Red exclamation point when booting

My Apple Watch, 38mm sport, displays a red exclamation point. It seem frozen after I tried to re-associate it with my iPhone. I've been struggling the whole day to reboot it pressing both digital crown and side button, following instructions on www.apple.com/help/watch. Am I lucky enough to have to ask Apple to ship me a replacement in 2 months? Any help would be highly appreciated.
BTW: I'm not the only one encountering the same issue. Do you guys form Apple looking into this? I don't believe this is related to hardware.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1873459

I spoke to a senior Apple tech named Patrick the other night because, after setting up my iPhone as a new phone (iPhone 6, as the genius in the Walnut Creek store suggested when I ran into GPS problems with the Watch)- I could not pair back to my watch.
Patrick was really great, walked me though everything (the "reset" at the bottom of the Settings -> General on the Watch - duh!); the way you can un-pair the Apple Watch (iPhone Watch app ->My Watch -> Apple Watch -> unpair Apple Watch, which is probably what I should have done first) - the tip that if you're talking to someone on the LTE network and trying to pair (as I was with him), it may not work as well as if you're just on wireless (he called back on my husband's phone)
Great tech assistance, I'd call them in a heartbeat.  Faster than heading back to the store!

  • I have iPhoto 09 The cover of my book is cropped is perfect on screen but when I print it out it's cropped badly. There is a red exclamation point on the screen image but I have created 5 books and never had this problem. HELP

I am using iPhoto 9 to make a book. The cover of my new book looks perfect on screen, but when print it out before I have it published the cropping is all off. There is also a red exclamation point on the cover image. I have checked and rechecked but to no avail. Can you help? Bill Perlmutter

That red exclamation point can mean either that the image on the cover is below the resolution limit that Apple has set for photos to make good prints or that there is missing text in a text box or there's some text that has overflowed the text box.
The resolution limit that is set in iPhoto for photos is 110 dpi, i.e. the PrintWarningImageDPI value in this screenshot of iPhoto's preference file:
It's not an absolute thing.  Many have reported getting books that had photos with the low resolution warning indicator and it was perfectly satisfactory.
But check to see if it's an image or text warning.

  • How to find files when my purchased and downloaded songs have red exclamation point and say file cannpot be found?

I recently replaced my PC and when I attempted to reinstall Itunes and sync to my Ipod Classic, many purchased songs and downloaded songs now have a red exclamation point to their left and a windo appears saying that the file cannot be found.  How do I locate these files? Thanks!

Normally by default  iTunes library files are in "My Document/My music/iTunes/Itunes Music" for earlier iTunes version. but the newer iTunes put it in a new folder "iTunes Media" instead of "iTunes Music" You can also search a music file name that you downlloaded and see where that folder is.
If you have transfered the old PC iTunes library files to your new PC, you still need to tell the new iTunes, where they are located. If your old PC iTunes is earlier than iTunes 9, then you got to move it from ../iTunes Music to ../iTunes Media folder. and point iTunes to where all your files are.

  • Log and Transfer: Red exclamation points are attacking our project!

We are shooting a documentary with a HVX and a Firestore in 720p/24p. Every shoot, we move the files from the Firestore to the hard drive. We then log and transfer off of the drive to a G-Raid scratch disk.
Up until the other day, we were having no problems "logging and transferring". For some reason, we are now able to play and label the clip, but when we go to "add clip to queue" a red exclamation point keeps coming up.
This is inclusive of old and new footage. I have tried to change the length of the file names as well as restart Final Cut as well as the drives.
I know you guys are much smarter than we are, so we are looking forward to your wisdom.

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop on Mavericks logs out and has a red exclamation point.

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro with OS Mavericks on it. Since then, I can log into Creative Cloud desktop with no issues and use the app. But once my laptop goes to sleep and I wake it up, I will have a red exclamation point on the icon in the menu bar. If I click on the icon in the menu bar it will tell me the problem is with apps and if I click on apps it will eventually update and the red exclamation point will go away. But sometimes, when I click on the creative cloud icon in the menu bar it will say there is a problem with the connection and allows me to retry which will eventually get me back in or sometimes it will have just logged me out and I have to log back in.
It never did this before, I was able to just log in once and it would always be logged in and no network problems.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

I had similiar problem and i just stopped using Creative Cloud desktop. There's lot of other issues with that application that cannot be fixed since July.
I doubt that this application was created by some who ever worked on Mac. That's why i would recommend patience and disabling launching at start.

  • Fuzzy Exclamation Point when I pick a picture

Hi. I just upgraded to a MBP 15 inch from a G5 iMAC running Tiger 10.4.11. I moved my iPHoto library to an external hard drive, then moved that to the MBP. After openning the iPhoto 09 on the MBP, the library seemed nicely intact. when I look at albums, I see my photos. In the left bottom corner of most of the photos is a small exclamation point. when I click on the pictures to do something with them (crop, change image settings, etc.) the photo is present for split second and then I get a fuzzy exclammation point (black) on a fuzzy white circular field which itself is on a black field.
    Why is iPhoto doing this?
Any explanations and thoughts on how to fix this?
    Thanks, Andy

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try rebuilding the database. Hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose the top three options.
    If that fails:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Exclamation Point when editing

Recently I have started getting a black screen with a large exclamation point when I try to edit certain pictures. Don't know why this is happening. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I had this same problem, searched here, and found this advice. In the end, I did something else, and I'll tell you what and why.
Only a handful of my ~3200 photos had this problem, about a dozen total, in three events. Within each event, the photos that had this problem were mostly sequential, but the events themselves were not sequential either in when they were taken or when they were imported into iPhoto. I verified that only a small number had this problem by picking the very first photo in the Photos display, zooming it, and manually stepping through each photo (by pressing the right arrow key).
I tried Option 1, but that did not solve the problem. After trying it exactly as described (rebuilding), I then tried all the other options, too; nothing worked. So, I tried Option 2. That did solve the problem. However, I had two problems with this solution: 1. My MobileMe galleries were not brought over. 2. All photos were unhidden in the new library; the hidden setting is apparently not brought over by the iPhoto Library Manager program. I did not like the idea of having to go through all those photos, one by one, to study each one again and compare to other similar shots, determine the best one, hide the other redundant shots, etc.
It's quite an interesting story of how I came by this solution, but I'll keep this short by skipping to the end. After a bit of poking around and trial and error, I discovered that for each photo with this problem, I could simply "revert to original". This isn't really a true solution, because it doesn't restore the link between the thumbnail and the full-size image; it's more of a workaround. But as far as I could determine, the edited full-size image files were not in the iPhoto library file. For me, since this problem only affected a very small number of photos (about a dozen), it seemed a much simpler thing for me to just revert and edit again, than to go through the new library and figure out, out of ~3200 photos, which ones to hide. (Especially since most of my edits were just crops.)
I don't know if it was a fortunate coincidence for me that this problem only occurred for photos that had been edited, or if this type of problem only occurs for edited photos. But if it can occur for non-edited photos, then obviously the "revert to original" trick won't work.

  • I'm having trouble texting from my IPAD. Sometimes it looks like its searching and other times I get a red exclamation point.

I'm having trouble texting from my IPAD 2. Most of the time it looks like its searching or I get a red exclamation point.
I was only able to send 2 texts. Help!

iPads cant send regular texts - only through iMessage meaning that the other device will need to have iMessage too.
If you can't send a text that means the other person does not have iMessage and iMessage is only installed on iOS devices or OSX Lion

  • Ipod shows file w/ exclamation point when connecting

i recently have been receiving the file icon with an exclamation point on my ipod. i have finally successfully restored my ipod and now whenever i connect it to my computer it shows the icon again and freezes itunes(it's been freezing itunes before i restored it). i have pretty much tried every option to my knowledge. also, when i open My Computer it freezes as well, until i unplug the ipod. when i plug it into my external power outlet it also shows the file icon. right now it is fully restored but i am afraid to plug it into my computer since it was so difficult just to get itunes to unfreeze and restore it.

It is probably a hard drive failure of the iPod, but try to read the following, and see if it helps
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    http://www.ifixit.com/
    http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/g4-ipod-parts.html
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote
