RED - Red Rocket and Premier Pro CS5.5

First post here and glad to be on PP. I'm a FCP Ship Jumper....
I'm an avid RED shooter...mostly underwater and have been since 2007 and first named RED cameras. I understand and know well the RED workflow....
September 24, 2011
Ok,
using Premier Pro on my desktop and love it. However, it is not utilizing my Rocket Card.
This is what i have done so far for downloads:
1. Download CS5.5
2. Download latest updates for CS5.5 from any of the programs by going to Help, Updates
3. Download latest (9/12 update for PP) update for Premier Pro to 5.5.1 at:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=98&platform=Macintosh
4. Download RED EPIC Importer at: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/redepic_importer/
5. Downloaded LATEST ROCKET DRIVER: 1.4.16
All Epic footage plays fine along with R1 footage in PP as well as in RCX Pro beta 3...ALL works great... EXCEPT I cannot get any Rocket acceleration within PREMIER....
Questions or Posible places I screwed up:
1. SHOULD i also download RED ADOBE CS4 Installer from RED Support page ?
2. Is the LATEST ROCKET firmware 1.4.16 actually supported---on most the threads i hear folks talking about Rocket firmware 1.4.7
LASTLY: maybe i need to activate the Rocket Card ? I've gone to project settings; and other places to see if there is a drop down box to activate the Rocket Card, but i don't find anything.....I'd expect i to be in Project Settings under General and then under Video Rendering and Playback....but that area is grayed out and will NOT let me change it...it's set to default Mercury Playback Engine Software......
Thanks for feedback

ANSWER:  Thanks to David McGavran and Steve Sherrick on Reduser forum for the ANSWER.....
SIMPLE:  go to your Project Window: top left area....then right click ANY R3d file...and choose Source Settings...go to bottom of that new window and choose Enable Rocket....the Rocket card is then enabled for all the clips and timeline....

  • Red Rocket and Premiere Pro CS6

So what I want to know is what exactly does the Red Rocket add to Premiere Pro CS6? I have one installed in my Mac Pro and have found similiar performance with it off and on in terms of playback and rendering. I found this post from Adobe employee Will Renczes in another thread:
To the OP:  I think you need to unravel the complexity.  You should also be able to get 4K RED files playing back @ 1/4 res without a Rocket - the only thing the Rocket brings to the table is realtime debayering @ full res.  There's plenty of people editing 4K footage on macbooks @ 1/4 res...
Is that really the only advantage to this $5000 card in Premiere? I won't see any increase in performance unless the playback resolution is set to full? I just tried a test and my computer definately lags playing it back in full res without the RR, but it still stutters a bit even with the RR activated. I guess I wish it helped the playback at lower resolutions, as well as during the export process.
Do any other Adobe CS6 apps make use of it better (Speedgrade perhaps)? If this card really isn't doing all that much, might just try to sell it. Darn you Adobe for being able to edit RED footage without a crazy expensive card!

Look at the preview resolution for your Red Timeline in Adobe. If you want to play 4K and 5K out to a monitoring solution able to handle that via Redcine-X then the Red Rocket is the way to go right now. If your transcoding red files constantly via Redcine-X then it also speeds that up. This is the case atleast till you start seeing HDMi 1.4 monitors that support 4K res.

  • Continuing problems with Matrox and Premier Pro CS5.5 Mac

What is wrong with Adobe and Matrox? Can't they get it together! Ever since switching from Final Cut Pro 7 to Premier Pro 5 and then 5.5 I have been having problems playing back footage from Premier through the Matrox Mini X02 box and then HDMI into a Sony HD monitor. No matter what I do with installs and re installs, the problem persists. The problem is that the Matrox software/hardware seems incapable of providing one simple little thing...playing back my Premier CS 5.5  1920 timeline into my Sony TV. The sound stutters and stops, the playback freezes and Premier won't start again until I reboot my Mac. Sometimes I have to repair disk permissions to get Premier to work again.  My hardware should be adequate. I have a MacPro 3.1 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon running in 64 bit mode under OS X 10.6.8, with 20 GB of RAM and a NVidia Quadpro FX4800 video card. I am running a Raid drive for the video.
Now I know that Adobe is trying to get as many FCP users as it can so I am wondering if there are other Mac users on this forum who have swtiched and who are having the same problems? I have read the reports on the Matrox forum and there seems to be a real saga over the Mini Max 02 and its software. There have been countless software revisions!
Should I abandon Matrox and go for a Black Magic card. I understand the Black Magic Pro card only does 1920 interlaced. I want a card that will be able to transfer anything Premier can display on its timeline and put it on my Sony Bravada. So that means progressive as sell as interlaced.

Hi all, matrox came good with a monitoring solution for premiere pro which now works perfectly. Not tried it with a deck connected but at least I can see what I am doing...
    Here it is:
Please check the following procedure. You can just do steps 5 to 13 at first. If it does not work then redo all steps. Let me know if it helps.
    1.    Uninstall the Matrox driver using the Matrox Uninstaller. The system will restart.
    2.    After the MAC has restarted, go to yourusername->library->application support->adobe->Premiere Pro->5.5 and delete the 'Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs' file  or use the ‘Preference Manager’ application: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
    3.    Restart MAC
    4.    Re-download and re-install the Matrox driver software
    5.    Go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Output
    6.    Change the default device to anything other than Matrox
    7.    Open a new project and select a Matrox sequence preset.
    8.    Open the Premiere Preferences menu.
    9.    Click on ‘Audio Hardware’ and set the default device to anything other than Matrox
    10.   Click on ‘Audio Output Mapping’ and set the ‘Map Output’ to anything other than Matrox
    11.   Close Premiere and re-open (only if you made any changes)
    12.   Open a new project and select a Matrox sequence preset.
    13.   Select a Matrox sequence, load a video clip, test playback.
Note: In Premiere, if you are working in a Matrox sequence and want to also output the Source window content through the MXO2, then you can do so by opening Premiere Preferences -> Player Settings -> and setting the value to 'Matrox Player'. Your source window video and audio will now be output through the MXO2.
Note: Audio output through the system sound card is not supported when working in a Matrox sequence.

am editing with red files in premier pro and when I export and then upload to youtube it is not showing as an hd video.  can anyone help?

Then it's probably YouTube - have you checked here to see that you're watching the hi res version? It could be that YouTube is choosing an easier version to display based on your internet connection.
You can see on this screenshot that although the video has up to 1080 specs, my connection is making YouTube show me the 360p version by default.

  • I think I need to re install Encore off my discs. When I ask Premier Pro CS5 to send my project to Encore, Encore opens but does not receive my movie sequence. How do I re install Encore only without upsetting my movie?

Hello. I have the Premier Pro CS5 suite on Windows. Can you advise me how to re install Encore off my discs without affecting any of my movie in Premier Pro please?
I ask Pro to send the movie sequence through Dynamic Link into Encore so that I can burn the sequence to a disc.
Encore does open but the sequence does not arrive from Pro.
Last night the sequence did arrive into Encore but took forever to transcribe and I eventually cancelled the process as it appeared to get stuck and did not quite get to writing to disc.
This morning the sequence does not even arrive into Encore.
Very frustrating when I have a 4hr movie that I want to write to Bluray so I have now created 4 separate sequences and want to try writing them onto DVD in 1hr chapters.
Hope someone can help me with this. Cheers. Janice

Hello Ann. Thank you for your help. I have re installed EN and I have now
sent parts of my movie to AME. I have then tried several different methods
of getting the encoded clips into Encore successfully. Once in the Project
panel and the Timeline, the movie does not show up in the Monitor panel
above, so I have proceeded to build and write to a disc. I've tried a
number of options but always end up with EN 'not responding' and having to
    close the program down.
Something else is that I do get a message whilst in Premiere Pro that there
is an update available for AME, however, when I look online I do not see an
update for CS5, although there are 2 updates for CS6. Can you suggest what
I could do please? The Encore problem is the one that concerns me the most
as I am not able to record my movie.
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Kind regards.
    Janice

  • Do I need to re-install the WHOLE suite or can I just install just Encore and Premier Pro?????

I'm having a problem with my Encore and Premier Pro software. I have the Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio Premium CS5.1. Encore will not allow me to burn DVDS. I'm getting an 52102 error...won't allow it to finish writing...ALSO Premier Pro stops after capturing about 5 or 10 minutes of video and freezes...do I need to re-install my software??? and if I do... do I need to install the WHOLE suite or can I just install just Encore and Premier Pro????? I can burn and image file and it burns DVDs on my old Corel software so I know its not the burner or the DVDs I'm using..I am in the middle of a big project for kids at school really need to figure this out...not getting anywhere online. Can anyone help??? Has anyone had this problem?  Hope I'm posting this to right place. THANKS!

I haven't had 52102 error, but seen it discussed. Here are a couple of links
    Error = Sense Code 52102
Encore Hardware Error Sense Code 52102
Burning the iso file to the dvd may not be the same process as burning directly from Encore to dvd, and so may not exhibit the same error, if any. See response 1 in the first link.

  • How to see time taken of the footage in premier pro cs5

    Hi,
I have captured the video footage from miniDV tape and brought it in premier pro cs5. I want to see the time at which the actual footage was recorded, not the file created or modified. For eg, 12th march, 2011 at 1.24PM. I tried to look under project panel and expanded it by pressing ~ key. On the right hand top fly out menu, pressed Metadata Display and searched under Premier pro project data and Basic. Couldn't find the right property to add. Any help appreciated.

  • How to blur the face of the person in the video using Adobe Premier Pro CS5

    Hi
I have a video captured from a flipcam. I have Adobe Premier Pro CS5 and I don't have  any knowledge of Adobe Premier Pro CS5 . Please can some one post a tutorial as how to blur the face of the person in the video using Adobe Master Collection CS5
Any help will be grateful .
    Thanks

You are not really in the right place.  I don't think you can edit video with Photoshop CS5, but Premier Pro CS5 can definitely do it.  Off the top of my head, copy the video track on the timeline, (hold down the Alt/Opt key and drag).
Then Effects > Video Effects > Stylize > Mosaic.
Adjust number of blocks in Effects controls.
Then add Video effects > Keying > Four point matte
Adjust position of matte in effects controls.
If you want the matte to track with the video, move to start point on time line and adjust position.  Move to end point and edit position.  Matte will now move from one point to the other.

  • Why won't my newly installed Premier Pro CS5.5 start?

I just had to have my PC overhauled with a new motherboard and decided to upgrade my Adobe software while I was at it. Installed the Production Suite today and when I try to start Premier Pro CS5.5 it acts like it is starting up, brings up the workspace screen but then just shuts down.
I've got an AMD Phenom II X4 840 Processor 3.20 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and am running Windows 7.
Photoshop and seval other of the Adobe Programs open just fine...though I haven't tried any of them out just yet...Premier Pro is what I need to use right now and so it's just par for the course that it isn't working.
Any ideas what the problem is?
    Thanks

Premiere Pro shut down...I didn't have a lot of time to try and work on this today but I did poke around trying to find the preferences and set about to pull up the event log before having to leave. I figured I would give it a look tonight...I opened some of the hidden files trying to find the preferences didn't have much luck...was about to figure out how to pull the event log (never done that before) when I happened to click on an old project file I had from my older version...and the program opened...even better it stayed open.
To my knowledge I did nothing at all other than look in some hidden folders. I have tried a couple of different times now to just open the program from the start menu and it works...now my firewire port is on the blink so I haven't had a chance to actually try the bugger out but I have verified that all seems stable...for now.
Thanks for the input...if I wind up having the trouble again I'll start with your suggestions but hopefully it won't come to that.

  • Premier pro CS5.5 crashes on open.

    Hello,
I'h having difficulty getting Premier pro CS5.5 to run. When opeing the program the splash screen is displayed and the main window launches and sits like this untill it is forced closed. All other adobe software runs.
    I have tryed the following:
    Reboot.
    Remove Premier preference files.
    Reinsall Premier .
    Update Premier to 5.5.2.
    Updated GPU drivers.
    Updated GPU drivers to beta.
    System Specs:
    Windows 7 Home 64bit
    i7 2600
    16GB RAM
    ATI 5770
Premier was runing on this machine before I reinstalled windows a few weeks ago.

Seems like you've hit all the things I might think of.  If no one else has an idea, the only one left may be to wipe Windows and try again.
And make sure you install nothing but what you need to edit with on this machine.  No games, no office, no email - just editing and associated tasks.

  • Desktop Mode (Premier Pro CS5)

I recently had a project that was nearly done and the first time I installed Adobe Premier Pro CS5, everything worked perfectly. Until recently, I had to reinstall the software and all of a sudden, it would only open in "Desktop Mode." All the video files I had used now say, "Media Offline." I'm hoping that there is a solution and I don't have to remake the entire sequence. How can I get the original sequence back with all the video files working properly?

    How do you "repair install?"
Things might have changed since CS2 (last time that I did one), but here are my steps:
Close all Adobe programs in a suite, or the single program if only stand-alone
Insert the Installation (Disk 1) media
Let it either AutoRun, or launch the AutoRun, if that is turned off in the OS
From the dialog screen, choose the program (if in a suite, you will need to navigate to that)
The installer module will have surveyed your system, and should have detected what you have installed
One should then get only two options: Uninstall, or Repair Install
When one chooses Repair Install, the installer module will again survey the system, but this time for the chosen program
It will then go about fixing the installation
Now, Adobe changes the installer module from time to time, so am not sure if CS5/5.5 would be any different.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Premier Pro CS5

When I am finished working on a project using Adobe Premier Pro CS5 I save the file. Then when I go to close out Adobe Premier Pro CS5 I get a message that says " Adobe Premier Pro CS5 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and will notify you if a solution is available." Why is this doing this, and what can I do to fix it?

  • Why can't  I render or export media all of a sudden in Premier Pro CS5?

I just had my computer serviced and now when I try to export media in Premier Pro CS5 I get an error "encoding failed: unk
nown error" and I cannot render either.  There are other problems with my other Adobe programs too such as in Encore when I try to build my DVD I get the "unable to transcode" error.  It almost seems like they somehow deleted some of my Adobe components. Everything worked fine before I took the computer in, I was just running out of space on my hard drive. Can I just re-install the entire CS5, or is that even neccessary?  I am using Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2 with and Intel Quad Core processor w/ 8GB ram and a 64bit operating system.
    Thanks for your help!!!

I was just running out of space on my hard drive.
And the servicing included a new one, tranjsferring the install via a system image? This is bound to cause problems, since the drive mapping won't match. Not just with Adobe products, but also otehr programs and Windows itself. Indeed a clean reinstall of everything is strongly advisable... In your case it has definitely bombed out the licensing info, hence you are unable to use anything related to MPEG or other formats that use CoDecs tied in with the activation...

  • Premier Pro CS5 (Mac) to WMV Workflow

I’m looking for a recommendation on a process that eventually yields a good quality WMV file. I’m using Premier Pro CS5 on a Mac and I need to have a finished WMV file for a corporate intranet. Normally, I deploy a H.264/.MP4 combination via the Adobe Media Encoder, so I’m not sure what settings and process I need to get a nice looking WMV. The final size will be 640 x 360.
    I really appreciate your advice.
    Thanks,
    Andy

First of all, there is no such thing as a "good quality WMV" from a Mac in my experience.  It's a horrible codec, and always looks like garbage to me, no matter how high a bit-rate I set.
But, that's a personal opinion; not scientific; an "eye of the beholder" thing.
I try to talk my clients out of using / requesting WMV.  FLV and MP4 look much better, are cross-platform, and can be exported from Pr Mac.
Anyway, when I lose that battle, I export ProRes from Pr, and use QT Pro with Flip4Mac installed to make WMVs.  The Flip4Mac plug-in lets you save presets to use within QT Pro.  I also use QT enabled apps like QT Amateur and Sorenson Squeeze to do batch exporting.  One could even use FCP just to do batch exports, as it allows WMV from within the application, unlike Pr for Mac.  And as others have posted, other apps like MPEG Streamclip also offer batch transcoding.
My sister has both Macs and Windows machines, and she says the quality is much better when using a Windows system to make WMVs.  So, perhaps my beef isn't so much with WMV, but with the Flip4Mac plug-in (which is the only way to get to and from WMV with a Mac).
