One moment computer is working fine then I boot up and windows XP goes to some kind of blue screen. I forget what it said but it did suggest a bios update, which incidently I did a couple days ago. Have tried disconnecting everything, using just the hard disk and just the floppy. Have removed battery, cleared cmos but it still freezes. I can't even get into the bios as the computer freezes just before the bios would appear.
Oh, I've also disconnected all but the cpu fan and swapped memory.

Mail window may be in the Full Screen mode.
Move the mouse pointer to the top right corner of the Mail window and hold it there.
Menu bar should drop down and click the blue double arrow icon.

I've just downloaded iTunes 10.4 for mac and the red, yellow and green buttons (close, minimise, maximise) that sit in the top left corner are no longer there. It also looks like part of the top of iTunes has been cut off. Is this the norm now? How do I get them back?

It sounds to me like the iTunes toolbar is up under the Mac OS X menu bar. Try selecting the "Close Window" command from the File menu in ITunes, then open a new window by choosing "iTunes" under the Windows menu. If that doesn't fix the problem, try changing the resolution of your Mac's screen (Displays system preference) to a lower resolution, then back. That may get the iTunes window to reappear.
If not, open the Script Editor application, paste in the following text and click the "Run" button:

That's just the way it is in full screen mode. You need to come out of FS to see the dots again.

D-Bracket/Three reds and a green

I`ve recently been having a problem on boot up. I`m getting three reds and a green on the d-bracket {1R 2G 3R 4R), the manual says that the d-led will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly. I`ve taken the memory out and re installed it, checked all cables,no change If I press the reset after it hangs it will boot up fine, If this is a memory problem, is there anyway to test it and find out if this is the problem.
Any help appreciated.

How long have you wait from powered on? As its the same on my computer, when i have powered it down and start it up again .. i'll have to wait about 30sec before it start booting up.
If someone know if there is any "fix" for this issue, let us know.

Nothing moves at all! It was working before I tried to fool around with a BIOS setting, just switching to Manual in Advanced chipsets and setting the FSB to 200 mhz... AND FORGETTING TO CHANGE THE RAM SPEED TO 1:1 or auto! (Multiplier was set to 10.5
Then after I saved, the system booted and beeped a few times before I quickly shut it off...
Then the weird thing happened. When I try to turn it back on, I get no video, no beeps, and the reset button fails to respond. D Bracket Stuck at #4 Red, all others Green. The power button switches from Instant off to 4 Second Pause before Stop... All the fans are on, and the hard drive with the CD rom drives spin. However, nothing reads!
I tried resetting CMOS, and also safemode FSB! Nothing seems to work! I do not know what to do. The computer was running fine for a week.
Bios version 3.7 (new one, I cannot test it now)

You may not have reset the BIOS properly, put the jumper on reset, unplug the power supply and turn the power button on. Fans should spin up for a sec then die. This gets rid of any power stored in caps on the borad which keeps the BIOS alive as well. Put the jumper back to save, plug in the power supply and when it boots, get into BIOS and away you go.
Also check that any of your PCI cards, RAM and HSF haven't been dislodged while u have been poking around inside your case.

Red, Yellow and Green button are grey. "Show All" button disappears

I'm having two issues that I can not figure out.
First the red, yellow and green buttons are grey not colored. They still work but they do not show the correct color.
The second problem is that the "Show All" button in system preferences is not visible until I float over the are where it should be. The button still works but is not visible.
I can not figure out what happened or if the two situations are related.
Any thoughts?

Not sure on your other issue yet, but here's a suggestion for those buttons.
Open System Preferences and click the Appearance option. Is it set to Graphite? Switch to Blue.
I'll see if I can find a solution for your other problem as well!
Edit: Can't hurt to try removing the preferences file and see if that fixes things.
Click *Macintosh HD*, then Users> Library> Preferences. Delete--or move to the desktop--the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file. Restart your computer. Any changes?
Try another user account as well to see if the button reappears.

How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge? I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge. I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4? I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck. It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files. thanks gain.

Green, Orange, Green...

I have a question... My battery is on its 85 cycle, and well, when my battery is charging, every once in while the Light flashes Green, Orange, Green, Orange... and doesn't stop. What does this mean? Do I need a new battery? I have no idea... thanks for your time and help....

I was noticing increasing "time until charged" times on my macbook; it also had the symptom of shutting down with no warning when I was sure that there was at least 33% left on the battery, if not more.
Today, I brought it into the Genius Bar and the Tech reset the SMC and it appeared to work there - but he failed to check to see if it would accept a charge from an A/C power supply. I got home and plugged it in and now the light flashes from green to orange and back to green. Additionally, the time until charged has increased from 55 mins when I first plugged it in to 3hr15mins as I write this. It's still holding steady at an 85% charge the whole time.
Other symptoms:
* If I unplug the A/C adaptor, the fan calms down.
* If I use the small adaptor plug (instead of the long cord), it started to charge normally, but now appears to be counting up again in charge time and the flashing is back. Darn.
* I have two batteries (I bought an extra for long bus rides just a month ago and the other is the replacement I got from the original silent recall). For both batteries, the "time until charged" increases after being connected to A/C power. It looks like it flashes from orange to green for one of them (the elder) and not the other.
My guess is that the A/C adaptor is kaput. I'll take it in tomorrow and update the thread with any progress.

Ok so shuffle appears ok in itunes. Seemingly can add and remove tracks. Turn shuffle on and shows green. Press play and get green orange green orange green orange (always 3 times alternate) then no light and no sound?
Trying to restore as a starter and chapter 5 page 26 of the manual says go to source (devices?) then settings and and i should then be able to see a versions section and be able to hit a restore but all i can see is playing randomly/autofilling and reserving space for disc usage options.
Anyone now what the issue is or how i can restore factory settings as a starter?

This happens when you load the shuffle with Podcasts, which by default are set to "Skip when shuffling" and you also have the shuffle set to Shuffle, therefore the 'pod has no media it can play and it 'freaks out'. Check to see whether this matches your situation. If so, switch from 'shuffle' to 'continuous play' or load music instead of podcasts onto the 'pod.

Net extender flashing red or solid green sys light

I just had my net extender activated last week & have several issues:
1) the lights are blue, except the systems light will frequently return to flashing red or a steady green. I have shut down the extender for >30 sec w/o improvement, and I have shut down the router as well w/o success. It tends to interrupt my computer’s internet function when flashing. Any suggestions?
2) I use a sonic net extender from my home’s computer to access my work’s VPN line – is that compatible with the Samsung net extender?

Let's explore options to resolve this service issues! Some compatibility issues may certainly exist. You mentioned shutting down your extender for 30 seconds, and our troubleshooting guide indicates to disconnect the power supply from the extender for 30 seconds to reset. Have 6 Buttons and would like to use a red tomato with a green stem to indicate that button is being rolled over and selected?

Short answer - No. Two long answers - yes and yes.
Highlights can be only single color (two bit indexed color) and your image is not.
However, you can have up to 3 highlights using different colors for each one. So edit your image so you overlay 3 different colors (in photoshop layers, =1, =2, and =3). I would probably try the bottom layer as the red ball; then the white reflection, and then the green on top. When the highlight is active, all 3 colors show.
The other method is to use autoactivate (on a button) to go to a different menu that changes the image in the background for that button. You create multiple menus, with an ordinary state for all buttons in all menus, except for the "highlight" different for the "selected" button. Mouseover won't autoactivate, so this doesn't work on a computer the way you'd like.

You may have to try a general OS X troubleshooting process to see if the issue goes away by doing this...
Have you tried: starting the computer in SafeBoot mode, with shift key held down; a login screen should appear after a time, and then the regular desktop. At this point, locate Disk Utility in utilities folder, and run 'repair disk permissions' on the startup volume, usually the name given the hard disk drive as it appears on desktop. After Disk Utility is finished the permissions repair, restart the computer normally.
...The iTunes player has free support only through the duration of the hardware product's complementary or AppleCare extended plan coverages, so though you can download a newer version, that is not the same as free support for an issue. However, the iTunes Store or App Store has a different factor for their product.

There is an iTunes area in Apple Support Community discussions for more topics like this; except for when they involve a hardware product where an OS X is involved. If your computer is NOT a powerPC (an 'intel'-mac) the topic would more naturally need to be posted where that hardware and later supported OS X version topics get seen. So that is why one asks 'on what Mac running what version...' instead of writing four paragraphs in a wide angle reply. The details about your iMac and the OS X say more; without them, more questions arise.
