Red Rocket playback issues using transitions

Hi,
the title says it all.
Playback is smooth when I use the Red Rocket with Full Res. though when I use any kind of transition on the clips, playback stutters and is no longer in realtime.
When I deactivate the Rocket and just use my 4GB 670GTX at half res I've no problems.
I'm using CS6 and wonder if this problem is still in CC.
If this problem stays with CC I'm thinking of selling the rocket and invest in some better GrapicCard like the Titan.
System is:
Core i7
16BG RAM
OS on SSD
RAID 0 for Data
Nvidia 670GTX 4GB RAM
Regards
Manfred

First question is what dedicated internal SATA media drive you are playing the footage from?
Also, still pretty windy in Spokane.

  • Music playback issues using the new white iPod Touch with Ford's Sync System

When I connect my new 32GB white iPod Touch to the USB port of my 2011 Ford Focus' Sync system, I hear a lot of static and popping noises while the music is playing. It's almost like listening to old vinyl records.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    Absolutely have had this issue.
Here's a fix (but I hate it we have to do it this way):
You have to make sure your iPod's volume is turned all the way up. The static will clear. I haven't found a way around this. The Ford system ***** for that reason. Shouldn't have to rely on our iPods running at full volume in order to work. Seems to kill the battery quicker. But hey, at least you'll have clear sound.
Lemme know if it worked for you.

  • Red Rocket not used by AME

    Hi,
I am currently unable to get my Red Rocket working in AME.
I'm doing a RED R3D to Jpeg2000 transcode, and in Premiere I get around 2.3 frames/second, with all cores running around 50%.
In AME, all cores are maxed at 100%, but I only get around 1 frame/second. I conclude from this that my Rocket is not running in AME.
    I'm using the fnordware j2k jpeg200 compressor.
I've made sure that neither Premiere nor RedCineX have control of my card - I launch AME stand alone.
I've checked the "source settings" of my clip have "Use all available" for the Rocket.
Have reinstalled the most recent ImporterRED.prm and ImporterREDserver.exe files.
    I have Windows 7 64bit, AME CS6 6.0.3.1, latest Red drivers etc.
Not sure what to check next. REALLY need to get this working, as I have 21 hours of footage separated into 300-400 files to get through over the next few days. I need AME accelerated.
    ANY ideas appreciated.
    Matt

For now, you don't. This is a limitation that requires us to add a feature that allows the headless version of Premiere Pro and AME to cooperate in the use of the Rocket.

  • Premiere Pro CC playback issue

I'm running premiere pro CC on a brand new mac pro, and am experiencing playback issues after rendering video. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this happens, but I do notice it when layering multiple video tracks. When the rendered video is playedback, it seems to drop frames in the program monitor. Essentially, it looks like a flicker effect has been applied, and the video will cut out rapidly, and a black screen with apear every other frame. This stops randomly, and normal playback resumes.
I've had this issue working with Red footage, Canon DSLR footage and GoPro footage... Footage type doesn't seem to affect it. It doesn't necessairly happen when a transition or edit has been applied... I can't figure out any sort of cause.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

  • I have been getting the wierdest, most ridiculous issues using PP 2014 here is a list:

i have been getting the wierdest, most ridiculous issues using PP , 2014 here is a list:
unsyncing single-source a/v when aplying effects.
exporting the resynced clip to an even more out-of-sync clip
freeze frame. when applying stabilizer, clip will just stall on a frame whereas before the effect, it didn't
losing 2-3 hours of work due to auto-save failure. quitting premiere like normal but still having to force quit
ramdom green frames that just suddenly appear
    constant crashing
    crashing without auto saving
    severe artifacting
timeline, source, project thumbnails won't play
toggle to previous/next edit point won't work
significant, work-hidering issues in 90% of my project that collegues have never heard of
pefferences will suddenly change. auto-save set to every 5 minutes and 100 versions will reset to default and audio scrubbing has just turned off
no video, sound only during playback. freeze framing during playback
pasting an item other than what was copied. copied a mask, pasted and mask of diferent size and shape
inserting single frames between clips that i didn't add
    mixing unused video during transitions
    mixing unused video into masks.
the above image is a mask that is being distorted by the image on the left below but it is only occuring in the mask.
media pending sceen remains long after all content is loaded
artifacting in the form of green pixel fields after exporting
these issues are seriously hindering my ability to work. failed solutions i have run thru are:
    closing and reopening PP
    deleting render files and re-rendering
replacing the distored clip with a  fresh clip
    rebuilding the mask
    restarting my computer
    PRAM and smc resets
    uninstalling and re-installing PP
    what is going on???

    Hi DV,
Sorry you are having issues. FWIW, I also run a Mac and do not have these issues - however, I am still running OS X 10.8.5 on my personal machine.
First of all, we need a lot more info: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

You say you are using "PP 2014," however, that is not precise enough. Which version of Premiere Pro CC 2014 are you using? 8.0.1, 8.1, or 8.2? Choose Premiere Pro > About Premiere Pro and look at the bottom of the dialog box. That will give you a precise version number.

Indeed, that's quite a list. My first suggestion is that you check out this article and perform the fixes there, if necessary: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later) Are all the permissions set correctly?
The other issue I see a lot is needlessly updating a project file in the middle of a project. The advice here is to avoid updating a project file to a new version of Premiere Pro as you work on it. Update before a new project is created.
Try a test: update to Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2) and create a brand new project. Does it work better now?
    Thanks,

  • RED ROCKET & MOTION 4

Has anybody seen one of these:
    http://www.red.com/store/100-0012
I wonder if it would speed Motion up to any great degree?

They aren't DVI ports, they're DMS-59 plugs. They go to two breakout cables included with the Red Rocket that give you 4 dual-lnk DVI outputs for realtime playback of Red R3D files to a 4K monitor or projector. It also comes with an HD-SDI breakout plate if you want to use BNC instead.
Again, it's not a video card, its specialized hardware decoder made by DVS, a company who specializes in high-end video processing. OpenGL is a great technology, but it's origin stems from the need to generate three-dimensional scenes in realtime, with an emphasis on instantaneous perceived quality, i.e video games and simulations. The Red Rocket is centered around a process called debayering, which is totally different.

  • RED Rocket Card

Is the RED Rocket Card necessary to edit RED footage in Premiere CC?  I downloaded some test clips (that I believe are straight from the camera) and it wasn't as smooth as DSLR video, but it was smooth enough that I could work with it at 1/8 resolution without interruption.
I have a client that wants to use a RED camera on a project and I just want to make sure I'm prepared for it.
    Win 7 Pro, 64-bit
    i7-4770
    GTX 660 Ti
    16GB ram
    Thanks,
    JB

No the Red Rocket card is not required but currently takes an enormous load off the CPU allowing more complex editing and playback realtime without rendering the timeline. I would recommend it if you have a consistent Red workflow. If not then you can likely do without. The project will just take longer.

  • Red Rocket and Premiere Pro CS6

So what I want to know is what exactly does the Red Rocket add to Premiere Pro CS6? I have one installed in my Mac Pro and have found similiar performance with it off and on in terms of playback and rendering. I found this post from Adobe employee Will Renczes in another thread:
To the OP:  I think you need to unravel the complexity.  You should also be able to get 4K RED files playing back @ 1/4 res without a Rocket - the only thing the Rocket brings to the table is realtime debayering @ full res.  There's plenty of people editing 4K footage on macbooks @ 1/4 res...
Is that really the only advantage to this $5000 card in Premiere? I won't see any increase in performance unless the playback resolution is set to full? I just tried a test and my computer definately lags playing it back in full res without the RR, but it still stutters a bit even with the RR activated. I guess I wish it helped the playback at lower resolutions, as well as during the export process.
Do any other Adobe CS6 apps make use of it better (Speedgrade perhaps)? If this card really isn't doing all that much, might just try to sell it. Darn you Adobe for being able to edit RED footage without a crazy expensive card!
    -sam

Look at the preview resolution for your Red Timeline in Adobe. If you want to play 4K and 5K out to a monitoring solution able to handle that via Redcine-X then the Red Rocket is the way to go right now. If your transcoding red files constantly via Redcine-X then it also speeds that up. This is the case atleast till you start seeing HDMi 1.4 monitors that support 4K res.

  • New OSX not does not work with RED Rocket Card and old OSX Randomly Logs Out - UNSTABLE

It looks like my MBPR 16GB (MacBook Pro) randomly logs out and causes my programs to quit unsaved.  I can not update to the new OSX mountain Lion because the new Apple release is no longer compatible with the RED Rocket card needed for debaying RED Scarlet footage.  Mountain Lion causes the RED Rocket to not run correctly with Adobe Premiere.
At the same time, I am on Lion and my computer randomly logs me out and I lose all my work.  It seems as though the Retina is unstable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Can someone tell me how I can return this.  It seems as though I may have to switch the entire company over to PC if this is not figured out soon.

You probably have not received responses for two reasons.
    1. There are not many here that know what this is "RED Rocket card needed for debaying RED Scarlet footage"
    2. Your post appears to contain some sort of threat to Apple about moving to PCs. You are not addressing Apple here. We are users just like you. We don't care if you change over to PCs.
MBPs and Lion are very stable. Maybe your unsupported third party Red card is causing issues. Their answer seems to be that Mountain Lion is not supported. I wonder why?
My suggestion if this is a business environment is to not mess with this. If you know for a fact that your Red card works with PCs, change over to PCs. I know that if some tool was not working for my business I would not hesitate to get something that worked.

  • Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
    Here is more technical info:
    Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
    Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better.  If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS).  If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software.  FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

  • Weird Playback Issue...

I have this weird playback issue with iTunes for Windows. I am using Vista and I think the cause of the problem is that I am using MacDrive to access my OS X partition. But anyways, on with the problem. So the problem is that when I play a song, the song will play for like 5 seconds and then it will just go the next song. This song will do the same thing, and so-on and so-forth. Then, during this time, my Mac formatted hard drive is unavailable while iTunes is running. In "My Computer" the drive is there, but when I try to open it, Explorer freezes. Then, when I exit iTunes, it doesn't really exit. It still shows up in the task manager and when I try to end the process, it just plain doesn't end. I have to restart my computer to gain full use of it again. After the restart I can access my Mac disks, but once I start iTunes and try to play a song, I get the same thing again. And in case thats not weird enough, I can play the MP3's in WMP fine, and they will also play in iTunes fine if I actually open them, rather than just select them from my library. If I go to file open and select a song on my Mac drive, it will play fine, but then once I try to play a song from my library, I get caught in that vicious cycle. Anyone else had this problem or anything? Thanks. Also, is there an alternative program to Mac Drive that will allow me to read HFS partitions?

Post more about your situation... what format is the video, and where are you storing the video files? i.e., on a disk other than your startup disk? The adobe install is likely not the problem... I run adobe software along side FCS on about 75 workstations, and don't see issues like you describe.
Wavy? not accurate? what are you talking about?

  • ITunes 10.6/Quicktime 7 1080p playback issue/frame skipping

I have a playback issue with the 1080p videos on the recent version of iTunes - 10.6. I also tried playing the same videos on Quicktime where I was able to find that the videos were playing at around 20fps as opposed to their normal rate - 24fps~25fps.
I seem to barely meet the 1080p playback requirements on iTunes, but I know that I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Window Media Player(WMP) 12 without any issues. Aside from WMP, I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Youtube whenever hardware acceleration is enabled. I assume that WMP utilizes hardware acceleration as well.
The playback issue/frame skipping is probably caused by iTunes 10.6 not using hardware acceleration.

  • WINDOWS VISTA ITUNES VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE!!!!!! AAHHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

    hi slideaway!
my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • ICanon C100 playback issue premiere pro cc 2014

I am having playback issues in Premiere Pro CC 2014 with footage shot on my Canon C100 (29.97 fps).  It was happening after doing a straight import and creating a sequence using "new item".  Then, after reading some other threads here and elsewhere,  I interpreted the footage so premiere would see it as progressive (no fields) rather than interlaced, but that doe not seem to help.  It is even doing it when I play at 1/4 resolution.  The only solution seems to be to quit and restart and reopen the project.  Then it works temporarily for a little while but not long enough to actually edit.  I have done projects in Premiere with C100 footage in the past and have not experience this level of difficulty.
My Media Cache is not going to the startup diskc(it is gong to the right place)
I am on a Mac 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    OS X 10.8.5
    10GB 1066 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB
Please help - very frustrated.  If the solution is to transcode, it sort of kills the value of premiere in many ways.

    Hi,
    This might help :
Go to File > Project Settings > General and change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only. Click OK and select Delete Previews.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Prelude - Red Rocket Support

    Hi everyone,
My company and I are trying to implement Prelude into our workflow. Primarily, we shoot w/ a Red Epic and currently are experimenting w/ batch transcoding camera rolls through Prelude using the Adobe Media Encoder dynamic link.
The question I have is this: can Media Encoder take advantage of our current G5 tower's Red Rocket card to speed up the transcoding process, and if so, how do I select it (i.e., if available, where in Prelude/Media Encoder's interface can I find this feature?)
I know this type of question has been asked before--specifically,
    here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?66229-Should-Adobe-Media-Encoder-be-using-Red- Rocket and
here: Re: How to turn over RedRocket Control to AME from Premier?
..but no true answer has been given regarding this specific workflow.
I know Red Rocket acceleration is possible in Premiere (and that the Red Rocket card can work w/ only one program at a time)--but what about batch transcoding R3D's in Prelude through Media Encoder. I'd prefer to not use RED-CINE X as we're interested in using all of the XMP metadata features in Prelude.
For reference, the machine I'm running is the following:
    MAC OS X Version 10.9.4
    Processor: 2X2.26 Ghz Quad--Core Xeon
    Memory: 32 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3
    Mac Pro Era Early 2009
    Red Rocket Card (firmware 1.1.17.3)
    Adobe Creative Suite CC 2014
If anyone could advice, it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    John

Yes, you can use the Red Rocket to speed up encoding in AME, but it probably won't do you much good in your specific case I'm afraid. Here's how the workflow would go:
    1. Select RED files for ingest in Prelude
    2. Specify destination location and preset
    3. Start the batch
    4. Once AME is open, stop the queue that has started automatically
    5. Right-click on a job and choose "Source Settings"
    6. Enable the Red Rocket
    7. Go to step 5 and repeat for each job in the queue
As you can see that would be a lot of work for what may be minimal gain depending on how long it takes to encode the media with the Red Rocket turned off. Where this workflow really excels is when the source in AME is a longer form sequence such as a Prelude rough cut or a Premiere Pro sequence. I could certainly see adding a global option to always enable the Red Rocket for RED sources, but that would be a feature request, which you can submit here: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
I hope this helps even if it isn't exactly what you were probably hoping to here.
