Red flashing over my keyed video footage

I'm fairly new to AE, and I have had some problems after keying video footage.
I have keyed my footage as prescribed in the adobe tutorial that is available on this site, using Keylight 1.2. This has worked fine removed my blue background and the presenter looks really clean etc.
The problem that I have is that I have noticed once it has been rendered is that I am getting the image turn red a couple of times during the footage just for a split second. It also only changes the area red that I used the pen and rotobezier tool to mark round the image before I keyed it.
I know that the description of what is going wrong for me isn't the best, but if anyone has had anything similar or knows what I'm talking about then I could really so with some help to stop it from happening.
Cheers
Matt

Have you downloaded the Keylight updates from The Foundry wensite? There were a few bugs in the plugin that only got fixed after CS3 was released. You may also wish to pre-compose your masked layer to avoid the flickering. If this changes the result too much (as Keylight will respond to the missing areas that affect its formula), add a blue solid in the pre-comp thast matches the average key color.

  • Green screen appears when I freeze frame chroma key video footage

I need to create a jpg/still image of the video I am producing. The video was shot with a green screen and edited with the chroma key effect and looks fine - but when I "Make a Freeze Frame" the green screen reappears in the image. Help!?

    That should not happen.
Even if your sequence is unrendered or the clip wth the chroma key is selected on the timeline, it will normally export correctly.
    Next step...
    Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

  • Errors and Red Flashes with MXF files

Hi all and Adobe, this is the third time i have posted hear about this and it is now getting very serious as the problem is affecting my income as I run a small one man video production business.
When I encode video that has any MXF file in the timeline, and most of my projects do as I generally am editing two to three camera shoots with one of the cameras being a Canon XF300.
I get many errors, and multiple red flashes in the encoded video.
I run all of my Adobe CC applications on a 2013 iMac 27" 3.5 Intel Core i7 32 gig Ram Nvidia GeForce GTX 780m 4096MB
There is no bottleneck regarding disk drive as I am using a dedicated GRaid 8TB Thunderbolt drive.
I first ran into this problem within a week of upgrading to the latest Premiere Pro CC 8.1 Caravan. I then noticed it when using Media Encoder when encoding both Premiere and After Effects projects Smith MXF files involved.
I at first thought the problem may have been corrupted cache file so deleted them all and re conformed. I even uninstalled Premiere cleaned out all relevant directories then reinstalled.
No matter what I tried the problem will not go away.
I went online and noticed in many forums people complaining about the same problem and coincidently most seem to have the problem appear since the last upgrade.
I then rang support and after a very long wait spoke to a man who advised I need to select Cuda in the GPU settings and delete all previews, so I did this while on the phone to him then started encoding a project and to my delight no errors.
I was so excited I jumped on here to tell another person who had a similar problem the solution.
But then within a day the errors were back and with vengeance, at the end of one of my last encodes yesterday I had an error log window that filled an iMac 27" screen not good.
I then rang support again and as with the previous call a long wait ensured.
After explaining my problem and indicating the discussion I had with the previous support person he indicated that Adobe was aware of this problem and they were trying to fix it.
He suggested a work around and that was to encode only using the Mercury software not any GPU settings.
So off I went and encoded the same project and guess what happened, more errors many errors.
Also please note to be thorough I tried encoding a project from 2013 that has worked perfectly before on previous versions of Premiere but as soon as it is loaded into this version the errors appear.
I also wish to bring to attention the abysmal support mechanism Adobe has established.
There seems to be no way to fast track serious problems.
I and many people like me need this problem solved as we rely on Adobe for our living.
If this continues for much longer I will have to reconsider my investment in the Adobe CC product.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards, Cliff elliott

Over the last couple of hours I tried an experiment using the same project which contains a two camera edits containing video from Canon XF300 and XHA1 cameras.
The experiment was to encode out form the project on three separate Macs.
As I have explained in the first post my main Machine the 2013 iMac gives errors on any setting including GPU selections.
I then tried it on an older iMac a 2010 model 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 which has an ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB GPU and the same problem occurs.
Next came an old Mac Book Pro 2011 that does not have GPU support. The project rendered without any errors but took about so long compared to the 2013 iMac which is to be expected.
So the problem seems to be related to the relationship between Premiere and the GPU's.
I hope this helps the Adobe engineers sort this out.

  • Red Flashes in MXF video

Hi I am having major problems with red frames appearing at random in video i edit that is from my Canon XF300 camera. This problem has appeared since the last upgrade. I have never had this problem before and have been testing old video from before the upgrade and new video shot recently with the same problem. I need a solution to this problem as I run a business and cannot send my customers video with red flash in it. I have been tying to find a way to contact Adobe but there seems to be no direct way of communicating.
I have been monitoring this for some time now and have tried a number of solutions my self like updating to the latest Canon XF utility to no avail.
Here is a list of errors that have occurred over the last few weeks from different projects.

  • Issue with video footage in Flash Pro 8

Hi everyone! I'm in the process of making a video reel flash
animation and I'm experiencing a problem. The animation itself
loops continuously and seamlessly, but the videos inside the
animation do not. Each video is about 17 seconds long, so once the
animation reaches the 17 second mark, the videos stop playing. Only
the first frame from each video shows up while the rest of the
    animation keeps going!
ANY thoughts or suggestions on how to get the videos
themselves to loop would be very much appreciated.
By the way, I turned the videos into a movie clip symbol in
order to get the infinite scrolling effect (refer to
    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/infinite.htm).
Maybe this can't be done successfully with actual video footage?
    Thanks!
    Nicole

Get it out of the movieclip - start over its easier...
Give the component an instance name like vid and use this
code on the frame it sits on:
    var vidList : Object = new Object();
    vidList.complete = function() {
    vid.play();
    vid.addEventListener ("complete",vidList);

I have marked some video cuts for removing, and want to activate them again and take away the marking (a red line over the thumbnails). How do I do that?

In the middle tool bar, near the Reject Tool that you used to make the red marks, there should be an "Un-Mark" Tool. Select this tool and you can erase the red marks. It should look like an empty star.
YOu can select "View Rejected Only" to make sure you get them all.

  • My BB won't turn on the red light flashes and the key's light up

    Hi
I have read all posts relating to my problem, but one thing my BB won't do is resgister on my computer.  The phone will not turn on, has the red light flashing and the keys light up, but the screen will not come on.  I have tried taking the battery out, charging it all night, all the recommended/ideas from this sight, but no joy.  I have only had this phone since July last year.  I haven't been able to try updating phone etc as it won't register on my or my husbands computer please help
    Louise

    Hi,
The way you presented it made me think it had just happened.
So you have had the phone since July has it ever worked?
Most likely you are missing some or all of your device OS and you'll need to reload the device.
Because the phone can't generate enough signal you will have to "force detect it". I've attached the link below. If you want to proceed I'll need what version of Device OS and what version of desktop manager software.

  • Photos within video footage go crazy

I have some video footage from a recent trip and I included pictures from the trip in between video clips. Within iMovie the movie plays fine, but when I export it the pictures play very strangely. One picture will come on-screen briefly, then flash back to a previous picture from the movie. This happens 3 or 4 times when the picture is supposed to be on-screen.
I wonder if how I imported the pictures is a problem? I would import within iMovie from an iPhoto album, which put the picture at the end of my movie. Then I would "cut" the picture, move the timeline to where I wanted to insert the picture and paste it there. Doesn't sound too difficult, does it?
As a test I created a brand new movie and dragged the entire iPhoto album folder into the timeline. I added a Ken Burns effect to one picture and a cross dissolve between two pictures,* then exported it. In the resulting movie, the first picture does the Ken Burns thing, cross disolves to the second picture (which is very blurry) and the third picture cycles between it and the second picture, just like in my problem movie. But the remaining pictures play fine.
The movies (AVI: M-JPEG, DVI ADPCM) and pictures (JPEG) are from my digital camera.
    Anyone know what's going on?
(* In my original movie there are no dissolves or effects from pictures to footage or vice versa.)

Another update (since it seems like I'm the only one in the world to experience this problem):
I tried two other iMacs, one running 10.4.11 like me and another running Leopard. Using iMovie HD I created a new movie, imported some pictures and exported the movie. Everything worked fine.
I went back to my machine and deleted the iMovie .plist file. I tried the same test with pictures on my old test movie. It didn't work. I created a brand new movie, which worked. I went back to my original movie and pulled out some pictures, insert other, etc. Nothing worked.
So maybe the movie gets into a strange state and won't export image-to-DV clips correctly. I think I can solve this two ways:
    - create a brand new movie and copy all the old movie's clips over
    - export the pictures I'm interested in as an iPhoto slideshow and import that into iMovie, then chop it up picture by picture.

  • Flash-Based BBC h264 Videos Freeze After 8 Seconds

    Hello,
I like to view BBC news videos since March on my new Desktop Windows 7 64 bit Pro system.  For about 2 weeks now, I've been having trouble viewing about half of these videos.  Half play all the way through fine and the other half freeze after 8-10 seconds.  I have a CAT 5e 7 mbit cable modem connection so speed is not an issue.  My Wi-Fi connected Windows 7 Home Premium laptop uses the same router and can play the same videos with no problems.
On my Desktop, this freezing happens on both FireFox 12 and Internet Explorer 9.  I did all the usual things to try to fix the problem.  I cleared the caches on both FF12 and IE9.  Yesterday, I uninstalled both the Adobe Flash FF12 plug-in and IE9 Active-X versions and reinstalled with the latest version, 11,3,300,262.  Today, I upgraded to the latest version, 11,3,300,265.  Nothing has solved the problem.
Here are the specs for the BBC Flash-based player:
    Problem Videos:
    URL:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18819815
    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5

    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5
    18818139 | 800kbps | h264 | AK 4.5 (1) | 640x360
    This video plays OK:
    URL:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18801596
    EMP v.3.1.0.r749603_749269_749444_5
    18801601 | 800kbps | h264 | AK 4.5 (1) | 640x360
The only difference I noticed was the initial screen size of the video.  On the problem videos, the size is bigger than the OK one.  I assume the BBC videos are h264 encoded.  On both my Desktop and my laptop, I have 2 msmpeg2vdec.dll files.  1 in C:\Windows\System32 and another in C:\Windows\SysWOW64.  They are both v6.1.7140.0.  On both my Desktop and laptop, the sizes are different, 2.52 MB & 2.03 MB.
I am using the latest nVidia driver v301.42 which I installed 5/30/2012, over a month ago.  The only recent change which happened to my system on 7/4/2012 was my Norton Internet Security 2012 subscription expired.  NIS2012 then disabled itself and activated the built-in Windows firewall.  3 days ago I uninstalled NIS2012.  I also used the Norton Removal Tool.  I then installed a new NIS2012 with a new legitimate key.  However, I am still getting this freezing and I don't remember if I got this freezing before 7/4/2012.
On both FF12 and IE9, I can play Hulu, YouTube, Yahoo!, and Amazon videos with no problems.  When you right-click on any of these other flash players, nowhere does it say "h264."
    My questions are:
    1)  does the Adobe Flash Player, for both the FF12 plug-in and IE9 ax players, use the Windows7 CODEC?
    2)  Which file is the h264 CODEC, is it msmpeg2vdec.dll or something else?
    3)  Will installing a new CODEC pack fix this problem?
    4)  Is there anything else I have overlooked?  Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Interestingly, the advertisement plays correctly.  When you right-click on the ad, it does not say h264.  I have 2 video cards and several monitors on my Desktop.  It might have something to do with that.  Otherwise, perhaps one of my other apps did something to the Flash Player h264 playback.
I'm thinking maybe if I upgraded the h264 CODEC, maybe it will play correctly again.  CODEC GUIDE has a codec package which I already downloaded but haven't installed yet.  I downloaded the "Basic."  Unless you really need to, I don't recommend anyone install it.  If you want to install a CODEC package, just install the "Basic" package and not one of the bigger packages.  I think they make changes to your system.  Before installing it, be sure to make a full backup of your Windows system.

  • Red flash frames on C300 sequence exports

Still no fix for this widely noted issue, Adobe?
I'm currently trying to get a job completed and the process of getting anything out of Premiere is absolutely painful...
I have tried all the suggested solutions - trashing preferences and media cache files. I saw somewhere that removing any clips that are a different codec to your footage (in this case it's MXF files from a C300) fixed the problem. Tried switching hardware GPU acceleration off. None of these things have worked. I've had to export the sequence several different times and then stitch these exports together in a new sequence (skipping out the numerous red flash frames, of course) just to get a clean export out. Pitiful.
I can see reports of this happening over a year ago - why hasn't it been fixed? I think it's pretty scandalous that this hasn't been sorted - Premiere is advertised as being able to handle these camera formats natively...well, it can't right now for me if using the native camera files results in issues like this.
Has anyone found any other work arounds that I haven't noted above?

    Hi Mark,
According to the "about Premiere Pro" window, I am on 8.2.0 (65) build.
I have had the same issue exporting out of both Premiere and Adobe Media Encoder - the build of AME is 8.2.0.54.

  • Reasonably priced video footage for backgrounds

    Hello all
I have googles till I'm blue in the face for video footage.
I have looked at IStockphoto and getty images and countless others on my quest for footage, but it seems everything thing I find is insanely priced.
I mainly work on slideshows and video footage makes great backgrounds for me, nature type backgrounds mainly. can anybody point me in the direction of footage thats not going to cost me $3,000 ? I about feel out of my chair over the pricing on some of the RF video footage.
    Thanks

As for what I need and, have been on the hunt for, well that all depends on the images that are showing at that time, in most cases I have been able to and, have been happy with sunsets , waterfalls , streams and what have you. it all just depends but, there have been times I needed other footage like a time-laps rose opening or, a Dove flying that I could chroma key. now I did find the last two examples ,
oddly enough I found the time-laps rose on Google video and, then seen this very same footage at getty images for $1,500.
I have had the thought of just creating my own, after all I do live very close to a lot of beautiful locations, I also gave serious consideration on creating my own time-laps chroma key-able backgrounds.
On the other hand not all will be nature type but more in the line of Digital Juice jump back animation http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=12&tab=t3#tabs
Now I have not used any of the DJ materiel yet but , I can see where a lot of it can be very useful in dressing up my projects, even their Swipes I can use ,
    http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=390&tab=t3#tabs.
I suppose I was hoping for simplicity, would be much easier to down-load on demand, rather then to create.
    Thanks for the replies

  • Where can I learn how FCP references video footage?

I'm sure this is a basic (but perhaps involved?) question.
I've been learning and using FCP on and off for over a year. I've been using online tutorials and developing a basic knowledge of the program.
I just bought a new 27" iMac with two internal hard drives (the 256GB solid state drive, and a 2TB regular drive). Up until now, I've only ever owned computers with one internal drive, and have never even gotten into editing footage on an external drive.
I've installed FCS 2 on my new iMac, and now I need to transfer the projects I've worked on to my new iMac, along with the video footage those projects use. And I need to know what the best way to do this is. FCS is on the solid-state drive (of course). I'm sure I should put the footage I'm editing on the secondary 2TB internal drive. And maybe the project files, too? Or should they be on the solid-state drive?
Anyway, I really don't have a good understanding of what should be where, and what I need to be transferring, and how to make sure that FCP "knows" where to look for the footage I'm editing.
Is there a place in the manual, or a post here, or a FAQ, or somewhere where I can read about this and get a good understanding of it? This is something I need to know, anyway, so I will know how to backup and store projects that I might want to edit further in the future.
If it matters, I'm editing footage shot in AVCHD on a Canon camcorder. To date, all I've done is backup the actual AVCHD files on multiple drives, reasoning that if I had a crash I could edit the footage all over again. But I want to learn the proper way to do all of this.
    Thanks!

    When you "uncompress" AVCHD files
You aren't uncompressing. You are RE-COMPRESSING. AVCHD is compressed, and you can't uncompress that. But, you compress it into an editing codec...ProRes.
would the result be exactly the same if you did it more than once?
Not sure what you mean by that. There will be slight loss when you recompress, but nothing you'd notice. Transcoding, as it is called, is quite a normal process. ProRes is so well designed of a codec that you can recompress to ProRes again and again 10 times before you see any issues.
if I logged and transferred using the same settings, would the footage be exactly the same?
You can't. FCP doesn't work with AVCHD...it must be converted to ProRes.
My understanding is that FCP "looks" for video footage where it "expects" it to be based on how and where you imported it.
Yes. Once you set your Capture Scratch to your external drive, say MEDIA_01...FCP keeps looking for it there. If you move it, then FCP loses contact with it. Until you tell FCP where it is again.
Let's say I had my project saved, but somehow lost my footage. If I logged and transferred it again from the same AVCHD files, would it come out exactly the same so that (if I put it on the right drive in the right folder) my FCP project would work with it as though it was the original logged and transferred footage?
Yes....absolutely. The project file is the most important thing. Those clips in there point to the media. If the media drive dies, or the media is deleted, simply highlight all the clips and do a BATCH CAPTURE...FCP will look for the original SOURCE files, the AVCHD files, and then re-transcode them. And they will be exactly like the first time you imported them. And your cut will be rebuilt.
Or would there be small differences that would result in my FCP project not recognizing it?
Yes. If you move the footage, rename the footage on the FINDER level, meaning opening the drive and renaming the raw footage, or if you rename the folder that they are in, FCP will lose the connection. Which is why you DON'T do that. Designate the Capture Scratch...import the footage, and only deal with the footage in FCP...until you really know how things work and how to get FCP to reconnect to this footage.

  • Can I use a G4 to get raw video footage to a no-firewire aluminum MacBook?

    Hi -
I recently purchased a new aluminum MacBook 2.4Ghz and was shocked to discover the lack of a firewire port. Ok, I should have read the specs more closely before ordering, but I never would have imagined this port being removed (other than from the specialized MacBook Air). As others on this board have said, what were they thinking?!
So I have some questions about downloading raw video footage from a firewire camcorder (forgive any ignorance on my part, I'm new to camcorders and digital movie editing--I've never used iMovie). My goal is basically editing home movies.
I have an old G4 tower (1.5Ghz, 1GB RAM). I also have an external firewire/USB drive. The tower will not run iMovie '08 because the processor is too slow. The iLife 08 disc refuses to even load iMovie on this machine.
I haven't purchased a camcorder yet. I spent a lot of time researching affordable camcorders and had settled on a well-reviewed Canon miniDV, which of course, is firewire. This camera does not come with any software.
Would it work to connect the camera to my G4 via firewire, download the raw footage to my external drive connected to the G4, then move the external drive over to the MacBook, connect it to the MacBook via USB, then import the raw footage to iMovie for editing? I realize the copying over USB would be very slow. I assume I need some type of software for downloading the raw footage to the G4. Since iMovie won't run and the camera has no software, is there some type of utility or shareware that lets you capture raw footage?
Is there a better way I can use my G4 to get raw footage from a firewire camera, and then on to my MacBook? Or will this work at all?
I see that there are a few USB camcorders out there, but they seem to be expensive or don't receive very good reviews, so I'd like to go with the firewire Canon.
Thanks very much for the help with this frustrating issue

Well, never mind. I'm returning the MacBook and buying a previous generation MacBook Pro, which ends up being about $200 more.
Solves my problem, but many folks can't afford the Pro. I'll be commenting at Apple customer feedback about the lack of firewire on the new MacBook.
    Thanks for reading the post.

  • Has anyone solved or worked around the After Effects CC red flash frame glitch?

I can't find any mention on any forums of the After Effects CC red flash frame glitch later than Feb. 2014. I just installed 12.2 (which was my first CC version) on my macpro and started getting the red flash frames randomly, but with increasing frequency, in my projects. I have never had this problem before on any previous computer or version for AE. The forums I've read have referenced ProRes source footage, outputs to ProRes, and lens blur. My project uses all of these things.
If there is a universally accepted solution/work around, I haven't seen it definitively. Do I not use ProRes source footage? Do I not render to ProRes 4444? Do I not use the lens blur effect? Do I give up and go back to CS6?

    Hi Keith,
I have the "same" issue with the red frames in AFX CC
I have seen them first, as I resized a prores4444 HD to a smaller format and saw the redframes in the preview window.
Setup in AFX: I created a comp from the HD Prores4444 footage and put this comp in a comp with resolution of 960x540.
The output format was again prores4444.
I shuttled through the clips in the small comp and I saw the red frames too.
When I switched to the HD comp at the same position everything was fine.
I "solved" the problem by flushing the cache, twice. Because after the first purge I was only able to render the first clip. The second one had the red frame problematic again.
Maybe It has something to do with hardware accelerated layers.
    I'm using a MacPro running OSX 10.8.5 with a Nvidia GTX680.
    Cheers
    Michael

  • Canvas gets a red 'filter' over image when transport is stopped!

Hi, I have had this problem in the past, and it mysteriously disappeared, but now it is back- and it doesn't seem to be going away. When I am working in the timeline, and hit PLAY, the video image in the Canvas looks just fine. But when I hit STOP, there is a red hue over the canvas, with an opacity that shows the proper image beneath it. When I hit PLAY again, the red goes away. This crazy situation is making it practically impossible to work on color correction with the 3-Way. Help!  This problem doesn't occur in the Viewer window. I am working with Final Cut Pro 7.03 on a Mac Pro 10.7.5
Thank you for any advice on how to fix this weird problem.
    Bob

Pull down this menu in the canvas window:
Make sure it's set to RGB instead of RGB+Alpha
