Red line on sides and bottom of display

appeared yesterday for about 15 minutes. This is not the classic red line down the middle.
Is this a known problem?

I've never heard of this issue before but if it has gone away then I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot unless it comes back again. If you have the Apple Care Protection Plan I would call Apple and at least let them know so they can document the issue.

My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restart again, I can load it in windows 7 safe mode with red lines across the display, pls help

The graphic card is damaged. You can't do anything more than taking your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and getting your graphic card replaced.
Sometimes, when the graphic card is damaged, operating systems can't start. That's caused because the drivers that make the graphic card work detect an error, telling the operating system that the graphic card is unusable, so the operating system can't start and it restarts. However, you can start in safe mode because operating systems use a basic driver in this startup mode

  • Satellite M30: coloured lines run up and down on display

    Hi there
Ive got a problem with the display on my Satelite M30. I can boot into windows fine etc but coloured lines run up and down my display as well as general artifacts. I cant even install nvidia drivers without a blue screen.
The strange thing is that if i apply pressure to the left side of my touch pad i can instal the drivers and everything is fine! Release the pressure and the computer crashes. Ive opened the laptop up and can find nothing that could be causing this.
    Any insight here?

    Hi
You could check if the problem is related to the LCD monitor or to the graphic card.
Try to connect the external monitor and check if the lines appear on the second display.
If the lines does not appear then the graphic card should be ok.
Did you try to install the graphic driver from the Nvidia website??? Such drivers are not designed for the usage on the Toshiba notebook. You have to use the own Toshiba graphic drivers because the drivers supports an overheating protection.
If the temperature increases to the higher, critical level the Toshiba drivers will decreases the graphic card performance.
The other graphic drivers dont support such function and therefore the graphic chip can overheat!
Anyway, I think also the technician should check the notebook

If the center portion of the monitor is flickering then your GPU on the logic is bad or (unlikely given this symptom) that your monitor cable is pinched/damaged.
**Imediately backup ALL your important data while you can still see things on the monitor
Contact Apple for appt. for in shop diagnostics for full examination and for parts replacement
nobody can give you a cost on a repair that isnt fully diagnosed online and cannot be.
perform SMC reset just to check:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • IMovie iDVD cuts off left side and bottom of pics/vids of TV screen

For as long as i have had iMovie, I have always had this problem where the left side and bottom of the pictures and videos are cut off and cannot be seen on the TV screen. If there is anyone out there who knows something about this, has an answer, or even a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated if I heard back from you. I have a Mac OSX 10.0 and have iLife 06 if that helps. Thanks a lot.
    Mike.

    Hello Mike,
a bit of "cropping" is normal - it's called overscan - but you say that the it occurs only at the bottom and left side .... are you sure it doesn't affect the whole picture? If I'm wrong post back with some more details about your footage and workflow.
Also: does this only ocurr on DVD or also if you play from iMovie through to camera?
    The TV Safe Area:
Anything within the outer 5% of your frame is going to disappear when viewed on a TV ( e.g. Rolling Credits). Inside this 5% is known as the Action Safe area and is produced by a TV behaviour called overscan. Anything within the outer 10% of your image area is not displayed as clearly as the part of the image within that border. The "sharp" 80% of your TV monitor is known as the TV Safe area.
NOTE: "TV Safe" only applies to video shown on a TV set. On a computer monitor, this can be pretty much ignored
    hope this helps

  • 4x6 print in PSE12:cannot crop thin white edge rt.side and bottom

When printing 4x6 prints in PSE12, the print leaves a thin, white edge on the right side and bottom of the print. I have attempted to correct this through cropping, but the thin white edge remains. Computer is HP notebook running windows 7, printer is HP 7510. I should not have to cut the edge off the print to correct this. Please help!
    Thank you so much.

Possibly a printer limitation. Check the printer driver for a 'borderless' setting and see if that makes any difference. Also check your photo paper size - 4" x 6" and 10cm x 15cm are often used interchangeably, but they are actually different sizes.

  • Thin horizontal distorting lines on top and bottom of screen

    Hi,
I've got a g3 imac (600mhz Snow, 10.2), it's a friends actually, he brought it over to see if I could help him out. It apparently came on gradually, but now, the top and bottom of the screen is obliterated by horizontal lines, rapidly oscillating, side to side. I'm going to try an external monitor later in the week, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. The lines at the very top calm down after ten minutes or so, but the dock at the bottom of the screen is completely distorted, it's only the middle third of the screen that remains only slightly jittery.
ANy help, as ever, would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Kev.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Attaching the external display will show if the problem is in the CRT itself, or in the analog video hardware. Since the problem gradually because worse over time, it doubt that it is related to software. Trying the PRAM battery replacement was a good idea, even if it wasn't the problem. If you haven't done it, you can do a reset of PRAM during startup.

However, I think it's either the CRT or the analog video hardware going bad.

  • Fullscreen Video playback shows wrong line at top and bottom

I have a very annoying problem for years now, it happens with various Windows-OS (XP, Vista, Win 7) and no iTunes/Quicktime update changed anything ever:
If I watch my iTunes Video clips (all bought in the iTunes store) in fullscreen the first (header) line of the video playback is displayed at the bottom and vice versa. You need to watch a video with different colors in the upper and lower part, then the error is quite noticeable.
    I use ATI Graphics cards.
    Anyone knows a solution?

Thanks for your quick answer, however I did try that and the problem
remained. Also, DVD's that I buy in the store play fullscreen without having
to change any settings to the player nor the TV so way should it now? (just
    wondering)
The only way to get it to play full screen is set the TV to "cinema 1"
instead of "16:9". But then it looks like the image is blown up.
I'm not sure if it's relevant but the TV is a widescreen LCD HD flatpanel,
DVD player is a standard (cheap) one.

  • How do I keep my status bar at the top and not moving from side to side and bottom of phone

how do I keep my status bar at the top of my phone? I let my grandsn play a game on my phone and after he gave it back I noticed my status bar would move from the top to the side or bottom etc

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart itself, ignore the slide to power off slider. Let the iPhone restart itself. Usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons.
Probably do not need this, but Portrait Lock can be set by, pressing home button twice quickly, slide bottom row of icons to the right one time, tap the Portrait Lock icon.

  • Button Top and Bottom - one displays other not

I created a report region and added a button to it:
Create a button in a region position
    Button name: SUBMIT
    Label: Submit
    Button Type: Image
    Image Name: #COMPANY_IMAGES#lisa.gif
Position: Top and Bottom of region
Then I viewed the page - the top image displays correctly, but the bottom one doesn't. So viewing page source I saw, that Top image src attribute is
    wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=505603948315924&p_fname=lisa.gif
whereas the Bottom image had src of
    /i/wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=505603948315924&p_fname=lisa.gif
Looks like a bug to me :-/
I'll create two buttons now (one for top and other for bottom button), no worries, but I thought you should know.

    Kaja,
Yes it's a bug. Thanks for letting us know.

  • Black lines at top and bottom of quicktime

idvd is adding black lines to the top and bottom of my 4:3 quicktime movies... i wouldn't mind so much except that it is adding more at the top than the bottom and looks funny on a regular t.v. screen... any ideas...?

You might try the "fix-all" fix: close iDVD, delete the iDVD preference file, com.apple. iDVD.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iDVD and see if that helps.

  • When selecting "bookmark this page" the location select window right side and bottom are cut off, no visible buttons

After I select "bookmark this page" from the bookmarks menu, and then select "show all the bookmarks folders" with the pulldown arrow, the bookmarks folder list appears but the right side and the bottom are cut off so that no buttons are showing. Trying to resize the window does not work. Double clicking on the desired folder selects the folder name for editing, however, the caption at the top says "bookmark saved" and sometimes it is actually where I would like it to be added.

After finding that I did not have a chrome folder, or userchrome.css file, I installed ChromEdit Plus. Through this app I was able to create a chrome folder and the userchrome.css file using the information from finitarry. The problem still existed. I then edited userchrome.css changing the values to "min-width:800px !important; min-height:800px !important; " The results were; same problem, just bigger. This code changes the folderview pane in the add bookmarks window. The problem is the pane expands larger than the window. Let me see if I can clairify, When you select "bookmark this page" the add bookmark "window" opens. to open the folderview pane, click on the down arrow to the right of the folder pulldown menu. The window is not expanding to contain the pane correctly and pushes all the other controls off the screen.

  • Red line suddenly appears and doesn't go away

A thin red vertical line appears out-of-the-blue after running iTunes visualizer. Tried resetting p-ram and display settings - doesn't solve the problem. Does any one out there have a solution?

    iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi Ohia,
I had the same problem. It just appeared as if from nowhere. I only discovered that someone else had the same thing when I went looking for a solution. I don't know if this will be any use to you but the line disappeared after changing the desktop picture several times. I have to confess that this was a purely accidental discovery. I also don't know if this will be a permanent solution. It may be worth a try (maybe you have already tried it).
Hope this may be of some help.
    Cheers for now,

  • When I open certain emails the scroll bars at the side and bottom flash and jump back and forth along with the email content

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Yahoo mail. Ever since then when I open certain emails the scroll bars jump back and forth and flash. This happens when I open my AT&T bill or something from Amazon for instance. A message appears at the bottom such as "Transferring data from mail.yimg.com", or "us.bc.yahoo.com". This doesn't happen when I use Safari.
