Red shadowing on Samsung TV

I bought a 50 in Samsung plasma screen TV in November of 2010. A couple of months ago, we started to notice that there was red shadowing on the screen while watching shows.  It is not a broken pixel as it moves like thepicture does.  It is getting worse and worse.  Is there anything that we can do?

This is most likely a voltage issue that Samsung released a firmware update for. Check your firmware version and see if there are any updates available.

  • T61 display artifacts (blue stripes and red shadowing), external monitor is fine

    Hello everyone!
I have a Lenovo T61 laptop that's just (in March) ran out warranty and obviously developed peculiar single-pixel-level artefacts. Now I know that these kind of problems are generally solved by buying a new laptop, but I'm not convinced that this isn't a software problem. Given below are my observations, so, engineering minds, let's unite and please help me solve this.
    Relevant specs:
    OS: Windows XP SP3 & Ubuntu 11.04
GPU: Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (version 266.58)
    TFT Panel: 1440x900
    The big problem:
White display areas have every other column in cyan (Image A), black areas have red shadowing (Image B). The artefacts are present in both OS and in the BIOS screen as well (which is really bad, I know). Red and cyan is both due to the red channel, so we can narrow this down, other colours are displayed fine.
The PECULIARITY of this artefact is that it is only present for:
Cyan columns - pixel values above 247
Red shadowing - pixel values below 4 (And I mean EXACTLY those values, value of 4 - no artefacts, value of 5 - completely unbearable. See Image C, where this display is photographed while showing two patterns with only that slight variation is pixel values. Patterns are attached as D)
Middle gray (value 127) causes flickering, while 128 is perfectly fine.
    Solutions tried so far:
Reinstalling GPU drivers - no avail
Setting display contrast to < 35% in Nvidia control panel - artefacts dissappear nearly completely.
I've never heard of such a thing, but since the causing values are so exact I can't believe that this is just fried panel or a broken cable.
    So what do You think?
    Regards,
    Lukas

    Welcome to the forum!
    Your GPU is failing.
Lenovo might or might not fix it, although it's out of warranty. They are *extremely* well-aware of the problem that plagued these chips.
Reading related threads here or on Bill Morrow's ThinkPad Forum will reveals hundreds - if not thousands - of similar cases...
    Good luck.

  • Strange red shadows in backit portrait in ACR - but ok in ViewNX

I've recently been processng NEFs from a D300 using ACR without any problems. Until...
The following photo has some very wierd red shadows when imported using ACR5.5. But when viewed using the Nikon ViewNX 1.4.0 they look perfectly ok. I've also tried using ACR4.x (the one distributed with PE6) and it's just the same as 5.5. The whole batch of photos taken using this lighting setup show the problem. I was using a Dlte2 on minimum power behind the subject pointing toward the camera and reflectors on the sides. The camera is using the AdobeRGB space.
    http://cpalmer.me.uk/public/20090918-_KTP6886.NEF
The problem is most visible under her chin to the right of her hand, and on the hair just up and to the right of there.
I'd really appreciate any insights as to why it appears so "badly" in ACR but looks fine in viewNX and in-camera. And how I might proceed with processing these...
    Many thanks
    Chris

Your shadows are clipping at ACR default of 5. Dragging the black slider to zero should fix the problem.

  • Color LaserJet CP1518ni blue print with red shadows, help !

Blue text prints with a red shadow on the right side of the page only.  There is no magenta in the blue.  All other colors print fine.  I have tried a new magenta cartridge and it was the same.  All cartridges are OEM.  I updated the firmware and it did not help.  Calibrted and cleaned many times.  Any ideas?

I have a similar issue with a Laserjet cp1525nw, it was mostly corrected by removing and reseating the toner cartridges.

  • Mountain Lion - Red Shadow On Icons

Hi, I have a 2012 11" MacBook Air, running 10.8.1, and some of the icons for apps and some buttons have a red shadow on them. I've had this problem since I upgraded to 10.8 but thought 10.8.1 would fix it, but it didn't. Been searching around and cannot find anyone who has the same problems. I have included an image at (http://an0thr.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/red-color.jpg). I was hoping there was an easy way to fix this problem without a re-install.
    Thanks

You must have installed some software that changes your system control colors.

The images and letters on the screen are shown with a red shadow. The screen has a red set of curvy lines on the upper right hand corner. When I open the browser to use the internet, I get a teal color screen instead of a white screen. I have already tried to take out the battery and left it out for a day. I also checked to see if my power cord was part of the recall and it was not. I do not know what else to try.

Hello  smit16.  I understand you're having some trouble with your volume and mute buttons.
These buttons are controlled by the HP Quick Launch software.  You should reinstall the latest version of this software.  You can download it here.

  • Shadow generation in the PDF Language.

I am working on an application that needs to create PDF files from vector-based imagery.
There appears to be an extension to the language (which may be Mac-specific) that allows
paths to have drop-shadows; however, I can find no discussion of this feature anywhere.
I have checked the PDF reference, the addendums and waded through countless web
pages trying to find more information.
I can create files on the Mac which use the extension through Quartz 2D.  Please forgive
my ignorance in some of these matters, but I believe the relevant data from the PDF file is
the following (much is culled for simple viewing):
    6 0 obj
    << /ProcSet [ /PDF /Text /ImageB /ImageC /ImageI ] /ColorSpace << /Cs2 8 0 R
    /Cs1 7 0 R >> /ExtGState << /Gs1 20 0 R >> /Font << /F1.0 13 0 R >> /XObject
    << /Im2 11 0 R /Im4 16 0 R /Im3 14 0 R /Im5 18 0 R /Im1 9 0 R >> /Properties
    << /Pl1 21 0 R /Pl2 22 0 R >> >>
    endobj
    21 0 obj
    << /Type /PropertyList /Style << /Type /Style /Subtype /Shadow /Offset [ 10.22150
    -17.19072 ] /Radius 7.543859 /ColorSpace 8 0 R /Color [ 1 0 0 1 ] >> >>
    endobj
I am guessing this "/Shadow" and its parameters control a vector-based shadow.
This is clearly not Mac-specific.  Viewers, even on the PC, recognize this and render
    the file appropriately.
Although the example above is condensed, essentiallly it is drawing a filled rectangle
which has a red shadow beneath it.
Can someone give me some information on this feature, or at least point me in the right
direction to using any API to manufacture it?
    Thanks,
    Phil

Thank you for the prompt reply.
So the values for Offset and Radius are communicated to some other object in the file
that renders the shadow from that?  They can be changed textually (yes, I am aware that
isn't recommended), but trivially changing say the "10.22150" to "40.22150" does translate
    the shadow appropriately.
I could post a more complete example; however, I am pretty sure the PDF content operations
are encoded.  This file is the result of a "Save as PDF" from the generic Print dialog in Mac
OS X and I don't think I have detailed control over that process.
It sounds like I need to learn more about the PDF content operators and how to use them
to manufacture something like a shadow.  I didn't realize they were that powerful.  I am
guessing it is doing some sort of filtering with the intensity of the effect being handled through
    "Radius".

  • Red Print in the graphic boxes

I have a Vista OS and a HP 2550 color printer. When I print out my pdf files that have some sort of graphic on them, they print out with a red shadow over the picture. I have just downloaded that lastest version of Adobe and the problem still exist. Is there a fix out there?

thanks so much for your ideas--I tried what you suggest...but after clearing the java cache, and then attempting to launch the software form the laptop, windows XP shuts down to a blue screen and indicates a driver or IRQ error? Also note I can run many other applets on the laptop with no problem...
    This is strange...any other ideas?
I know the applet works because I can launch it from my desktop--also running XP--neither the laptop or the desktop have service pack 2...
    thank you

  • Trim shadow in pathfinder.

Hi guys, I found this great previous discussion http://forums.adobe.com/message/4710326 which is exactly what I need.
It seems that 'Trim' is my friend. Only I select both layers, perform a trim and nothing happens! Clearly I've missed something or done a common fault or setting with my artwork.
Text has been created to outlines, I have tried Object > Expand, but nothing! I would try expand appearance but it is not available.
    Any ideas what I'm missing?
I'm trying to get the red shadow to trim the behind layer (red layer) to print / cut only that part which is showing on the screen. Reason is because this will stick to the material better.

    You are welcome, PF.
As I see it, Larry made he cunning assumption that you might have created the tick marks as a blend and failed to expand it; that would have been another easy procedure preventing you from treating each (apparant) object individually.
Some (newer) smart features replace manual building of artwork, but some of them may prevent you from working freely with the artwork and may even lead to messy/less clean artwork (such as the addition of unwanted and rather elusive extra paths).
    Some are always safe, though.
In the case of tthe tickmarks, you might create one tick mark where you want the first one and then:
    A) Move a copy to wher you want the last one, select both, and create a Blend with the desired number in between, with this there is no need to worry about exact distances; and to work with each tick mark you can just Object>Blend>Expand or just Object>Expand (the latter will give you some questions to ponder over which you do not need in this case), as Larry suggested; or
    B) Effect>Distort&Transform>Transform and insert the number of copies and the distance between their centres; ; and to work with each tick mark you can just Object>Blend>Expand Appearance.
Both may be easier than just Object>Transform>Move a copy and then Ctrl/Cmd+D to repeat until you have the right number.
Often, the right answer is hidden by a small but crucial detail, in what is (not) said or how or what is shown; and sometimes the issue is just recognized.
I for one enjoy such challenges and never see them as wasting time.

  • Strange Redness!

Hello, i just updated to the latest bootcamp and im pretty sure as a result i am getting some text red when it should be blue. This can be on webpages on the log on screen and other places.
I also noticed on the title bar of the window (^^ where it says Apple - Support - Discussions) it has a red shadow which is very annoying and looks kinda strange.
This might be coincidence but when i do a google search the words i search for are are red in the results. the same kinda red everything is changing to.
Anyone have any idea? Maybe a virus or something to do with the update.
    Thanks for any help

  • Compiz Shadows Question

First, thanks in advance to the community for your help.  (And thanks to the Arch Devs!)
Anyway, I am using Gnome and Compiz.  I have the window decorations and such set up the way I like them.  But now a question.  How do I change the color of the window shadows?  They are red/pink right now, as can bee seen from this screenshot:
    http://www.bigpony.com/linuxscreenshots/redshadows.png
Now, whenever I go into either Compiz configurations OR Emerald configurations, my shadow colors are set the way a I want them (a dark black/blue color).  When I boot up, the red shadows are there.  When I go to mess with them, they just disappear.  When I reboot, the red shadows are back.  Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this and how to change the shadows colors?
    Again, thanks in advance.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same problem.  Like right now I have a little orangy-yello glow around my windows.  That's cool -- I set it that way.  But I'll bet you the next time I log out and log in OR reboot, there's a 50/50 chance I'll have no window glow/halo.  Sometimes The halo is a nice CYAN color I didn't set.
The problem (at least for me) is that the halo is configured correctly, but it only shows up sometimes and other times it does not.  Check out my video in posting #3 and see what I'm talking about.
I never had _this_ specific problem, but a lot of times I had upgraded compiz and then some plugin changes its configuration or stops working. Compiz is beta software, so when its development change (and changes a lot), something get broke on the gconf, it happens all the time.
So, even its another problem you are having, you can try fixing it by cleaning up the old config and starting again (of course, considering isn't the plugin itself that is borked).

  • HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni - Colour Alignment Issue

I'm having an issue with the alignment of the different colours with my HP CP1518ni printer. Basically the colours don't really print in the same spot, like the Red(Magenta) printing is never aligned with the Black / Yellow / Blue(Cyan) (so I can have Red text with a Black/Yellow shadow 0.5-1 mm below or Blue text with a red shadow 0.5-1 mm above for example).
Troubleshooting always just gets me to calibrate, but I've calibrated many, many times over many months, and it doesn't help.
Does anyone know of any other solutions? Or should I just buy a new Magenta cartridge and see what happens?
    My cartridges are:
    Magenta - CB543a
    Cyan - CB541a
    Yellow - CB542a
    Black - CB540a

  • My HP Color LaserJet CP1215 has colored text quality problems

My printer was working fine, but in the last month, I have been unable to correct a printing issue, which involves colored text that double prints or is blurry, it looks like it has a shadow mostly any color has a red shadow.  I have replaced all the cartridges, checked to make sure the tape was pulled off all and performed a cleaning, and all tests I could find or had access to.  I am beyond frustrated and am ready to throw it out the window.  Does anyone have any solutions?

Don't quit keep with it, I almost quit because I was getting mad.  They kept harping on changing paper, changing paper.  My paper had sat in it for some time in a room where temperature changes was up and down.  The paper could have dried out to much or may have gotten moisture in it from the temperature changes.  I know it sounds crazy but change the paper with fresh paper along with calibrating it 3 or 4 times and see if you get different results.

  • Faulty, noisy grey prints from LR 2.6 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, HP B9180

I've been using Lightroom for about a year, and recently retired my old Windows XP 32-bit system and built a brand new AMD Quad-core Windows 7 64-bit PC. The C: drive is a brand new Kingston V+ SSD 128GB, supplemented by a 1TB SATA3 WD Caviar Black D: drive. My LR Catalog resides on the SSD C: drive (carried over from the old system), though my photo storage is on a LaCie 1TB eSATA disk. I currently have 4GB of DDR3 high-quality RAM (I do plan to add more) and run a largely trouble-free HP Photosmart Pro B9180 printer via USB 2.0 cable. My catalog and photos are all nicely intact onscreen, but I have the following problem when I use the Print Module:
Prints from Lightroom 2.6 64-bit for Win 7 (a fresh install) come out of the printer as large fields of grey noise (!) They are quite difficult to describe, but they are absolutely not a simple profile problem in any way that I can imagine. That is, the entire printed photo is grey noise (actually quite a bit of chroma noise as well on close viewing) but perfectly white borders if the print is set up for borders . If the photo has any very white highlight or very dark/black shadow areas, those portions do appear in the print as white highlights or red shadows, respectively. Other than those extreme highlight and shadow areas, the print is absolutely unrecognizable, appearing as only greyish chroma noise. ????
This problem is true for all of the follwing situations:
Whether the source file is .JPG or Canon RAW
Whether I print on Glossy Advanced or Plain Paper
Whether I print in Best, Normal, or FastDraft mode (from the printer driver)
Whether I try Application Managed  Color, Printer Managed Color, or no color management at all
The one exception to this problem occurs only when I select the Draft Mode Printing checkbox in the LR Print Module and go on to print in draft mode. In this case only, I can get a recognizable print (a typical draft quality print is made without any other problems).
I do not have problems printing from Open Office, Firefox, or even full photo-output prints from Canon Digital Photo Professional of the same image files (without LR adjustments, naturally), nor did I have this problem printing in LR 2 32-bit on my old XP system (It may have been version 2.5 the last print I made, however).
I have already perfomed a "repair-install" of a freshly downloaded LR 2.6 64-bit installer, yet the problem remains. I have not yet tried to completely remove LR before reinstalling. I have not yet reinstalled my HP 64-bit printer drivers, as the problem was limited to Lightroom.  Happy to post images if helpful (I'm new here, I'll have to check the rules and instructions).
Have not found anyone else with this problem in my searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is extremely disruptive to my workflow and revenue stream
    Camron
EDIT: Photo of comparison prints: Canon DPP on left, LR 2.6 on right (same image file)

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have tried each idea in the order suggested. Unfortunately I have not yet solved the problem.  In some circumstances, with certain paper profiles and no other color management in place, I get faulty prints but they have large areas of solid color in areas where there is a large amounts of color saturation in the original image. The faulty image below is printed to plain letter-sized paper ar Normal Quality. One clarification I wish to make is that my HP printer driver was not specifically a 64-bit driver, but rather 32-bit/64-bit driver compatable for Win 7.
I may try completely uninstalling LR before reinstalling, instead of a "repair-install" but I am still open to other suggestions.
