Red where clip audio should display. clips dont play.

I just reopened my fcp project only to find that it will no longer play. The music plays, but the clips apear blank with a thick red line underneath and from the clip selection menu they have yellow triangles with exclamation points in them by each clip. Any ideas? thanks

Where do the clips reside? Could they be on a disk that is offline?
Control-click on one of the clips in the browser and choose "Revel in Finder". What do you see? Post a screenshot.

  • Audio and video files dont play on wiki only a qicktime icon with a question mark appears

I have many users on my server who upload podcasts, but the problem is that the audio file they upload doesnt always play. Only a quicktime icon with a question mark appears. What is also very strange is when you refresh the page usually the file will play and it will work on a Mac but then sometimes not on a PC, and the files always play without a problem on iPads and iPhones.
The icon looks something like this. PLEASE HELP!

The same thing happened to me last night, except for with video.  Playing videos used to work fine on all operating systems.  Now it will work on Windows and iPhone/iPad but only some videos work on my Macs.  After searching for hours here is what I found:
    1. Go to Safari preferences, Security Tab and uncheck "Enable Plug-ins".  When I tried to play video after doing this the Quicktime question mark went away but the video didn't play, it just turned into background color and I can't even right click on it.
    2. Run Safari in 32-bit mode.  Locate the Safari file in your Applications folder.  Right click it and click Get Info.  Check the "Run in 32-bit Mode" box.  Restart safari.  This did nothing for me.
    3. Try a different web browser.  I tried Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera.  They all do the same thing.
    4. As for codecs, I updated then reinstalled Flash, DivX and Flip4Mac.  Still doesn't work on Macs.
I know it's not a problem with the server because it works on Windows and mobile devices.  Another weird thing is certain .mp4 videos work fine but some won't.  I re-uploaded them and made sure the video worked on the server and the file is fine.  All regular websites work fine: Youtube, Apple, etc.
My only guess, since this suddenly happened on all my Macs, is that there was some update that caused this.  All help is appreciated.

  • Audio Waveforms (On Certain Clips Only) Not Displaying

Long time forum-lurker, first time poster.
Here's the situation: The nighttime assistant editor created a sequence of B-roll clips for an editor. On both the editor's and the assistant editor's computer, the audio waveforms for these clips are not displaying correctly. Specifically, the symptoms (on both computers) are:
    - Waveforms do not appear in timeline unless zoomed in to maximum or second-to-maximum zoom. When zoomed out farther than that, the "X"es appear.
    - When viewing the clip in the viewer's audio tab, either by double-clicking the sequence clip or match-framing from the sequence, the waveforms do not appear at all until I zoom in to near maximum level. When zooming out after that, the remnants of the zoomed-in waveforms remain on the screen.
    - The waveforms of other clips display correctly.
I have tried deleting the waveform cache on both computers, changing the location of the waveform cache and restarting, and deleting the preferences on the editor's computer. I have not tried recreating the sequence from the original clips because the daytime assistant editor has more sequences to create and needs to use her computer.
If anyone can help me, that would be great.
    Here are the specs:
Assistant Editor's Computer: eMac running Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 and Mac OS 10.4.something (I haven't gotten a chance to run software update).
Editor's Computer: Dual Processor Power Mac G5 running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and Mac OS 10.4.8.
Both computers are sharing the same media which is located on our SAN. The Editor's computer (along with two other G5-based editing systems) is connected via FibreChannel. The Assistant Editor's computer (along with a whole bunch of other computers) is connected through our server, which serves the SAN drives as network volumes. Assistant editors create sequences on the eMac and upload the project file to the server, where they are available for the editors to download.
Power Mac G5 and eMac   Mac OS X (10.4)   SAN: Xserve RAID, CommandSoft FibreJet (not Xsan). Server: Xserve (Intel model)

Don't know what's going on, but tell us the format of
    the audio.
It's the audio track from a video clip. All video on this project is DV NTSC. The audio is 48.0 Khz, 16 bit, 2 mono channels.
    Also, try copying
one audio clip to a local drive and see if the
    problem persists.
Copied one of the offending clips onto the desktop. Dragged it into the project. Opened it in the viewer and hit the Audio tab. Whaddya know, the waveform appeared.
I cut a chunk of it into the sequence that is full of clips whose waveforms don't work and turned on "show audio waveforms". Waited for a long time and I still just got the Xes unless I zoomed in really close to the new sequence clip.
But then I cut a chunk of the newly copied clip into a brand new sequence, turned on audio waveforms in the timeline, and they showed up.
I don't know if any of this will help to solve my problem, but hopefully it will give someone an idea. I've got an editor who says he's used to editing from waveforms and needs the ability to see them. (Unfortunately, copying media to local drives is not a viable workaround. The media must stay on the SAN.)

I have been having display issues for a few months and can not get it fixed.  Where the screen should be displaying black the color red is being displayed. My system info is:

When I connect the laptop to a external monitor dont have this issue.
I downloaded the Radeon file to detect the proper graphics drive and it confirmed that the latest driver is installed.
Can anyone please suggest a way to fix this issue please?
    Thank you

    Hi @JereJK1960
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I saw your post regarding the problem with the red where it should be black. Since, this doesn't show up on an external monitor we know it is not a problem with your video card or graphics driver as it would show up on the external monitor. This is a hardware issue with the display screen or the connectors to the display. Give us a call regarding repair options. • How do you move the point where an audio clip attaches to a video clip?

I'm talking about the little carrot that sticks from one clip to another to indicate the point where the cips are syncronized. How do you move their position? Thank you!
    Eric

    The manual says ...
Adjust the connection point of a connected clip
By default, connected clips and storylines are connected to the primary storyline at their first frame, but you can move the“connection point” of a connected clip or storyline. This is useful when you want to connect a specific frame or audiosample in the connected clip or storyline with a specific frame or audio sample in the primary storyline.
Hold down the Command and Option keys, and click the connected clip (or the gray border of the storyline) at thepoint where you want to position the connection point.
The connection point is moved to the point where you clicked.
For other things ... If you want to move the audio clip in relation to the video clip just click on it and drag it to the left or right.  This is when your audio clip is a separate clip from your video clip.  If you want to move the audio that is part of a video clip, you first have to select that clip then choose Clip/Break Apart Clip Items then do one of the things listed above.  Best wishes.

  • How To display clip info (camera name / audio wave)

I have a multi-layer stream I am building.  I would like to include the Camera Name and Audio Wave displayed in the final rendering.  Is this possible?  As a baseline, I have already used the Inspector to assign values to the Camera Name and Camera Angle.  These are the values I would like to have included in my final product.

  • Audio dropout one clip only

I created a movie in iMovie 6.0.3 (project size approx. 3GB) and shared it with iDVD to burn a DVD. Very little extra added in iDVD for Theme, etc. so it should have been well within size limits of standard DVD-R. (I have successfully burned DVDs in iDVD for similar projects with the same brand of DVD-R media previously with no problems). The movie played with no audio loss in iMovie and on the iDVD preview.
I do have music running under the clips, and the only difference on the clip with audio loss on the DVD is that I had to extract the audio from the clip in iMovie to make an edit work.
On that clip of the movie when viewed in iMovie's timeline view I have my video visible on the top line with my extracted audio (from the video clip)on the middle line and my music on the bottom line.
When I burned the DVD and tried to play it back on my TV the audio was fine until the last clip of the movie -- where there was no sound at all. I tried importing from the Media pane in iDVD rather than sharing from iMovie with the same bad result after burning the DVD.
I have checked the forum, and while there are many similar issues no one seemed to have this exact problem. I did print out the linked article re: Updating iDVD to 6.0.1( I currently have version 6.0.3) and deleting encoded assets (I had plenty of space available on my hard drive) -- it didn't seem to apply to my problem, if I'm understanding those two issues.
I will try the Disk Utility fix, but I'm trying to make a deadline and have never created a DVD that way before.
Any ideas how to burn the DVD -- preferably with the iDVD theme and button menu if possible, but most importantly with the least loss of video and sound quality.

Thank you for the helpful response. I was able to deliver the DVD on time with a workaround.
Once that was done, I tried playing the DVDs I created originally on my friend's DVD player and they played perfectly!!!
Any suggestions out there -- other than I need a new DVD player
is there any way to confirm a DVD burned in iDVD will play on the majority of DVD players before I send it out as a finished project?

  • Close Captions causes audio to be clipped

I'm noticing that sometimes Captivate clips some of the audio as soon as you add closed captions to a series of slides?  If so, should I deal with that?
To better illustrate my point, here are the steps to repeat:
Configure three slides that are related through motion, actions, and stuff, but the audio should flow across all slides.  Let's say that this audio is 10 seconds and it should be distributed across the three slides.
Record the 10-second audio on the first slide.
Export the audio to a file
Adjust the slide timing of the first slide to, say, 3 seconds.
Adjust the slide timing of the second slide to, say, 1 second (for a mouse click that occurs in the middle of the sentence of the narrator talking)
Adjust the slide timing of the last slide to, 6 or more seconds to accommodate the remaing narration (and to prevent the remaining narration from flowing into the a forth slide)
Import the audio to the first slide
Choose the third option (Retain current slide duration and distribute the audio files over several slides) when importing the audio file, so that the audio is spliced appropriately between the slides.
Select the first of  the three slides
    File > Preview > Next 5 slides
    Audio sounds correct.
    Add CC text.
    File > Preview > Next 5 slides.
Audio is clipped in fits and starts through the three slides that now have CC in them.
The reason I export the audio instead of just dragging the "recording##.wav" file from the library to the first slide, is because as soon as I do that, the original 10-second audio is irreparably spliced into "(Clip)" sections and the original is lost. (If I knew where all the "Recording**.wav" files were stored, I might not need to do the export.
Anyway, I don't understand why adding closed captions should effect the audio like this.  Maybe since you all have used Captivate more than I have, you might have had some experience with this and a recommendation for me.  I even tried something as simple as adding a single letter "a" as the closed caption text to the first slide after the audio import and it still clipped.
    I'm using Captivate 7.0.1.237

I posted a very small project with a cptx and an audio file, also published in various ways.
    See: http://davesamuels.com/share/captivate
    You will find:
    ·         Bug_AudioClippedByCC.htm
Click on this to play the .swf directly
    ·         Bug_AudioClippedByCC.pdf
    Encapsulated in a PDF
    ·         Bug_AudioClippedByCC/index.html
Navigate to the folder and it should automatically start the index.html
    ·         Bug_AudioClippedByCC.zip
Contains all the above files/folders.  It gives you the editable .cptx file.
    To reproduce the problem…
    1.  Press F10 to listen to the two slides.  You might notice a slight hiccup,
"It's always a good idea to check for error(hiccup)s in the problems tab…"
    2.  In the timeline pane, in the Slide Notes tab, uncheck the slide note/caption checkbox
    3.  Press F10 to listen to the two slides.  This time, there won't be a hiccup.
Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
I get the same results no matter how I review the project.  Preview, Published, HTML 5, Web, etc.

  • How to merge audio in a clip during video editing in iMovie?

    How and tnxs for reading.
    Here the question:
I have a video file which has a bad audio R track and a good audio L one. I would like to edit the video, standard operations like cut, merge, etc...
However I would like to take the audio R track out. Since I do not see any available feature for this I exported the audio track to another audio software and did the operation there. After that I imported the audio L track only in my iMovie (v 10) project, aligned to the clip, I deleted the original audio from the clip, and now I have a perfect project with the original clip with a good audio track.
However, since I would like to work now on the project itself, it'd be great to merge the audio (which is now separated) to the clip, in order to maintain the proper audio with the clip during my cut/paste/etc operations. Is there any special feature I can use for this?
If not, I know I can export the project to a new video file and then open a new iMovie project where I can import the new video file and start again from it, but I am wondering if there is an easier way since in my opinion I had to do already to much work for an easy op like this which would have been fixed easily with the old versions of iMovie.
    Tnxs.

    Thanks for your reply!
While your answer is helpful, it's not a desired solution for me because the comp track is one channel of a multi-channel recording (two different mics).  I don't want to drag a new take into the comp track because the comp track is grouped with other comp tracks for editing purposes, and I don't want to disturb the editing I've already done.
It seems like I "should" be able to select a region in the arrange window and "re-link" the file to any other file in the audio bin (thereby replacing the file with the other).  After years of working in graphic layout programs, such as Adobe InDesign, I'm expecting this sort of feature to exist already.  I'm pretty sure I've seen it before... but I've used Cubase, Digital Performer, Studio One and Pro Tools, and I'm not sure where I saw it.
Have I described what I'm looking for clearly?  I'm not sure it's coming across in what I've written.  Can Logic do this?

  • No Audio on Certain Clips iMovie 11

I imported all my clips from my new Panasonic GH-2. Many of them showed volume in the audio detail below the clips but failed to play.
Strangely this happened only to clips where I used an external microphone after part of the day of shooting. Earlier in the day the audio clips play from either camera mic or external mic. This is on my Quad Core running 10.6.8 OS.
I can delete and reimport the clips and still they fail.
I deleted iMovie and reinstalled and even at version 9.0 the same clips fail. Even though they show levels in the audio area.
Here is what is super strange!: I imported a couple of the repeated failing clips into my MacBookPro and they play fine. I have 10.7 Lion OS.
I prefer to edit the video on my Quad core with the 30" cinema display and would like to find a reason for this.
Please HELP I need to finish this project.

    Pumex, welcome to the forum.
This is one of those problems that doesn't appear to have a simple solution.  However, it may be simple, but just not obvious.  It could be that the channels that don't have sound have weaker signals.  I would update the sound device driver for starters.  This is a shot in the dark.  Sometimes in diagnosing a problem that is all we can do.  Let us know if this helps or not.

  • Clipped audio woes...

I have to make some CDs from audio recorded by others. The audio was recorded as MP3 files on Sansa Sandisk recorders. Virtually EVERY SINGLE ONE of the 14 recordings that were made were seriously overdriven and therefore have a ton of clipping.
Using guidance on this forum and other Adobe Help stuff, I ran the hard-limiting and Clip Restoration filters on a clip. It helped a LOT, but there is still a very big amount of static (clicks due to clipping) on the file.
I've spent the last couple of days working on 1 60+ minute recording, going in at the hundredths of a second level and, in some cases, physically editing individual sample points to remove the inverse spike that results from the clipping and causes the "click" when played. Needless to say, this takes a while and isn't (sadly) foolproof anyway. I've only gotten some 35 minutes through the recording and I'm getting brain-fried AND doubt that I can "fix" all the recordings in any resembling a reasonable time frame.
    So... does anyone have any suggestions of steps I haven't mentioned already that might speed up the process?!?! {Killing the idiots who set the recording levels in the first place isn't an option nor would it fix the files anyway... drat!}
I'm not expecting miracles, though y'all have pulled some off for me before, but will HAPPILY read any suggestions!
    Thanks in advance!!

David, I know that you didn't say that
    I
said that, but I'll defend myself anyway and say that I never said anything remotely like it. After this experience, I think I can safely say that I never WILL! ;^O
ryclark - Yes, I did try click removal (though why you say I should use it in the Spectral View is confusing to me... the clicks are distorted parts of the waveforms and aren't limited to the high frequency range). Anyway, what I was doing was selecting a very small section of the wave and trying Automatic Click Removal (usually pretty effective) often followed with Click & Pop Eliminator (where I'd Autofind Levels for the selection) and then sometimes still had to go down to VERY small segments of the wave to either AutoFix (which is really just Fix One Click from C&P Eliminator) and/or manually adjust sample points to remove the glitch. Bottom line... VERY time consuming!!
    Thanks for BOTH comments, gentlemen!!

  • How do I use just the audio from a clip in imovie? No picture, no video, just audio!

I want to put the audio from a clip at the end of the video. No video, just black screen

It will require a bit of a workaround. But it can be done. If you enable Advanced Tools under the iMovie Preferences (Go to the iMovie Menu > Preferences). Enable Advanced Tools by clicking the checkbox.
Now create  a title with a black background by dragging at title to the end of the video on the Project timeline. Once the title is there, delete all the text on the title. Now drag that black background directly dead center onto the video clip just before the end where you want to 'blot out' the video and just have audio. When you release the mouse, you will be shown a pop-up menu with a bunch of different options including one titled cut-away. Choose this option. What will happen is the video will cut to the black video background you dragged on top of the video clip. You can set the duration by dragging the left and right edges out further to make it run longer. This black back ground effectively cover the video and will continue to play the audio of the underlying video clip.

  • How should I incorporate 60p clips into 24p multicam clips?

I shot a music video recently on a 7D. I have three variety of clips:
    24p
24p shot to slow playback, which needs to be sped up to 132% for sync
60p that needs to be conformed
How should I incorporate these clips into 24p multicam clips. Do I do all the conforming/speed changes in the multicam timeline after making the clip or is there a way to do it prior in the event browser and be able to take advantage of FCPX's syncing?

I'm having difficulty following your description. You shot with one camera and you want  to make a multiclip…so should  I asume you had three separate takes of a performance? And the audio? Is it recorded music that you want the talent lip-syncing to? Or something else?
    Justin Powell! wrote:
24p shot to slow playback, which needs to be sped up to 132% for sync
60p that needs to be conformed
Could you also expand upon these statements? Why does the 24p need speeding up and why does the 60p need to be conformed?
With a typical multi-cam shoot, FCP does a great job of syncing different formats, including multiple frame rates. Those usually are synced by matching (automatically) the waveforms of the reference audio in the various cameras and any other sound sources. But yours does not sound like a typical shoot.

yes, it is possible. Infact, it is the normal practice to add those 10 roles to that single user in SU01 direclty.
and as I said, user comparison should be scheduled normally in SAP system landscape to do the things automatically, however not immediately but after some time.

If you want user comparison immediately, then you need to do it manually in the role.

  • Merged clips audio not playing

Is there a reason why my merged clips no longer play audio?
Also is there a way to batch merge clips? I had to individually sync my whole project one video/audio clip at a time...a little disappointing to do all that work and come back to my project where the audio won't play.

Might be a good idea for a feature request.
Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
On the not playing issue, I'm sort of stumped.  It's just always worked for me, and it's not an issue I recall seeing reported here by others.
