Rectangular Grid Tool - Guide, Anchor, but NO Intersect?

When using the Rectangular Grid Tool I am starting from the upper edge of the artboard and when moving along the edge I see green indicators stating "Guide" when I am somewhere on the path, and "Anchor" when I am at the edge, "0,0" for instance.
However, I am trying to follow along with a video tutorial, and in the tutorial it shows the same thing EXCEPT that there is AN "Intersect" value in green in the tutorial. The demonstrator verbally mentions the importance of achieving this "Intersect" value several times. So I am wondering why I am not seeing it.
The demonstrator mentions making sure that I have "Smart Guides" turned on, and I DO.
In the video when the demonstrator is hovering over the guide lines with the grid tool it shows two values "PAGE" and "INTERSECT".
On my local machine when I am hovering over the same guide lines with the grid tool it shows two values "GUIDE" and "ANCHOR".
I have looked at the preferences when grid tool is selected and played around with different settings. I have also played around with different snap to settings from main menu, and nothing.
What am I missing?
Here are two images showing what it looks like in the video tutorial, and what I am seeing locally on my machine when trying to duplicate this myself.
VIDEO TUTORIAL SCREENSHOT:
LOCAL MACHINE SCREENSHOT:
Thank you for looking!

The grid of guides in the tutorial screenshot shows no guides along the perimeter of the artboard, so there is no anchor point there, just the artboard; the local screenshot has guides on the perimeter, so the label correctly shows an anchor point in the corner. You would need to go to View > Guides > Lock to deselect Lock so that you can select and delete the offending guides. Smart Guides will then show intersect at the corner of the artboard and page anywhere else along the edge.
Intersect appears where two paths cross without an anchor point.

  • Rectangular grid tool versus show grid

This is probably a stupid question, but can someone explain what is the difference between the rectangular grid tool and the grid accessed from the View menu?
When might you use one rather than the other? They are both adjustable to the required spacings, so I am unclear about when it would be best to use one rather than the other. I think the reason I am unclear is that I have not fully understood their different functions. Can someone explain them?

    Peter,
The Document Grid is a non-printing layout aid, like those in most every graphics progam. It's always "there", but can be shown or hidden; it can be set to cause tools to snap to it or not, regardless of if it is showing.
The Rectanglular Grid Tool is simply a tool for drawing an art item, like an ellipse or polygon. It's just that--a drawing tool. Sometimes you want to draw grids.
That's not to say you can't use a grid drawn with the Rectangular Grid Tool as a layout aid; you can, just as you can use any path as a temporary construction line. But it's just another of the several tools provided for drawing paths.

  • How do I remove the lines from the picture after using rectangular grid tool.

So I was making a pixel character for test purpose for my game, and after I finish I didn't know how remove the lines without messing up the picture. I use the erase to remove the excess lines. So I was wondering how do I remove the lines within the picture with out messing up the picture.
I'm going be using the Illustrator and rectangular grid tool for my game pictures. This is in Illustrator CS6.

If you use the pathfinders unite, you can be left with gaps between your filled objects. If thats the case, use your select menu to select all of one color, then add a stroke with that same color and increase the size of the stroke if necessary. Repeat for the next color until your done.

  • Anchor Points and Intersect Guide Lines Disappeared

Hi! I must have hit some type of command on my keyboard but now my anchor points and intersect guides have disappeared that would normally appear when I roll my mouse over the anchor point or the intersecting paths. I have hit Ctrl + H as well as went to the menu manually and my edges are showing. How do I turn back on this ability to see my anchor points and intersecting lines guide in Illustrator?
    Thanks in advance!!
Edit: I run on Adobe Illustrator CS5

Is View > Smart Guides turned on? If not, enable it.
If Smart Guides are already turned on, check if Align to Grid is enabled in the View menu and turn it off.

I downloaded Dreamweaver CC 2014.1, started using it but cannot find Show Fluid Grid Layout Guides button, Resize LI.link sizing handle and 'move up a Row' arrow. Where can I find them?

You have the latest version (CC 2014.1 or 2014.1.1) in which the interface condenses Design View with Live View buttons in normal layouts.  See screenshot.
However, in FGLayouts, Live View is the only option which poses some editing problems and has been highly criticized.
Is there any way to display the Design View in fluid grid pages?

  • How do I specify exact corners with the rectangular selection tool?

Suppose I have an image 2000 pixels wide by 1000 pixels high.  Pixel (0,0) is at the top left as you view the image.  Using the rectangular selection tool, how can I specify an exact area to select?  Say, for example, I want to select the area defined by (0,0), (100,0), (100,100) & (0,100), how would I do this?
I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac with OSX 10.8.3.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin H.

    Mylenium,
33,406 posts!  That's amazing.  Thanks for your technique for specifying an exact selection size.  I tried it out and it works, but is there a way to get the marquee to snap to the guides, as opposed to snapping to pixels.  I can't quite get the marquee to fall exactly where I place the guides, at least not easily.
Here's a method I've come up with since posting my question.  (I guess I should have tried harder to figure this out before asking the question.)
Figure out beforehand where you want the corners of the selection marquee to be.
Activate the rulers: View>Rulers or (Cmd-R.)
    Set rulers to pixels: Photoshop>Preferences>Units&Rulers>Rulers>Pixels
    Select the rectangular selection tool.
In the menu bar for the selection tool choose Style>Fixed Size.  Then in the dimension boxes to the right of the Style button, type in the width and height you want for your selection, e.g. 200 by 100 pixels.
Zoom in on where you want the top left pixel of your selection to be.  Zoom in enough to clearly see the pixel.
With the selection tool active, click-and-release on the pixel you have zoomed in on.
Go back to normal view (Cmd-0) and you should see your entire selection.
This answers my own question, and with your method I now have two ways to do this.
    Thanks,
    Kevin H.

  • Rectangular Marquee Tool screen artifacts

Hi - I have a problem with Photoshop CS3 (version 10.0) on a Windows XP Professional computer. When I try to use the rectangular marquee tool to select an area of any image the selection marker leaves dotted artifacts across the parts of the images over which the selection marker has passed.
I don't get the problem if I use any of the marquee tools and the artifacts are not actually written to the image. It's not runining the image but it is causing some problems when trying to be precise with my selections.
Has anyone seen this problem before? I can provide screen shots if that would be of any help.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Mitch

  • Rectangular marquee tool problem

i used 'rectangular marquee tool to select an area . then i right clicked and select "stroke"  . but i am not satisfied with the result , because its corner was slightly jagged ( when i zoom it ) . feather was set to 0 . can anyone help me plz how to fix this ?

May I suggest stroking on the Inside of your Marquee.
Or switching to using the Rectangle Tool.  The options for stroking a shape offer a great deal of configurability...

  • Issues with Rectangular Marquee Tool [was: I have a question]

The problem is with the 'rectangular marquee tool'  ... after I select a box, the tool defaults to a marquee that eliminates a portion of the first selected box.  The curser changes to show the '+' curser with an 'x' in the lower right of the cursor ... how do I get rid of this?

It sounds like you have Intersect with selection enabled in the tool options bar instead of the default of New selection.
Though it sounds like you want to add to the prevous selection?
I usually just leave the default of New selection and use the following keyboard shortcuts instead of clicking on different options in the tool options bar.

  • Polar grids in XY grpah (just like default rectangular grids)

I want to plot a realtime data of voltage vs time in polar format. I want the polar grids to be dynamic (for eg., rectangular grids in XY graph, which change as I zoom the XY Graph).
I have tried "polar plot with points function" and XY graph. I have been successful in plotting the graph. But zoom functionality is very high priorty as it could be hours of data on same polar plot.
    Problem with "Polar Plot function":-
It gives output as picture unlike XY Graph. I haven't been able to zoom this picture output as we do with XY Graph.
    Problem with "XY Graph Function":-
I plot the static grid. I plot the real time graph too, but independently. When I try to plot realtime on static grid that I made, it erases the grid and only plot remains. If I try to bundle this realtime plot with other static plots (grids) and plot it just plots it as a static against the grid.
I am attaching my files please take a look. I am using LabVIEW 2013.
I have read many forum discussions on this forum bu they don't solve my problem. I am stuck in this problem since some days now, so any help would be appreciated. Its my first post at this forum, so any feedback on my post too will be appreciated.

Okay, document here how you solved your problem, so later someone with a similar problem can find it.

  • Create equal grid in illustrator using grid tool

    Hi
Getting very frustrated, want to translate my vector illustrations to charts for cross stitch kits. Using the grid tool, but the lines aren't equally spaced? I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.
    Is this possible please? Thanks

    AdobeAddict,
To get actual saquares to align to, and to avoid any funny things that grids may present you with, you may:
    1) Create one 1x1cm square,
    2) Effect>Distort&Transform>Transform, set Move Horizontal to 1cm with 99 Copies,
    3) Effect>Distort&Transform>Transform, set Move Vertical to 1cm (or -1cm) with 99 Copies,
That will create a set of 100x100 squares that are 1x1cm, then:
    4) Object>Expand Appearance to get selectable squares; you may Ungroup them.

  • Noob Question  Guides/Anchors are not "on" the object I create

I know this is probably a setting I am not getting the right way... but here is my problem.
When I create an object... the path/guide/anchor is not "ON" the object I create... it "floats" outside of that object... INSTEAD of on the object like everyone else's that I see in tutorials etc.
    Take a look
all of the objects I create seem to have this... so when I try to move the two parts of the flag together... they have a buffer area between them... and I can't move them together to overlap.
    Thanks for any help...
I am usiing Illustrator CS6 by the way....

Scott is right. Your Appearance Panel shows that somes effect is applied to the stroke. Click the triangle to the left of Stroke to reveal. I suspect you'll find something like this:

  • Print Visible Grids and Guides

    Hi everyone,
I'm using InDesign CS3 5.0.4,  If i export to direct pdf the check box of Print visible grid and guides is enabled,   But to make the postscript file the mentioned option is disabled.
Please guide me how to enable this option in the InDesign
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nagaraj

... I don't have a special profile. I almost never directly print, but Export to PDF exclusively. And if you use that instead, you can choose any of the standard presets -- High Quality, Press Quality, etc. -- no printer dependent settings.
The print options inside InDesign and Acrobat are (partly) optional, depending on the printer driver you happen to have installed.

I've found that the JavaScript Tools Guide CS6 PDF is not available for download from the Adobe website. It is only available as part of the ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 (ESTK 3.8).
ESTK 3.8 is not available for download from the Adobe website either, but is included in all Adobe CS6 products.

  • Can't find rectangular marquee tool, etc.

I can select the Quick Selection Tool, which then presents the Quick Selection Tool and the Selecton Brush Tool options in the Tool Options bar (bottom left corner).  But nowhere is there an option for rectangular marquee tool or elliptical tool.  Please help.  (This is for Elements 12)

    Hi,
You need to be in Expert Mode to see all the tools - the rectangular and elliptical marquee tools share the same place with the tools options used to select which one you want.
