Red number in box disappeared from Mail Icon

The red box that indicates the number of unread mail alongside the Mail icon (in the Dock) has disappeared.
Any ideas?
Power Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Just a guess ... I believe that the number reflects the emails in your Inbox. Is it possible that you have filtered stuff into other mailboxes?

The 'reply' and 'new message' bar has disappeared from mail on my iPad since I upgraded my Macbook Pro from OSX 10.5 to 10.6. How can I get it back?

Updating your Mac's OS X version won't have affected how the Mail app (I assume that it's the Mail app that you are using, not Safari) shows on your iPad. If you don't have the menu bar showing in the Mail app then try closing the Mail app via the iPad's multitasking bar and see if it shows when you re-open it : iOS: Force an app to close
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • ICloud account disappears from Mail preferences

In Mail preferences my iCloud account didn't seem to be working so I deleted it, logged into iCloud, selected 'Mail and Notes' and the Mail account was recreated.  After signing out of iCloud the account disappeared from Mail preferences.  Why?

So, then, do you recommend that I remain "signed in" to iCloud all the time on both my desktop and my laptop so that the iCloud account always appears in the Mail application?  Or should I "sign in" to iCloud periodically to see if I have mail in my iCloud account or, alternatively, access mail in the iCloud account through iCloud.com?
The old MobileMe mail account was always present in the Mail application unlike the iCloud mail account.

  • Once again, my .mac aliases have disappeared from Mail.... Arghhh! help?

Once again, with no warning, all my .mac aliases have disappeared from the dropdowns in my Mail app (OS 10.4.11). They still exist in .mac/mobile me webmail, and in Mail i'm still receiving emails addressed to them. But I can't reply to these emails with the alias, nor create new emails with aliases.
I have tried Sync-ing with the site- i recollect that has worked in the past, but now no change. i have tried adding the aliases in with commas after the primary address in Preferences (as is suggested in KB below), but it does not work- and the next time Prefs is open, they are gone. In Mail preferences, the account is listed as ".mac", which is listed in the KB as one of the correct types (the other being imap).
I use my .mac aliases a lot, and have for years. i do NOT like or want to go to .mac/me Webmail to be able to use them. i do NOT want to change them to .me addresses/aliases. I can't stand how they just randomly come and go as far as being available as dropdowns in Mail... what the heck is up with Apple? i'm paying $100 for these kinds of services (excuse me, $99) and they can't keep a few aliases available to their own app (Mail)? If they weren't so deeply embedded in my business uses, i'd ditch the whole thing.
Anyway, enuf ranting; does anyone know the solution or work-around? Nothing in the below KB worked for me, even tho it is supposed to.
    the non-helpful KB: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2296

If your aliases are disappearing after you enter them, that would indicate that your Mail preferences file has become corrupted. The only solution for that is to delete the com.apple.mail.plist file in Home/Library/Preferences, then restart Mail and setup your account(s) again.
However, before you do that, you must remove all your mail account folders that being with "IMAP-"; otherwise you'll create more problems for yourself. Those are located in Home/Library/Mail.

  • Hotmail disappearing from Mail on iPhone 6

A few months ago I was having trouble with my email not downloading to my phone so I deleted the hotmail account and re-installed it. It solved the problem with emails not downloading but after a few weeks I noticed my oldest emails were disappearing from my phone. I don't use outlook on a computer so it isn't related
to that. I use Mail on an iMac but I rarely use email on my computer.  I went into settings and changed deleted messages --> remove to "never" but it is still happening. I noticed after I re-installed hotmail it is connected to the server now. In other words if I log in to hotmail from a web browser the inbox is the same as on my phone so if I delete a message from the web browser it is deleted on my phone and vice versa (it didn't do this before I deleted hotmail the first time) but when the emails randomly disappear from my phone they are still in my inbox on the web browser.
I hope someone can help because I primarily use my phone for email and I keep losing important emails.

Ok, great!.  So what?  What is your question?

  • Icon for i cloud suddenly disappeared from mail ?  Not a problem but just concerned that the icon should disappear from the listing for the iCloud e mail account

I had previosly set up a number of IMAP e mail account in addiiton under my .mac and .me account which is my personal account.
On the mail home page it had the inbox listing thee accounts and further down the page its used to list the on line accounts set up under I cloud using the same name as the .mac or .me accounts, but also included the i cloud icon as does my ipad.  Logged onto day and the i cloud icon had dissappeared?  not sure why it is still functioning and I still have all my icloud accounts set up but the icon is no longer present.
Maybe just a bit anal but it bugs me to know why this icon has suddenly dissappeared?

    Hello,
Do you use these settings in Mail for your Gmail account (especially for the SMTP) ?
If you use IMAP and all your emails are still stored on the server you can delete your account in Mail and recreate it with the settings mentionned above.
    Hope this will help.

  • Emails are appearing and disappearing from Mail

Last week I started noticing weird behavior with Mail. Emails would appear in my inbox and then disappear almost immediately.
I've got a number of different IMAP accounts set up - this is just happening on one account.
They're not going into any other box - I've checked Junk, Trash, etc - they just disappear. They don't turn up using search. There aren't any rules acting on them either.
I run three different machines - all on 10.6.7 - and this is happening on all of them.
If I use webmail, I can access all of the emails ok so they're still on the server.
Searching this site, it looks like there are a few people who've been having similar problems recently but there weren't any solid solutions.

When you say they disappear, do they reappear again? I'm wondering if this is happening as your contacts are syncing with the service you are syncing to, as in Yahoo Groups. I'm not sure how Yahoo Groups works, but if this is where you are saving them, I wonder if you get disconnected from the Yahoo server momentarily, they would disappear. This is the same way Exchange contacts are. If you get disconnected from the Exchange server, you cannot access contacts.

  • Messages disappearing from Mail

    Hi,
    I use an iMac 8,1 OS 10.5.8
For my email, I have two addresses and messages are downloaded to the Mail software. My Mail file is enormous (23GB) because I have all my sent and received emails for works purposes. I regularly copy the whole thing back and forth between my iMac and iBook via FireWire when I go away on trips.
I recently had some connectivity issues and was using my iPhone as a modem. Having encountered a problem, I restarted my computer, having closed down the programs. Having restarted and reopened Mail, I noticed that one of my mailboxes was having trouble opening, but I assumed that this was due to the slow connectivity. Now I have full wireless connectivity restored but I noticed that tens of thousands of sent messages, and hundred of received that were in my inbox, have simply disappeared. I have checked all the folders and the messages that have disappeared and they all relate to one of my email addresses - the one whose box was having trouble opening...
I have two questions - apart from how this couldl have happened:
    1) can I restore the missing messages? Are they somewhere on my machine?
    2) If not, I copied the whole of Mail to my iBook a few weeks ago. Can I transfer en masse the missing sent and received messages to my iMac, without effacing the more recent messages sent and received on this computer? If I import the Mailboxes, will this not overwrite the more recent messages since that copy to my iBook?
If anyone can help, I'd be most grateful, as these emails are really important for professional reasons.
    thanks
    Sebastian

With that version of OSX and Mail, there would be no Attachments folder with any POP account's mbox folder.  Don't worry about that, as it is a fully redundant archive.
Do  you only have POP accounts?
What you are going to have to do is to create some On My Mac mailboxes, and then in the Finder, move batches of the xxxxx.emlx files from the Messages folder into similar Messages folders in enough On My Mac mailboxes so that no one Messages folder exceeds 2 GB.  This is because at 2 GB, Mail may not be able to index the messages in a single xxxxx.mbox folder.
Once you have created the On My Mac mailboxes in Mail, you must then Quit Mail.  In the Finder, you will find those On My Mac mailboxes within the Mailboxes folder found within the Mail folder.  You may have to create the Messages folder in each, if Mail does not do that at the moment of creation.
Once you have distributed the xxxx.emlx files across these new mailboxes, then also in the Finder, at the root level of the Mail folder, remove the Envelop Index files (may be more than one due to indexing failures, btw). then Relaunch Mail and allow it reindex all these messages in all these new mailboxes.  See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html
Pay no attention to its being for Lion, as this has not changed since Leopard (10.5.8).  Especially note that IMAP and Exchange account folder, if any, must be removed before doing this.
Got to go out for awhile, so if any questions, ask and I will address, later.
    Ernie

  • "send", "attach" boxes disappeared from new message screen.

My "New Message" screen no longer displays boxes to send, attach file, etc. I don't know what I did to cause it, and can't find out how to restore them. I can still use these functions from the menu bar, but the boxes were very handy and I'd like to have them back.

I found the problem. To see the "send", "attach" and other icons, click view>show toolbar.
