Red eye still purple in Aperture 3. iPhoto 09 much better.
Subject says it all.

I'm having the same issue here. I don't use iPhoto, but just moved from A2 to A3. Non of my existing red eye adjustments appear to work, and I can't get the tool to work at all on any images. This is very frustrating, asnd hopefully fixed in a patch. A2 red eye tool worked perfectly.

I have been using iPhoto as well as my iMac for just over 2 years and like iPhot and love my Mac. However, I want a program that is a little better that iPhoto and I thought that Aperture 3 was my next step. After reading a lot of the comments on Aperture 3 I find it a little confusing why one would want to use both programs rather that just upgrading to the better one and using it exclusively. Maybe I'm missing something here, so could someone please clue me in.
here is a link to the trial:
Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.
Also have a look at the tutorials and the manual on the Aperture support page.

IPhoto hangs after using Red Eye tool
when I go into edit mode on an image, then use the Red Eye tool, then click Done, my iPhoto just hangs there with the pinwheel turning. other edits seem to work fine when do them and hit Done, but red eye always seems to cause a freeze. does anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance!

What it means is that something in your library is at fault...
So, let's move the pics across to the new library...
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use it to move the albums and events across.
After you move a bunch of events, make sure that the red-eye is still working. If you find that after a while it stops working, then we'll be a lot closer to narrowing down the culprit.

I have a friend who's Macbook is acting a bit weird. In iPhoto 08 if you try to edit the red eye, after a few photos it'll starting doing one eye okay (the left) but then completely miss the other one, putting a black splotch above the eye or to the side of the eye. It's not because of aiming incorrectly.
Also although this isn't the right place to post, iMovie 06 won't let her edit the audio in timeline view. The little markers that enable you to drag the volume down aren't there when you click, for some reason. Not major things but little bugs...
All the latest updates have been installed and I've also done things like deleting the plist and even done an Archive Install for her but iPhoto red eye still doesn't work right. Haven't checked iMovie 06 yet but maybe will tomorrow.Have you run the latest updates for the iLife 08 apps? If so reinstall iPhoto and update the the lastest, 7.1, followed by a repair of disk permissions.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Hi all,
I am using Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 and can seem to find a way to correct red eye on photos. Any ideas?
Thanks much!!
Regine GoerkeIn the Edit menu when you select the 'Fix Photo Window' option, it will show you 3 type of fixes- General, Crop and Red Eye. You can select the Red eye option to correct the Red Eye on Photos. The same can also be selected from the Fix button in the top toolbar.Let us know if that worked.

Aperture makes eye purple with Red Eye Correction tool. Why? Bug?
http://www.hvmediasolutions.com/images/picture1.png
As you can see with the above picture, Aperture does not do red eye well. iPhoto gets it right, actually as well as Photoshop CS4.
Any suggestions? Or is this a bug?
And yes I could use Photoshop every time, but I am trying to do as much as I can in Aperture.
Thanks,
EdI have an old camera, Nikon Cool Pix 3100 and save my photos to .jpg. Yes I know, time to upgrade.
I capture straight into Aperture.
The thing that bugs me, iPhoto 08 gets it right, better than Photoshop. Aperture, since version 1, has always given me purple red eye cast on both Intel and Power PC Mac Book Pro's. Since iPhoto can get it right, Aperture should be able to.
Currently I use Pixelmator and desaturate with the brush tool for the best results.
By the way Lightroom 2 desaturates the eye to a light grey with it's red eye tool.
Different results with 4 different applications. I would love to just use one.

Aperture Red Eye Adjustments do not show up in preview
I generally use the zoom viewer to make my red eye adjustments; however, when I'm done adjusting and I zoom out, the viewer doesn't reflect the red-eye adjustments. Sometimes the adjustment on one eye will look correct but the other eye is still partially or completely red. When zooming back in, it looks correct.
I recently switched from iPhoto and had never seen this kind of behavior.
Any help would be appreciated, it's driving me kind of nuts.In List or Grid, the image as you note is generated from the Thumbnail. The Viewer image starts as the Thumbnail blown up and ugly, then the Preview jpg image kicks in. Finally the rendered master/version with all adjustments should replace the Preview. I say should as it might be possible in your case the Preview is not being replaced. Worth checking.

Auto Fix Red-Eye in Aperture?
Hello,
I'm a newbie to Aperture and I was just trying to figure out where in Aperture can I fix red-eye automatically [similar to how it is done in iPhoto 11]? I realize that I can fix the red eyes manually, but is there a simple button that I can push that will automatically fix the red eyes in a photograph? This feature is really nice in iPhoto 11 as it will fix 99% of the red-eyes, etc. Just hoping there is a similar feature in Aperture.
Thanks for your help!!!Thanks for the response Frank. I was afraid that this may be the answer. No issue, I'm just surprised that it's not available especially with all the bells and whistles that Aperture offers.
Thanks again for your help! -
I read a useful hint in Macworld Nov 06 for editing red eye in iPhoto '06, which gave one the option of the degree of intensity in the color change. I do not seem to be able to do with iPhoto '08. Does anyone know if the old work-around is still workable in '08?
GeraldineNo. The only control over the red eye correction in iPhoto 08 is the size of the spot used. That would be a good feature request to make at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -

In iphoto 6.06 I make the red eye changes, it appears to have worked, but when I open the pic again the red eye is back.Advice?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Intensity of Red Eye Correction in iPhoto 6
The red eye tool in iPhoto is too intense. It's turning eyes black. Does anyone have a fix for this? I found the red-eye tool in iPhoto 5 to be much more natural looking. BJTCE
If you have Photoshop, try this method:
http://web.mac.com/tigershark/iWeb/macplumber/Blog/E82680DD-8D1E-4D9F-856D-3CF35 FAE50C8.html -
IPhoto 6 Red Eye Corrections Do Not Remain Saved
Can anyone tell me why photos that have been corrected for red-eye and saved revert back to red eye when uploaded to my blog? The photo in my library is corrected, but when I uploaded it to my blog it was back to the way it was before fixing. Is there a bug in iPhoto 6? How do I fix this? Thanks.
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It sounds like you are uploading the original, uncorrected photo. If you are choosing the photos directly via the iPhoto Library Folder, then that is how you are grabbing the wrong version. This method is not recommended for several reasons. First, because it is inconvenient to wade through the folder system and find the correct version. Second and more importantly, because any changes you make to the files and folders directly inside that folder will damage your iPhoto library.
Instead, export the photos first. When you export, iPhoto automatically gives you the correct (edited) version. The easiest way is to select the photos and simply drag to a folder your desktop. Select that folder when you upload to your blog or other website, then trash it (the photos are safe inside your library). Another method is to select the photos and do File > Export > File Export to a desktop folder. This method allows you to rename the exported files and resize them for better performance on the website.

Has red eye reduction improved in iPhoto 8.0
Is red eye reduction any better in iPhoto '08 than it was in previous versions?
I'm currently using iPhoto 6, and when I use red eye reduction it often makes a big gray splotch over the whole eye, including the eyelids! It's just very inaccurate and make the pictures look almost worse than they did with the red eye.
Is iPhoto '08 any better at this, or should I turn to another tool like Photoshop Elements? Is there any freeware that would do it?The only freeware that I know of that might do the job as well as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements is Gimp. It's an open source application that is much like Photoshop but requires installing Apple's Xcode 11 (which is also free). I've not used it but it's touted as being much like Photoshop.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Why does my iPhoto red eye reduction tool only give me blue or black blobs in the eyeballs that look completely unacceptable? Automatic mode makes blue blobs that cover iris and even eyelid! Manual mode gives black dots, not at all hte shape of a oerson's iris as seen in a picture.
And again the answer is simply
THere is no fix - that is the way it works - you can post as many times as you want but it will not change the fact that that is the way that iPhoto works
No fix
No work around
It is what it is - nothing more - nothing less
