Recurring alert at 3am

it started a couple weeks ago. All of a sudden every night without fail at 3am I get an alert/alarm on my iphone (3 beeps). I have checked all my alarm clocks and calendar alerts and cannot find where it is to turn it off. does anybody know how to find where that alert/alarm lurks to turn it off?

I've checked every app which have alerts and alarms already and I found nothing... and the fact that it is just 3 beeps and no message makes it even more difficult (that and I am usually asleep and that wakes me up EVERY NIGHT).
the only other thing I can think of is I updated the iphone software a couple weeks ago and the update failed and I had to reset the phone, reupdate and reload all the apps which was a pain...

  • Spell checker alert

Whenever I open a document that I did not create with Pages, I get a recurring alert box saying that Pages "couldn't contact spell checker". If I dismiss the alert, it recurs after only 10-15 seconds. I have looked in vain at the Preferences trying to find out how to turn it off OR how to reconnect it with the spell checker. Can anyone help? It's driving me nuts!!
    Mshen1
Intel duo mini running OSX 10.5.6 and iWork '08.

Finally squashed this issue - but it wasn't easy. I checked all the Library/Services directories and the only thing I had was TextExpander.service. Tried disabling that but no go. Then I realized that I had created a "Services-disabled" directory right next to my ~/Library.Services directory and over the years I had moved older service modules, modules I was testing and disabled, etc into that directory. I assumed if they weren't in the ~/Library/Services directory they wouldn't be recognized. WRONG!!! I just learned that apparently the system makes a system wide scan for service... we can see this because often services are embedded deep in the bowels of applications and they get picked up. Anyway - sure enough inside that Services-disabled directory was "Spell Catcher.services";. As soon as I deleted all the misc old services from ~/Library/Services-disabled... BOOM.. pages worked. Moral is - just because its not in services directory doesn't mean its disabled... I think... hahaha

  • Browser Problem After 10.2 Upgrade

    Hello,
Last week I upgraded to 10.2.0.424 using BlackBerry Link. It's a valid, not leaked, upgrade. Following the upgrade I had noticed 3 issues:
    1. Once a day I still get an alert message in my hub telling me an upgrade to 10.2 is available, even though I've already installed it.
    2. My business contacts were all out of order. Instead of being listed alphabetically with the rest of my contacts they were all at the top of my contact list and didn't seem to be in any type of order, certainly not alphabetical anyway.
    3. Certain websites won't load on 4G, but will when I'm connected to wifi. Most noticeable is eBay's mobile website. I get daily emails from eBay with my saved searches, but if I click any of the links the same problem occurs. I just get the blue progress bar at the bottom, but it gets about 1mm and then stalls. Eventually I get a black screen with an error message saying, "The network is unavailable. Please try again later." Just to reiterate it works fine when in wifi just not over the air.
Following a suggestion on Crackberry forums I comletely wiped my Z10. Used the "reload" function on BB Link that took me back to the original OS version that came installed on the phone. I then reinstalled 10.2.0.424 using Link and once that was complete I restored a backup to get my files and settings back etc.
Doing the reinstall of 10.2 solved the first two problems. I'm not longer getting the recurring alert telling me that there is an upgrade available. It also solved an issue I was having with the contacts where all of the business contacts where at the top of my contact list and not in alphabetical order.
Unfortunately the problem with websites not loading is still happening. I still get the message saying, "The network is unavailable. Please try again later." But, as before it the wesites and links load properly when I'm connected to wifi, just not over the air.
    Any other ideas?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    CG

Nothing. That was obviously the first thing I tried.

  • Calendar alarms

I'm a noob. I just picked up an iPhone 3G.
Question: Is there a way to set a recurring alert through the Calendar application?
I've found that the alarm will only go off once, and I do not have the option to "snooze".
    TIA!

No, but you can set a secondary alert for each calendar event.

  • Why is ical adding multiple alerts to my recurring events?

I have searched for this issue in the support topics but can only find very old threads with links to apps that do not work.  My recurring events in ical are all of a sudden getting many many alerts added to them.  Every once in while I try deleting the event and creating a new one, or deleting the extra alerts for all future events and YET THEY KEEP COMING BACK.  It's super annoying when I am getting 10 reminders for one event and have to clear each one of them.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks Malcolm.I'm afraid this issue started for me after updating to iOS6!

  • Calendar app in iOS can't set complex recurring events or arbitrary alert time.

    Dear Administrator,
I find the Calendar app in iOS very limiting.  It should not be difficult for Apple to include features that allows arbitrary alert time (45min before the event) or complex recurring events (repeat every 4 months on the first Thursday of the month).  Do I miss something or Apple did not include these features in the system software.  It is really inconvenient.  Please help.
    Sincerely yours,
    Zigang Pan

The built-in calendar app does not support complex recurrances.  If you want to do that, you'll need to use a different calendar app, such as Fantistical 2 or Week Calendar.

  • Alerts for recurring events in iCal no longer display on iPhone after iOS5 upgrade

That pretty much says it.  I have a daily meeting in my iCal, with two alarms set, one for 15 minutes before and one for 5 minutes before.  The alerts no longer display on my phone after the upgrade.  (They appear on my Mac no problem.)  Has anyone else seen this problem?  I have notifications turned on for iCal , set to Alerts.  Tried badges, tried turning notifications off then on, to no avail.  It doesn't display for recurring events that were in my calendar before the upgrade and for those created after the upgrade.  I don't seem to have a problem with regular i.e. non-recurring events.  Doesn't seem to matte also if it is the default calendar or a different calendar either.  (I tried Reminders and that worked fine, but I don't want to have type all of my recurring events in to iCal and then in to Reminders as well....)
    Thanks very much

I'm having the same problem on my iMac (works on a different phone on my MBP). I restored the iphone and no dice. I'm also constantly getting a beach ball... Hope someone out there knows a workaround.

  • Alerts for recurring calendar appointments do not go off

Does anyone else have this issue?  I have a bunch of recurring calendar events, set up in Outlook 2010, which the iPhone 4 used to show alerts for.  Now (not sure when this started, but w/in last few months) there aren't any alerts even though I can see "1 day before" in the iPhone Calendar app for the recurring event.  I even made a slight change to the recurring event in hopes of getting them back on track but no luck.  Thanks.

I'm having the exact same issue with my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.3, 4.3.4 and 4.3.5). I'm a new user (this is my first iPhone, bought one month ago), so I can't comment on earlier iOS versions. In the one month that I have the phone, I'm absolutely sure that I have never had an alert from a recurring event. I only noticed it a couple of weeks ago. I'm only using all-day events (for anniversaries, etc.), so I'm not sure if the same applies to other types of events.
I have made several tests and I can confirm that no alerts are generated for recurring all-day events. Something is seriously messed up in the Calendar App algorithms. At first I thought it had to do with MS Outlook 2007, whose calendar is synced with the iPhone. But when I create a recurring all-day event directly on the iPhone I get exactly the same behaviour (no alert, no pop-up, no sound, nothing). I can see the event on Calendar on the iPhone, and I can also see the alert settings (the time it should be generated, e.g., "Alert: 2 hours before"). So everything looks OK on the iPhone, but the alerts are never generated. I also did a test with a non-recurring all-day event, and everything worked fine (I got the alert pop-up and sound at the time I specified). This means that it's something specific to recurring events. Finally, I restored the iPhone to factory defaults and tried again by creating a recurring event directly on the untouched, factory-reset iPhone. Same thing, no alerts, no pop-ups, no sound, nothing.
This is clearly a serious bug in the Calendar App and I'm very surprised that Apple has not released an update to fix it. Also, I couldn't find much information on the Internet about this issue. That's why I'm replying to this thread, to let you and others know that you are not alone. I asked a friend of mine who is running iOS 5 Beta 2 and he said that everything works fine, so I guess we'll have to wait for iOS 5 to fix the issue.
I hope this helps someone out there. If anyone running iOS 4.3.3 or later is having the same problem, please reply here. Most of all, I hope that the guys at Apple read this and do something about it.

  • Deleting a recurring event in iCal

Situation; iphone 5 recurring event wont delete.  looking at same calendar on a synced PC (work) the event is not there at all.
If you are having trouble deleting a recurring event in iCal try this:
on your iphone change the event "alert" or "show as" setting on one of the events in the future.  The event that wasn't showing on the PC outlook calendar magically shows up now.  delete it from the PC by opening it and choosing the X delete for all occurances (if its asks).
Now open the event in iCal and you should see the Accept Maybe Decline option at the bottom - choose decline.  you may have to do this on several dates, but that should delete the event.
    Hope this helps.

    pedfogog,
... or whoever may find this post in need of assistance as I was.
I just had this same problem and successfully deleted ALL event (past and future)instances by :
    1. Click on any instance of the event in the calendar
    2. Select "Delete" from the iCal toolbar "Edit" menu.
    3. The iCal propmt asked me to choose to delete all or just the one instance.
    4. Naturally, select to "Delete all occurrences"
    I am running OS 10.6.8   iCal 4.0.4

  • I can no longer determine a calendar alert snooze time?

I'm very dependent on my calendar alerts and use them for recurring events like bill paying and unique events like meetings and doctor appointments. Up until OS 10.7 (Lion), when an alert popped up and I wanted to continue being alerted of that event, I could simply choose the snooze time (be it 5 minutes, an hour, a day or a week) and could continue to be re-reminded until I chose not to be.
Last week I upgraded to Mountain Lion so I could take maximum advantage of iCloud and my new iPhone 5. After much frustration and searching, it's apparent that the option of determining the snooze time in "Calendar", formerly known as "iCal" is simply no longer an option. Why remove a core feature of a core app? I'm stuck using the default snooze time as set in the calendar app, then, when the alert does pop up, I'm stuck with either dismissing it completely or hitting "snooze" only to be reminded every 15 or 20 minutes. This works okay for events with a short lag time, but in other cases (I will sometimes set up a bill payment reminder days before it's due so I have time to cover the due amount in my bank account) I'm stuck having either it pop up incessantly for days EVERY 20 minutes for DAYS or dismissing it, risking missing the payment due date.
I know from scanning these forums that a lot of other people are unhappy with the dumbed down functionality of this core app. I haven't been able to find an alternative to the app from any third-party. It sounds like both "busycal" and "fantastical" are dependent on Apple's calendar app so I don't know if they will solve the problem or not. I don't really wnat to spend money on a third party app just to get back a core function of an app I've been dependent on for years.
If anyone has found a good alternative to help get back this simple, but critical functionality, I'd love to know about it. Thanks!

I have also submitted feedback to Apple about this, as I think they have rendered Calendar all but useless by stripping out the ability to set sound cues, and to specify the lag time when hitting the "snooze" button. I completely agree, this is a serious and unprofessional messtep to remove a core function as though it were a trivial feature of the software. I've been a loyal Apple consumer for two decades, and this really makes me angry.
I am hopeful the wonderful people at Apple will restore this function with the next update to the OS.

  • Calendar is creating unwanted Alerts

I use Calendar on iCloud across four devices: iMac, MacBookAir, iPad and iPhone. All running current (10.8.3; 6.1.3) OS.
Recently, Alerts are being added to my Calendar events on the iOS devices, and I don't know how this is occuring.
Example: Suppose I create a recurring event in Calendar on my iMac... to Get Up at 6 a.m. every day, and I make sure I don't create an alert. That event appears on my iMac with no alert.
However, when I open it on my iPad and iPhone, it has an alert: At time of event. Where did this come from?
I have checked that all default alerts are set to off in Calendar preferences on the computers, and also on the iOS devices in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Calendars / Default, and also accessing iCloud preferences via Safari.
I have tried logging out of my iCloud account on both iOS devices, deleting everything, and signing on, and it does the same thing with every single event. It adds the alerts that I don't want.
Also intriguing, if I DO set an alert in a new event on the iMac, the event shows up on the iOS devices with TWO alerts.
This began out of the blue about two weeks ago, and I can't find a solution. I am getting a lot of alerts that I do not want.
Does anyone else have the same problem? ...And hopefully a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm having a similar problem.  The Calendar app in iOS (iPhone 4S) is automatically setting for me a second alert for events that is nine hours after the event itself.  I have not set any second alert as a default, and even if I did I wouldn't set the alert for nine hours later.  Still, I changed my default alerts on Calendar in both iOS and OSX (Mountain Lion) to "none"; I have switched off iCloud sync for Calendar; and I have made sure my reminders in Google are also set to "none".  I am still having the problem.  I have visited my local Apple store.  Unfortunately, the associate didn't understand why I was having the problem either and thus could offer no solution.  The only thing that works is going into the Calendar app and manually deleting the second alert for each event, which isn't really a solution to the problem.  I have sent a report into Apple about this, but I too welcome any advice.

  • Phantom Recurring Event on Desktop 6.2.2

I have a recurring weekday event that I deleted a month ago. The original event was back in April 2009. But it still pops up on my Palm Desktop v6.2.2. The alert doesn't occur on my Palm Treo 755. When I click on "Go to Event" it just takes me to today's calendar which of course doesn't list it.
A full search for the event name doesn't turn up anything on the Palm Desktop or Treo. I haven't done a bulk delete by date on my calendar. I individually delete events and don't archive them. I've deleted other recurring events without any problem. I may have deleted it in each place between synchs.
My next step will be to completely uninstall the Desktop SW, reinstall and resynch, but I was hoping there is a less slash and burn alternative.
    Thanks
