Red Cyan 3D Stereoscopic (Anaglyph?)

Hi I have figured out how to turn a paid of images into a red cyan 3d image in photoshop cs4 now I am trying to do the same with a paid of videos in premiere cs3.
I have two cameras and am recording left eye and right eye videos but I can not figure out how to turn this into a 3d video in premiere
The closest I have come ends up being too dark of a video...
I put my left and right eye videos on track 1 and 2... I add adjust rgb color to each. on top vid I turn down blue and green to 0 on bottom i turn red down to 0 then i drop opacity of top video to 50% and nudge the bottom video over a bit. This works but the video loses too much color and is too dark for my liking.
I am sure there must be another way. I see videos on youtube that look so much better.
can anyone point to me a tutorial or tell me how to do what I am trying to do please? Make a 3d video that can be viewed with red cyan (blue) 3d glasses

I've been attempting the very same thing. Here's a method that I came up with but it has many flaws:
Assuming you've already created your left and right videos, convert them to filmstrip (.flm) files in premiere pro.
Bring the files into photoshop and proceed to create an anaglyph image as you would with any ordinary set of images.
(I use the method found here: http://nzphoto.tripod.com/sterea/anaglyph_make.html#cc)
Save the final flattened image as a .flm file and re-import into premiere pro.
This idea is clunky and comes with new problems at each step--you'll run into the same problems too--but I managed to make a short 30 second amber/blue anaglyphic video that doesn't look too shabby for my first attempt.
Let me know if you've come up with a better solution.

  • Youtube 3D defaults to side-by-side. Is red-cyan possible?

    Hi all,
Youtube has 3d content these days (possibly since ATV2 was designed).
I would like to watch this in red/cyan as I have a pair of red/cyan galsses (you have the option of a few modes of viewing when watching through your computer).
However, the only mode available on ATV seems to be side-by-side, which is useless (even by the standards of red/cyan 3d).
I assume this is a feature not currently supported by Apple.
Any thoughts on any way of accessing this content properly via apple tv?
    Thanks,

  • Nvidia 3D Vision Discover (Red/Cyan) Anaglyph on Thinkpad W530

Is the Thinkpad W530 capable of displaying anaglyph 3d?
According to computer test in the nvidia website, the W530 is capable http://systemrequirementslab.com/cyri_if/1066/0/8174
Giving the result below, but I have not been able to find the setup option in the Nvidia control Panel on windows 7 64-bit

I have "Enable 3D vision" and "Disable 3D vision" in my start menu, and under "Manage 3D settings" there are settings for Stereo Vision, but attempting to run the 3D preview results in an error stating "the primary display adapter does not support 3D vision"
Looks like it could also be the optimus

  • Anaglyph (cyan-red glasses) 3D in Acrobat 3D?

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to know if there'd be a way to see 3d content in a pdf 3d file with anaglyph 3d with red-cyan glasses in real time. Is there some code that we could enter in the 3d file to unable that or is there a plugin or something that could make that possible?
    Thanks,
    Julien Grimard

Hi, I think this should be possible, and I do intend to try it in October (busy until then). The approach I will take is to have two branches of the model tree, one called "left" and one called "right". Initially they are identical, and only contain red geometry. That is, there are duplicates of every element of the scene.
The rest of the solution requires JavaScript:
On just the *first* redraw, all the geometry in the right tree has its color changed to blue.
Then on *every* redraw event, all the geometry in the "right" branch of the tree has its position recalculated from the position of the matching element in the left tree (basically move it all left or right in the projection plane of the camera according to its distance from the camera).
Obviously on the first redraw one could instead duplicate the existing geometry tree so you wouldn't have to start with a doubled-tree.
If anyone wants to work on this together, eg. an expert in the JavaScript side, I can help with the necessary reprojection calculations etc.

  • What is the equivilant of the Cyan/Red slider?

I'm so used to the color balance tool, but I love that camera raw is so easy to change a large folder of images quickly without an action.
The whitle balance (is like blue/yellow slider), and the tint, (which is like the magenta/ green slider), there is no equivilant of the red/ cyan slider there?
Ditto same question for the white/ black points in the levels adjustment layer -- is there an equivilant of that in camera Raw? So nice to be able to quickly click on a white spot and see it everything becomes nuetral. Don't see that ability in Camera Raw, maybe I missed it. (assuming you did not take a grey card shot for the white balance tool).
Finally I remember, is it lightroom though that there were all these color sliders, very in depth, can't locate that now! thanks.

  • 3D anaglyphic no depth help

    Hi,
I have just ventured into the world of creating anaglyphs (3D red/cyan)
I can easily manipulate a photograph to get great results no problems.
Now I am actually implementing some 3D into a game ( you will have to use red/cyan glasses of course).
While I can create the backdrops etc to look awesome the problem comes when I try create another object and import it into the game.
    1) I create the static background export as a png, load into game  = perfect
    2) I create a single object export as png, load into game = no depth, just a blackish border around the object.
    3) If i create the object in photoshop turn it 3d and then duplicate the object and place in the background in photoshop it works fine.
So, is it possible to create a single object in 3d save as a png , do the same for a background, place the object on the background and get depth with the object?
I am thinking it may be to do with the channels and there opacity changing dynamically or something?
    thanks

    Hi,
yes I am well aware of parallax I use it all the time to get DOF etc, but 3d anaglyphic is different.
Perhaps I am getting my point across wrong.
    forget about the game issue.
    I create a 3d background  1000px x1000px export it as a png.
    I create another image 60px x 60px again in 3d.
I place the 60px x 60px image on the background image.
Why is the 3d effect not working properly with the 60px x 60px image? it has a halo around it(probably ghosting), but does look 3d somewhat.
It seems the red/cyan(separated in the channels) isn't working correctly.

  • Anaglyph 3D ghosting help

Hi, I'm creating red-cyan anaglyphs from black and white originals in photoshop with layers, then importing into FCP. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for reducing ghosting. Some photos come out fine, others are distracting. So far, the only tips I've found say to reduce the green in the cyan and then reduce contrast. Anyone else know of any proven methods?

  • I need the LR equivalent of the PS red slider in color balance

For some reason all my studio portraits need the red slider in PS to go down 6-10 points.  But I cannot figure out how to reproduce that in LR.  I've tried the camera calibration but it doesn't seem the same.  This is a HUGE problem for me.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm runing lr4 and cs6.  Thanks.

    adjohnson1414 wrote:
I just wish wish wish that LR had color balance sliders like PS.
As Tom Rockwell already mentioned the RGB Tone Curves will provide very similar capability PS's Color Balance sliders. Go to the Tone Curve, click on the small icon in the lower right corner of the panel, and select the 'Red' Channel. To emulate the "midtone" Red/ Cyan Color Balance slider grab the curve at the 50% point and lower it to decrease red midtones.
That said I would agree with Web Weaver that your White Balance is off for your studio lighting setup and suggest using the White Balance Sliders for correcting it. You can then save it as a Develop Preset using only White Balance and perhaps Camera Calibration 'Profile' settings checked. Using a white balance card or ColorChecker Passport (above) will give you much more accurate results.

Colors can be expressed by known name and by a hex value. The hex value format is widely used in HTML programming, and has a format of #abcdef, and "abcdef" can be values like aaddcc and so on. For some primary colors, you can get away with #abc, but that is not very common.
You should always design with Web-safe colors in mind. That limits you to 16, but should be plenty for most purposes (plus all 16 have known names like red, cyan, yellow, etc.).
http://www.w3schools.com/Html/html_colors.asp has a good explanation of the standards.

    Geoff the kiwi wrote:
How does the OP's green/magenta colouring equate to your stated red/cyan?
Well, it looks cyan to me. Here it is with saturation boost - assuming the OP made the screenshot correctly, assigning the display profile:
In any case, the Photoshop bug is well known and well documented, showing up as cyan shadow banding in ProPhoto files, when GPU is set to "Normal" or "Advanced" mode.
I'm not saying the display profile isn't involved, it most certainly is. The whole issue is the conversion into the display profile. And it also shows to varying degree with different display profiles - sometimes just subtle cyan bands, easily missed until you look for it, other times more pronounced and with secondary red banding (like here).
It also happens with sRGB as display profile. So the bug is real, no question about that.
What's different here is that there's cyan also in the highlights. But that could be the screenshot - or it could be "just" a bad display profile. I'm not ruling that out, just pointing out that there is a more likely explanation in this case.

  • Chromatic Aberration Removal in LR4 is terrible

I used a manual fixed focal length penatx lens on my Canon 40D and it shows chromatic aerration in the raw file. In LR4 all you can do is check the option to remove chromatic aberration. LR4 did an awful job making it even worse. See before and after image below. The chromatic aberration should have manual controls to adjust it to one's liking. Red/Cyan and Blue/Yellow sliders should be complemented by a Green/Magenta slider in the manual section. Now that would be an improvement on LR3. I loathe chromatic aberration which is unavoidable in many cases. More control over it's removal is a definite must. LR4 has gone backwards. I don't want to have to fiddle with profiles etc to fix this. Just put the controls that were in LR 3 back and add a green/magenta slider please.

I'll try the moire brush as suggested.
I am trying to emphasise the point that the software should be moving forward. That means new tools or upgrades should avoid adding artifacts as much as possible and certainly upgrades to existing tools should not perform worse than the original tool. I have found an example here where it does with chromatic aberration removal where an artifact is formed.
It's interesting that some of the commentary above almost suggests that chromatic aberration removal should be an adjustment brush. The user could then isolate the edges that he/she wants to remove the coloured fringes from. Then there should be the ability to choose which colour shifts are required red/cyan, blue/yellow, or green/magenta.
It looks like the current tool may improve some edges while making others worse. If checking the choice of automatic aberration correction doesn't work - then one has to go to another external editor to fix the problem - not the most satisfactory result of an upgrade. I like the suggestion in another thread of having both the option of auto and manual control options - much like exposure control. Photographers like manual control of image enhancements.
I have chosen to take pictures that have extreme aberrations to test the robustness of the tool. I have shot pictures with high contrast lighting, with older cheaper glass, and with the aperture wide open. I'll try to get some pictures to Eric as mentioned above.

  • Blending similar colours into a solid colour?

I've scanned a map (actually a nautical chart) that I want to print; see link below to a very small portion of the RGB 8-bit/Chan image.
    http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j54/nigelmercier/sample_zps69cffb91.png~original
In this I can identify white, yellow, cyan, light-cyan green, dark-green, black, red, red+cyan, red+green... The main image has a few more.
The large areas of colour have a mottled appearance, where there is a variation. I've used Smart Blur to reduce this considerably, but I'd like to impove it if possible. Is there a way to remove the colour variations? I've tried posterising, but it is too agressive, and I would need to adjust the cut-off points.

Just off the top of my head: You might try a very careful use of Select > Color Range, Feather the edges a bit (to try and avoid the posterizing effect), and then replace the selection with a solid color.
Just be careful that Color Range doesn't grab close-color objects you don't want to change.

  • Colour Balance

    Hi,
I'm looking for a set of controls in Aperture that approximates the 'Colour Balance' option in Photoshop. I saved an action in Photoshop that I used to warm my shots.
My setting in photoshop was to drag the Red/Cyan balance slightly to Red and the Yellow/Blue balance slightly to the Yellow, which produced a nice, rounded warmth.
In Aperture, despite detailed colour controls, I can't seem to find one that adjusts the balance in the same way. They are all individually adjusted for Saturation and Luminance etc...
The white balance tool in Aperture doesn't really offer the same control. Its a bit like Colour Balance in PS but without the Cyan/Red & Magenta/Green sliders
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

Yea the wheels themselves take a delicate touch - they really were meant as correction tools to be used with the droppers to neutralize a cast.
Just remember you beginning color theory to get the effect you want with the mid sliders and then save your adjustment as a preset template on a template image - Ian Wood has a writeup on his site if you do not know what I mean.
I remember when this digital thing came along and all of my clients would freak if I sent them an RGB vs CMYK - they had CMYK wired into their print oriented brains.
