Red Hat OS updates certified by Oracle

Hi.
We have to understand which Red Hat Linux patches are relevant for our db, apps and discoverer tiers.
If, for example, our datbase is up to 10.2.0.2.0, I would need to know up to which patch level we should be looking at.
There seem to be hundreds of security patches available to Red Hat users on Oracle, so I would like to understand how to know up to which patch we should be patching up to.
Thanks.
DA

Yes I hear thee.
So far I have the following information on the database and EBS, but I am struggling to find any listed OS requirements for Discoverer:

  • ORA-01017: OS Authentication on Red Hat Linux 6.2 and Oracle 11gR2

    Hello
I am trying to eanble OS Authentication on Oracle 11.2.0.3 installed on a Red Hat Linux Server 6.2 and it just does not work. When I try to login I always get the error ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
I have set the following Oracle parameters:
    remote_os_authent = TRUE
    os_authent_prefix = OPS$
and i have created a linux user "oracle" and the Oracle user "OPS$oracle".
I know that the parameter remote_os_authent in 11g is depricated but i thought that it still should work, just an error messages occures then i start the database but it runs as usual, just the OS Authentication does not seem to work.
Does anyone knwo where the problem could be?
Oracle said that remote_os_authent is depricated because as it is risky, i know that, but my database is in a secure environment without any connection to the internet. What other way would there be without using remote_os_authent?
Thank you very much for your help.
    Regards Bernhard

Thanks for the link, i found that i used a case sensitive user name as i created the user with "OPS$USERNAME" and this was why i cound not connect with that user.

  • How to upgrdae Oracle Cluster on Red Hat Linux 3 to Red hat Linux 4 AS U 7

We need to upgrade our Clustered (2 Nodes) Oracle Database environment on Linux environment to Red Hat 4 AS 7. The current OS version is Red Hat 3 update 6. We use EMC SAN Storage as shared storage (OCFS and Raw Devices) for our 9i and 10g databases
Question: We will install (on local disks) Red Hat 4 AS Update 7 and then install ocfs and ASMlib RPMs. Is there any risk of loosing the existing (on Red Hat 3 update 6) ocfs file systems and raw devices (from EMC SAN Storgae) after we do fresh install of OS and ocfs and ASMlib RPMs? How can we keep the shared storage data quickly available (without restore from the backup) to the system after installing Red Hat 4 AS Update 7 and mentioned RPMs?

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Linux Red Hat 7.2

We have two Servers, One is HP6000, the other is Dell 6400. Both are Linux Red Hat 7.2 OS with Oracle 8.1.7 installed.
Now I want to make a cluster with them, One is active, One is standby.
Which software I need? And how install it on my servers?
    Best Regards

you might need cluster software such as RedHat Cluster Manager to perform failed over. it came from with RedHat AS (Advanced Server). other third party sofrwares (plus firmware supported) are also available.

  • Oracle 10gAS migration from Red Hat 4.0 SE to OEL 5.x

    Hello Folks,
I am planning to migrate my Oracle 10gAS R2 (10.1.2.3) Infrastructure Tier on Server A (Red Hat 4) and
Middle Tier(Forms, Report, Discoverer) on Server B (Red Hat 4)
to Server C (Oracle Linux 5.7) and Server D (Oracle Linux 5.7) respectably.
Is it possible to use $OH/clone.pl in order to migrate Middle Tier?
I know that Infrastructure cannot be officially cloned
Is there any way to clone the infrastructure tier? ( or fresh install?)
However this is a just planning and I do not have any previous experience with this kind of migration
Would you guys please be able to give me an advice?
    Any comments would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers,

What are the components you have in Infra ? If OID is installed in infra, thats not possible to clone. You would have to set up a new environment and copy users, groups, etc.
That's what I have done numerous time.
However, if you just have OC4J and OHS, you could think of cloning.

    Raj Mareddi

The only difference with CentOS is that you use yum as your package updater and to pass the OUI checks you need to edit /etc/redhat-release (or you can just ignore the warning that your OS is not RHEL)
    For example,
    cp /etc/redhat-release /etc/zzzredhat-release
    cat > /etc/redhat-release << EOF
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.3 (Tikanga)
EOFAnd you can also use yum on the free Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL), which is also very close to Red Hat but also adds the oracle-validated RPM in the most recent releases. OEL is available from http://edelivery.oracle.com
(The same test works on OEL)

I need to know where can i find some information about apps 11i and 12 future certifications in red hat 5 (either RHES 5 Oracle Red Hat 5). I'm interested in both 32 and 64 bits platforms.
    Thanks in advance

    Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 - WHEN ???
    Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 - WHEN ???
Probably 6-9 months after Oracle 10g is certified for RHES 5 if the delay for SLES 10 certification is any indication.

  • Red Hat Cluster Suite without the use of RAC

    Hi,
I want to install Oracle 9i/10g database on two nodes in linux redhat AS 3. I want to use Red Hat Cluster Suite for clustering and failover the Oracle db without the use of RAC. Is it possible and would it be sufficient enough ? Does Red Hat Cluster Suite support with Oracle 10g or just 9i ? With Red HAt Cluster Suite, would it require to have one virtual IP ?
    Thanks

If you want failover all you need is a dataguard solution and skip out on cluster suite.
If you want Distributed Database then you need RAC.. You can't implement a 9i/10g cluster per say by using an OS solution vs an Oracle solution.
    Node A - Primary
    Node B - Secondary
    Node A -> B (DataGuard redo replication)
Process Management scripts to switch users from A to B and vice versa pending recovery of instances. Cluster suite has no involvement outside of what may be nice nice system management capability.

  • Database Configuration Assistant for 8.1.61 and Red Hat 6.1

This is my first install and I'm a little confused.
Im installing Oracle Enterprise 8i release 2 (aka 8.1.6.1) on a Linux box (Red Hat 6.1). When Oracles Installer gets to the Database Configuration Assistant, it runs for awhile and then gives me this error:
    ORA-03114 not connected to ORACLE
When I click OK to dismiss the message, it just hangs there. If I get to a shell and kill off a few of the DbCA processes, I eventually get back to the Installer and I can Exit. It says that the installation was successful but the sample database was not created.
Ive tried this twice now. Same result each time.

  • Problems Installing XSU 2.1.0 into O8.1.6 under Red Hat

    Here is the system:
Red Hat Linux 6.2 running Oracle 8i 8.1.6 with no known problems (but I
am an Oracle newbie so some problems may be yet undetected)
I am trying to install the XML aprse from Technet. The exact file I

    class files I have.
After changing the appropriate environment variables in xsuload.csh I
run it and eventually get to this

The OracleXMLSave class WAS resolved correctly earlier in the loadup, which is why this is so confusing. How can I clean all of that stuff out of the DB I was working to start over?
Is it necessary to run env.csh prior to loading this up? I was not planning on using the client side so ignored that.

RedHat probably realized that large companies don't feel comfortable putting their enterprise on cheap software. They feel more comfortable paying through the nose. Seriously though I suspect this version has been recompiled with more semaphore and shared memory available to handle the large SGA's of larger databases. You can do this yourself but they know the internals better and can tune other parameters to work with the large values Oracle says it needs..

  • Installation of Oracle AS 10g on Red Hat ES 3.0

Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0 (All issues are cleared and u will b done with no error like Java Configuration Failed and make files errors)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Custom Installation
    Copy from OTN Note
    Start
Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
    1.     Boot the server using the first CD.
o     You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
    2.     The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
o     Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
o     The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.
    3.     Language Selection
    o     Accept the default.
    4.     Keyboard Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    5.     Welcome Screen
    o     Click on Next.
    6.     Mouse Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    7.     Installation Type
    o     Select Custom.
    8.     Disk Partitioning Setup
o     A thorough treatment of disk partitioning is beyond the scope of this article, which assumes that you are familiar with disk partitioning methods.
(WARNING: Improperly partitioning a disk is one of the surest and fastest ways to wipe out everything on your hard disk. If you are unsure how to proceed, stop and get help, or you will risk losing data!)
This article uses the following partitioning scheme, with ext3 for each filesystem:
The 9GB disk on the first controller (/dev/sda) will hold all Linux and Oracle software and contains the following partitions:
    - 100MB /boot partition
-1,500MB swap partition—Set this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
-7,150MB root partition— This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.
    9.     Boot Loader Configuration
    o     Accept the default.
    10.     Network Configuration
o     It is usually best to configure database servers with a static IP address. To do so, click on Edit.
o     A pop-up window appears. Uncheck the Configure using DHCP box, and enter the IP Address and Netmask for the server. Be sure that Activate on boot is checked, and click on OK.
o     In the Hostname box, select manually and enter the hostname.
o     In the Miscellaneous Settings box, enter the remaining network settings.
    11.     Firewall Configuration
o     For the purposes of this walk-through, no firewall is configured. Select No firewall.
    12.     Additional Language Support
    o     Accept the default.
    13.     Time Zone Selection
o     Choose the time settings that are appropriate for your area. Setting the system clock to UTC is usually a good practice for servers. To do so, click on System clock uses UTC.
    14.     Set Root Password
o     Enter a password for root, and enter it again to confirm.
    15.     Package Group Selection
o     Select only the package sets shown here. Leave all others unselected.

    17.     Installing Packages
o     Software will be copied to the hard disk and installed. Change disks as prompted, and click on Next when the installation is complete.
    18.     Graphical Interface (X) Configuration
o     Accept the defaults unless the installer does not recognize your video card. If your video card is not recognized, you will not be able to continue.
    19.     Monitor Configuration
o     Accept the default if the installer correctly identifies your monitor. Otherwise, select a compatible monitor from the list.
    20.     Customize Graphical Configuration
    o     Accept the defaults.
    21.     Congratulations
o     Remove the installation media from the system, and click on Next.

o     If you want to use an NTP server (recommended), select Enable Network Time Protocol and enter the name of the NTP server.
    25.     User Account
o     Create an account for yourself.
o     Do not create an account for oracle at this time. Creating the oracle account is covered later in this section.

Same as done with relink file in Middle tier installation. I would like to turn ur attention for a serious problem no one asked about it. Here u have seen that a script make 3 file in /usr/local/bin for infrastructure and middle tier when u finished infrastructure’s installation plz rename that 3 files as

  • Installation of OracleAS 10g on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0

Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
Leave all others unselected.
    o     Desktop

    22.     The system automatically reboots and presents a new welcome screen.
    o     Click on Next.

o     If you want to use an NTP server (recommended), select Enable Network Time Protocol and enter the name of the NTP server.
    25.     User Account
o     Create an account for yourself.
o     Do not create an account for oracle at this time. Creating the oracle account is covered later in this section.
    26.     Red Hat Network

  • Oracle 10g Installation on Red Hat Linux

    Hi
I am trying to install Oracle 10g (Downloaded from Oracle Site) in a Linux Installation. I have checked with the following command about the Linux Version
    # cat /etc/issue and the output is :
Red Hat Linux Release 7.1 (Seawolf)
    Kernel 2.4.2-2 on an i686
Then I am giving #uname -r and the output is
    2.4.2-2
Now Oracle Installation Guide for 10g for Linux is saying that
if the errata level is less than 25 on x86 system then install latest Kernel Updates.
Please Let me know from where I can get the Latest Kernel Updates appropriately and what I need to do to put that patch into Linux so that I can smoothly install the Oracle 10g.
    Thanks and regards.
    Keshav Tripathy

Jer is absolutely right.... just changing the values in oraparm.ini to reflect your kernel distribution will work for you.
    For example the file contains:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3
now to add your linux into it just check your version by issuing the command #uname -r
in my case the output was "2.4.20-8smp". I just appended redhat before this value and entered in the oraparm.ini file.
The new ini file looks like:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3,redhat-2.4.20-8smp
    [Linux-redhat-2.4.20-8smp-optional]
    TEMP_SPACE=80
    SWAP_SPACE=150
    MIN_DISPLAY_COLORS=256
Now you are all set to install. I assume that all other pre-requisites have been fulfilled.
    Thanks & Regards,
