Red Circle with "1" appearing in iCal Icon in Doc

I've been using iCal for a year, and suddenly, today, I've got one of those red circles appearing, just like the kind that lets you know you've got new mail. What is it, why is it there, and how do I get rid of it? I can't find the source fo this weird occurence.

Hi Shelley,
Welcome to discussions.
It looks like someone has invited you to an event. In iCal click on the Show Notifications button (on the lower left of the window with a downward arrow). In here you should find a link to an event (IIRC), click on this and follow the prompts to respond to the invitee. The number should then disappear.
Best wishes

  • IOS 6.1.3 installed on iPad but no red circle with 1 on the Settings icon

    Hi,
Looking at an iPad to buy on ebay and specifically want to get one with version 6.1.3 still installed. I emailed seller, they sent pic of the About screen in Settings which shows it's on this version (also, it's an iPad 4th Gen, 128GB, if that helps), but in pics of the item, displaying the icons, on the Settings icon there is NO red circle with the 1 in it. Why would this be? I've never seen this before (everyone I know still on this version, on either iPhone or iPad, has this little red circle with the 1 in it, obviously indicating the update, which none of us diehards wanna do, til we absolutely have to of course). Does this mean that this iPad is NOT upgradeable, ever? Would love some help on this, don't want to purchase this iPad until I know why that red circle ISN'T there.
    Thanks!

    Hello mom_5_01,
The following article should be quite beneficial in your endeavor to update your iPad.
iPad: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097
You may encounter the following symptoms while updating or restoring your iPad:
iPad continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
An update or restore did not complete and the iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes.
iPad stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If this occurs, you can place iPad into recovery mode and attempt to restore again. If iTunes displayed an alert with an error code, see this article before attempting the steps outlined here.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • Red Circle With Number on Dock iPhoto icon

On the iphoto icon on Macbook dock there is a red circle with the number 1.  I searched, found out about invites, updates etcetera but, I do not know where these invites are and there are no updates. In notifications I unchecked the badge app icon in photo stream, but it is still there.
    Any help appreciated

I have a white 1 in a red circle on my iPhoto icon.
I clicked on the icon, went into iPhoto and then clicked on Photos.
Look at the photos in the iCloud section of the source list - the alert is caused by a shared photo stream. Somebody sent you a new photo in a shared stream or added a comment. Open the shared photo stream in iPhoto and read the comments to clear the alert.
Or disable the notifications for iCloud Photos in the "System Preferences > Notifications > Badge app icon"

  • My shows a red circle with a "X" in it and say to contact apple support

my shows a red circle with a "X" in it and say to contact apple support

You need to google iPod red circle with x or ask your question in the iPod forum. Judging from the amount of entries the red circle with x appears to be a fairly common problem with iPod classics.

  • There is a little red circle with a 2 in it over my iWeb icon

    Hi There,
I have a rather strange problem and I am a bit embarrassed by it, because I don't know what it means. Anyway when I open iWeb 09, there is a little red circle with a little number 2 in it appears over the iWeb launch-bar icon.
See this screenshot for a more detailed explanation: https://files.me.com/jasongtelford/otc2kg
Can someone please tell me what this means because I have looked every where and I cant find out. I am beginning to think that there might be something wrong with my iWeb
Also can you please tell me how to find whatever thing it is that it represents

Thanks so much for telling me. I have now figured it out thanks to you LOL it was to do with the comments on my blog

  • Red circle with a number in it on the icon.  What is it?

    Hi,
There is a red circle with the number 1 in it on the iCal icon on my Dock . Can't seem to figure out what it means. Does anyone know?
    Thanks
    Gerry

    Gerry,
That means that you have an event invitation. Click on the envelope icon in the bottom left corner of the iCal window to display the invitation and choose what to do with it.

  • IPod Classic 4th, desktop icon red circle with 'x'.

I've got an iPod Classic 4th, 20GB, which I use with my iMac G5. It works fine, I can add/remove music, and it syncs fine. However, whenever it's plugged in, and appears on my desktop, the desktop icon for the iPod shows a red circle with an 'x' on the screen, the same one you get on your actual iPod when it gives you the message: "Do not disconnect". It's not much of a problem, except the device didn't show in boot preferences either when I attempted to use it as an external HD in order to install panther on a partition. Any ideas what this symbol on the desktop icon could be?
    Thanks.

All you can do is try restoring the device. If you are unable to you'll most likely have to get the iPod repaired.

  • Unknown Icon: Red Circle with Feather Inside

I have an Icon that appears on the top of my Curve 8530 and I have no idea what it is for.  It is a red circle with a white feather inside of it and it shows up with either the number 1 or 2 next to it and then goes away after a bit.  It continues to come and go at various times.  Does anyone know what this is for?

  • Red circle with a "1" in it on App store icon

I first noticed this red circle with a 1 in it and understood from scanning the Discussion pages that it referred to an update pending for one of my downloaded apps. Sure enough, this was the case and I updated the app. However, the red circle is still there with a 1 in it. If I open the app store, the number disappears from the icon, but once I close the app store, the red circle comes back, still with a 1 in it. I have only ever downloaded three apps and none of them are for online games, which I gather can cause the appearance of such a red circle. Can anyone tell me what it means and how to get rid of it?

    Hi Ken ...
Try deleting the cache associated with the App store. Quit the App Store first if it's open.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Launch the App Store.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
BTW, when you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. Thank you!

    Hey Kelsieee,
First, I would try to resolve the issue with the ! in a circle that you're seeing in iTunes. There's some steps in the following article that go over what that ! usually means and how to fix it:

  • This is probably a stupid question, but what does the red circle with a number in it mean on iCal? It looks just like the emails notification. I do not have anything do or up in my cal.

Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.
Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

TThe Facebook app icon has a red circle with  number that increases every time my phone rings.  How do I clear it?

The Facebook app - or do you mean the Facetime app? The Facetime app will show all of the incoming phone calls if you are using the iPad for iPhone Cellular Calls. Settings>Facetime>iPhone Cellular Calls>On.
