Red Eye Tool Not Allowing me to Open

I followed the instructions in iPhoto Help, Double Click the Library Photo, Edit Button, Zoom, etc. But the " RED EYE Button " is grayed out and does not allow it to open/work, just the Enhance and the Touch Up buttons are black and allow me to use them. The photo I want to reduce the red eye is clearly RED, if that makes any difference.

Eric:
You have to select the eye before the button is accessible. You select the eye and then click on the button.

  • Red eye tool not available

    I'm using iPhoto 4.0.3 on my G5. When I open iPhoto the enhance tool and retouch tool are available, but the red eye tool is grey and is not able to be activated by clicking on it. How can I make the red eye tool work?

    Have you tried making a selection of the area that needs the red-eye correction? iPhoto is good, but it really has no way to tell where (or even, whether) eyes are depicted in an image, Slap a marquis around the carnation in a photo depicting nothing but a flower arrangement, and it will gladly remove the red.

  • Red eye tool not working

    Since I reinstalled Aperture 3 on my new iMac, I cannot get the red eye tool to work. I get the circles around the eyes, but nothing happens... I looked for settings or something, but found nothing to solve my problem...

    Yes, I am using the right tool. I have been using this tool in Aperture for a long time. In fact, it works fine on my older iMac. I imported the same photo in both iMacs. It corrects fine on my old iMac (2008), but it does nothing on my new 2013 iMac.
    Both are running the same version of Aperture (3.5) and both systems are also running on Mavericks.
    I noticed a difference in the build of the digital camera RAW, but I would be surprised that that would influence a feature like the red eye tool...

    What tools do you see in the flyout menu?

    What happens if you use Shift+J to cycle through the 4 tools in that slot in the toolbox?

  • My red eye tool is not working!

    I am using PSE on a MacBook running OS X Lion.  I am trying to remove red eye from some photos that I took and I used all three methods without succuss.  I clicked the auto choice from the menu and the photo did not change.  I clicked the tool on the toolbar and clicked the eye and nothing happened.  Finally, I selected the eye and the selection would not stay around the eye.  When I moved the mouse the selection disappeared.   What am I doing wrong?

    It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong--theoretically the selection disappears and PSE fixes the red eye. But the red eye tool doesn't work on every kind of eye problem (not well on blown out eyes and not at all on pet eye, for example).

  • Red Eye Adjustment not saved (completely)

    After upgrading my library, I tried editing some photos.
    On one, I made red-eye adjustment that looked just fine--that is until I saved the edit. Once saved, the red-eye correction was different (and not as complete) as I had seen in the edit window. Some of the corrections were good, but one I could not get to save properly!
    Anyone else having this problem? Or better yet, know of a workaround or fix?

    I'm having the exact same thing. I make red-eye adjustments, it says it's saving, but the red-eye tool changes are NOT saved. Here are some things I've tried doing before re-trying the red-eye tool, none of which have fixed the problem:
    1. Making other edits in iPhoto and saving them first.
    2. Making other edits in photoshop and saving them first.
    3. Duplicating the image in iPhoto.
    4. Reverting to original and starting over.
    5. Exporting the photo and re-importing it.
    6. Exporting the photo, editing it in Photoshop, and reimporting it.
    7. Exporting the original TIFF, converting to PNG, and re-importing it.
    8. Exporting the original TIFF, converting to JPEG, and re-importing it.
    9. Exporting the TIFF, scaling it down slightly, and re-importing it.
    10. Cropping it.
    11. Exporting as TIFF, downsizing to 2,000 pixels wide, and re-importing it.
    Here's what did work:
    - Exporting it as a jpeg scaled down from 3004 pixels wide to 2000 pixels wide and re-importing it.
    - Exporting as a TIFF, scaling down to 1000 pixels wide, and reimporting it.
    NOTE that scaling it down to a 2000 pixel wide JPEG allows the edit to work, but scaling down to a 2000 pixel TIFF does NOT! Yet scaling it down further as a TIFF does work! I also tried scaling it down just slightly as a JPEG- from 3004 to 3000 pixels, which did NOT work.
    I have no idea what's going on, but it's sure annoying. The red eye tool makes perfect adjustments, and then anytime I leave that image and go back to it, the changes are not there, despite iPhoto saying "saving changes."
    I'd be glad to send a test image this happens to to Apple, if anyone wants it, because this is definitely a bug, and an annoying one. It doesn't happen with most images, so if Apple doesn't happen to have an image around that this happens to, they won't be able to re-create the bug for testing.

  • CS3 Raw Retouching & Red Eye Tool Missing

    So I've been using the CS3 Beta and love it but when I open up my Raw images eager to use the retouching tool to get rid of dust from the sensor, the tool isn't there, nor is the red eye tool. It looks like its the raw interface from CS2 even though I opened the raw files from CS3. Any ideas on what's going wrong?

    "I can see that you can set the destination for all the shots at once, but don't you then have to go through all shots and individually tailor the source for each? "
    No...here's the logic-as long as you don't actually MOVE the source, each image will have the source auto-selected while healing the destination. Pretty swift actually (thanks T & Z). If you DO move the source, then the moved source is used in all the images...so there's two way to play it. Let the auto-source select work and all the resulting images will be auto-source on a per image basis or select a custom source and all the images will then be manually set.
    And, it work very well. It's conceivable that some images may need individual source selections moved...I've found it's useful to review images after the healing has been distributed to multiple images.
    I've also found it's useful to segregate what is a repeating spot from a one image tweak. So, if you are shooting portraits for example, unless you have registration, the odds are that blemishes will need to be done on a shot by shot basis not done to one and distributed...since the odds of the blemish aligning frame to frame is nil.
    So, do the shared healing amongst all the images where the same spot is in registration and then go back image by image for specific touches.

  • Red Eye Tool

    I recently tried to remove some red-eyes in some pictures I took. When I clicked on the photo, it made a black circle around the eye, like a black-eye on the photo. Any ideas what might be causing this? I have used the red-eye tool in the past and not had this problem.

    Craig,
    You can change the curser into a circle, which you can resize to match the pupil exactly. It helps to zoom in all the way on the photo after you enter edit mode.
    Type Caps lockControl9
    Undo caps lock
    Click on the Red-Eye Removal tool.
    The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle for Red-Eye removal tool and between darken and lighten in the Retouch tool.
    The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
    To get a lighter correction, Shift-click in the eye.
    NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the Retouch tool imparts on each pass.
    Thanks to Old Toad for passing along this trick. I find that it often works better than the red-eye correction in Photoshop Elements.

  • Red Eye Tool Problem

    When I go to use the Red Eye tool (LR_v10) , the pupil size and darken sliders are greyed out and don't function.
    I can box in the red eye, but since both sliders are locked to the left (minimum) the tool does not work.
    Has anyone else seen this and is there any fixes or workarounds?
    Pookie_butt

    Sometimes temporarily lightening (Exposure) will help to get Red Eye working. Then you can reset the exposure.

  • Red Eye Tool doesn't work in ACR 4.1

    The Red Eye tool doesn't work on my computer in Camera Raw 4.1/Bridge. When I choose it, the Pupil Size and Darken sliders appear but nothing happens when you try a correction. If I open the same image in Photoshop CS3, the Red Eye control works fine. How can I get it to work in in ACR?

    Ramon is right. Best to select the whole eye (even eyebrow) and you'll get the overlay box around the red. If it doesn't entirely cover the red (or if it box bounds some reddish eyelids) you can click and drag to widen(lessen) or lengthen the box and change the 'pupil size'. And so far I haven't found any, even bright, redeyes where the 'darken' control won't get a good dark result. [Animals (green/yellow eyes) are a different story.] Sometimes going too dark will also darken the irises. With the 'show overlay' unchecked you can drag the 'fix' off the eye onto the cheek to see the pattern - dark in the center and then a gradient fade of dark going out from center. "Clear all" clears all of course and you can start over.

  • Illustrator CC - Tools not allowing access to drop-down options

    Illustrator CC - Tools not allowing access to drop-down options
    For example, I want to change the shape from rectangle to an oval, the press and hold on the rectangle shape (by default) will not give access to other shape options.  Or, for another example, the text tool won't allow access to type on path options.
    Can anyone help me out on this? I running a very new PC and Illustrator CC (latest copy).
    Thanks,
    BK

    BK,
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Missing red eye tool in photoshop 7.0

    I used to have the red eye tool (picture of an eye with a plus sign to the left of it) in my toolbox, but after reinstalling photoshop on my new computer it is gone.
    It is NOT under the band-aid tool. when i right click on the band-aid tool only 2 things come up: the healing brush and the patch tool.
    any ideas how to get it back???

    I had the tool before I switched computers, so I am hopefully there is a way to do it.
    The tool was a one step fix and the one on graphic soft takes numerous steps which don't look as natural.
    thanks for the advice though.

    Try this now.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
