Red lines on screen where black should be what do i do ?

So for a few weeks, i have been turning on my lap top and the places where black is supposed to be there is red, and it does not go away..sometimes it will go pink then turn red and will not leave....what do i do or what is wrong with my laptop??

Hello brenanerzz,
It sounds like you are seeing some incorrect colors on your MacBook Pro, and I definitely understand your concern with this.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me:
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • Green noise is being displayed where black should be being displayed

OK, I am really worried that my Macbook Pro is screwed up bad. I've been playing World of Warcraft fine for weeks. Been watching my temps, been a little high but not anything dangerous. However I've recently been noticing that when I play WoW for over 2 hrs or so and exit, my screen glitches and what can best be described as green static is displayed where black should be. Now I've tried reseting the NVRAM and leaving it alone for a few hrs and it went away. Now it popped up again, did the same thing that fixed it before, but now it won't go away. Did my Mac overheat and now the graphics are messed up?

Are you still under warranty? If so, it would be prudent to report this to Apple and possibly get a case number. It sounds like there could be a hardware problem with the graphics chip, even if nothing showed up on the AHT. Did you run the AHT at a time that you were getting the green noise?
Have you tried an external display? If you get the some problem on it, that would indicate a graphics chip problem. If you don't, there could be some sort of problem with your built in display.
    Good luck!

  • Screen displays red where black should be

I have been having display issues for a few months and can not get it fixed.  Where the screen should be displaying black the color red is being displayed. My system info is:
    I have a G61 laptop with windows 7 64 bit system
    ATI Mobility Radeon 4200 series
    Driver 8.970.100.1100(201304290
When I connect the laptop to a external monitor dont have this issue.
I downloaded the Radeon file to detect the proper graphics drive and it confirmed that the latest driver is installed.
Can anyone please suggest a way to fix this issue please?
    Thank you
    Jere

    Hi @JereJK1960
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I saw your post regarding the problem with the red where it should be black. Since, this doesn't show up on an external monitor we know it is not a problem with your video card or graphics driver as it would show up on the external monitor. This is a hardware issue with the display screen or the connectors to the display. Give us a call regarding repair options. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • Photobooth & iPhoto show black screen where photos should be??

My iPhoto shows a black screen whenever I click on a picture. I can't see the photo when I want to edit it and it does not let me enlarge any of the pictures.
Also, my Photo Booth shows a black screen where its supposed to show the webcam picture. If I click on the white space where the thumbnails of previous pictures are supposed to show up, it pops up a different screen with the pictures already taken. But, I still cannot see the webcam picture.
If anybody could help solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!!

You may have some damaged software.
If the problems are the same after restarting your Mac, reinstall Mac OS X 10.9.

  • Sony 46" LCD Vert. Red Line on screen

I have a Sony 46" HDTV and have a Verticle Red Line from the top
of the screen to the Bottom..  Can this be fixed with an adjustment.
Can it be repaired. TV is 2 1/2 years old. Out of warranty.
Great Picture except for this problem. Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If it happens on all content and all sources (sat/cable/blu-ray/game/dvd/etc) it is likely a damaged transistor not allowing the red to shut off. Yes its repairable but at what cost I don't know you would have to get a estimate for that. Although I should add no matter what the actual cause is if its there all the time it will need to be serviced by a authorized repair technician.

  • A single red line on screen

I started up my Macbook today and a single red line appeared on my screen.  I tried resetting the LCD (Control, Shift, Eject), but that did nothing.  The Macbook was purchased in 2008, so I am out of my extended warranty.
What do I do?  Please advise kindly.

    this can be caused by:
bad bios (even though they never mentioned it was a dell)
    monitor going bad
graphics card chip is going bad
connection between the monitor and your motherboard is bad (bad cable, lose cable)
your eyes going bad (haha jk jk)
u can play around with the setting and end up frustration, or you can bring it in to geek squad and have them take a look at it.
if you bought the computer from best buy and bought the protection service plan/geek squad black tie protection plan, they will be able to take a look at it and hopefully it will be covered (depends on what's causing it)
if you bought the computer from best buy and did not buy the protection plan, or u didn't buy the computer from best buy at all, they will charge you $69 for a diagnostic fee, and they will tell you an estimate on how much it will cost for you to fix.

  • IPhoto: No pictures only broken-line/square boxes where pictures should be.  Scanning with the bar slide the pics appear for one or two seconds then are gone.

Grandson Son sabataged my IPhotos!  Can't get pics to appear.  Only broken-line/square boxes where the pictures should be.  Scrolling with side bar brings up pics for 1 or 2 seconds then they are gone again.  HELP!  Please....

Restore from your back up is the most obvious way forward.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • Ibook g3 12in Red line in screen

Today My ibook g3 poped up with a red line to the right of the screen and want go away what could be doing this?

    A Google search finds this:

    Answer from JohnWasser
Possibly a bad connection at the LCD.
It sounds to me like the electrical connection feeding one column of the LCD has broken. Put a Post-it note on the screen with the sticky edge right along the red line. If the line doesn't move when you change screen resolutions then it's even more likely to be a column drive wire. If you connect an external display and you still see the problem then it's NOT the connections in the LCD. It may be possible, but fairly tricky, to re-solder the physical connection. You'd have to disassemble the screen quite a bit to get access to the connections. The wires are also very close together so it will be hard to re-heat one without accidentally connecting to the next. The safest solution is to live with the problem.

  • Red line on screen

How can I fix my ipod touch 4g if there is a red line in the middle of my screen and occasionally it flickers to a white line across the entire screen and makes my screen blink? It goes away sometimes if I leave my ipod alone for a while but then it comes back quickly.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Red line down screen

My monitor has a red line down the middle of the screen.   Does anyone know why this is happening?  Sometimes, depending on the background color, the line is green (on lighter backgrounds), otherwise it is red.

I have the EXACT same problem and also bought my iMac in Dec 2011. Thankfully I have AppleCare. I called support; had to back up the machine and take it in to an Apple Store for a new monitor and a new video card. They didn't seem to be all THAT horrified at the problem so perhaps it was a bad batch of monitors in that run of manufacturing.
Anyway, I'm using my MacBook for now and they expect the iMac to be fixed ready in 3-5 days.

  • Powerbook G4 OSX 10.2 red line through screen

Does anyone know what or why I would have a vertical thin red line through the screen..top to bottom; and is it serious? can it be fixed? What does it mean...
    soni

    Soni:
It is helpful when we know which PB G4 you have. However, your thin vertical red line may be failing backlight lamp. If that is the case you don't need to worry about it, unless you want it gone. If it is convenient make an appointment at the Genius Bar and have them take a look at no cost to you.

  • IPad red line across screen

I was just using my iPad normally when all of a sudden, a red line appeared across the screen one pixel wide. I tried to restart and reset. Is there some other solution?

If resetting didn't fix it, it appears you have a bad screen. You'll have to contact Apple by phone or at the Genius bar at an Apple store.
They may replace your iPad, even if it is out of warranty, though I strongly doubt that. Otherwise, you can purchase a refurbished one on exchange as long as there is no water damage:
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.
Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPad is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. Replacement iPads have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare service contract coverage, whichever is longer. Please see the AppleCare+ for iPad and Apple Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.
