Red Scarlet(?), FCP, QuicktimePRO,... greenscreening and cutting objects..

Hi again.. (now this question comes assuming everything has been done right.. lighting, focus, etc..) After someone has digitally filmed a video sequence and then broken it down into individual frames(USING QT PRO).. lets say you have shot something simple such as a man against a greenscreen backdrop.. this now being a single tiff file, and you're only dealing with this one image file at a time, what program could cut him out with the highest detail of accuracy? I see adobe has either lightroom or it may have been imageready that simply paints a mark on the object and it cuts it out for you.. and i know photoshop has that magic trace tool.. but what would be the most accurate.
Or, would it be better to as Mike Barber wrote: "FCP has chroma key capabilities, as does After Effects. Shake may be your best bet, however a very complex tool to use."
I plan on doing different things in Photoshop with these images though.

FWIW, I just came off a project where I had to pull about forty keys. I found the Final Cut keyer kinda weak. We were on a serious deadline and not getting acceptable results so, in a panic, I dropped five bills on the Primatte plug in, the same keyer as you find in Motion. It did an awesome job! I never quarreled with their "Auto" setting. Very clean keys. Made my deadline. Very happy guy.

What kind of Sequence do I create for an edit involving RED Scarlet and Mark 3 DSLR Footage?

I'm trying to cut together a video made up of both Red Scarlet Camera footage (R3D) and Mark 3 DSLR Camera footage (H.264 Quicktime Movie), and my question is what kind of Sequence should I create to put both of these type of footage on and should I change the footage in any way? Could I also possibly add MPEG 4 files to this sequence as well?
Any help you could give me on the matter would be appreciated.

You can mix and match any footage into the same sequence with no penalty, and no transcoding.
Ideally, you'd create a sequence that matches the resolution of the smallest footage you have, scale the higher resolutions down, and then output to the sequence resolution.
However, that might not be what you need, depending on what your output resolution needs to be.
If your required output resolution is higher than the smallest resolution footage, then you should create a sequence at the output resolution, and possibly use After Effects to upscale your lower res footage using the wonderful Detail Preserving Upscale effect. This will maximize your footage quality.

Might purchase Red "Scarlet". Will I get full 3k quality in FCP?

I was originally going to purchase a $5k panasonic after christmas this year (along with a few other apple toys) for a project. But my research pointed me to Red Cinema. I understand a little about this 3 to 5k revolution. I know it's the next step for digital vid recording and I want it.
I ordered the last version of IMovie (hd06) hoping it was going to be one of the tools I was going to use. Unfortunately I was wrong and I'm going to now have to learn FCP. Perhaps even take a few classes to help me out. But if I purchase a Scarlet, will FCP with this DPX file whatever (yeah, that's how computer savy I am) be able to edit 3k? I do rotoscope work and the better the detail in video frames, the better my finished product looks.
I know it's new in the Red game but another reason I liked the panasonic was it had two XLR inputs so I could do some mean sound mixing. The scarlet looked like it had one mini jack. Not exactly sound explosions there. Anyone help preeshed.

Where to begin. I ask alot of questions on forums. And anytime I do I get this mass of USELESS feedback. I need answers, not opinions. I know the friggin camera hasn't come out yet. I'm also ready to drop gobs of money on this project. Because it pleases me. And oh yeah, I have an original idea. Which is a rareity in this world nowadays. I've even started work on a makeshift surround sound idea that I'm in absolute love over. I get alot of slack in these forums for "being out of my league". I say screw em. I've been writing script since 2001 and am in love with not only this but a film I've been writing since the 90's. I'm doing it all myself. Minus the few questions I ask on these boxey talk things.
My main concern has always been the camera. I originally did multitudes of test shots with an older panasonic. And the old IMovie program did what I wanted it to do. Except for the fact that it would only run individual jpeg frames at 20 fps. The quality of playback was lousy. BUT! If I ran the segments back into the camera instead of creating a craphole quicktime file it would remain flawless. This was the idea except I waited for technology to catch up with my idea. I needed a faster Mac and yes (*gasp) a PC for frame break down. I was going to see where IMovie was going and with HD06 I nearly had it. Except for, guess what.. 20 fps. I'm not going to stoop to 20 fps. 30 maybe. I actually want 60 or more. And I'll do the work. I do alot of my work on canvas for backgrounds. Sketched and had painted. Then I shoot them with my Mark3. I wanted a hasselblad but that would be ridiculous. But of course I am ridiculous.
The VIDEO camcorder that I was planning on purchasing was the panasonic agx200. Maybe it was the 201a I can't remember I've looked at so many cameras. Then of course theres the whole dvtape vs. internal hard drive thing between the leopard and the tiger. IMovie06 only takes in dvtape while the leopard with the vile IMovie08 worked with HDD.
I saw these Youtube features on the RED and this guy (http://petersalvia.wordpress.com/red/) taking about 2k editing in final cut pro.
If you've read this far you know what I want. QUALITY! I want single frames of video to be clear enough to work with. I want a camera that I can record decent audio into using some relatively inexpensive mics and mixer. It's not impossible to conceive someone creating their own cartoon series is it?? It happens from time to time and someone is succesful at it. I know what I want to do. I'm willing to put time and effort into this idea. I get alot of crap for it too. From people who think theyre gurus of the industry. Yet don't have an original idea in their heads. Sure you can record some waste of time conference in utah succesfullt and broadcast it on the net, but ****, thats all you can do. Give me something I can use.
I need a good camera and something that can import it and keep the quality loss to a minimum. It's that simple.

PS CS6 Edit commands grayed out to copy / cut objects and layers?

Why are my edit commands (copy and cut) grayed out / unavailable? When trying to copy a selected layer or object, all my editing commands are grayed out and unavailable. No idea why. Even if I convert something to a smart object, no joy. The only thing I seem to be able to select and copy/cut/paste is text in the text edit mode. makes no sense and is rendering PS unusable. How do I fix this?

Your seeing the transform handles with the move tool.
Try something like this:
Open an image
Click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool in the tool box
(just below or to the left of the move tool in the tool box)
(or press M on the keyboard)
Draw a selection (marching ants)
Edit>Copy
Edit>Paste
You should end up with a new layer with the copied contents from within the selection

Templates for charts and other objects

Hi, new to this group, and a newbie to Macs, too.
When I do my own presentations, not relying on the templates of Keynote, I notice that when I insert a chart or any object, it looks so, what's the word? so bland and even unattractive.
So kindly allow me three questions:
First, how do I access the nice-looking charts and objects of the Keynote templates without having to open one up and cutting and pasting them on my presentation?
Second, where do I find the textures that the chart templates use for background? In which folder are they stored?
And third, which is, I suppose, a frequent plea, where can one find other templates? The ones available on the Internet aren't as well-composed as the bundled ones.

1. You can't, the chart settings are built into each theme, there's no way to get them without opening a theme. One thing you COULD do though, is make a bunch of cool charts, and copy and paste them into a "holding" file that you open when you need it. Then you won't have to constantly make an empty file, create a table and copy and paste it. The other alternative, especially if you like one particular style and will likely use it most of the time, is to lock in the table style to your own file once you've used it on your own slide once. You can find that function under the Advanced menu.
2. They aren't stored in a folder. With Keynote 1, Apple did provide you with a .key file that had chips of color or texture in it, but now they don't. You could create your own by making a bunch of objects, and then using the Copy Style functions in Keynote to copy the style of say, a colored bar in a chart, onto say, a square you just made in your new file.
As for the templates found on the web being not as well composed as the Apple one's, I beg to differ. Have you seen Keynotepro or keynotethemepark? My stuff (Keynoteuser.com) isn't as snazzy or artistic (though I think it's more usefull in most cases for the business world than many of the Apple templates) the stuff the other sites are doing is up there in quality to Apple's. Keynotepro especially is churning out stuff that in my opinion is better than Apple's.

FCP 5.02 and 5.03 HDV codec not found?

Hi i installed a few systems but now i have a machine (G5 tiger 10.4.2 fcp 5.03 and a BM card with driver 5.1.1etc. etc. where if i try to choose easy setup it tells me Codec not found. you may be using a compression type without the corredponding hardware card.
and if i then choose seq. setting HDV :
Videocompressor HDV 1080i50 was not found present and enabled for this compressor setting the video compressor to Animation?
Also there are still intermidate codec's in my library? :
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Custom Settings/HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50.fcpre

When I capture from my camera in anamorphic and the picture is smashed down and cut at both sides, what capture settings shall I put?

please tell me the correct video-settings for capture and sequenze. Actually my camera films in anamorphic and when I capture the images is cut at right and left. So I changed the settings to anamorphic, but it doesn't work well. The image is smashes down and cut at right and left. I don't understand why. Can you help me to put the correct settings for my case? Thank you

Also, as you well know in Spanish, the "accent" does "slice" either way. Over vowels, such as "a" and "o"...

If this didn't work, follow this creativecow post to modify cameras.plist file; if there's still no go, follow this guide to either modify the .plist file or convert your footage to Apple ProRes, the native editing format of Final Cut Pro.

A function containing switch statement and foreach-object loop

in my testdomain.lab, i have following five OUs in mt test AD structure:

i have created following five variables:

$OUcomputers = 'ou=OUcomputers,dc=mytestdomain,dc=lab'and so on
now i have created a function which gets this names as input &
foreach-object creates the related OU.
but the problem is sometimes when i run my function, maybe some of those five OUs
currently exist in AD so this will cause a
terminating error.
so i know i must use switch statement to define conditions like this:
if $OUusers doesn't exist, execute this : new-ADOrganizationalunit $OUusers
if $OUcomputers doesn't exist, execute this : new-ADOrganizationalunit $OUcomputers
and so on...
it's a long time which i am trying to create a
function which contains such switch statement & properly forEach-object loop.
i have studied switch and foreach-object loops , but this scenario is complicated for me & i was unable to get the correct code.

jrv, That can't be the solution because when you running a command which tries to creates an OU
which already exist in AD, causes a
terminating error which has two caveats:
1- shows red error message on screen
2- stops and doesn't continue to execute next lines of code
Note that -ea silentlycontinue and -ea ignore have no effect on
terminating errors and they cn't hide error messages, also script can't continue.
i examined that.
to get sure, run this function in your test AD & see the result:

Best ways to run FCP 10.1 and FCP 7 on same machine?

I though I understood this complication was resolved with the introduction of FCP 10.1. Is having FCP 10.1 and FCP7 on the same drive and partition still a problem. I have partitioned my SSD Boot drive in case if it is, however had planned on using only half for Applications ONLY and the other half for occasional projects. I really didn't want any applications (FCP 10.1) on a cluttered partition.
I thought I read about a work around to keeping FCP 10.1 and 7 together in the same application partition. It had something to do with just taking all the application out of the old Final Cut Studio folder and just dropping them in the (root) folder. If this is really possible, this sounds like the best solution to my issue.

As Ian has discussed loading the apps is a piece of cake.
What can happen if you have updated over one or more Operating Systems is that any "bad luggage" contained in a previous system can be inherited.
That is why a "Clean install" is done.
Another thing worth considering is using another drive altogether to load Mavericks "Clean Install" and boot from that. It's called dual boot.
This would leave you existing drive and stuff untouched.

FCP Stopped working and will not re-open

I am using a Powerbook with OS 10.4.11. I was using FCP 5.0.1 with my LaCie 500 gb HD. In the middle of editing, the FCP screen went fuzzy with "snow". My LaCie external HD cut out and all of my media went off line. Now whenever I try to open FCP it starts for about 5 seconds then closes out. (My project does open fine on another Mac via my external HD.) I need to get FCP up & running again quickly. Do I need to do a re-install of the software? If so, do I need to uninstall first?
Please tell me the most direct way to fix this.

SPAU query for documentation and maintainance and transport object

Hi All,
I am working on upgrade using SPAU. In without modification assistant there are two nodes and objects in red- 1. maintenance and transport object 2. Documentation.
When I click on maintenance and transport object , I get the red button for cluster maintenance SOBJ.I try to open in maintain/change mode but it is not giving any option to activate or anything. As it is maintenance it gives an option to create a new entry only.( see attached capture1 & capture2)
What do we need to do to make it green ? I tried to search but did not get anything related to this. I have attached screen shot for the same.
Also for documentation, what needs to be done as adopt modification ? I get the pop up for create modification when I click on data element documentation. Do I need to create modification ? what should be the template type ? (Please see the attached screen shot capture3 ).
Also for both I get 'no version found'.
I would really appreciate your help.

Slice, cut object

Have a circle, skeich a line, cut object to line shape. The slice thing creates something, don 't care about. In Xara and Painter sketch a stroke and hit slice or cut and the object is cut to the new shape. CS5, this thing must be re-designed for artists working fast.

Yes the knife tool is fine but you can also use the pathfinder as well with more precision and the ability to fine tune the divisional demarcation. Using the divide command. that is because you can move the lines before you hit the divide command.

Issues in persisting dynamic entity and view objects using MDS

I'm trying to create dynamic entity and view objects per user session and to persist these objects throughout the session, I'm trying to use MDS configurations(either file or Database) in adf-config.xml.
I'm facing following two errors while trying to run the app module:
1. MDS error (MetadataNotFoundException): MDS-00013: no metadata found for metadata object "/model/DynamicEntityGenModuleOperations.xml"
2. oracle.mds.exception.ReadOnlyStoreException: MDS-01273: The operation on the resource /sessiondef/dynamic/DynamicDeptEntityDef.xml failed because source metadata store mapped to the namespace / DEFAULT is read only.
I've gone through the following links which talks about the cause of the issue, but still can't figure out the issue in the code or the config file. Please help if, someone has faced a similar issue.

Hi Frank,
I m trying to save entity and view object xml by calling writeXMLContents() and saveXMLContents() so that these objects can be retrieved using the xmls later on.
These methods internally use MDS configuration in adf-config.xml, which is creating the issue.
Please share your thoughts on resolving this or if, there is any other way of creating dynamic entity/view objects for db tables created at runtime.
