roundness after the fact, using the Properties panel?

How can I change the frame around a title created with the Rectangle Tool?

In PrE 7, I have been creating titles (e.g.: Title > New Title > Default Still, etc.) for a long time and using the many ways to manipulate the text (type, color, size, animation, etc.). Today, I tried to use the Rectangle Tool (or the Ellipse Tool, or the Line Tool) and they created a beautiful 'frame' (like a picture frame: artistically designed and colored) and I can change the background color within the frame and place any text (also background picture, etc.) in it. However, I couldn't find any way to change the 'frame' or the general style of these title objects. Is there any way to do this, or this is the only design that can be created with these tools? I would greatly appreciate any help (couldn't find any in this u2u site). Thanks, Laci.

Yes, you can apply Styles to several Rectangles (or other Shapes), to simulate a "frame." The Styles should appear as Text in the Styles Panel. Since you are working with Shapes, but viewing the Styles applied to Text, it is not perfectly intuitive as to what those Styles look like with the Shapes.
Personally, I find that doing things like "frames" in Photoshop and then Importing the PSD's into PrE is far, far easier. In that case, I would place the PSD on Video Track 1 (unless I wanted it to appear superimposed over my Video (like a PiP), and then do the text in a PrE Title, and place it above the PSD.
Here is an example:
This is a simple "picture frame" created in PS. I used a still image, instead of text in this case. These could be "wood-grained," "granite," etc.
Much more control and tons of Effects and Filters that can be applied.

Can I place a (Rectangle Tool) container filled with an image in an (Accordion) widget and make it clickable?

Is it possible to use the Rectangle Tool to create a container, fill the container with a graphic image, place the container and image in an Accordion widget space and make the container clickable to open and close the Accordion?
I've done this but the container isn't clickable, only the other areas of the Accordion window are. Can this be done?

You can use the image as fill for label of accordion which will open the container on click.
If this does not answer your question then please provide me an example where I can see what exactly you are trying to achieve.

How do I get the rectangle tool to draw in the color I've selected?

I'm quite new to indesign, so bear with me.
I've selected a color with the eyedropper tool, and once I am about to draw using the rectangle tool, the color switches to grayscale. How do I change this?

Re-sizing a shape - Rectangle tool

I am using the rectangle tool to make a table for a docuement I am making in Illustrator CS6.
I am like 99.9999999% sure that in the past I have been able to drag out both sides or enlarge a whole shape (rectagle tool) with the select tool. I don't want to move each corner one by one with the direct select tool (think of how you enlarge shapes in like Micosoft Word by dragging out one corner). I feel like I probably have some setting turned off that is preventing me from this easy re-sizing. Any help is much apprecaiated, this is driving me nuts!

That just duplicated the shape.
Not if you select the object and then drag from the centre of the side (the (black) arrow turns into two small opposite arrows when you are there, even without the Smart Guides who just say path). It is true that if you hold Alt/Option when dragging from anywhere else, you duplicate.
The 99.9999999% showed that you had had it working before, so I knew you knew about the centre had it been the Alt/Option you were thinking of.

Can't get over the tools issue when re-installing Elements 11

I've been using Elements 11 on Windows Vista (64) with no problems.
One day, instead of starting Elements, I got the message to re-install Elements for some tools issue. So I uninstalled but re-install never got through. When it comes to the Organizer section, it won't pass some tool issue again.
ASA did not fix the problem. When I manually search the logfiles under installers, I find myself drowning in millions of errors.
Stuff like this:

Yorengl the DW063 error indicates then inability to write to those specific directories. Problem rotating rectangle (selecting corners) after creating with rectangle tool in illustrator

I'm using the latest CC version of Illustrator. When I draw a rectangle using the rectangle tool, I no longer seem to be able to select the corners to resize the rectangle nor does the cursor turn to a rotate icon when I put the mouse just outside the corner. I know that Ai CC treats rectangles differently now, with the live rectangles and the rounded corner options, and the transform box opening automatically. What I'm wondering, and hoping isn't the case, is whether this is this at the expense of being able to go right in and resize using the just the mouse? I know that there is the "Object > Shape > Expand" option, but having to do that for every time I draw a rectangle is time-consuming and adds and extra step that was unnecessary before. I saw a tutorial on Lynda where the instructor drew a live rectangle in CC AND was still able to resize it by grabbing the corner "handle". Anyone know if this is just a setting I need to turn on or something similarly easy, or is it a case of Adobe inadvertently making the workflow longer when trying to make it easier? And yes, I have "show bounding box" selected under VIEW.

I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks) or 10.10 (Yosemite). Hopefully, the bug will be fixed soon.
So a switch to Mavericks or Yosemite with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool or the Free Transform Tool.
A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

Free Plain Rectangle Tool

Adobe®, in its AI CC2014 version, has introduced a new tool called the Live Rectangle. This is a really great feature but has its huuuuge limitation: it doesn’t snap to grids, points and objects correctly on resize!
Since we don’t know whether adobe is going to fix this and since there is no option to replace the Live Rectangle with the classic one (plain) by default, I’ve decided to write my own plugin (available for free for personal and commercial use) which imitates behavior of the ‘old’ Rectangle Tool. It doesn’t replace the Live Rectangle – it works completely independent!
My Plain Rectangle Tool correctly snaps to grids/objects/points and correctly aligns to grid/points on resize. Of course it supports the SHIFT and ALT/OPTION keys, Snap to Grid and Smart Guides options. In other words it works almost 100% the same as the Rectangle Tool we know from CC (17.1), CS6 and earlier.
The installation package (zxp) adds ‘Plain Rectangle Tool’ icon into the Ai panel (of curse you can assign your custom keyboard shortcut to it as well)
Note: The Plain Rectangle can be easily converted into the Live one using Object > Shape > Convert to Rectangle

Now, creating a square or rectangle shape using values is supported. Click where you want the top-left corner or center (holding the ALT key) to be. Specify a width (single value) for square shape or a width and height (two values separated with ‘ ‘ (single space character), ‘/’ or ‘*’ for a rectangle, and click OK. For example:

Additionally the Plain Rectangle Tool supports minus directions;
for example by entering -2*-3 you tell the plugin to create a rectangle 3 units to the left of the start point, and 3 to the top. Example:
