Red Screen of Media Offline

I had problems with my old Macbook Pro processing Premiere Pro, so I bought the new Macbook Pro.  It works great, but I have run into another problem.
I was working on a new project editing a wedding.  As long as I closed my computer and kept my external drive connected, I could open the computer and continue with my project.  However, the one time that I disconnected the external drive and turned off the computer, I get the red screen saying media is offline.  I can go back and relink one file at a time, but is there a way that they will all get reconnected without having to do each clip individually?  I have almost 200 clips!
I am using Premeire Pro CC.

  • Premiere pro cc 2014 black screen or "media offline"

Almost impossible to do much work in Premiere CC 2014. I use 3 machines in business and Premiere doesn't work with any of them for long. I can be editing fine for about an hour then suddenly my program monitor goes black or says media offline. The only way I can get it back is to reboot about 4-5 times before the project will load again. This happens regardless of where the media is stored, what version of Mac OS is used, or what plugins are used. Anybody else experiencing this?

Hey John! Thanks for the help! So far I've encountered the issue on three different macs. Two are stock iMacs so some AMD chip. The third and least problematic is a desktop running a GTX 780 with CUDA 6.0.46. I will have to check on the two iMacs on Monday... I'm updating the Cuda for the desktop to see if that changes anything.

  • Media Offline As Soon As I Import

    Hello,
I just got Adobe Premiere Pro.  I saved all the videos from my camera onto my hard drive.  I then imported the videos off my hard drive into Premiere.  Although I see files have been imported I see no video, only the red screen saying media offline.
How can media be offline when I just imported it?  What am I doing wrong?
Thank you to anyone who can help.

Glad that the Relinking of the Media fixed things for you. Normally, one does not need to do any Relinking, as the Link should be established upon Import. Out of curiosity, are those Assets on an external, or networked HDD?
Thanks for reporting what cured things for you, and welcome to the forum.

  • PE12 Instant Movie Project Media Offline

I'm using PE12 and downloaded Outdoor Adventure template. Ran the instant movie and then in a couple places I found a red screen with "Media Offline" in about 15 different languages. The event log says problem with 3 PNG files but I verified the files exist in the Outdoor Adventure template folder. I deleted the template and downloaded again but still received same error.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I am running windows 7 pro under the actual administrator account not as a local user with admin rights
Since I am logged in as the administrator is this still necessary?
Still get the error but I did save the project file and re-open. I had not previously saved the project. When I re-open I get the same red screen
This time the event "error" log has only 2 events and also a message popped up asking me to link the file "outdoor-adventure_s_texture.png"
I looked in the folder C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Premiere Elements\12.0\Online\Movie Themes\All_Lang\Event\Outdoor Adventure and the file was missing.
I copied the file "outdoor-adventure_texture.png" and just modified the name to "outdoor-adventure_s_texture.png" and the error message went away.
I downloaded the theme pack once, cleared it out, and re-downloaded. I guess that file is missing.

  • "Media offline" in Final Cut Express

Using an external drive as my scratch disk (or at least I think I am), and after exporting video clips into FCE, changing the name of the clip to make it more descriptive, everything appears to be fine. If I close the program and return, all the clips I loaded now have a red line through them and the screen says "Media Offline." I've tried and tired to "reconnect" but that doesn't work. I also can't find the clips on in the FCE folders on either my hard drive or laptop. Any suggestions?

Pardon my mis-nomenclature. I captured video clips from my camcorder into FCE. I changed the names of the clips in the browser window (I don't know what the formal name is, but it's the window that shows up in FCE showing your clips), which I had done before without any problem.
A complicating factor: After I had captured most of a tape's worth of clips, I realized that my laptop was designated the scratch disk. I changed the designation to my hard drive, and dragged the capture folder over to the hard drive. Those clips continue to show up fine. It's only the clips I've captured after all this that are lost or "offline."

  • Media Offline message

After hiding FCE i reopened to find The 2 main windows had red background & said Media Offline, red bar across whole timeline although I had already rendered where necessary And also there are red strikethroughs on all the icons in the Browser. what has happened please & how do I undo it? Thanks

A _file path_ must have been altered in some way somewhere.
Did you change a file name outside of FCE?

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
If you opened a previously saved closed project and were greeted by a colorful media offline display and "Where is the file.....?" messages, there are at least two possibilities.
    1. You have move, deleted, or renamed files and folders that you imported into the project after you saved closed the project.
When you import media into the the project, all you get in the project are copies of the originals which are at a hard drive save location. However, the project needs to
trace back to those originals at the location where they were when you first imported them into the project. You can use the "Where is the file....?" messages to reconnect
your source media to the project. Can be time consuming and a nuisance.
    2. If you stored the project's source media on an external hard drive and that drive changed drive letter for some reason, this would create a media disconnect situation.
Correct the drive situation if this applies to you.
Please review and consider and supply more details. We can discuss this and other related matters (such as use of the Project Archiver) depending on your details.
    Thank you.

  • Offline Red Screen Please Help!

Hi everyone!  I put a video file I made onto an external harddrive (500 gigs).  I tried to bring this file up on my computer.  What is now showing on my software (Premiere Elements 4) is a red screen with the words "media offline" in several languages.  What do I need to do to retrieve the file?  It took me a long time to make this video and do not wish to do this again.  Adobe will not answer my question.
    Thank you,
    [email protected]

In addition, I often edit to/from externals on my laptop and my workstation. The setting of the drive letter is used in the OS of each machine.
I also am using copies of my Assets (originals stored elsewhere) and I keep these organized under the [Project Name] root folder, with sub-folders for "Video," "Music," "Stills," etc. The nice thing about doing it this way is that PE/PrPro is pretty smart, when it cannot find an Asset. When the "Can't Find... " screen pops up, you only have to navigate to the appropriate sub-folder and find the first file. Premeire will then locate all other Assets in that folder.
If the Assets are scattered about, then one may have to navigate to the location of each to get them all re-Linked. Good Project setup and housekeeping can go a very long way toward a rewarding editing experience.
I inherited an existing Project, where 2000+ Assets were scattered all over an external. Many had the same exact file names too, but were in different folders (many not sub-folders of the Asset-type)! I had to play the "approval" DVD's (there were 4 @ 2 hrs. each) on one machine, while I re-Linked each Asset by hand. This took most of two full days. Proper prior planning goes a very long way to keeping things straight and making life so much easier.

  • Had to rebuild system: Media Offline (in red) on some clips. WTH? How to reconnect?

This is likely siple, but I'm stumped. My O.S. (Win7 Pro) became hopelesly corupted, so I was forced to reinstall. I'm done, CS5 back up and running, but I have a project that is acting wonky.
ABout a dozen of the clips in the timeline/sequence are RED and show as Media Offline. Now, when I open the project I don't get a popup looking for them. The clips are all AVI files and I have checked and yes, they are where they are supposed to be.
What is the process of having Premiere Pro understand where they are again? I'm not finding an answer that works.
Thanks again. I am sure I will have other questions.
Oh yeah, like, how do I get Media Encoder to stop using my SSD drive (my C drive) as the location where it does it's thing? You know... you Export to the Queue and it bring up Media Encoder and the sequence might be headed for the drive you tell it, but it clearly shows the C drive as the temp place or whatever. I made the change long ago, but now forget.

With system rebuilds, or when migrating to a new system, installed CODEC's are often forgotten. Project A worked, and then after the change, one gets the "Media Not  Supported... " error message.
Glad that you found the issue. I will be doing, a couple of new machines, and hope that I have made adequate notes on which CODEC's I need to install on them.
That said, I have one caveat: often, a user is temped to just download and install an "all-inclusive" CODEC "pack," rather than step through the list, one at a time. I urge anyone to NOT do that. Install what you need, when you need it, and if there are commercial versions vs free versions, spend the few $'s to go "to the source."
    Good luck,

  • CS3 exporting drop outs and red screen flashes when exporting via Media Encoder

    Hi forum
I have been using Premiere Pro CS3 for a long time on my dual core PC with no issues.  Suddenly, I am now getting a major issue i MUST get sorted asap for a client is waiting for the final video.
It is a HDV (1080i, 25fps) project/timeline.  An 8 minute video has been put together in this and every time I try to export as either MPEG2 (Blu Ray) or WMV, I am getting pixelation in certain places usually around certain cuts, or horrible red blocky pixels filling up the screen for a second or two. They seem to come always at the same point.  They don't happen when i render the timeline or show up when playing the edit itself in the timeline - just when i playback the exported video in premiere or in Windows Media Player.
To try a workaround I exported the whole video as high quality MPEG2 (blu ray - 30mbps), which I brought into a new sequence, then I exported small sections where this problem was happening as Uncompressed Microsoft AVI and called them "patch 1", "patch 2" etc. and brought them back in and overlayed over where the problems were occuring.  The short Uncompressed AVI patches seem to have exported with no glitches, so theoretically I thought I had a clean good timeline in my new sequence made up of the MPEG 2 video overlayed in the dodgy places with uncompressed AVI "patches".  However, trying to export a new MPEG 2 master from this has created the same problems, in the same places!!! Still drop outs and still those horrid red flashes filling the screen.  Not always as bad, and some places where there were problems are ok, but I am still left with most of the problems still there.
I am now trying to export the whole video as an AVI uncompessed but dont know if this will work and will take a very long time.
I do have Saphire plugins, but they are not being used in this new sequence so therefore could that be a possible problem?  I thought perhaps it was the brightness/contrast filter etc so removed that from some of the problem areas, and it helped on some of them, but not on others, so not sure its anything to do with my plug in or filters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks, James

This topic is about a year old, but I thought I would reply because I just experienced this problem very recently and stumbled upon an easy solution.
Problem: When using Adobe Media Encoder to create an HD or .m2v video file, a bright red screen will flash followed by a mashup of red blocks/pixels somewhere within the file you've just encoded. This phenomenon lasts for exactly 10 frames before clearing up.  Most likely, you won't see this problem until you import the encoded file into Adobe Encore.  It shows up on the timeline, the preview monitor and the DVD itself. It occurs on edits that the system reads as being corrupt or when a flash bulb goes off from a still camera.  Both instances make the encoding process go haywire.
Solution: Encode your HD or .m2v file with CBR (1-pass) bitrate encoding rather than VBR (2-pass).  Don't worry about losing any quality in your video or creating unnecessarily large file sizes with your new renders. I guarantee you won't see much of a difference, if any.  I can't explain why this solution works.  It just does.
Hope this helps you as much as it did me.

  • AME encodes queue with "Media Offline" screen

Hi, sometimes AME encodes files with media offline screen, even though the files exist, while im batch encoding a bunch of videos. im wondering what i could do about that, or if there is any way to make AME postpone encoding a video that has any media offline? it is annoying because i wake up after leaving the thing on to encode overnight and find that some of the files have not encoded properly and have to reencode them. also it annoying because i cant trust that they will come out right and have to check every single file, frame by frame..
    thanks in advance
    -murphy

In AME preferences, uncheck the beckbox named "Import Sequences natively" and let us know if that works.
Unlike PPro, AME doesn't do media relinking so that could be one of the potential causes for this problem.
Another cause could be that you installed plugins in PPro that you didn't put in AME plugins folder.
Anyhow, please try unchecking that checkbox and let us know more details about your workflow - like what plugins you are using, what codecs are in your sources, what effects you are using, etc.
Also, if you don't want to encode media offline, there is a checkbox in preferences called "Don't encode sources containing offline media"

  • Media Offline AGAIN

I am running Premiere CS4 for Mac. This is the third major crash I've had, and I've only just recently had this software. I don't understand how software this expensive can cause so much grief.
Like before, I was importing an .mov (just rendered from after effects), and I got the message that the width/height was too large. So I "saved as" just in case. Of course, when I opened the project again, everything was red screened.
The first time I was red screened, I started a new project and imported my old project. This time it didn't work, it's still red screened.
Not only that, since I had the last crash, I have been "Saving As" at the end of every day. But for some reason every single one of my save files is made  entirely of "Media Offline" messages, and this includes all of the automatic backups. The only media that's working are aeps.
What is going on? And how can I fix this?

I am no expert but I have a couple of questions for you.
I assume that this “Red Screen” is the windows equivalent to the “blue screen of death?”
When you do the “save as” does the file go in the same location as the one you were working on or do you have to move it there?
    Please read this.
You might want to give the full specs of your computer, your Project and the Assets used in that Project. More details will be better.

  • Media Offline not offline and unable to re-import sound and movie files

I'm getting the dreaded red Media Offline screen and I've tried everything to fix it. To explain I am working on a movie with sound and various bunches of still images imported as numbered stills to be automatically converted to a movie for an exhibition. All well and I was bringing the finished project into Encore when something happened... I don't know, maybe it's because all of the files are on an external hard drive (LaCie) and I had to plug into the LaCie another harddrive with my CS4 install files on it to install Encore... Whatever it was it broke the connection and even though all the files are still there Premiere can't see them. And when I try and re-import them it gives me the message "File video dimensions (width/height) too large" even though it is the same project. And it gives me the same message even with the sound file. From googling I have tried: deleting .xmp files on the HD, repairing disk admissions, creating a new project in Premiere and re-importing the files to see if that worked - didn't work, still kept up the same "File video...too large" message and this is even after..re-updating the software (up-to-date but re-installed it anyway).
I can only think of two other things: it's the hard drive or to get CS6 somehow. Can anyone suggest something else to fix?

Well it can't be a codec problem either as I am mostly only using jpegs in numbered stills. anyone help?
