Rectangle tool not solid, just outline.. newb

I can't seem to have the shape be filled in, thus not being able to making it a button. I was messing with it and this somehow happened. I can't seem to figure out why all of a sudden the shapes just turn into borders. I've searched the forums without luck, probably because I don't know all the terms. Halp?

I think you may have a style set in the options bar. You can either set style to default style (none) in the options bar or reset the shape tool. Default style (none) is the square with a slash through it. Option bar should look like the first image in this tutorial....beside "Tip for Applying a Shadow behind a Shape" here:

To reset the shape tool, with the shape tool selected look for the first shape icon in the horizontal options bar...the one with file, etc. There will be a little arrow beside the icon. Click it and select "reset tool". In the above linked image, it's either the first little black arrow or the second one in the options bar either to left or right of the heart shape.

Rectangle Tool Not Working Right

I have looked around for a few days and have not been able to fix this stupid problem I have.
When I try to use the rectangle tool, I can not make a shape the size I want. As soon as I click, a rectangle pops up. I can not click and drag to make the size I want.
All of the other shape tools for fine. I have been getting by by using the rounded rectangle tool with a 0 px radius. This works fine but is really inconvenient.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Rectangle Tool not working properly.

I am having the issue when I am attempting to create a Rectangle. Please keep in mind that this is not a Rounded Rectangle.
As I drag it out to make the object bigger, the corners automatically start rounding. I am using Windows 8 if that has anything to do with it.
If more information is needed, I will, somehow, provide that information.

Weird! Have you checked the Roundness setting in the Properties panel (with a rectangle or the Rectangle tool selected)? If the units are set to %, any small amount of rounding will become more noticeable at larger sizes. (Likewise, a small pixel amount could become scaled upon transformation if the Scale Attributes option has been selected.) But it shouldn't start spontaneously rounding—which sounds like what you're describing. Are you at least able to adjust the roundness after the fact, using the Properties panel?

CS5.5 Rectangle tool blue and brown outlines?

I don't understand the blue and brown colored lines that outline the rectangle/ellipsed boxes I create. Clicking on a blue outlined box sometimes causes it to turn brown, and then do odd things, like when I move the box, it sometimes completely disappears. What am I doing wrong or keep this from occuring? Many thanks in advance!

The two colors are indication that you have either the frame itself selected, or the content. I wouldn't expect to see a content bounding box unless there is an image inside the frame.
In this case it sounds like you are on layer 1 which has a default color of Cyan for frame bounding boxes and a brown for content bounding boxes. If the content is selected you can move it around inside the frame without changing the frame (you would do this if the image was being cropped by the frame, for example, to show a differnt area). If you move it past the edge it will seem to disappear.
Double-clicking with the selection tool is one way to switch back and forth between the selections.

Rectangle tools not aligning when publishing

I see that you have embedded some HTML code on this page. Please try to duplicate the page without the embedded HTML and see if that helps. Also, try to group the three rectangle using the Menu option, Object -> Group.

Why is Rectangle Tool's matching dimension feature not working?

With the Rectangle Tool's cursor is clicked in the document.
The Rectangle Panel appears.
A height dimension is entered.
With the pointer, the Width field is clicked.
Usually, the Height Value gets automatically entered in the Width field.
In this case it does not.
This same behavior is occuring in the Ellipse Tool.
What has changed?

I may not have been clear on what is not working... the feature I am trying to create has been in Illustrator for several versions... another discusion on this site deals with the same problem...

PS CS5 - rounded rectangle and move tool not working..?

I have just noticed that my rounded rectangle tool is not working properly. When I click and drag nothing is visible, when I release it floods my whole image with my selected color. I have tried all of the other tools and they work properly. I have tried restarting, compared settings with other tools, and checked for updates. Nothing is working and any help would be appreciated.
Also, I have what appears to be a common problem with my move tool. I click, drag, and drop only to have the selected image snap back to its original position. I have an intuos 5 connected, is this the culprit?

I can't help with the snap to edge problem, but if you select your rounded rectangle shape tool, and click on the Cog in the Options bar, I suspect you have a fixed size set, and that it is bigger than your canvas.

Hi Larry. I see. It is a file I have worked on previously, and the font is Myriad which I though came with the system. I just changed to Myriad Pro and the pink box disappeared. Thanks for the assistance, I know a new thing!

The variety tools within the type tool, rectangle tool, pencil tool, etc. etc are not opening in my CS4 Illustrator

I recently re-installed my CS4 and am trying to reacquaint myself with the various applications.
Where I was previously able to access the various tool options, i.e. under the Text Tool, Rectangle Tool, Pencil Tool, etc. they are not opening now.
Any suggestions out there as to what could be the problem?

Are you saying that they do not fly out when you ClickHold hovering over the main tools (that is the Illy way)?
If that be the case, you may start looking at the list, maybe going straight to 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Rounded Rectangle Tool: Only creates outlines

Desired solution: a rounded rectangle filled with color #00628b, 40px high, 200px long.
Situation: The rounded rectangle tool produces an outline in the my foreground color. I have been unable to make this tool create a rounded rectangle that is the color I listed above.

I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks), see this thread linked to below.

So a switch to Mavericks with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool.
A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

How do I get a basic shape tool (not live shape) in Photoshop CC 2014?

I seldom use shape tools, but today I needed a rectangle. I clicked on the rectangle tool expecting what I'd used before. Instead I got a live shape, which I'm sure is useful when I have time to learn how to use it. Today I don't. For now I simply need the old basic shape tool to draw a rectangle in my canvas. How can I get to it?

Yes when you left click, don't drag and the current tool is one of the shape tools other then the line shape tool. You get one of the ridiculous shape dialog. So don't just click always also drag out the shape.
When I open PS CC I create a new file, select the rectangle tool, and left click-drag to get a box of whatever size I drag.
When I open PS CC 2014 I create a new file, select the rectangle tool, and left click-drag. A few days ago that was creating a box of random size, anywhere from 32000 pixels to a side up to 100000 pixels per side and placing it with the upper left corner in the middle of the screen. Today when I do it, it still creates a rectangle (105264 x 86400) but what shows on screen is coincident with and constrained by the size of the canvas. I thought perhaps since I had many things open, I was encountering peculiarities due to memory issues. However I closed most things, and the behavior did not change.
I'm wondering if there is a setting that I have different between the two versions?

Text boxes and rectangle tool issues

When I open a new document and use the text or rectangle tool, the box I create on the screen is angled. I can't get these tools to create a straight box.

To clarify a bit:
Normally, adjusting the Constrain Angle setting does not happen by accident.

3D Tools not in tool bar

I have Adobe Design and web Premium CS6 and I do not have 3D tools. Please tell me how to get them to load in tool bar.
