Red stop symbol next to songs

I added new music to my itunes and then i plugged my Iphone in. I let it sync and i looked at phone and all my songs even old ones had a red stop button next to it. also it said that my phone was disconnected and then when it was syncing the last step it never went past 2 songs before it just stopped syncing. can anyone help?

I'm having the same problem. It's really random songs, too, at least for me. Half the songs on a given album will sync with no problem, but the other half will show up with the red circle and square next to them. Not sure if this is an iOS bug, iTunes bug, or what...whatever it is, it's really frustrating.

I've just connected the ipod to my computer and checked the music on the iPod. The album that I am having trouble with shows an exclamation symbol next to it. I've tried deleting the album from iTunes and re downloading it then syncing but it doesn't appear to affect the information shown the iPod. The album neither deletes nor updates.

  • Dashed circle symbol next to songs.

I put 4 albums on my computer from Google Play. Added them to ITunes and then synced with IPod Touch. 2 albums transferred no problem, other 2 show up with dashed circle symbol next to the songs and they aren't really on my IPod. I accidentally deleted one of the transferred songs and when I put it back in, it now has a dashed circle next to it and won't play. I have rebooted both computer and IPod.Any suggestions?

OK, just got off with Apple Support. One of the songs I added to ITunes somehow corrupted during the add. After that, no more songs will download. I had to delete all songs off my IPod and then readd them. Downloads all working now with no problems.
A BIG THANKS TO APPLE SUPPORT!

  • HT201272 What is it with songs that are not from the itunes store, but are coming from cd's and other download sources that all of a sudden do not play on my iphone and have a red stop button in a red round circle around them, behind the title?

Songs that I have had previously downloaded from various other sources, but NOW ALL of a sudden they DO NOT PLAY on my IPHONE and DISPLAY a RED STOP BUTTON in a red round circle next to the title.  Everytime I click on it it DOESNT play.   What happen???? How can i get them to play.,   Why should i have to pay for the songs, and why are they in the ITUNES store and not in my regular playlist.

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

Please let me know how things are going.

I have more than one copy of the same song in my iTunes. Some have the icloud symbol next to them and some do not. I need to clean this up but I am afraid to delete the songs for fear I will lose them. Please help! On top of that my Mac keeps telling me my start up disc is full and I am deleting stuff like crazy!

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums
It won't be a problem if you delete your extra copies.
I don't download very much to my tv, I do sometimes if I'm in bed but usually I do it from itunes. However if you have not fully downloaded something to the tv it is possible to start the download from itunes as well, you have likely activated 'check for downloads fin itunes in some way, could be by opening itunes, selecting 'check or downloads' from the advanced menu or that you simply have automatically check for downloads set in your prefs and it has checked coincidentally.

Those songs aren't on your iPhone, they are in iCloud.

  • ITunes next/previous song stopped working

Just upgraded to 7.4.2 earlier tonight to support my new Nano.
When I double-click a song to start it playing, it plays fine, but if I hit "next" or "previous", the song just stops.
When a song is not playing, the next and previous buttons are grayed out.
I used to be able to just hit play and hit next and previous to move around the songs in my library, but with the upgrade this seems to have stopped working. I've checked for new updates several times, rebooted, everything, and nothing seems to help.

Are the little checkboxes to the left of name ticked? If not iTunes will not advance to the next track as iTunes skips unchecked tracks.
To check all, press ctrl & click in one of the little boxes or uses select all, then right click in the selection and choose check all.

  • Problems w/ continuous play & next/prev. song controls

i am having large issues with the next and previous song controls. the controls in the top left corner to the right and to the left of the play/pause button only stop the current playing song when pressed, and when i press the left/right arrow keys on my computer keyboard to move to the next song, the current playing song also stops instead of working correctly.
to make matters worse, when a song in my library finishes playing, it does not go to the next song and begin play like it should, it only stops the music much like what happens when you try to manually go to the next song. i cant get any continuous playback of multiple songs and cant swith from song to song without double clicking with a mouse. can anyone fix this problem?

No problems ... I have the exact parallel problem with remembering the Mac key combo for this one.

  • How do I get rid of the "stop sign" next to some of my music and enable them to play?

I just downloaded songs to my iphone and now all the new songs and some old ones have the stop sign next to them. How can I either turn off iCloud (which is what I'm assuming is the problem) or just become able to play the songs. Whenever I try to play them, they get skipped over.

hey i had this problem and it really annoyed me, i decided to play about and i have sorted it out, for now anyway lol.
late reply but i literally just sorted the problem out for my phone.
what i did i connected my phone to my pc, went on itunes then into my phone.
where there is the info about your device and you can select the tick box options to sync automatically, manually ect there is an option that says 'Convert higher bit rate to ??? kbs AAC' i ticked that box and i used 256 kbs for better quality songs but any of the 3 options should work. itunes then converts all your songs then they should work.
    well mine did anyway
    hope this helps

    Hello Any one? Apple?
Ah forget it... it been two weeks and nothing.
The product wasn't even designed to last for 2 years, and mine is trash after less than one.
I will NEVER buy another song from the itunes store or another iPod. or even another Mac product for that matter.

  • IPhone stops playing Protected AAC songs

My iPhone stops playing songs in the middle.  All the songs that stop are Protected AAC songs-old purchases.  It happened on a 3G, and now on a new 4GS.  They play fine on my computer.  Sometimes it skips to the next song automatically, sometimes you can skip manually, occasionally it loses its way entirely.  It's been happening for the last few months, but not too often in my library.  It is perfectly repeatable for each song, down to the second it stops, but the timing varies by the song.

I actually have a song that plays back perfectly in iTunes. It also plays back fine when selecting the song on the iPhone through iTunes. However, when disconnecting the iPhone and playing it back just through the iPhone the song will distort after 16-17 seconds and skip to the next song. This doesn't happen however if I manullay skip the first 17 seconds of the song. It's a strange circumstance. I just decided to delete the song all together from my iPhone.

    Hi jenwood2!
It seems like the best way to do this would be to make a playlist from just the one song that you want listen to while falling asleep. Our iPad User Guide explains exactly how to do this:
    manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
And I have echoed the relevant information here:
Create a playlist: View Playlists, tap New near the top of the screen, then enter and save a name. Select songs and videos to include, then tap Done.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Ticks next to songs

I'm sorry if this is really stupid, but I'm quite new to using iTunes to organize my music.
Can someone please tell me what are the ticks next to songs and how to use these?

They mean the song will be included in the specified action. For example, only songs with a checkmark are imported when you click Import. Songs without checkmarks are ignored by the iTunes Genius and don't play in playlists. If the song is without checkmark, it will only play when specifically selected by you. If you have an iPhone/iPod, you can elect to have only checked songs synced. This isn't current, but the symbols are the same in iTunes 9: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/8.0/en/symbols.html
To check/uncheck all boxes on a PC with one click, hold down the Control(ctrl) key and click on one of the checkboxes with the mouse.
To check/uncheck all boxes on a Mac with one click, hold down the Command (cmd) key and click on one of the checkboxes with the mouse.

  • Check marks next to songs

Hi, I searched for an answer, but was not able to find anything. I can do many things with itunes, but one thing I can not figure out is how to stop check marks from being applied to next to songs. I do not want a check mark placed next to a song unless I physically check it myself.
Can anyone tell me how to stop the automatic checking of selections in order for me to do it completely by myself, manually?
    I appreciate any help..thanks.

Say you were playing all of your songs on iTunes, and you didn't want to listen to one. When you uncheck it, it skips over that song and immediately plays the next "checked" song.
    Make sense?
