Recurring Kernel Panic... troubleshoot not helping
My Computer is a mid 2009 Macbook Pro.
running OS X 10.7.5
I looked through the questions eariler this week, because i had no clue what was happening to my computer. by looking through these posts i found it was a Kernel Panic... i have NO idea what that means...
but i looked through the steppes to figure out why/what is causing it and ran the troubleshoot viariation for finding an issue with the software, because it mainly seemed to happen when i was using Firefox in combination with Minecraft, however i couldnt get the problem to start after a few tests i determined that it was mainly because of the requirements Minecraft was putting on my system.
so i said fine, no more minecraft. well it seemed to fix it for a few days however here we are again... the issue is back. and worse. now it seems to happen a consistant 20-40 minutes after i reboot my computer and get it running again... every time.
my system of course asks to send a report after it happens each time and i do... but i'm not really sure that actually DOES anything... seeing as i've been reporting it and jack-**** has come back to me on it.
other info about my Mac:
the harddrive was failing shortly before it was supposed to go out of warranty, but i caught it in time and it was replaced last summer for free. the battery was failing as well and was also replaced. both of these changes was done in the Macbook store in Northbrook, Illinois.
I recently (pretty much a week before this all started happening) upgraded my RAM from 4gigs to 8 because i'll be running AUTOCAD when i get back to school in 4 days. and 4 clearly would not have worked for that software. believe me i am thinking this does have something to do with my computer having issues because my father made the change instead of letting a Macbook proffessional do it for us...
my computer most likely is OUT OF WARRANTY unless the store put it back under after replacing the HD and battery this summer.
so i'll post the report details below and hopefully someone here can help me figure out whats really going on. I need my computer up and running fast before school starts because i'll be working 3shows and taking 18 credits of courses, not to mention i'll be running CAD constantly once classes begin. so if you can help PLEASE do

Help! Recurring kernel panic.
I am getting a recurring kernel panic on my macbook pro running Mountain Lion, which happens on shut down. It is after an auto install of firmware for my wi fi router. Could it be a virus? Or someone getting into the router? How do I fix it? Thanks so much.
This is not related to malware or hacking. Can you post your latest kernel panic log?
How to log a kernel panic -
Recurring kernel panics, Macbook Pro 13" mid-2010
The last month or so I have noticed that my computer gets very warm and the fan spins like crazy at times, mostly when I stream HD-video or visit sites with many GIFs running at the same time. Lately (last week or so) I have also been having recurring kernel panics and having hte computer just freezing up with weird graphics on the screen, sometimes several times in a row, also this mostly when I stream video. But sometimes very randomly, when the computer shouldn't be stressed at all. My amateur guess is that the GPU is the bad guy, and that I need to replace the logic board.
The only things I have done lately that might cause this is an OS-update to 10.8.5 sometime around two months ago, and around one month ago I encrypted the computer using filevault. Unfortunately I'm not into macs enough to be able to interpret the KP-report, maybe someone is able to do that and let me determine wether it is the logic board or not that need to be replaced? If it is the logic board I'm thinking I should be able to replace it myself, if I just get ahold of the right one. Or is it a hard thing to do?

Some versions of it are incompatible. Remove it and see whether there's an improvement.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software. -
Recurring Kernel Panic with Mountain Lion
I have a recurring kernel panic on OSX 10.8.2 but I've been getting it since 10.7 with this mac. I've replaced the hard disk and stress tested the RAM for hours and have yet to find any problems.
Thanks in advance for helping me to troubleshoot this.
Here's the readout of the latest panic:

Experiencing Recurring Kernel Panic
So I've been experiencing recurring kernel panics for at least a month now and I seem to have narrowed down the issue to the RAM. Now I'm just not sure whether it's corrupt kernel files associated with the RAM or the actual hardware itself.
I've run the extended apple hardware test and the error message I recieve (within 5 seconds) is that the error is with the file 4MEM/1/40000000:0x84938218
I've downloaded memtest and run that within terminal. Funny thing about that is as soon as I type "memtest all" my macbook kernel panics almost immediately. Something about the "memory lock-up" phase".
Other than that my computer works fine as long as I don't run too many applications at once. Often times video streaming or opening too many tabs in a web browser will do it. And you can forget about running games that will kernel panic almost immediately.
Oh yeah and here's an example of the logs I've been getting. It's not the most recent but they all say the same thing-I've checked.

So that sums up my problem basically. Specs should be posted at the bottom of the panic log. I'm just wondering is this something I'm going to have to go to an apple store to have them fix? Or can I restore the corrupt files myself? Am I going to have to install brand new RAM?
Please let me know if more info is needed and thanks in advance for any help.So get new RAM, or have Apple repalce it under warranty.
If it occurs again it's likely the logicboard. -
Recurring KERNEL PANIC 10.5 using Safari
Hello all, I'm in need of some help.
I am getting a recurring kernel panic whilst using Safari. The panic can occur as often as every 24 hours or once a week. I've not made any hardware changes recently and all software is up to date. I've tried running in safe mode and instead of getting panics, Safari crashes. I've included the latest report.
Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.2.0I'm actually also getting random kernel panics while browsing. The always occur when I'm two finger scrolling down. Both Firefox and Chrome. I've been trying to figure out what causes them, but never though about the scrolling until now.
If anyone is able to shed some light on this i'd be ever grateful.

End All Kernel Panic Troubleshooting List
I have been tasked to put together an end all list to troubleshooting Kernel Panics. Please take a look at this list to verify if I missed any steps you would try.
I understand that there will be specific fixes to specific causes, and not all of these would be used in any one situation. Also not yet listed in specific or correct order that troubleshooting should be done.
Some list instructions on how to do the needed troubleshooting, some do not. This would be user specific, dependent on computer knowledge so I did not get into that yet.
- Was a change just made, added ram, HD, card of any kind, software installed? Remove/uninstall and reboot.
- Verify cables, connections and their proper installation and ensure that they are working properly.
- Restart your computer.
- Make sure that sufficient RAM and hard disk space is available for proper functioning of Mac.
- Remove all peripherals down to monitor, keyboard and mouse.
- Run Software Update.
- System Scan with Tech Tool Deluxe.
- Clean Cashes.
- An incompatible login item could cause this symptom.
- Selecting the "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" option in Network preferences can sometimes cause this issue.
- open-source tool 'Rember'.
- Reset certain privileges.
- Remove fonts folder (10.3.9 and earlier).
- Uninstall Any KEXTs To check the KEXTs that are running on your system currently, type this command in Terminal (Applications >> Terminal) and hit enter:sudo kextstat.
- If particular app, delete Plists.
- Verify & Repair Permissions.
- App specific: Delete and reinstall app.
- Apple Hardware Test.
- Run FSCK Start up holding command and 's' to boot in single user mode. Type the following exactly as this with the spaces fsck -fy and then press the return key reset-nvram then press return, set-defaults then press return, reset-all then press return.
- Start computer by pressing power button then holding down the Shift key.
- Hold down the X key and choose Apple menu > Restart. This may force the computer to start up using your Mac OS X system. If the computer starts up, release the X key. Choose Apple menu> System Preferences, and then click Startup Disk. Make sure that the disk containing Mac OS X is selected.
- Restart and immediately hold down the Option key. When icons start to appear in the center of the screen, release the Option key. Select the disk that contains Mac OS X, and then click the forward arrow to continue starting up.
- Boot from the Install DVD. Restart holding down the C, does it boot?
- Reset PRAM. Start computer by pressing power button and hold down Command Option P and R buttons at same time and hold until you have heard the start chimes 3 times, then release all buttons and let it boot up.
- Hardware Test. Use the DVD that came with computer and press the power button and immediately insert the DVD and once it goes in hold the D key down. When it boots up hit return and then select which Hardware test you want to run, probably a good idea to do the extended test even though it may take an hour to an hour and a half to run through.
- Reinstall Mac OS.
- Erase and Install Mac OS X.
- Contact Apple Inc.

What's a "kernel panic"? (Mac OS X)
You are just reinventing the wheel which is not really a good use of the forum. -
Os x 10.9 kernel panic troubleshooting options
So what are some kernel panic troubleshooting options for Mac OS X 10.9 (Macbook Pro/ 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 / 4 GB DDR3 RAM / 500 GB HDD 5400 rpm HD) i'll regurgitate the remedies i have ruled out: (performed in safe boot obviously)
disconnect everything but the keyboard and the mouse reconnecting everything one at a time and restarting after each new object
Restarting using the OS X Installation DVD or RecoveryHD partition
using disk utility to run repairdisk on the startup and other drives
launching fontbook and using font validation to check for trouble, disabling applicable fonts
Reinstalling OS X altogether using OSX update combo or Erase & Install or downloading the OS X update from in safeboot
RAM check
Ruled out bad 3rd party kernel extensions and apps checked for 3rd party kernel updates
hard drive ok
what else can i do?These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report. -
Recurring kernel panics. What is the problem?
I get recurring kernel panics and am not sure how to solve this issue. My MacBook Pro is just a few months old. It is running 10.7.5 Lion; I am unable to install the firmware update 2.9 or the supplemental update 10.7.5. The panic happens when I open my laptop back up from sleeping. It doesn't happen all the time but has happened about 6 times in the last month. I have tried resetting the PRAM.

For the Firmware Update 2.9, I get this error when I try to unpack the update:
"Alert

I'm definitely running V 10.7.5, so both updates should work. ? -
How to diagnose my recurring kernel panic?
My MacBook Air (Mid 2012) running 10.9.1 is now having recurring kernel panics.
They all are in the same kernel extension: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily
Below is an example of the output from the system diagnostic logs. It has happened 5 times in the last week and once before that. The pace of the panics also seems to be accelerating. I did get a full TImeMachine backup of the system so I don't think I'll lose anything but this is the fourth time I have had to take this machine in. First two times for SSD corruption issues, then they managed to mis-install the motherboard so one USB port was no longer useful.
Can I get Apple to give me a new machine with all these issues? Or am I just unlucky?
Thanks in advance,
Charlie

Recurring kernel panics for the past 6 months - help!
HI all,
So I purchased a non-manufacturer refurbished mid-2010 MBP about 6 months ago. It came with a 1TB hybrid SS/SATA drive and way more software than I will ever use(i.e. entire Adobe suite) but basically since I got it it's been restarting intermittently; black screen, restart, "your computer restarted because of a problem." It seems to particularly hate switching between apps (especially with Mission Control) and occasionally when composing a new email in Mail. I ignored this for long time because I was a new Mac user but it is pretty **** irritating not being able to switch between apps easily or compose an email without restarting. It also gets ridiculously hot so I have temperature and fan control app installed that works pretty well; the hottest I've ever seen it is 92 degrees and the trackpad stopped working, but was fine after an hour or so of being switched off (I'm not sure how relevant this is, but additional information can't hurt right?)
I check for updates daily; I've reinstalled from Time Machine and the problem is still there, and it carried over from Snow Leopard to Mavericks. I've seen some people recommending deleting drivers but I'm reluctant to interfere with stuff I don't understand for fear of breaking it completely. At this stage I genuinely cannot afford to get it fixed - I'm afraid that any Genius recommendations are going to be pricey and/or ineffective, so I'm open to suggestions. Here is the most recent kernel panic log;

As a student I'm relying on my Mac for absolutely everything. If this can't be fixed then I'd like to know if it's going to get any worse, but if anyone could help me decipher the log and/or suggest a fix then I would be eternally grateful! Two possibilities, the RAM needs replacing, with high quality RAM*:
http://www.macmaps.com/badram.html
The GPU needs replacing, which means a logicboard replacement (expensive).
This is the risk you take with a non-Apple refurbished. And unless you purchased it in 2011, it is unlikely you have any warranty, unless you purchased with a credit card a card that extends the warranty. -
Kext causing kernel panic? Need help troubleshooting, please.
Hello all,
I'm a new face here and have been fortunate enough to never really need support, however at this point, I'm completely lost. First of all I want to apologize if my English is bad, Swedish is my native language.
My specs:
MBP 5,1 (late 2008) 15.4"
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2,53 GHz
Memory: Apple native 4GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP51.007E.B05
System Version: Mac OS X 10.7.2 (11C74) Lion
Kernel Version: Darwin 11.2.0
SATA HDD: ST9250410AS Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 250GB
I have a very annoying problem that I dont know how to solve. When I try to boot my MBP normally I get kernel panic before getting to the login-screen. The kernel panic occurs 1-2 minutes into loading while the gray Apple-logo still is on screen.
Booting in safe mode works just fine (wifi, wired network and other critical os x functions works - While gfx-, audio-, spotlight-, etc. kexts are disabled). This problem occurred a few months ago while using the MBP normally (e.g. browsing the web). Since then I have done the following troubleshooting:
1. Switched to other HDD:s with both Snow Leopard-/Lion set-ups (fresh installs, same kernel panic)
2. Tried to reinstall from USB (same kernel panic)
3. Zapped PRAM
My thoughts: Some non-essential component in my MBP is malfunctioning, but since it works just fine in safe boot mode I figure that if I disable/remove the right kext(s) it should boot up fine in normal mode as well? (without the functionality of the component(s) that is disabled)
Im having a hard time to localize the origin of the error since I dont have any experience of interpreting Mac kernel logs.
Maybe you guys have any answers? Ill be eternally thankful for any thought, advice och help I can get!
I have recorded logs from two different crashes:
Kernel panic #1

However I cant manage to find the panic logs in the library/logs/ or any of its directorys. Ive looked for this logs before and my guess is that they dont get created if the panic occurs during boot. -
Help -- Recurring Kernel panic at cold start-up
imac g5 -- 1.8 ghz ppc -- 1 gb ddr sdram -- os x 10.4.11
The last two days my iMac has been having kernel panics at login after a cold start up -- off more than an hour or so. I've repaired the disk permissions, and disconnected peripherals, but it still happens, and the cold startup leads me to believe it's hardware... maybe ram or something? What do you think? Should I just keep it on 24/7? Is it possible the ram needs to be replaced and if so, how much would that cost?
here is the panic log:

PC=0pKPs are usually caused by a hardware problem - frequently RAM or USB devices. When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, kbd & mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM
Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.

Cheers, Tom -
Need help with Recurring Kernel Panic- [ WITH LOGS ]
For the past two weeks or so I have been getting a lot of Kernel Panics. Most of them happen when I select Restart or Shutdown. There have also been cases of Final Cut Pro crashing regularly, but I thnk the Kernel Panics are far more important to diagnose. I have not changes any hardware for at least a year. The machine has 4.5gb of RAM and 40% of the system drive free. I have run Disk Utility to repir the disk as well as the permissions, all coming back with no errors. The ONLY thing that I can think of that changed is that I purchased and ran Disk Warrior 4. It seemed to help tremendously with performance, however, it is the only thing that I can think of that has changed. I am also suffereing from some performance loss as well. I get at least one Kernel Panic a day. I have no idea what the KP mean, but they all look similar. I have posted the two latest ones below. Any help as to what might be causing this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Exception state (sv=0x5D502A00)Hello! I would be inclined to think you probably should re-install. The fact you said DW helped with performance indicates it found problems. My experience with OSX has been that mine has run pretty much perfectly for 3 years plus even though I tinker a lot and try out apps and have several dozen apps installed along with several haxies. It runs just as fast as it did when I first installed it as a fresh install. DW helps fix directory errors but it's not designed to do anything else. You could have bad blocks on the hard drive which could be causing the problem. I would erase using the zero data option and reinstall fresh. Ideally you would do this on a second partition or on another hard drive. If you only have one hard drive now is a good time to invest in another one so you can have a bootable backup for problem solving. Tom
