Red Camera Work Flow Start to finish

I am editing on a Mac workbook with OS 10.5.7 and FCP 6.0.4 working off of external WD 1TB drive
since this is my 1st time editing with red footage I wanted to make sure what I have done so far is the best way to work with the footage and export. did some research on reds website and the net overall and found it not to be very helpful as far as specifics.
The hard rive had a folder with the project title which I opened and it had 13 folders labeled Roll A1 through Roll A13 , each folder had another folder that ended in .RDM . Each of thos folders had several folders with labels ending in .RDC and each of those folders had 4 quicktime files and a file ending in .R3D . The quicktime files where labeld the same except for the end _P , _M , _H , _F . from the research i did I knew enough that I wanted to work with the _P files so I only imported those for editing. I did my edit the director is given thumbs up and now I am ready to export.
I download Red Cine exported my XML file from FCP and tried to open up the XML in RED Cine and got wrong file message.
am I way out in left field with my work flow? did I go about it wrong?
Does final cut have a better way for going about this?
Can anyone shine some light in my direction?

Work flow to be triggered from portal but not from PA30 Transaction

Hi,
We have copied a standard workflow to enhance it and attached standart event to that workflow in SWETYPV t-code.
Now the work flow is triggered from both PA30 and portal whenever changes are made.But we want it to be triggered from portal alone.
Can anyone suggest how can i restrict work flow start event to be triggered from portal alone.

My suggestion is instead of starting the workflow by using EVENT it is better to start by using SAP_WAPI_START_WORKFLOW
As you are saying that you need to trigger the workflow only from the protal. Now in the portal you might be using a WebdDynpro Application or a BSP application, so in that application after filling all the details you might be having a button like Save or Submit or Create so under this final button you call the FM SAP_WAPI_START_WORKFLOW in the action handler.
And more over even by using this FM you can even pass the values from WD Application to workflow by using the tables Parameter Simple_container.
And one more thing is if you start a workflow by using a event then when ever the event is occured then the workflow gets triggered.
or make use of Start Condition in the basic data of the workflow.

Work flow? How to link multi-cam sequences for DVD output?

Still taking baby steps each day... please take my hand and help me!
Final output will be 2 DVD's (each DL) each about 2 hrs. Content are chamber music student groups in two recitals.
I have assets from two camera angles. I have successfully practiced on one of the groups performance (10 min.) following the steps illustrated in a multi-cam tutorial. http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0234
This leaves me with a great multi-cam sequence for that group located in the Project Panel, exactly what I want.
Now, I want to know what is the best method (workflow?) to ultimately produce a DVD containing about 10 of these type performances (one after the other) with chapter markings for each group, titles etc.?
I have yet to use Encore and I'm guessing that is where I'll send the finished edit for DVD production, though I don't know at what step I jump there?
Do I try to create one very long multi cam sequence of all the content, then send to Encore? Or can I create seperate multi-cam sequences (each performance) then link them together, adding transitions and make the DVD? This would be my preference to keep things more manageable, especially with audio synching.
With my practice multi-cam sequence on the timeline, I tried to drag the same sequence from the Project Panel to the end of the timeline to simulate how this would work, but it does not add to the timeline as a clip would.
This is probably childs play for you pro's, but we were all baby's at one time...I just happen to still be one!

I am trying to quickly get up to speed in Pr CS4 to get this project completed. In the process, I'm trying to learn and understand the interface and correct terminology so as to make my questions intelligible to a community that posses vastly greater understanding than myself.
Is there anyone who can help with my main question at hand? Namely, how to go about creating a full length sequence (in the timeline) made via the nesting of synchronized multi-camera clips within a new "multi-cam sequence"?
As I said, I have completed a small test sequence in this fashion, nesting clips in a new sequence then using multi-cam monitor to record cuts. Now I need to add about 10 more of these together in a completed sequence to then send to DVD production.
Is this intelligible?

Triggers and actions stopped working, now plays start to finish

My edge file ive been animating has been working and working well... near the end of wrapping the project up i find!
that the preview now plays from start to finish,,, skipping all stop commands and button actions.
any way to fix to make it recognize the actions!

Hello Scott,
This could be the sign that you have an error in your code in which case an animation will play to the end skipping all stops.
Please check at the bottom of your screen to see if you have an error message.
You can them click on the arror in order to get the code window where the error occured as shown bellow. You will see a red dot. Then correct your error.

Any advantage in working in ProRes 422 start to finish

Since it's possible to capture ProRes 422 via firewire now is there any advantage to working with it from start to finish? The workflow now has been capture and work in HDV and render to a ProRes Timeline when finished.
I'd Like to hear some opinions on this subject. I know ProRess captured files are much larger than HDV captures so that's a consideration.
Also Does ProRes run any smoother in FCP2 than HDV?

I'm sure there are others, but two things come to mind right away:
Since ProRes422 is 10-bit, it makes working in Color much more liberating.
As best I can tell, rendering in in FCP is much quicker (even at the highest quality settings) with ProRes422 on a Mac Pro since it's a much more multi-thread friendly codec than HDV.

Red Camera Button not working anymore

so the red camera button wont let me take pictures anymore and i want it back, anyone else having the same problem

Like it was said, the button was not turned of by any updates, your problem is most likely software related.. If it is really bothering you and want to isolate the issue just do a hard reset and take everything out of equation. Safe mode option may work but there is also a chance if a app changed this that that it could have override the program settings that can be retained in safe mode, I have ran into this before and just want to let you know Safe Mode may or may not guarantee trouble solution.

That is strange that No Lock causes you issues when I haven't had any issuers using it, shows that the difference in the combination of software on a device does make a difference..

When I recorded a vocal track 3 hours ago, it recorded perfectly. The syncing was perfectly in time with the rest of the song. I just came back to start working on it again, and it's completely off beat. What gives?

Also, I'd forgotten about this problem until just now, when I extend a loop (for instance, to play 2x instead of just one) it plays a phantom 3rd time. What I mean by this, is there's no track to tell garage band to play it a 3rd time, but it does anyway. If I copy paste the loop, it doesn't do it. I've got no idea what to do with this one. I'd really appreciate a quick response as I'm in the middle of a recording project :/

this may happen, if you accidentally turn on Auto Quantize for the track in the track editor, also "follow tempo and pitch" may cause it. Have you checked the settings?
As to your strange loop: is it a software instrument loop or a real instrument loop you are talking about?
If it is a software instrument loop you can look at it in the track editor and delete any extra beats that are revealed by looping. That sometimes happens if there are long notes at the end of the loop.

Scheduled start and finish dates in the Work order.

I am facing peculiar issue that once the Work order has been released schedule start and finish dates should be derived from the control key and
operation hours and work center capacity,infact in my case while releasing the Work order,these dates (scheduled start & finish) are not been
populating in the Work order,(but SAP standard behavior is while releasing WO,the dates should be populated).
though i have maintained proper configuration

I have observed that whenever releasing the work order,irresepective of number of operations in the work order, system generating scheduling start and finish dates are same, however after releasing the Work order and by adding another operation in the work order, immediately scheduling end date equaling to Basic finish date (i.e.: Basic start and finish dates are equal to Schedule start and finish dates).
Can any body please explain why this is heppening

There are many things that affect the order scheduling:
IMG setting - scheduling parameters
Work centre settings
Operation values e.g. work, duration, operation control key settings
Calendars
Etc
So one possible interpretation of the above data is that the initial order operations have no work assigned, or the operation control keys don't require scheduling, or the work centres arn't set up correctly.
Then you add a new operation which does appear to work.
Please supply a screen-shot of the operation tab.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but from what I have read on the Forum and FAQ, you will need to un-install Network Magic from all of your computers making sure that no NM settings folders are left behind under users. Then unplug all wired computers and rebuild your network by re-installing NM in each computer before connecting it to your router. After you have added all of your wired computers, set up your wireless network and install NM and add each wireless computer.
That is a lot of work. I hope this helps.

While editing in Camera Raw, software stops working and starts spooling

Anyone out there that might have a solution. While editing photos in camera raw, software starts to spool and continues. Only way out is to push power button on iMac to turn it off.

Anybody got a better work flow for backing up multiple shoot day projects?

Many of my projects are shot over multiple days. I import media at the end of each day and back up the event to another drive before deleting media from cameras/cards. So on day 2 I have one of three work flows for updating my back-ups.
1. If I'm feeling lucky. I delete the previous back-up project from the back-up drive. And then make a new copy of the original event and add the date to the title after the word copy.
2. I make a new copy of the event to the backup drive and date it. When it's done copying and been verified I delete the back-up event from the same back-up drive.
3. I've just started copying new clips from the original media folder in the original event to the back-up project. It's more work keeping track of all the newly added media files and there is more chance of making an ommision.
Anybody got a better work flow for backing up multiple shoot day projects?

What you need:
You will need two identical external drives and a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner. CCC is free. The drives could be USB 2 if all you are doing is backing up. If you plan on editing with the drive(s), you'll want firewire. Each needs to be large enough to contain the raw card contents for the duration of your gig.
The Process:
At the end of the first day's recording, connect the two drives to your computer (if firewire, daisy chain them / if USB, you'll need two USB 2.0 ports)
On the first hard drive (Drive 1) create a folder - call it BigDealLecture
Inside of BigDealLecture, create a folder and use the nameing convention "BDL_Date_card number for that day" - so if you used 2 cards today, you should create BDL_2012-02-15_01 and BDL_2012-02-15_02
Attach your card reader or camera to the system.
Lock the cards so they can not be erased
Insert Card 1 into the reader
Select ALL contents of the card and copy them to the folder you created for the first card for today
When it is complete, eject the card, insert card 2, copy its contents to the folder for card 2
eject the card
Launch CCC and do a clone of Drive 1 to Drive 2. You can set it to do a complete block by block clone or an incremental backup. Either will work.
When finished cloning, test a random sample of the clips on both drives to make sure they work.
When satisfied the copies work, put Drive 2 in the hotel safe.
Put the Drive 1 in a place where you can grab it if there is an emergency in the night and erase the cards to get ready for the next day.
Take Drive 1 with you to the lecture site the next day.
Rinse and repeat daily.
When the conference is over, send one of the drives via FedEx or some other same day service to your office. Pack the second drive in your bags for the trip home.
A note: If you have enough downtime durning the conference between obligations, you can do the transfer from the cards to Drive 1 on site and do the clone when you get back to your room. Don't unlock and erase the cards until you are satisfied the copy/clone process was without incident.
