Red static, flashing screen on Apple TV. Brand new

I have three TV's in my house and the Apple TV is not working on any of them. The only results I get is on one TV, which is a red, static flashing screen vaguely displaying the setup screen. I have tried 5 different cables and a converter box, still with no results. I have taken the Apple TV to work where I hooked it up to a TV, my computer monitor, tested all 5 cables and it works fine. All my TV's at home have multiple HDMI ports and it doesn't work with any one of them.
I have also done the reset through ITunes, tried again with no results. Brought it back to work and it still works there. The TV's in my home are about 7 years old, could they be out of date already?! This is why I don't try to keep up to date with electronics. As soon as you buy something it it's already out of date. It's like buying a car ... depreciates $3000 as soon as it leaves the lot. Products are manufactured, released and the new version has already been built just waiting around for 6 months to be released. I hate this because I now have a paperweight that can't be returned because my wife purchased it through Groupon and they have a 14 day return policy which has lapsed.
cables I've tried
Amazon cable with Ethernet
1.3
1.4B
Not sure what the other 2 are
Does anyone want to buy a paperweight?

If its working with the monitor(s) at work then the issue lies with your TVs at home. It's hard to say what exactly, I have an ATV working just fine on a 8 year old TV so I don't think it's purely age that's the factor.

The touch screen on my nearly brand new Pavillion lap top running windows 8 no longer works.  Cant use calibration tools as there's no response to touch.  No option in control panal to turn on or off touch capability.  I have no computer background so cant really get to technical.  Is something simple turned on or off located in some mysterious place?  F key or something?   Bad machine?  Thanks for any input.  Sarah

I found the driver at the above link.  I installed the driver, disabled my graphics card and rebooted.  The touchscreen worked.  Then I enabled the graphics card.  So far so good.  Hope I dont have to do this routine too often.

  • BLUE SCREEN ERROR FOR A BRAND NEW DELL STUDIO

    Hi There,
I Just bought a brand new Dell Studio laptop from Best Buy and the first login.. was trying to register my Mcfee AV on it and started dumping the physical memory with blue scree.. So sad.
I had Win7 on it. What could be the issue? Can someone help here?
I have another thing to know, I want to replace this one with a diff. Studio laptop which is available in best buy, I want to avoid the 15% restocking fee. The one I am thinking to replace it with is of light brown color in the Dell laptop link on best buy site on page 2 and this one is a bit costlier than the one I am using it.... Can I replace this one without any restocking non-sense as the current one keeps throwing with blue screen error. Although it doesnt happen everytime i use it but it does come up with blue screen every now and then...
Any suggestion would be appreciated. The Laptop which I currently have is not listed in the Best Buy site now, was there till last week. Dell Studio, i3 processor with 500GB HD & 4 GB RAM.
    Thanks,
    -Rj

You're over thinking this! If you're getting an error of this type and you didn't do anything to the machine besides install McAfee, then bring it to your nearest BestBuy to have Geeksquad look at it or have it returned. You're within the 30 days, right?
There is no restocking fee for defective items. I'm not sure if yours is defective, but speak to the store, I'm sure you will be pleased. Point is, do it now, before more time passes.

  • Kernel Panic / Blue screen of death on brand new MacBookPro 2.6 GHZ

I thought it was quite normal to get one system crash with a brand new computer (MacBook Pro 2.6GHZ, OS 10.5.1 pre-installed, everything updated) , so I wasn't too worried when it occured yesterday. But now it happened again...
    1. I use Mail and Web browser.
    2. The wireless internet connection goes down. (The connection icon indicates that everything works, but no application can reach out).
    3. The system crashes, after a short while.
The computer is brand new. No Haxies installed. (Quicksilver, is an application, not a haxie, right?)
What is installed: iWork, iLife, DevonThink, MSoffice, Quicksilver, Adium, Adobe CS3, EndNote X1.
Does your new MacBook Pro crash as well?

The system crashed again. Does this look familiar to anyone? Does this look like a hardware or a software problem?

  • Grey screen with apple logo after new HDD install

I have a mid 2010 iMac A1312, this was given to me recently with the knowledge of its bad HDD, so I bought a new HDD. I followed step by step instructions on how to replace a Hard drive and I did. I switched the computer on and inserted my Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install disk and clicked the icon. It is now at a light grey screen with a dark Apple logo. I have waited about ten minutes and restarted the machine. Ive tried all variances of startup holding down c, option, command r and so forth. Currently I am going to give it a good long wait of 20 minutes or so  and see if I was just being impatient and not allowing the install software chance to start up. But in the mean time... any suggestions? I have read I need the original disks that came with the computer from factory to get a new HDD going. Is this true? thank you for your time!

it has now been 30 minutes and no change. I still have the grey screen with apple logo. please help

  • Trying to connect apple tv brand new and the screen says 'activating' setting date and time indefinately

just trying to connect to apple tv for the first time and the screen just stays at 'activating' setting time and date and wont let me sign in to itunes sharing until the date and time thing is fulfilled.  any thoughts on troubleshooting this issue?  thanks

Hi I had same problems and couldn't understand most of the solutions on offer as I'm a bit of a Luddite. The problem seems to be getting ATV to register your network time and date details following the upgrade of software. I use a wireless connection at home and my firewall was blocking the ATV from obtaining this information. Instead of changing router settings, firmware etc (which is beyond me) I solved it this way:
    1. Rather than use my existing wireless connection I connected the ATV to my iPhone personal hotspot (iPhone has 3G connection). It may be another network could also be effective.
    2. ATV connected via the iPhone no problem apparently got the network time and date settings ok.
    3. The previous ATV functionality was restored.
    3. I then disconnected from my iPhone hotspot and re-connected to my main wireless connection. All worked fine.
It seems what you need to do is side-step the router firewall problem. Hope it works for others.

  • New Apple user, brand new MBP, and several (simple) issues:

    1.  One of the first things I did was change the "natural" scrolling to normal scrolling on the trackpad.  Then I found it wasn't as responsive as expected - nor as responsive as my friend's Macbook Air - so I changed it back to "natural" scrolling, and got used to that.  But whenever I turn off/reboot my machine, the settings revert to the old way of scrolling.  Can anyone suggest a fix for this?  The same thing seems to happen with the settings for external mice.
    2.  A week into ownership, and I've already got a dark splotch on the screen, dead center.  Have always been a ThinkPad guy, and have never had a problem with them before.  There wasn't any damage, so I'm a little frustrated, but that's fine, these things happen.  I'm heading over to the Apple store to advise on my options (other than a return), and I'm wondering what to expect.  I'm hesitant to do a swap because I don't want to hand over a machine with all my personal information/passwords on it, plus I already upgraded the RAM.  Is there a (simple) way to wipe the HDD clean and start back from scratch?
    Thank you!

When you wrote that the trackpad "wasn't as responsive as expected," did you mean that the screen pointer didn't move as quickly or as far for the same Trackpad swipe as before?
If so, you can change the trackpad's responsiveness - regardless of whether you're using "natural" or (umm) unnatural scrolling - by just changing the following setting on your Mac: go to
System Preferences > Trackpad settings > Point & Click
and go to the horizontal slider called "Tracking Speed."
If you set the Tracking Speed slider to "Slow" then sliding your finger across the Trackpad will result in the screen pointer moving very slowly across part of the screen. In contrast, with the Tracking Speed slider set to "Fast" the same movement on the Trackpad will make the screen's pointer fly across the screen in no time.
Adjusting the tracking speed also changes the horizontal and vertical scrolling speeds.
The only odd aspect to this, is that changing the scrolling direction shouldn't change the Tracking Speed, unless you accidentally brushed against the Tracking Speed slider while you were changing the scrolling direction.
(Note! I'm using a desktop Mac with an Apple bluetooth trackpad, so my suggestion may not be completely accurate.)

  • Touch Screen not working on Brand new iPhone 5...why?

I bought my iPhone 5 yesterday from Meteor. I had a party to go to last night so I just left the phone to charge and backed up my ld one to iTunes. This morning I plugged the 5 into laptop to start transferring data across. Everything was ok, add to re-load apps. etc. but the norm. This afternoon I went to open the phone and the touch screen just doesnt work. I've tried the re-set - holding Home and the Power button a hundred times now, no joy. I've plugged it back into i Tunes, restored it again, no joy.
My head is melted because the guy in shop was trying to put me off it in case of any issues having to send the phone to Apple but I've had the iPhone for years and have had no problems with 3GS, 4, 4s, so I was eager to stay with it. PLease tell me this is a software fix.....please.

    take the phone back,

  • Knick/Scratch on Screen!!! Brand new MBP replacement..help!

My First MBP (Late 2008) had a Buzzing Fan.... Apple "Couldnt" fix, had to mail back to get a replacement.
    Took 2 weeks.
Now replacement just got here today. Perfect, quitet, Even Lid, Screen is lit properly, No dead Pixels, BUT there is a small knick/scratch in the glass on the left side. It looks like this ~ same size and all, but vertical.
You can Feel the scratch... What DO I do? I cannot go without a computer again by sending this back. I cannot afford to take the chance on a replacement when everything else is right. And I cannot live with a scratch in a 2500$ computer screen.
People with screen issues.... can they just swap out the screen? Is it that easy? Or do I need a new computer... again. Im about to ask for my money back.

stinks, i know how you feel.
sorry, don't know what to tell you.

I have a first generation iphone that all the sudden would not respond to any touch on the home screen, but would respond to powering off. It would also respond to the ipod play menu on the lock screen. Because my iphone is out of warranty I descide to get the 3g iphone and just my luck as soon as I go to play with my new toy it does not respond and when it does respond it does what it wants to. If i push settings it wants notes. I have to slide my finger up and to the right in the middle of the screen in order to turn the thing off. Hopefully my luck changes to good when I try to get them replaced.

  • Old Apple Monitor, Brand New Mac Pro

I just bought a new 8-core Mac Pro but my old Apple 17" CRT won't connect to it. I was planning to use the DVI connector (just like I did on my old G4), but it seems that the connections on the new video card have gotten smaller.
My new Mac has the ATI 1900XT video card.
Is there an adapter I can buy from old DVI to new DVI? Please help, I've been itching to play with my new Mac!
I am planning on getting a new Apple LCD monitor, but I can't afford it at the moment (because of the new Mac Pro).

  • A scratch has appeared on my inside screen. It is brand new, and I haven't even used it much, let alone drop it. What do I do?

Do I get support for this?

I got it in Montreal at the Apple store. I didn't bother to  open the packaging there, since it was gift for my dad. When I opened  it the day before, I found the scratch. There's no apple store where I stay (which happens to be Goa, India) so the only way for me was the Service Centre. I handed it to them today, and  they reckon it should be replaced since I registered the ipod online only yesterday, which is good proof I couldn't have accidentally done it myself.
I guess  Ihave to keep my fingers crossed till then.

  • Does Apple Give BRAND NEW iPods when you take it in for a replacement or do they give a refurbished one??

Hey there we'll I went into the apple store to get a replacement and well this new iPod is extremely laggy!!! Did they give me a refurbished one ? Or a new one? Because I doubt that. SHOULD I GO BACK TO APPLE AND GET ANOTHER ONE? I Bearly got replacement TWO Days Ago. And my ipod is the 5th generation iPod touch . Helppppp I'm starting to get bad feelings from apple.. :(( and it lags the most when I type and on the safari

The replacment will only be a new iPod if a refurbished one is not available.
